FUEL SPILLING DURING FILL UP. *TR
I PURCHASED MY JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON SAHARA IN JULY 2005. OVER THE YEARS, THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS I HAD WERE THE INFAMOUS SHAKING OF THE CAR AT SPEEDS OVER ABOUT 55MPH AND THE CONSTANT NEED TO JUMP THE CAR AND BUY NEW BATTERIES. THE LATTER PROBLEM SEEMED LIKE SOMETHING I COULD LIVE WITH BUT OVER TIME IT BECAME WORSE AND YOU COULD NO LONGER RELY ON THE CAR TO START. JEEP HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY CAVALIER ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS, BUT THEY ARE REAL. MY CAR NOW HAS ONLY ABOUT 17,000 MILES ON IT BECAUSE OF THE RELIABILITY PROBLEM. IN JANUARY 2011 THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL EXPLOSION AND SMOKE IN THE CAR. IT WAS TOWED TO LITHIA JEEP IN SANTA FE NM (WHERE I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT IT). THEY COULDN'T REALLY FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM, BUT CHARGED ME FOR SOME REWIRING AND SENT IT BACK TO ME. WITHIN DAYS, THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN, SO I BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY. WITHIN DAYS, THAT BATTERY WAS DEAD AND THE CAR WAS AGAIN TOWED TO JEEP. THIS TIME, I FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER, WHO ACCEPTED THE CASE.THE DEALER FIDDLED AROUND WITH THE CAR WITHOUT SUCCESS FOR A MONTH, BEFORE CHRYSLER AGREED TO ACCEPT MOST OF THE CHARGES FOR A COMPREHENSIVE REWIRING OF THE CAR. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED ME AT THE TIME THAT IT WAS UNABLE TO DO THE RECALL WORK ON THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION, BECAUSE THE BOLTS SECURING THE TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN STRIPPED AT THE FACTORY. THIS SEEMED ODD TO ME, THAT A DEALER WAS TELLING ME IT COULDN'T DO THE RECALL WORK ON A DANGEROUS CONDITION, SO I JUST HAD TO LIVE WITH IT. IN MARCH THE DEALER COMMENCED THE INTENSIVE REWIRING WORK, AND BY APRIL, THE DEALER SAID THAT THE PROBLEM HAD NOT YET BEEN RESOLVED, SO IT WOULD NEED ADDITIONAL FUNDS FROM CHRYSLER. THIS CARRIED ON INTO MAY, AND I STILL DID NOT HAVE THE CAR. FINALLY, IN LATE MAY, THE DEALER CALLED AND SAID THEY "THOUGHT THE CAR MIGHT BE FIXED" BUT WEREN'T SURE, BECAUSE THE COMPUTER WAS STILL IDENTIFYING AN UNKNOWN DRAIN ON THE BATTERY WITH POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL SHORT IMPLICATIONS. NO MORE PROGRESS. ABOUT $3500 EXPENDED. *TR
GASOLINE SPITS OUT OF TANK WHILE FILLING WITH FUEL. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME I REFUEL. THIS IS A HEALTH RISK AS WELL AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL RISK THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
2005 JEEP TJ WHILE FILLING DOES NOT CLICK THE PUMP OFF AND THEREFORE LEAKS AND SPILLS OUT ALL OVER THE ROAD CAUSING AN EPA NIGHTMARE. HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WHEN FILLING UP. THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH JEEPS DOING THIS BUT THE GOVERNMENT PAYS NO ATTENTION. MAYBE THE EPA IS TOO BUSY WORRYING ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN FUEL SPILLAGE AND SEEPAGE INTO WATER SUPPLIES...? *TR
EVERYTIME I FILL UP MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON WITH FUEL, GAS SHOOTS OUT THE FILLER TUBE INSTEAD OF SHUTTING OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. *TR
MY "NEW" USED 2005 JEEP TJ WILL SPILL GAS ALL OVER THE PLACE WHEN FILLING UP GAS. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I DO IT MANUALLY OR LET IT FILL UP WITH THE AUTO SWITCH ON. EVEN WHEN I "HEAR" THE GAS NEAR THE TOP OF THE TANK IT STILL SPITS GAS OUT OF THE TANK AND ONTO MY HANDS, THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ON THE GROUND. WHAT A PAIN IN THE [XXX]. AT AROUND THE 50K MILEAGE MARK, FUEL WOULD GUSH OUT WHEN FILLING UP THE TANK. TRIED DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS, OLD AND BRAND NEW PUMPS, ALL RESULTED IN GAS GUSHING OUT AS THE PUMP TURNED OFF. CHRYSLER-JEEP SERVICE REPLACED THE FUEL FILLER TUBE. TOPPED OFF THE GAS TANK AFTER THE "FIX", SEEMED GOOD. LET THE TANK GO DOWN TO LESS THAN 1/4 THEN FILLED THE TANK AND THE GAS GUSHED OUT YET AGAIN! THIS IS BOTH A SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT ISSUE. PLEASE REQUEST JEEP TO FIND A REAL FIX FOR THIS AND ISSUE A RECALL.
AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK, THE GAS PUMP STOPS BUT THE GAS COMES GUSHING OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED EVERY TIME I HAVE FILLED UP MY JEEP SINCE THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IN JAN 2011. *TR
GAS TANK OVERFLOW: I BOUGH THE JEEP OVER 1 YEAR AGO. 3 OUT OF 4 TIMES I FILL UP THE TANK, THE GASOLINE OVERFLOWS OUT THE TANK AND SPRAYS ME OR THE GROUND. IT HAPPENED THIS MORNING TOO. *TR

EVERY TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK ON MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON IT OVERFLOWS OUT OF THE FILL LOCATION. SOMETIMES THE SPLASHING IS VERY POWERFUL OTHER TIMES IT IS JUST A MEDIUM SPLASH. THE ONLY WAY TO NOT HAVE THIS HAPPEN IS TO ANTICIPATE WHEN THE TANK SHOULD BE FULL AND STOP. *TR

GAS SPEWS BACK OUT AT ME WHEN I TRY TO FILL MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER (ALL OVER ME AND THE GROUND).
WHEN I TRY TO FILL MY TANK USING THE AUTOFILL OPTION ON THE FUEL PUMP HANDLE, THE FUEL DOESN'T SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL AND WILL COME SPLASHING OUT IN FORCE. MY SOLUTION THUS FAR IS TO BE AWARE OF THE GALLON AMOUNT AS I FUEL THE VEHICLE, THEN WHEN IT GETS FAIRLY CLOSE, I TRY TO TRICKLE THE FUEL IN SO AS NOT TO SPLASH TOO MUCH FUEL OUT ON TO THE GROUND OR MY PANTS AND SHOES. *KB
FUELS SPRAYS OUT OF THE FILL POINT WHEN FILLING AT A GAS STATION. I HAVE HAD IT SPRAY INTO THE AIR AND INTO MY MOUTH AND CLOSE TO MY EYES. I HAVE THE NOZZLE IN THE HOLE AND ON AUTO STOP AND WHEN IT IS FULL, THE PUMP STOPS THE FUELING AFTER THE FUEL COME SQUIRTING OUT. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND I AM SICK AND DANG TIRED OF GETTING FUEL ALL OVER MY HANDS, FACE AND CLOTHING! *TR

WHEN I FILL MY JEEP UP WITH FUEL IT ALWAYS OVERFLOWS WITH FUEL SPEWING ON ME THE GROUND AND MY VEHICLE. NOTHING SEEMS TO CHANGE IT NOT SLOWING DOWN THE PUMP OR ANYTHING. MY RESEARCH BRINGS ME TO IT BEING A FAILURE WITH THE ROLLOVER/CHECKVALVE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FILLER TUBE FAILING TO CLOSE ALLOWING FUEL TO OVERFLOW. FUEL SPRAYS OUT OF GAS FILLER NECK WHEN ADDING FUEL TO VEHICLE. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER X, FUEL OVERFILLS EVERY TIME I FILL UP. THE TANK DOES NOT ALLOW THE PUMP TO SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY. HAPPENS AT EVERY DIFFERENT GAS STATION AND WITH EVERY TANK. NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED OVERFLOWS FUEL EVERY TIME AT THE PUMP. DOES NOT MATTER IF I HOLD IT, OR IF IT IS ON AUTOMATIC HOLD. ALWAYS OVERFLOWS. SOMETIMES SPRAYS OUT OF THE HOLES ON THE VAPOR LOCK. DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME $1200 TO REPLACE FUEL TANK. CHRYSLER TSB ON 2007-08, BUT NOT OTHER YEARS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE TOTALITY OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ADD FUEL TO THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT IT WOULD SPILL OUT ONTO HIS CLOTHING SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V034000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP). THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,500.
EVERY TIME I FILL UP AT THE GAS STATION FUEL GUSHES OUT EVERYWHERE AFTER THE PUMP SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY.
