REAR STEEL BRAKE LINES MOUNTED TO FRAME FOR REAR WHEELS COMING INTO CONTACT WITH REAR SWAY BAR. NOTED NOISE. THIS NOISE IS A LIGHT "CLACKING" METAL SOUND AND COULD ONLY BE HEARD AT MODERATE SPEED WHEN ON THE TRAIL OR GOING THROUGH "DIPS" ON PUBLIC STREETS WITH SIDE WINDOW DOWN. WHILE ROTATING TIRES SUSPENSION IS CHECKED. DISCOVERED RUB MARKS ON STEEL BRAKE LINES UNDER THE FRAME NEXT TO THE REAR SWAY BAR. DRIVER'S SIDE WAS WORN, PASSENGER SIDE HAD BLACK PAINT RUBBED OFF ON IT. NO DAMAGE OR CHAFING TO EITHER RUBBER BRAKE LINES MAKING FINAL CONNECTION TO REAR HUBS. NOTED FRAME CLIPS ATTACHED TO STEEL LINE HOLDING BRAKE LINE AWAY AND INTO CONTACT ZONE OF SWAY BAR WHEN SUSPENSION CYCLES. ROUGH MEASUREMENTS BETWEEN AXLE AND BUMP STOP IS ABOUT 2/3 CYCLE WHEN SWAY BAR HITS BRAKE LINE. ESTIMATE SUSPENSION DOES NOT BOTTOM OUT OR CONTACT BUMP STOP WHEN BRAKE LINES ARE BEING HIT BY SWAY BAR. WROTE CHRYSLER AN E-MAIL REGARDING THIS ISSUE. AFTER TWO DAYS RECEIVED A RESPONSE THAT READ LIKE A "SALES BROCHURE" OR "COMMERCIAL" NOT ACKNOWLEDGING ANYTHING THAT I HAD MENTIONED ABOUT THE BRAKE LINES. THEN THE SECOND PARAGRAPH POINTED OUT I HAD NOT COMPLIED WITH A "TOW BAR" RECALL AND THAT I SHOULD. WHICH I HAD LAST YEAR. THE REASON I REPORT THIS NOW. LAST YEAR THE JEEP WAS ON RECALL FOR THE FRONT BRAKE LINES BEING RUBBED BY THE INNER FENDER WELLS. WHICH WAS TAKEN CARE OF BY A LOCAL DEALER SHIP. IN RETROSPECT OF THE FRONT BRAKE LINE RECALL. THOUGHT I WOULD BRING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION. MIGHT THIS SAME MODEL HAVE HAD A REAR BRAKE LINE ROUTING ISSUE TOO? CLOCKSPRING CAME APART INSIDE STEERING COLUMN. LOST ABILITY TO STEER, AIR BAG SHUT OFF, USE HORN, AND CRUISE CONTROL. WARRANTY DID NOT COVER. *JS
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT JUST STARTED SOUNDING RANDOMLY NOT DUE TO ANY ADVERSE DRIVING CONDITION OR EXTREME MANEUVERING. TOOK IT TO DEALER CHARGED $75 FOR THEM TO TELL ME IT WOULD COST ANOTHER $450 AND THAT THE AIRBAGS MAY OR MAY NOT DEPLOY. *TR
I WAS TURNING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A SNAP IN THE STEERING WHEEL. AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE HORN NO LONGER WORKED. THE NEXT DAY I HEARD ANOTHER LITTLE SNAP AND THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL I CAN HEAR THINGS SCRAPING INSIDE IT. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE CLOCKSPRING IS BROKEN. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THEY COULD REPLACE THE BEARINGS ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SUSPENSION. THE DEALER COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE FAILURE WOULD BE RESOLVED AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CLOCK SPRING FAILED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE MAY HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V528000 (AIR BAG: FRONTAL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED ON ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000. UPDATED 10/10/12 *CN THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE 1ST GEAR IN THE TRANSMISSION WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE, WHICH CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO POP OUT OF GEAR. UPDATED 10/17/12
THE STEERING WHEEL MOMENTARILY WOULDN'T TURN UNTIL I FORCED IT AND BROKE WHAT I'M ASSUMING IS THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY. VERY DANGEROUS IF MY MOM OR SOMEONE ELSE WHO WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FORCE THE BREAK WHILE DRIVING THE JEEP. THE AIRBAG, ABS, ESP, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ALL CAME ON IN THE DASH. THERE IS A WHITE RIBBON WIRE NOW HANGING OUT BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN. *TR
WHEN AT COMPLETE STOP AND PROCEEDING TO DRIVE FORWARD, THE JEEP POPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR WITH A LOUD BANG, AND THEN IS USUALLY A LITTLE STIFFER TO GET INTO SECOND. THIS HAS HAPPENED 8 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE USED ALMOST 3 WEEKS AGO. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IF I WERE CROSSING TRAFFIC AND POPPED INTO NEUTRAL, I COULD BE T-BONED AND BADLY HURT. THE ESP, BAS, ABS, AND AIRBAG LIGHTS ARE ALL ON. WHEN YOU START DRIVING THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE AND IT HESITATES TO GO. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IT STARTS TO CLUNK AND IT IS HARD TO STEER. AT TIMES IT IS LIKE YOU ARE DRAGGING THE REAR END. AND AT TIMES IT EVEN FEELS LIKE YOU ARE DRAGGING THE REAR END SIDEWAYS.
