WITH NO WARNING WHILE DRIVING THE JEEP IT JUST SHUT OFF. NO STEERING, NO BRAKES. WOULDN'T START BACK UP AFTER. WE BROUGHT IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THE MOTOR IS TOTALLY CEASED AND NEEDS A NEW MOTOR.

THE ENGINE USES EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. 1.5 QUARTS PER 1000 MILES AT THE MINIMUM. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT COST AND HAS BEEN VERIFIED AS A ISSUE IN MULTIPLE JEEP WRANGLERS WITH THIS ISSUE. CHRYSLER CORP. HAS CEASED PRODUCTION FROM THE PLANT IN MEXICO WHICH BUILDS THESE ENGINES, BUT REFUSES TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. SPUN REAR BEARING WHICH LEAD TO ENGINE BURNING ALL OIL IN 3500 MILES AND ENGINE LOCKING UP. LOCK UP OCCURRED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IDLING AND STATIONARY.
AFTER MANY LONG ROAD TRIPS THE ENGINE ALWAYS SEEMS TO SMELL SLIGHTLY HOT. I WAS ASSURED IT WAS JUST BECAUSE OF LONG DISTANCES. THIS PAST WEEKEND AFTER A LONG ROAD TRIP, I PARKED MY CAR IN THE GARAGE, AND LATER THE ENGINE BURST INTO FLAMES WRECKING NOT ONLY THE JEEP BUT ALSO THE HOUSE IT WAS PARKED IN.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF A POLICE AND A FIRE REPORT WERE FILED. THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE WAS UNKNOWN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
DRIVING UP A LONG GRADE ON THE TWO LANE ROAD JUST SIGHT SEEING. WE STOPPED TO TURN LEFT ONTO ANOTHER ROAD AND SMELLED SOMETHING. THOUGHT IT WAS JUST SOMETHING ELSE UNTIL THERE WAS SMOKE IN THE CAR. GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND LOOKED UNDER TO SEE FLAMES AND YELLED FOR MY GIRLFRIEND AND DOG TO GET OUT. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY JEEP FOR 8 WEEKS NOW THIS CAR ONLY HAD 25,245 MILES WHEN I PURCHASED IT IN MAY 2014 AND ONLY A LITTLE OVER 37,500 MILES AND NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. I PERFORMED ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AS SUGGESTED BY THE MANUFACTURER BUT THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE OIL HAD BURNT UP. ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON UPON STARTING VEHICLE. CHECKED ALL FLUIDS, AND THAT GAS CAP WAS TIGHT. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP WHO SAID TO DRIVE IT FOR A FEW DAYS TO SEE IF LIGHT REMAINED ON. INDICATOR LIGHT WENT OFF SEVERAL DAYS LATER. MY ENGINE IS NOW EXHIBITING WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A STUCK LIFTER AND CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO HONOR THE WARRANTY ON THE LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I ALSO HAD A STEERING DAMPENER FAIL ON THE VEHICLE AT 32K MILES WHICH CHRYSLER MADE ME PAY HALF FOR FIXING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON VEHICLE; HOWEVER, CHRYSLER DID NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

FOR THE PAST 2-3 YEARS I KEEP HEARING TICKING FROM MY ENGINE. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID ITS NOTHING. I REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND CABLES THINKING THAT IT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE TICKING NOISE. I ALSO CHANGED THE EXHAUST, BUT THE TICKING KEPT ON GOING. I STARTED MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER JK AND IMMEDIATELY GOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WITH AN AUDIBLE SOUND. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH AND SHAKING. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND IT SEEMED FINE BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I HAVE A OBD2 DIAGNOSTIC CODE READER AND IT SHOWED THE CODE P0306. THIS IS A MISFIRE ON THE NUMBER SIX CYLINDER. I TOOK IT TO LARRY H. MILLER CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM DEALERSHIP IN ALBUQUERQUE AND THIS IS WHAT WAS DONE. "WI TECH DIAGNOSTICS FOR FAULT CODES, HAD STORE CODES FOR INJECTOR #6 CIRCUIT, NO WORK DONE, OPERATING AS PER DESIGN". I ASKED WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND [XXX] SAID THAT THE TECH COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO THEY COULD NOT FIX ANYTHING. [XXX] OFFERED TO PERFORM A FUEL INJECTOR CLEANING BUT THIS WAS THE ONLY OPTIONS FOR NOW. THE NEXT DAY I STARTED THE JEEP AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I LOOKED UP THIS CODE 0306 ON THE JEEP JK SITE AND READ POSTS OF "PENTASTAR PROBLEM". IN ALL CASES THESE PEOPLE HAD TO VISIT THE DEALERSHIP 4 TO 5 TIMES UNTIL THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. MY JEEP WRANGLER X 2DR WAS SITTING FROM 12:15P THE DAY PRIOR TO (WAS A NICE DAY TOOK MY MOTORCYCLE AROUND TOWN) AND AT 5:30A I HEARD A LOUD NOISE THAT WOKE ME OUT OF BED. RAN UPSTAIRS & OUTSIDE THE TRUCK WAS POURING SMOKE OUT OF MY HOOD... THAN TAKING ACTION MY BOYFRIEND UNLATCHED THE HOOD OF A POSSESSED TRUCK (BLOWING THE HORN CONSTANT RADIO ON LIGHTS ON) AND PROCEEDED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO YIELD/STOP THE TRUCK FROM CONTINUING TO BURN. CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SENT SOMEONE OUT TO DO A CLAIM ON THE JEEP AND CALLED ME TWO WEEKS LATER SAYING THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT BECAUSE ITS NOT UNDER MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WON'T COVER IT EITHER BECAUSE WE STOPPED THE FIRE... WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND. NOW AFTER DOING $3000 AND UPWARD OF THERE IN WORK REPLACING ALL THE WIRING (COMPUTER AND FUSE BOX) IT STILL WONT RUN. HELLLPPPP! *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE ENGINE LEAK AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT CRANKSHAFT SEAL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.