WHEN FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, THE TANK SEEMS TO HAVE A VENTING OR PRESSURE PROBLEM. WHEN THE TANK IS BEING FILLED, GASOLINE SHOOTS OUT OF THE TANK VIOLENTLY AS IT APPROACHES FULL. *TR
PURCHASED 2005 JEEP WRANGLER X FROM INDIVIDUAL NOVEMBER 2010. VEHICLE HAD 21K MILES. DEATH WOBBLE OCCURS EVERYTIME VEHICLE REACHES SPEEDS ABOVE 45 MPH. JEEP IS OUT OF CONTROL AND YOU MUST COME TO A SWIFT, BUT COMPLETE STOP TO KEEP FROM LOSING CONTROL. DRIVER OF VEHICLE AND OTHER VEHICLES LESS THAN 10 FEET AWAY ARE IN DANGER WHEN THIS OCCURS. DISCOVERED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON TODAY AND I HOPE THAT JEEP COMES UP WITH A SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE. *KB
WHEN FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK ON MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER IT WILL NOT SHUT OFF. IT SPRAYS GAS ALL OVER. THIS IS UNSAFE. ITS A FIRE HAZARD. IT SPILLS GAS INTO THE ENVIRONMENT. THIS IS FAR FROM AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE ROLLOVER VENT VALVE. GASOLINE IS SERIOUS STUFF. IT SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH. IT HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY TANK. JEEP WANTS TO CHARGE THEIR CUSTOMERS TO REPLACE THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM. I CANT PAY THAT BILL, IT IS WAY TOO COSTLY. *TR
EVERYTIME I FILL UP MY VEHICLE THE NOZZLE DOESN'T KICK OFF, GAS POURS OUT THE FILLER NECK, GAS IS EXPENSIVE THESE DAYS TO JUST POUR IT ON THE GROUND AND BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, I TRY TO NOT LET IT HAPPEN BUT STILL IT DOES, I FEEL THAT JEEP SHOULD BRING OUT A RECALL ON THIS. THE FENDER FLARE IS DISCOLORED BECAUSE OF THE GAS SPILLING OUT ON TO IT AND THEN I HAVE TO GO AND GET THE GAS OFF MY HANDS AND SHOES WHEN I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO. ON A WINDY DAY ABOUT A MONTH AGO, THE FUEL CAME OUT WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO GO ALL OVER THE VEHICLE, ME, AND ONTO MY FACE. THE PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT AND CAUSES A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF FUEL TO SPILL OUT AT EVERY FILL-UP. *TR

2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED HAS DEVELOPED A FAULTY ROLLOVER VALVE IN THE GAS TANK CAUSING FUEL SPILLS WHEN REFUELING. CHRYSLER DENIES WARRANTY CLAIMS STATING THIS IS NORMAL WEAR. HOWEVER, THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD - FUMES AND POTENTIAL FOR FIRES AND EXPLOSION AS WELL AS HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT. *TR
AT ANY REFUELING, BEFORE THE FUEL PUMP AUTO SHUT OFF IS ENGAGED, THERE IS FUEL SPIT BACK OUT OF THE FUEL FILLER. IT RUNS DOWN THE CORNER PANEL AND BEHIND THE LEFT REAR FENDER FLARE, AS WELL AS ONTO THE GROUND. DEPENDING ON WHAT SETTING YOU HAVE THE PUMP HANDLE SET TO (HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW), DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH FUEL IS SPAT BACK OUT. *TR
GASOLINE POURS OUT EVERY SINGLE TIME I FULLY FILL IT UP. IT HAPPENS ON EVERY WRANGLER SINCE 2003. *TR
1- EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED IT OVERFILLS. 2- IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! EVERY TIME I FILL UP. IT OVERFILLS. TO THE POINT WHERE I JUST STOP IT WHEN IT REACHES 18 GALLONS. 3- MY JEEP IS OUT OF WARRANTY, MY DEALER WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH OUT ME PAYING FOR MISTAKE DONE BY CHRYSLER. I REALLY QUESTION MY SAFETY. AND THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER HAS FUEL SPILLOVER ABOUT 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES I FILL UP THE GAS TANK WHETHER OR NOT I "HAND PUMP" THE FUEL. THERE HAVE BEEN NO MODIFICATIONS MADE TO THIS VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE NOVEMBER 2009. FUEL SPILLS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, SOMETIMES ON ME (OH, AND I'M PREGNANT), AND ON THE GROUND. VARIOUS APPROACHES TO FILLING THE TANK HAVE BEEN MADE, BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
I DRIVE A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT WITH A 4.0 LITER ENGINE, EVERY TIME I FILL UP, THE GAS TANK SHOOTS GAS OUT OF THE TANK, SPILLING IT ONTO THE GROUND. *TR
APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AFTER PURCHASING MY USED 2005 WRANGLER, GAS STARTED TO OVERFLOW FROM THE FILLER TUBE UPON FUELING. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED, I THOUGHT IT WAS A DEFECTIVE PUMP SHUT-OFF AT THE STATION UNTIL IT HAPPENED THE NEXT TIME AND THE NEXT AND SO ON. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS WITH NO RESOLVE. A GOOD AMOUNT OF GAS WILL SPILL OUT OF THE TANK ONCE THE TANK HAS REACHED CAPACITY, SPRAYING GAS ALL OVER THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. THIS CAN BE MINIMIZED BY SLOWING THE FLOW FROM THE NOZZLE, BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL WHEN THE TANK IS GOING TO BE FULL OR NOT. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY ISSUE AS THERE IS NOW A VOLATILE SUBSTANCE ON THE GROUND, BUT AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE AS THERE IS NOW GASOLINE THAT COULD EASILY ENTER THE GROUND WATER. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, HAS ADMITTED THAT IT AFFECTS OTHER MODEL YEARS YET REFUSES TO ACCEPT FURTHER RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL MY JEEP WITH GASOLINE, AT THE END OF FILLING THE TANK, GAS WILL COME UP OUT OF THE TANK, THROUGH THE GAS HOLE AND SPILL ON THE FLOOR. THIS COULD CAUSE A POTENTIAL FIRE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 10 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR DISPLAYED A READING OF ZERO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT HAD THE OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
WHEN FILING GAS TANK, GAS DOES NOT SHUT OFF BEFORE OVERFILLING AND CAUSING A SPILLAGE ON GROUND AT GAS PUMPS. ALWAYS RUNS OUT AND IS DAMAGING PAINT AROUND FILLER HOLE. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP THE VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE, WHEN THE PUMP CUTS OFF GASOLINE SPURTS OUT ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND AND SOMETIMES OVER THE PERSON FILLING THE TANK. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THE NOZZLE IS BEING HELD AND SQUEEZED BY THE PERSON FILLING OR IS LOCKED IN POSITION FOR HANDSFREE FILLING. IT HAS HAPPENED CONSISTENTLY WITH FILLUPS FOR THE PAST 4-5 MONTHS NO MATTER WHICH GAS STATION IS USED.
CHRYSLER CHANGED THE OIL PUMP DRIVE ASSEMBLY (OPDA) ON 2005-06 MODEL JEEP WRANGLERS. THE OPDA WAS DESIGNED WITH A SEAL PREVENTING OIL FROM LUBRICATING THE UPPER BUSHING CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURES. THESE FAILURES WILL RESULT IN A IMMEDIATE DROP IN OIL PRESSURE CAUSING THE POTENTIAL FOR COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS WILL RESULT IN SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE AND MAY RESULT IN PROPERTY AND/OR BODILY INJURY. CHRYSLER ISSUED A TSB (E05R) ON CERTAIN MODELS, HOWEVER THIS HAS BECOME A LARGER ISSUE. THIS IS JUST A HEADS UP, HOPEFULLY FROM THOUSANDS OF OTHERS ALSO OF A PENDING MASS FAILURE OF CHRYSLER'S 4.0 MOTORS INVOLVING LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE AND THE POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY MOTOR SEIZURES HAPPENING AT ANY SPEED, ANYWHERE. CHRYSLER HAS BEEN DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE AND IN MY CASE NOT EVEN NOTIFYING ME OF A RECALL(WHICH WOULDN'T HAVE ALLEVIATED THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM) DESPITE MY VIN HAVING THE S INDICATOR IN IT INDICATING IT BEING IN THE RANGE FOR THE RECALL.
THE GAS TANK OF MY 2005 JEEP RUBICON OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME I REFUEL, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF THE GAS WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM CITED BY MANY OTHER JEEP OWNERS (AS CHRYSLER MUST BE AWARE). THIS MALFUNCTION IS DANGEROUS, WASTEFUL, AND ENVIRONMENTALLY DAMAGING. PLEASE LIVE UP TO THE REPUTATION THAT JEEP OWNERS APPRECIATE AND RESPECT REGARDING OUR JEEPS. QUALITY AND RELIABILITY ARE IMPORTANT TO US--OR WE WOULD NOT BUY JEEP VEHICLES. DEVOTED JEEP OWNERS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BEG FOR ASSISTANCE TO RECTIFY A DESIGN FLAW. *TR
