My wife and I were driving to the dealer to have a safety recall service performed on her Jeep Wrangler 4XE. We had just merged onto the highway, I was in my car, behind my wife in her Jeep. Less than a mile onto the highway, my wife suddenly slowed down and moved to the right lane. As she moved over to the right lane, I saw her front tire violently wobbling back and forth. We slowed down to 30mph on the highway and after approximately 30 seconds the problem seemed to resolve. We limped our way to the exit (about another mile) and to the dealer about 1/4 mile off the highway. When my wife got out of the car she was still shaking, rattled by what had just happened. When we described what happened to the service center they responded "oh, you had the death wobble." After some research, I watched several videos about the death wobble, which confirmed what I had just seen. What if my wife had panicked and pulled over into another car in the right lane? What if she was on a small 2 lane highway and veered off the road and down an embankment? There were no warning lights or messages on the vehicle indicating any problem prior to this happening. This happened with ZERO warning and was terrifying to watch, let alone my poor wife experiencing first hand. The Jeep dealership has run diagnostics and report it is a bad steering damper. More than 3 weeks later the car remains at the dealership, awaiting repair of not only that, but also the safety recall fix for the hybrid battery. Communication from the dealership has been vague and suspicious in my opinion. They repeatedly have said they are waiting to hear from jeep on what to do next. My research indicates a previous class action suit relating to this "death wobble" issue on previous models. How does something this dangerous still happen on a 2023 model car with 19000 miles in 2025. I'm shocked at how casually the dealer and manufacturer have addressed this issue.
I am filing this complaint regarding the serious safety hazard associated with the fire-risk recall on my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The official manufacturer recall letter states: “The high-voltage battery may become damaged under normal operation which could lead to a vehicle fire.” The recall instructions also direct me to: Fully discharge the high-voltage battery Not charge the vehicle Park the vehicle away from all structures because of the fire risk This indicates that the vehicle may spontaneously catch fire even when driven or stored as intended. I currently cannot safely store or use this vehicle at my residence. I am a 100% permanently and totally disabled Marine Corps veteran with PTSD, and this fire hazard and the required parking instructions significantly worsen my medical condition. There is no available remedy or repair at this time. I am requesting that NHTSA document this hazard, investigate Stellantis’ handling of this recall, and ensure owner protection given the severity of the fire risk and lack of resolution.
I am reporting a safety-related electrical failure involving the heated steering wheel system in a 2023 Jeep Wrangler. While driving, the heated steering wheel malfunctioned and produced smoke from the steering wheel area. This created an immediate safety concern due to the presence of smoke and the potential for electrical overheating or fire in a critical driver control component. This was not an isolated incident. The same system required a prior repair under warranty in late 2023. Despite that repair, the failure recurred in late 2025 with more severe symptoms, including overheating and damage to electrical components. The vehicle was taken out of service for repair, and the total time out of service related to this issue was approximately 115 days due to parts delays and repair time. The problem was confirmed and repaired by authorized dealerships, including replacement of the steering wheel and related electrical components. There were no meaningful warning indicators prior to the failure. The issue occurred during normal operations. The repeated failure of the same system, combined with smoke and electrical malfunction in the steering wheel, raises concern about a potential defect that could pose a safety risk to drivers and passengers.
