After refueling the vehicle at a gas station, I drive about a 1/4 of a mile and the engine will stall and die. It will immediately restart and when I step on the gas pedal the engine has no power and will stall again. I will start it a third time and then it will run ok until I need to fill-up again. I think this is a safety hazard because I stand a good chance of getting rear ended being stuck in traffic. I have read many articles about people having the same problem. Seems the fix is replacing the gas tank which costs about $1500.00. Please make the responsible party face this serious safety issue.

After fueling the vehicle completely, the engine stalls multiple times while in motion. This happens for a few miles and re-starts before running normal again. When the engine stalls, the vehicle cannot accelerate and power-steering is not operable. The vehicle's engine has stalled when entering a highway and turning with cross-traffic. I fear myself and passengers will be struck by a moving vehicle with no control of the subject vehicle. A local mechanic stated the entire gas tank needs replaced but cannot confirm it will correct the defect. There is no warning when the engine stalls. This is my second complaint after years of no response. These events are ongoing.
VEHICLE ENGINE CUTS OUT WITHOUT WARNING AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK THE LAST 5 FILL-UPS. GAS TANK IS NOT BEING OVERFILLED. USUALLY HAPPENS WITHIN THE FIRST 1/2 MILE AFTER LEAVING THE GAS STATION. TAKES ABOUT 15 MINUTES OR MORE TO PUT GAS IN MY GAS TANK. ON THE INTERNET SEARCH IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM THAT A LOT OF JEEP PATRIOT'S HAVE. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THE CAUSE IS A ROLL OVER VALVE WHICH IS PLASTIC AND LOCATED IN THE TANK ITSELF. THAT THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM IS TO GET A NEW TANK PUT IN. I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL ON THIS AND SHOULD HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM.ON THE INTERNET VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM RANGING FROM 2007-2015. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I TRY TO PUT GAS IN MY CAR.
EVERY TIME I FILL UP GAS TANK CAR WONT START IMMEDIATELY AND WHEN I FINALLY GET IT TO START IT TURNS OFF AGAIN WHEN I DRIVE OFF OR AT FIRST STOP I MAKE. PROBLEM SEEMS TO ONLY OCCUR WHEN GAS TANK IS COMPLETELY FULL.
WHEN I TRY TO FILL THE GAS TANK THE FUEL WILL GUSH BACK OUT TOWARDS ME. THE ONLY WAY THAT I CAN GET GAS INTO THE TANK IS TO GENTLY LET IT TRICKLE IN WHICH TAKES FOR EVER. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT A VENT INSIDE THE GAS TANK IS FAULTY AND CANNOT BE REPAIRED. THE FIX IS A NEW GAS TANK AND ABOUT $800.00 AFTER DOING RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEPS. SEEMS TO ME THAT HAVING GASOLINE FLUSH BACK ON YOU IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF YOU DON'T KNOW THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN THE GASOLINE GUSHES OUT FASTER THAN THE PUMP NOZZLE HAS A CHANCE TO SHUT IT OFF. IF THIS IS SO COMMON WHY HASN'T IT BEEN ADDRESSED? I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF PROOF THAT I CAN SEND YOU OTHER THAN A VIDEO WHICH I'M WILLING TO DO BUT HOW DO I SEND IT? ENGINE IS OFF NOT RUNNING SITTING AT A GAS PUMP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT. EACH TIME THE FUEL TANK WAS REFILLED, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SOUTHERN CHRYSLER JEEP GREENBRIER (LOCATED AT 1414 S MILITARY HWY, CHESAPEAKE, VA 23320, (757) 424-4600) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
JEEP STALLS AND SHUTS OFF AFTER FUELING.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE WITH MY JEEP. IT STALLS NUMEROUS TIMES AFTER I GET FUEL. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH JEEP PATRIOTS. IT HAS ALSO COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2012+ MODELS FOR THE ISSUE. I AM WONDERING WHY THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THE 2009 MODEL THAT I HAVE? AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A VER COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2007-2009 MODELS AS WELL. THIS ISSUE IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS, AND HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT NUMEROUS TIMES. BEING MY ONLY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION, I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT. WHY HAS JEEP NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR ALL YEARS, IT CLEARLY AFFECTS MORE THAN JUST 2012+ VEHICLES.