BRAKES APPLY THEM SELF DIFFERENT WHEELS AT DIFFERENT TIMES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS WHEELS GET HOT, SMOKE AND WEARS BRAKE SHOES OUT, DAMAGES ROTORS. WHEN YOU HIT GAS THE BRAKES APPLY. THIS IS DANGEROUS IF ANOTHER VEHICLE IS BEHIND YOU WHEN THE BAKES APPLY THEN YOU WILL BE HIT IN THE BACK.CAN NOT FIND ANYTHYING WRONG WHEN WE TAKE IT IN TO BE CHECKED. THEY APPLY AT ANYTIME YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER X. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE WHEELS STARTED TO SHAKE AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STEER PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THE STEERING STABILIZER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,600.
DEATH WOBBLE ON A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. VEHICLE HAS A PREDICTABLE VIBRATION BETWEEN 55-60 MPH. ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE SHOOK SO VIOLENTLY THAT IT TOOK THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF MY WIFE'S HANDS. SHE WAS GOING AROUND 55 MPH AROUND A CURVE. ON A SECOND OCCASION, I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO TAKE AN EXIT RAMP. SLOWING FROM 75 MPH TO AROUND 60 MPH AND ENTERING THE EXIT RAMP CURVE, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALMOST SHAKEN OUT OF MY HANDS. ON A THIRD OCCASION, AT AROUND 60 MPH ON A STRAIGHT ROAD WITH NO BUMPS, THE JEEP BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND AGAIN PULLED THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF ANOTHER DRIVERS HANDS. THE MINOR VIBRATION HAPPENS EVERYDAY BETWEEN 55-60 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG. I HAVE REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER WITH A RANCHO HEAVY DUTY STABILIZER. VIBRATION WENT AWAY FOR ABOUT 500 MILES. I RELIGIOUSLY DO A 5 TIRE ROTATION AND BALANCE. NO CHANGE. I HAVE HAD A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT COMPLETED. NO CHANGE. JEEP WILL NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THEY SAY IF THERE IS A VIBRATION TO HAVE THE TIRES BALANCED AND THE FRONT END ALIGNED. WHEN I TELL THEM THAT HAS BEEN DONE, THEIR REPLY IS THAT IT WAS NOT COMPLETED PROPERLY AND THEY WOULD DO IT FOR $300. I AM GETTING TO THE POINT OF SELLING OR TRADING IT IN SINCE I CANNOT FIX THE ISSUE. I AM ALMOST READY TO TRY TO REPLACE BALL JOINTS, BUT AT 47,700 MILES AND NO SUSPENSION OR ENGINE MODIFICATIONS. THE JEEP HAS NEVER BEEN OFF-ROADED, NEVER BEEN MISTREATED. WHAT NOW? JEEP ALSO OFFERED TO REPLACE THE BALL JOINTS, PITMAN ARM, TIE ROD ENDS, SWAY BAR END LINKS, ETC. FOR A NICE SUM OF THE $2500. EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS, THE GAS FLOWS OUT OF THE FUEL TANK ALL OVER THE CAR, ME AND THE GROUND. THIS HAPPENS RIGHT BEFORE THE TANK IS FULL AND IT DOESN'T SHUT THE GAS PUMP OFF. *KB
2008 JEEP WRANGLER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS AND BRAKE LINE ROUTING DEFECT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE FIRST PROBLEM HE HAD WITH THE VEHICLE WAS THE TRANSMISSION. IT BEGAN FAILING TO ENGAGE AND SHIFTING OUT OF GEAR. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE TRANSMISSION OIL FILTER HAD NOT BEEN INSTALLED AND WAS LYING ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN. IN JANUARY 2011, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE CONSUMER BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE INTERMITTENT VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE ENTIRE VEHICLE, WHICH SEEMED TO BE ORIGINATING FROM THE FRONT END. THE CONSUMER STATED IT FELT AS THOUGH A WHEEL WAS LOOSE. THE CONSUMER WENT TO A REPAIR SHOP, WHERE THE TIE ROD AND PITMAN WERE REPLACED. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE SHAKING OCCURRED AGAIN AND SOON IT BECAME INCREASINGLY VIOLENT ,MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND STAY IN HIS LANE. