I am writing to file a complaint regarding a 2015 Kia Optima I purchased from Synergy Auto Deals LLC (formerly located at 1001 S State Road 7 Hollywood, FL 33023). The dealership failed to disclose a critical open safety recall on the vehicle at the time of sale, which I believe violates consumer safety standards and puts me at significant risk. Details of the Complaint 1. Undisclosed Safety Recall: • The vehicle has an open safety recall that was never disclosed during the purchase process. I only became aware of the recall after the sale, which has caused significant inconvenience and concern about my safety. 2. Dealer Misrepresentation: • In addition to failing to disclose the safety recall, the dealership misrepresented other aspects of the sale, including the price and fees, and employed deceptive practices during the loan approval process. 3. Expenses Incurred: • As a result of these issues, I have incurred additional costs, including: • Gas mileage to address the recall issue • New tires • Monthly payments for a vehicle that was sold under false pretenses • Insurance payments • Costs for repairs related to the recall Vehicle Information • Year: 2015 • Make: Kia • Model: Optima Desired Resolution I am requesting the NHTSA to: • Investigate this dealership’s practices, particularly regarding the failure to disclose safety recalls. • Assess whether this case is part of a broader pattern that may require additional enforcement actions. • Provide guidance on any potential remedies or reimbursements available for these safety-related violations. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.
I purchased my car in 2015 at 23k miles, now we're at 86k miles and I'm experiencing issues. How is there a recall for this car but no remedy yet when there is a high risk of fire? Shouldn't there be a resolution for this safety concern? I noticed my car in 2022 would smoke here and there when driving, and I would smell burning. I took it to my mechanic and he changed the head gasket, and the smoking stopped. There is residue on my engine from a leak from the oil. My mechanic at the time told me I might still smell burning oil just due to that. As time went on things were fine but a year later, the oil smell came back stronger. I notice it only on longer drives, so I do believe my car is leaking oil. Also, the amount of time I've changed my break lights this year and head lights. They dim so fast over time and eventually go out to where I have to replace them. There is 100% an electrical issue going on.

The engine had less than 40K miles on it and a total engine failure occurred due to blown head gasket. They replaced the engine with another used engine and this one started smoking and nearly caught on fire, resulting in another total engine failure. They are now trying to install an engine with an unknown amount of mileage on it as the replacement engine.
3 months prior to my car going into limp mode I had an incident where I was on the highway and had to come to a stop of major traffic and suddenly my car cut off out of nowhere. I got it to crank after putting it in park, but it was very scary being on the highway thank God it was traffic to where cars wasn't going so fast. Fast-forward to my recent incident to now my car's now in limp mode (MIL) same situation different times was getting on the highway and started to pick up speed to accelerate to 60mph my engine light started to blink Non-Stop and here I am again in a terrifying situation to where I have to get back off of the freeway and I also was on my way to work now having to call in and praying and hoping nothing happens to me while trying to get my car home now I've called I'm certain dealerships decided to go with a dealership to get my recalls done and the dealer basically told me he told his mechanics to hurry up and do my recalls that he could do and get my car out of their shop and also told me to get rid of my car basically refusing to do what he's supposed to do regardless but I truly believe I need a new engine and that's why the dealer rushed me out I just want to know how can I get my vehicle fixed with no problems and also without dealerships denying me. I would love to hear back from you all to know my next step in getting my vehicle recall done please and thank you
HECU has been replaced by kia dealership but I paid although all recalls performed are free.
HECU has been replaced but has not been free
Paint delamination on top surfaces of the vehicle.
Oils going some where no oil puddles but very low on oil
White pearl paint is chipping all around the car. At times big chucks of paint just flake off
My paint started fading then the exterior metal layer on the roof started to chip off
Passenger door handle fell off in my hand. Worried the orhers will do the same. When I called the dealership in Cocoa FL they said that was the 5th call for door handles falling off this week. There was a recall for kia door handles in Canada. 5 calls to one dealership in a week! Multiply that by all the dealerships in the USA and add the ones that don't go through the dealerships. I believe it is worth an investigation into a recall.
The last recall that was fixed is occuring again . Car loosing power warning signal popping up Sometimes smells like matches after parked.
There seems to be some oil burning off when I drive. But none leaking on the ground. My car is consuming oil. Also if I press the gas to speed up, my car will stall a bit and then some black smoke will exit my exhaust.
While I was driving the car just stopped accelerating, the dash was still lit but the car went completely out would not turn over or restart,
White pearl paint peeling off, all over hood, etc