While driving at highway speeds 40 and over vehicle may begin to experience “death wobble” where deceleration and sudden stopping is required. It becomes very hard to control vehicle and loss of control may be possible. Vehicle violently shakes from front end after minor bump or skip in roadway. Recently, I experienced what is widely known as the “death wobble,” a violent and uncontrollable shaking of the steering wheel and front end while driving. This incident nearly caused me to lose control of the vehicle and crash, creating an extremely dangerous situation for myself and others on the road. The “death wobble” is caused by defective or worn suspension and steering components, including track bar bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, and other parts. The experience was terrifying, and I had to carefully slow down and pull over to regain control of the vehicle. I am aware that a nationwide class-action lawsuit settlement was approved in June 2023 for Jeep Wrangler models (2018–2020) and Jeep Gladiator models (2020) for this exact issue. The settlement provided extended warranties, potential coverage for suspension components, and reimbursements for repairs. While my vehicle is a 2023 model, I am concerned that this ongoing safety defect persists in newer models as well, which suggests that Jeep has not adequately addressed the problem. My vehicle is currently at a dealership, and I have been informed that I am responsible for covering the cost of repairs despite this being a known and dangerous defect. I strongly believe this is an unfair burden on consumers and poses a continuing public safety risk. STATEMENT OF FACTS 1.I am the registered owner of a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (VIN: [XXX]), purchased for approximately $75,000 USD, inclusive of all taxes and registration, in cash. 2.I have been driving different cars for over 25 years and have owned multiple vehicles. This Jeep Wrangler is the most expensive vehicle I have ever owned, and the only one to cause severe safety issues for me and my family. 3.I primarily drive this vehicle on weekends with my two young children (ages [XXX] and [XXX]) seated in the rear seats. The persistent and unresolved mechanical issues with this vehicle have directly jeopardized our physical safety and my livelihood( I couldn’t go to work during many weeks) 4.There are new problems related to manufacturing defects that keep poping up every month since last 6 months while the car is only used for 25k and under basic warranty (Example on top of serious DEATH WOBBLE issue , there are incidents of COOLANT ISSUES, 95B SAFETY RECALL, BATTERY PACK ISSUES- REFER below Photos, in addition I have phone messages and VIDEOS of DEATH WOBBLE as Evidence) ISSUES AND SERVICE HISTORY 4.At approximately 5,000 miles of use, the vehicle began exhibiting significant technical issues. 5.The first major defect was related to the battery pack, which rendered the vehicle inoperable. We have been experiencing a bouncing and shaking in the front end of our vehicle while driving at highway speeds. This happens when hitting the slightest bump or transitions from pavement to concrete. Last week while driving on the highway the shaking and bouncing was so violent that I can't believe I didn't lose control. I brought the vehicle to the dealer and for the second time they replaced more suspension items in the front end. After doing some research I found out that this has been a problem with these vehicles for quite some time and that it's known as the "Death Wobble". After what I experienced I can understand why. I called Jeep and spoke to multiple people in different departments and as they acknowledge the problem they don't seem to care how unsafe the issue is. I can't believe there haven't been any deaths related to this and I'm hoping you might investigate these issues further before that happens.
At highway speeds,60+ the jeep starts an extreme wobbling and shaking when I hit a bump. Sometimes I can slow down and it stops and other times I have to pull Over and come to a complete stop. I just bought this jeep less than two weeks ago and it’s now in service getting a new steering damper. Everything I’m reading online says this is just a Bandaid. My husband knows about Cars and he said this will only absorb the shaking until it wears out and then it will start again. I was told it was their third jeep today with a death wobble. They sold the jeep to me with this issue and now I have to pay a warranty deductible 10 days after purchase to get it fixed. It only has 33,000 miles on it. It’s hard to control the steering at 70 mph when the entire front end starts violently shaking.
The vehicle violently shakes after hitting minor bumps on the road. The steering wheel shakes not allowing you to have control of the vehicle. The vehicle can hit another vehicle or roll over due to this defect. This is a serious issue linked to poor quality parts and craftsmanship from the manufacturer. This can cause serious injury or death if not fixed immediately. This also causes the alignment to go out and pre-mature wear and tear on the tires. Mark my words someone will die from this failure.
At 40 mph and above and without warning, the front end of the vehicle will begin to bounce and shake from side to side causing the steering wheel to also shake, thus making it difficult for the driver to safely steer the vehicle. Once speed is reduced the shaking stops and normal control is regained. This issue has occurred multiple times and lasts anywhere from a few seconds to over a minute.
When driving on the freeway. Car starts to wobble and the whole car starts to shake. The steering wheel trembles as well. Every time I hit a bump it starts to wobble more.. everyday it keeps getting worse as I drive it.