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPER, WHICH SEEMED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR AWHILE. IN JULY, THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE CHECK. WHILE CHECKING THE FRONT END, THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO GET TWO FULL TURNS ON A NUT ON THE TRACK BAR. SINCE THEN, THE SHAKING HAS NOT OCCURRED. THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE APPROACHED A LINE OF VEHICLES STOPPED AT A LIGHT, HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKE, BUT IT WENT SOFT AND TO THE FLOOR. AN INSPECTION REVEALED A HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE ABOVE THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, WHERE THE LINE LEFT THE WHEEL WELL AND WENT INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE HOLE WAS CAUSED BY RUBBING ON THE LINE BY THE EDGE OF THE PLASTIC WHEEL WELL LINING. *JB
OCCASIONALLY MY TRANSMISSION VIOLENTLY "POPS" OUT OF FIRST GEAR WHEN I AM MOVING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. I HAVE NOW MADE A HABIT OF HOLDING THE SHIFT LEVEL INTO 1ST GEAR AND SOMETIMES IT FORCES MY HAND AND THE SHIFT LEVER OUT OF GEAR NO MATTER HOW HARD I AM PUSHING THE SHIFT LEVER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER 4X4 2-DOOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE HE WOULD SMELL A BURNING ODOR. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE WHEELS HAD BECOME ABNORMALLY HOT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BURNS TO THREE OF HIS FINGERS FROM TOUCHING THE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE CALIPERS OVERHEATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CALIPER AND ALSO THE TWO REAR CALIPERS ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,619. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,000.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES INTERMITTENTLY. OVER SEVERAL DAYS IT HAS PROGRESSED TO NEAR CONSTANT. THE LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE ALONG WITH A CHIME EACH TIME THE STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN TURNED. *TR I HAVE NOT HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE IT IN FOR SERVICE YET.
AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS LIT CONSTANTLY. HORN DOES NOT WORK. ESP\BAS LIGHT ON DASH STAYS LIT CONSTANTLY. DEALER DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, BEGINNING TO GO DOWN A MOUNTAIN INTERSTATE IN COLORADO. I WAS TRAVELING AT 57 MPH WHEN I VERY LIGHTLY PRESSED THE BRAKE. THE FRONT AND OF THE CAR AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY TO THE POINT WHERE I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR. THE CAR WAS BOUNCING BACK AND FORTH, LEFT AND RIGHT, AND I FEEL VERY LUCKY TO NOT HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE SERIOUS FEARS ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY NOW BECAUSE IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN, I FEEL THE LIKELIHOOD OF AN ACCIDENT IS VERY HIGH. THIS SYMPTOM IS REFERRED TO AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" IN JEEP WRANGLERS, AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE READ COUNTLESS REPORTS OF IT AND CHRYSLER JEEP NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. IT IS AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT NUMEROUS OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED. PERSISTENTLY WITH THEIR VEHICLES. *TR

STEERING WENT INTO EXTREME SHIMMY I.E. DEATH WOBBLE AFTER SMALL BUMPS ON HIGHWAY. VEHICLE LOST CONTROL AND REQUIRED EVASIVE MANEUVER TO PULL OVER AND STOP SHIMMY. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFECT IN DESIGN. *TR