When i was in the highway, the car starts shaking and the engine light turned on. Parked car in the nearest rest stop and I immediately smell smoke coming from engine
Hello, I am writing a complain in hopes of getting some type of help to try and recover damage on my car. I own a KIA OPTIMA 2015 and sometime in November of 2023 I received a letter in the mail stating the car had a recall on it that could result in the car catching on fire. While I was waiting for the remedy letter to come in less than a month after I received the recall letter the car randomly caught on fire. I strongly believe that it had to do with the recall because the car was Fine before that and had no check engine light on or anything on the dash board. The car was parked in the backyard of my residence in which the letter did warn to park away from any residence if any light was on in the car but at this time no warning light was shown on the dashboard. At this time I was taking my brother who is a minor to school when it happened. It was around 8am in the morning when I had turned on the car to let it warm up and as I ran inside the house for less than 2 minutes I came back to the car shut off making a weird noise. When I tried to turn it back on it took less than a minute and it started to catch on fire. I did have to call the fire department as the flames moved fast and were uncontrollable. My insurance unfortunately was no help in helping recover anything and when I reached out to the kia company after 2 long months of waiting on answers I was told that they could not offer no type of reimbursement as they aren't sure how or why the fire started. They said that the fire started in the compartment of the passenger side which the recall letter did mention something similar to that.Kia company does not want to take any responsibility in their mistakes and just brushed me off. I am now left with no car and a bill that I am waiting for in the mail from calling the fire department. Not only was my life in danger but so was my brother as he did suffer a panic attack from how scared he was that day. Please assist in what I can do next. Thank you
This is about paint damage on my Optima is a known factory paint defect. This factory paint defect, specifically paint delamination causes bubbling, peeling then flaking off in large chunks while driving, has been reported on 2015 KIA Optima with white pearl paint. The damages ares are exposed to the metal, subject to rust and corrosion. On 5/30/35 KIA in Ontario, Ca. Body Shop Manager Yvonne Ramirez inspected my vehicle and immediately confirmed the paint damages to the exterior of my vehicle is a known factory paint defect on 2015 Optima with white paint. Yvonne instructed me to contact Corporate KIA, report the case, receive a claim # then contact her to schedule an appointment for the repair. On June 3, 2025 KIA reopened case number [XXX] originally reported on June 11, 2024. No claim # issues, no repairs made. Safety Concern: The paint damage has affected both sides of the adhesive inside the glass securing the windshield. This is a nation wide problem. Owners have documented and continue to keep reporting this problem to KIA, NHTSA, AutoLine and BBB. Several class-action lawsuits have been filed against KIA in USA and Canada. This is also happening to Toyota, Honda & Subaru. It’s basically all the car manufacturers who are using this pearl white paint. The amount of Optima owners dealing with the massive rapidly spreading paint defect to their vehicle is over whelming. December 2023 my 2015 KIA Optima SXT Pearl White beautiful exterior paint began to bubble, peel, flake followed by large chunks of paint falling off even while driving. This started on the roof top right and left of the rear window. February 2024 - the same paint damages started on the right and left sails/pillars next to the front wind shield and is causing damage, bubbling and spreading through out the left and right side of the glass. It is a safety concern. March 2025 - the same paint damage started on the top right truck with huge chunks of paint falling off while driving.HELP INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The vehicle has a seized motor within the manufacturers powertrain warranty. They are denying to repair/ replace the motor because they claim a recall was not performed. The NHTSA does not currently show the recall that needed to be performed. The vehicle should still be covered by KIA's powertrain warranty and the dealer is not accepting responsibility.

Engine failure I am writing to express my serious concern regarding the defective and unsafe vehicle that I purchased from Kia Motors. It has come to my attention that Kia Motors is selling vehicles with known defects that can potentially cause harm or even death to its customers. I demand immediate action to rectify this situation and ensure the safety of all Kia vehicle owners. On [XXX], I visited a Kia Motors dealership to address a recall for the ksds engine on my vehicle. I was told the service was complete and I retrieved my vehicle. However, in December 2023, my vehicle suddenly stopped working in a busy intersection without any warning. I had my vehicle towed to a Kia Motors service center, where I was informed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. A month later, I discovered that the ksds recall repair had never been performed on my vehicle. I ask so what happened with the recall they said at the time they didn’t have an engine available they were on back order .but the failed to inform me of this and I was driving around in a safety hazard. They messed up and want me to be responsible for there mistakes. An apology is not enough Kia Motors is still selling vehicles with this dangerous defect and denying customers replacements. I demand that Kia Motors fixes the engine of my vehicle at no cost to me. Failure to do so will result in legal action. I implore Kia Motors to prioritize customer safety by taking immediate action. It is crucial that Kia Motors either fix my vehicle I expect a prompt response outlining the steps Kia Motors will take to rectify this situation and ensure customer safety. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On Nov 22 2023, while driving my car the engine light came on and within 10 mins the car shut off while moving in traffic. Using the residual speed I was able to safely pull over and after multiple attempts to restart, there was smoke coming from the engine. Had the car towed and approx 3 weeks later (multiple attempts to contact the dealership and reaching out to the manufacturer) the dealership accepted the car to try to assess the issue. When this happened, it was only then I was aware of the recall which seemed to be related to this exact issue. The manufacturer and dealer have then slowly worked on trying to resolve the issue. This complaint is solely for informational purposes at the moment as it's been almost a week since I was able to contact anyone. My car is currently at the dealership with no feedback on the outcome.