WHEN MY DAUGHTER FILLS THIS CAR UP WITH GAS, IT WILL STALL WHEN SHE IS AT STOP SIGNS/LIGHTS WHEN IDLING. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE SHE WAS TRYING TO MAKE A TURN. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS. I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE ROLL OVER SENSOR IN THE GAS TANK, AND IT NEEDS TO BE A MANUFACTURER RECALL.
AFTER FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK THE ENGINE WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC MULTIPLE TIMES FOR SEVERAL MILES. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE SINCE YOU LOSE ACCELERATION, POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. VEHICLE STALLS AFTER REFUELING (SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN 5 MILES AFTER REFUELING) BEFORE RETURNING TO NORMAL. VEHICLE STALLS INITIALLY WHILE IDLING IMMEDIATELY AFTER REFUELING AND WHILE IN MOTION. VEHICLE STALLED WHEN PULLING INTO INTERSECTION (ON A PUBLIC ROADWAY), CAUSING WHEEL TO LOCK. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS HAPPENS WITH EVERY REFUEL SINCE THE FIRST EVENT.
AFTER REFUELING, THE VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL AND HAS STALLED ON SOME OCCASIONS. THIS IS CONCERNING TO ME BECAUSE, I HAVE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTART IT. VEHICLE DIES WHEN DRIVING AWAY FROM GAS STATION EVERY TIME AFTER FILLING TANK. IT DOES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. DODGE HAD A RECALL FOR THIS BUT JEEP HAS NOT. WHEN I WAS AT MECHANICS YESTERDAY THEY HAD A HEEP COMPASS THAT WAS DOING THE SAME THING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO PROPERLY REFUEL. AS THE FAILURE PROGRESSED, THE FUEL SPILLED OUT WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REFUEL THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO SOLUTION OTHER THAN THE DEALER REPLACING THE PARTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
UNABLE TO FILL THE TANK WITHOUT THE PUMP CLICKING OFF EVERY 2 - 3 SECONDS, DESPITE HAVING TRIED MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS AND PUMPS. MECHANIC ADVISED THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE EVAP SYSTEM AND THAT THE FUEL TANK WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED (POSSIBLY A FAULTY ROLLOVER VALVE ON THE TANK). ASIDE FROM THE FACT THAT IS TAKES FOREVER TO FILL THE TANK, I HAVE TO GUESS AT WHEN MY TANK IS FULL AND RISK OVERFILLING SINCE I CAN'T RELY ON THE USUAL "CLICK" OF THE PUMP. ALSO, IF IT IS A FAULTY ROLLOVER VALVE, I WOULD CONSIDER THIS A PRETTY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HOPE OTHERS EXPERIENCING A SIMILAR PROBLEM ALSO FILE COMPLAINTS HERE AND WITH CHRYSLER/JEEP SO A RECALL WILL BE ISSUED IF NEEDED.
ON 4/7/2016 MY JEEP PATRIOT COMPLETELY STALLED AFTER FILLING IT WITH GAS. AFTER WAITING AN HOUR, THE CAR STARTED UP AGAIN. I READ ON THE JEEP FORUMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP'S FUEL TANK, HOWEVER CHRYSLER IS UNWILLING TO ADMIT IT AND RECALL THE PART. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NOT I'M SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR AFTER GETTING GAS FOR FEAR OF LOSING POWER. I HAVE A ONE YEAR OLD SON AND FEAR FOR HIS LIFE AS WELL AS MINE.. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND ADD ME TO THE LIST OF VICTIMS. THANKS.

BOUGHT CAR IN NOV WITH CLEAN CARFAX - 5MONTHS LATER IT SEEMED TO HAVE A FUEL INJECTION PROBLEM. ON WAY TO THE DEALER, CAR DID NOT STALL, BUT SPEED DROPPED TO 30-35 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY (ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON) HAD TO DRIVE IN BREAKDOWN LANE WITH HAZARD LIGHTS FLASHING, AND ON EXIT RAMP SHOULDER . TRYING TO PULL OUT INTO THE DRIVING LANE ON RAMP- SPEED DROPPED TO 5-10MPH. - NO ACCELERATION.. CAR WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE JUST BEHIND THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL - THE CAR WAS TOTALED...CAUSE STILL UNKNOWN. NOTE: CORRECTION BY CONSUMER - THE SPEED DID NOT DROP... THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 35 MPH .... BELIEVES IT WAS ALSO A TRANSMISSION ISSUE. *RMM