WHEN FILLING WITH GAS, BEFORE THE TANK APPROACHES FULL, GASOLINE SPEWS OUT AROUND THE FILLER NOZZLE ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE JEEP. NOW THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS STARTED, IT OCCURS EVERY TIME I FILL UP. I HAVE HAD THE JEEP FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND IT WAS FINE UNTIL RECENTLY. CHRYSLER HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR JEEPS WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR JEEPS MADE BETWEEN MARCH 2007 AND MARCH 2008. MY JEEP WAS MADE IN MAY OF 2008 SO IT IS NOT COVERED. I HAVE READ ON THE NET THAT MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE HAVE HAD THE GAS TANK REPLACED AND IT HAS SOLVED THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. *TR
DEATH WOBBLE 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. BOUGHT VEHICLE IN OCT 2011, 5 OCCURRANCES OF DEATH WOBBLE, ALL ON FREEWAYS THROUGH JAN 10TH 2012. ONLY RECOURSE IS TO PULL OVER & STOP AFTER HITTING A BUMP OR GROOVE IN THE ROAD. NEWTONS LAW, EVERY ACTION CAUSES A REACTION. FRONT WHEELS WILL START SHAKING BEGIN GRADUALLY THEN VIOLANTLY UNTIL YOU CAN LUCKILY PULL OVER & STOP. ONCE STOPPED, YOU CAN START AGAIN & NOT EXPERIENCE IT AGAIN FOR WEEKS & THEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN WHENEVER YOU LEAST EXPECT IT. VERY HARD TO EVEN CONTROL THE VEHICLE ONCE IT ABRUPTLY STARTS. DEALER SAYS IT'S DAMPER NEEDS REPLACED FOR 250$. DOING THIS... BUT THIS REALLY FEELS LIKE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE OR COVERED UNDER A EASY CARE WARRANTY THAT I WAS DUPED INTO BUYING AS WELL. AFTER 4 MONTHS OF OWNING A 20,000$ CAR & NEARLY KILLED 5 TIMES IS OUTRAGEOUS. MANY PEOPLE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL A VEHICLE IF THIS HAPPENED TO THEM. THIS IS A CHRYSLER DEFECT & THEY SHOULD BE ADDRESSING THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED BY THEIR FAULTY ENGINEERING AND/OR PARTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIANS STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE FRONT BALL JOINTS WERE FRACTURED, CAUSING THE AXLE TO FRACTURE AS WELL. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE AXLE WAS ON BACKORDER AND NOT AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,534.
THIS IS MY SECOND ONLINE COMPLAINT REGARDING THE "DEATH WOBBLE" I HAVE EXPERIENCED IN MY JEEP. I HAD THE ISSUE "FIXED" IN SEPTEMBER, THOUGH IT BEGAN TO HAPPEN AGAIN IN EARLY DECEMBER. I TOOK MY JEEP BACK IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPER WITH A "HIGH PERFORMANCE" MODEL. THEY DID THIS AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE THEY SAID THE ORIGINAL "FIX" WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I THOUGHT THIS TOOK CARE OF THINGS. TWO DAYS AGO, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH ON A BUSY SERVICE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AGAIN. I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND ALMOST COME TO A STOP BEFORE IT WOULD STOP. NEARBY DRIVERS HAD TO SWERVE TO MISS ME AND THE GUY BEHIND ME ALMOST REAR-ENDED ME. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP. I TOOK MY JEEP BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT AND CALL ME BACK. THE SAGA CONTINUES. *TR
ON EVERY FILL UP FOR GAS SINCE JANUARY AFTER I OR AN ATTENDANT WHO FILLS THE GAS TANK GETS SPLASHED/SOAKED WITH GAS. UPON REMOVING THE NOZZLE THE GAS 'BURPS' BACK AND SPRAYS GASOLINE OUT OF THE TANK. THE GAS SPLASH STARTED OUT VERY SMALL AND NOT AS FREQUENTLY BUT NOW IT RUSHES OUT LIKE A WATERFALL AND EVERY FILL UP. REGARDLESS IF YOU PUMP THE GAS SLOWLY BY HAND OR USE THE AUTO LEVER ON THE PUMP IT STILL HAPPENS-EVERYTIME. I AM ONLY USING 87 OCTANE GAS AS PER THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND THIS HAPPENS AT EVERY GAS STATION (MOBIL, SHELL, SUNOCO, TEXACO, GLOBAL, IRVING, CITGO, ETC.) MY LOCAL GAS STATIONS ARE SICK OF ME COMING IN BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS HAVE TO PUT OUT KITTY LITTER TO MOP UP THE MESS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO SPECIFIED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. I CONTACTED JEEP CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AFTER I WAS RESEARCHING THIS WEB SITE AND SAW RECALL #L37. NHTSA ACTION # PE11019. I OWN A RIGHT HAND DRIVE JEEP AND THIS RECALL VERY SPECIFICALLY SAID 2008-2012 RIGHT HAND DRIVE JEEPS WERE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CLOCK SPRING. I CONTACTED JEEP SEVERAL TIMES, I WENT AHEAD AND HAD THIS REPAIR DONE ON MY OWN IN FEAR OF BEING IN AN ACCIDENT AND NOT HAVING AN AIR BAG TO DEPLOY IF NEEDED, (I'M ON THE HIGHWAY 5-6 HOURS PER DAY) ALSO MY HORN WOULD NOT BLOW, IT IS NEEDED AT TIMES TO ALERT OTHER DRIVERS ETC.. ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2008 I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 JEEP WRANGLER FROM MY LOCAL DEALER. IT HAS HAD MODEST USE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 18,500 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE, EXCEPT A MONTH AGO I STARTED EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS SHOOTING OUT OF THE TANK NEAR THE END OF FILLING UP. I COULD AVOID THE PROBLEM ONLY IF I SHUT OFF THE GAS AS IT NEARED THE TOP (BEFORE THE POINT WHEN IT IS SHUT OFF BY THE NOZZLE??S OWN MECHANISM). HOWEVER IF I FILLED THE TANK ON THE JEEP AS I DO ON OUR OTHER CAR (AND AS I DID ON THE JEEP PRIOR TO LAST MONTH), THE GAS WOULD SHOOT OUT OF THE TANK, SPILLING ON THE SIDE AND ON MY FINGERS, AND ON ONE OCCASION, ON MY PANT LEG. I CONSIDER THIS PROBLEM OF GAS SPILLING OUTSIDE THE CAR A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION WHICH NEEDS TO BE REMEDIED. I CHECKED MY VEHICLE AND DETERMINED IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN MAY 2008. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM WAS THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM COMPLAINED ABOUT AND WHICH WAS THE SUBJECT OF THE RECALL. I THEREFORE CONTACTED MY DEALER AND WAS EVENTUALLY ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AS AN EMISSION PROBLEM COVERED BY A LIFETIME WARRANTY. I WOULD CERTAINLY THINK IT ADVISABLE FOR THE MANUFACTURER BE REQUIRED TO NOTIFY ITS OWNERS OF THIS PROBLEM AND/OR ISSUE A RECALL OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. THERE ARE OTHER RECALLS ON JEEP BRAKE PISTONS, HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY ASSURED ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. MY AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO LIGHT UP AND BEEPS. I RESEARCHED IT AND IT SAYS THAT IT IS A AIRBAG CLOCKSPRING FAILURE. I CALLED AND CHRYSLER IS NOT WILLING TO HELP ME. HAD I KNOWN THIS I WOULD HAVE NOT PURCHASED THE $40,000 VEHICLE. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE TO NO ONE.
UPON OPENING THE DOOR, THE HORN AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS BEGAN TO OPERATE INCESSANTLY AND ELECTRICAL ARCING COULD BE HEARD UNDER THE HOOD. THE ENGINE STARTED AND I TAPPED THE TIPM AND EVERYTHING STOPPED, INCLUDING THE ENGINE. WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE HORN OR WIPERS, BUT THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS ON. THE JEEP DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY TIPM WHICH WILL COST AROUND $200 AND TWO HOURS OF LABOR TO INSTALL AND PROGRAM. HE SAID THERE ARE MORE THAN 20 OF THESE MODULES BACKORDERED ACROSS THE NATION AND COULDN'T TELL US WHETHER IT WOULD BE DAYS OR WEEKS UNTIL IT WOULD BE AVAILABLE. WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER IF THE VEHICLE WOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE, HE SAID THAT WE COULD LOSE TOTAL CONTROL AT ANY TIME WITHOUT WARNING. CONSIDERING THIS AND THE ELECTRICAL ARCING WE HEARD UNDER THE HOOD, I THINK THAT THIS SHOULD CONSTITUTE A SAFETY RECALL.