The dealer removed the steering damper and completed the purge process and checked the torque of the lug nuts, and the tire pressure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Coastal Jeep Ram of Quincy (1724 W Jefferson St, Quincy, FL 32351); where it was diagnosed with the death wobble and found the star online publication case [XXX] for shimmy in front and confirmed that the failure was due to the steering damper and star online purge steering damper and performed a multipoint inspection. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Tallahassee Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Fiat, where it was diagnosed that the steering damper needed to be replaced, and a multipoint inspection was performed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer. No additional assistance was not provided. Upon researching the failure, the contact's husband became aware that the vehicle had experienced the Death Wobble. The contact stated that while traveling over a bridge and driving 50 MPH over a road seam, the failure recurred. The driver came to a complete stop. The contact stated that the failure recurred while her husband was driving the vehicle, causing the contact's husband to decelerate to 10 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering damper needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
Vehicle: 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Mileage: Approx. 67,000 Case Number with Jeep/Stellantis: 94808242 I am reporting a recurring and dangerous “death wobble” safety defect in my 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. I have experienced more than 30 separate incidents of violent front-end shaking while driving, often at highway speeds. The wobble happens suddenly without warning and causes the vehicle to become difficult to control, creating a serious risk of losing control, swerving into other lanes, or causing a crash. I have three children who regularly ride in this vehicle, and these episodes have occurred while they were present. The problem has occurred under multiple road and weather conditions. I have attempted repairs including new tires and new shocks, and the issue still persists. The vehicle has been evaluated by Jeep dealership service departments and the problem has not been resolved. I have documented each event with video recordings and logs including date, time, speed, tire pressure, and temperature. The manufacturer has opened Case #94808242, but the defect remains unresolved. This is an ongoing safety hazard and the vehicle is unsafe to operate. I am requesting an investigation and formal record of this recurring safety defect.
On October 27th, my Jeep started shaking violently as I was driving on the highway. I brought the Jeep to the dealership, they test drove it, and the mechanic did not experience the shaking so I was told “that’s just what Jeeps do”. I then researched Jeep shaking and found the Death Wobble is a common problem among Jeeps and there are several ways to fix it. I took my Jeep back to the dealership, they once again test drove it and could not replicate the wobble. They said I could leave it there and they could continue to drive it daily to find the problem, as they cannot fix it if the mechanic cannot experience the wobble. I don’t have another vehicle to drive and cannot leave my vehicle there indefinitely. They did an alignment, and sent me on my way. The jeep continues to violently wobble, today forcing me to pull off on the side of the highway. This is not safe, I feel terrified to drive it over 60 mph, and feel this is totally unacceptable to be told “this is what Jeeps do” and “this is just your vehicle”. I expect to feel safe in a $40,000 car I bought brand new last year.

My 2023 Jeep Wrangler is experiencing the "Death Wobble" while driving down the highway or on uneven paved roads. During the "Death Wobble", the steering wheel starts shaking uncontrollably. I have to decelerated to regained control of the vehicle, at which point the shaking of the steering wheel stops. This has become a persistent failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed as having defective tires from Bridgestone. The dealership is requesting the consumer buy new tires to remediated the death wobble and defective tires from Bridgestone.
Jeep Death Wobble- car shakes violently at freeway speeds (anything over 45 mph) if even small bumps or rain ruts in road. Car is stock parts (no modifications) and has not been used off-road. First occurred at less than 18K miles- repair made by Jeep Dealer, but issue returned within 10K miles. 2nd attempt at repair was blamed by dealer on tires off-balance, however issue has continued to occur. 3rd attempt was made to meet with Service manager at dealership, however he failed to show for meeting and then did not return calls.
When driving the vehicle at 60mph or faster, the steering wheel will begin to shake uncontrollably and continue to rattle for approximately 30 seconds until the vehicle is reduced speed to about 40mph or less. If I resume speed again, the shaking vibrations will continue to happen repeatedly. This puts my safety at risk when I attempt to drive on the freeway and approach the speed limit and causes me to reduce my speed to an unsafe speed far lower than the flow of traffic on the freeway. In addition, while the vehicle is vibrating/shaking, there is a lack of control of the vehicle and puts the driver in a panic state, because it feels like a flat/blown tire at such a high speed. The vehicle was taken into the dealership and they would not check the problem until I paid for an alignment maintenance fee of over $300. Therefore, I proceeded with the costs and they discovered some parts that need to be replaced by the factory. In spite of this, the dealership is holding me responsible for the process of elimination charges because the extended warranty XF1 and recall V41 are not attached to my VIN on this vehicle. However, these recalls are attached to vehicles made on or before November 2020 and my vehicle was built November 2022. I am aware of this issue, because my prior jeep wrangler vehicle was a 2019 and I experienced the same safety issues, and I brought it in and found out about the recall issued and it was repaired for my safety. However, the same safety issues are occurring in my 2023 jeep wrangler with only 25,000 miles on it, but no recalls are attached to my VIN to assist with the problem. Each time the vehicle malfunctions there is no warning lamps, no messages or any other symptoms of the problem prior to failure. The incident first started to appear around 2/2/2024 & continued to happen more frequently with time. I scheduled the repair at the jeep dealership on 2/27/2024 and they currently still have my vehicle for this malfunction.