The contact stated that she was able to restart the vehicle after some time. The vehicle was driven to the residence of the contact's mother. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the manufacturer was contacted and had declined to cover the repair because the contact had failed to complete an unknown software update on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under the unknown recall because the recall had expired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Only 77k miles, all recalls addressed. Engine stopped going about 45 mph, was able to coast into a gas station luckily. Towed to a Kia dealer where it's been for 3 months waiting to be diagnosed. Kia won't reimburse towing or rental until it's diagnosed. I paid $350 to get it diagnosed. They are saying it'll be another couple weeks before that even happens. I can't afford constant rental car. This has been a nightmare.
I have experienced several issues with my Kia. I have replaced catalytic converter (direct fit), and the valve covering gasket. However, the engine reports issues every other month. The dealership dismissed everything stating that the engine is fine. But wherever I take the car to get an oil change, they say I need to contact the dealership. I have been consistently managing my car maintenance but it does not help.
I have a 2015 Kia optima GDI, I never had any issues with this vehicle and I kept with my oil changes, but one day in November I was driving on the highway doing about 65 my car shut off in the middle of the highway, I only had the car for 2.5 years. I took it to advance auto got the battery and alternator checked which said that I had a bad alternator, and a code of p1326. The alternator was changed but I am still not able to drive my car, I took it to my local Kia dealership and hopefully they’ll be able to replace the engine. I never had any issues with this car but paying on a car that I can’t drive is very stressful. I will never buy a Kia vehicle again

The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that the engine was previously replaced due to abnormal knocking sound. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 60-65 MPH, there was a strong gasoline odor coming through the A/C vents. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the low-pressure fuel hose was leaking and needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V093000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact pulled over to the side of the road however, the vehicle was not able to restart. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contacts home. The vehicle had been diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the failure was caused by the engine seizing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
Engine lost power and when restart was attempted, it could torn turn over. Tried restarting 3 times with no success. After this, smoke started coming from the hood. I opened the hood and noticed a small flame at the driver side bottom of the engine compartment. Flame intensified and grew and eventually I extinguished with a fire extinguisher. I had just replaced the starter that same week and replaced some wiring at a local car repair facility.
I was driving when the vehicle began to shake and then the check engine light came on. I stopped at a red light and when the light turned green and I processed to go the car shut off while in traffic. I then waited to see if the car would turn back on and it did just long enough for me to get out of the roadway. I had the car towed back to the dealer from whom I purchased the car from. He had his mechanic check the vehicle out and informed me that the engine seized. He then had it towed to a repair shop and they also confirmed the engine seized. When I purchased the vehicle 9 months ago it came with a warranty. The warranty company is now saying that I am responsible for the cost of the diagnostic testing which is $2,500.00 before they will replace the engine. I reached out to Kia and they are also saying that I am responsible for the diagnostic testing and that the warranty company can choose a new or used engine replacement. I asked Kia if the engine was ever replaced during the first engine recall but representative refused to say if it was or wasn't. My car is still at the repair shop. These matter needs to be addressed as there may be others going through the same issue. This is the second time this has happened to me. I previously had a 2011 Kia Sportage that did the same exact thing. I returned it to the dealer whom I purchased it from and that vehicle was added to my credit report as a repo and resold at an auction. I hope and pray the issue was repaired before it was sold.
I bought a 2015 Kia optima in February of 2023. In October the engine completely seized with zero warning. The vehicle was always properly serviced while in my possession. The engine seized and the car went into limp mode during the first snow storm of the year on one of the deadliest mountain passes of North Idaho. I, a young woman, was stranded almost an hour outside of town on the side of a freeway on a mountain during a snow storm. The power in my car shut off so I was unable to use the heat system. I waited approximately 3 hours in these conditions for a family member to arrive. I then had the vehicle towed 40 miles back to town and have been without a vehicle since. Kia USA has only offered $40 a day in rental reimbursement to assist with the situation. However, due to my age I am unable to rent a vehicle. My personal dealership where I purchased the vehicle from has denied letting me rent a vehicle from them. The Local Kia dealership has not provided me with a loaner vehicle despite being on the list for over two months. Since dealing with all of this, I have learned that there is not only 1 but 2 recalls on my vehicle and one is not even going to be fixed due to Kia not having the replacement parts ready, meaning my vehicle can explode at any given time.
Engine failure & fuel leak. Also oil was burning extremely fast . I had taking it to the dealership while back ago for a recall and said it was fixed. Few months later gas started running out fast. A check light engine came on saying there was an evaporation leak. I did call the dealership to see what exactly they fixed, emailed them. They kept telling me they would call me back and never did. Wouldn’t get any emails back. I took it upon headquarters to let them know about the oil burning fast and emailed. And called them. Apparently there was nothing they can do and told me I have to call the dealership. I took the car to my mechanic because I trust him more than the actual dealership at this point. And I brought up concerns about my safety being in that car. No one heard me out or seemed to care. And now forward months later after check light engines on and the pcv valve getting changed, purge valve. The light stopped coming on after changing the purge valve got change which linked to the code that showed up. I started seeing online that Kia optima’s have so many engine problems , misfires etc. and now my Kia has an engine failure. I tried to contact Kia again by entering the info for a settlement and I was told there is nothing they can do about it. So now I’m left with $5,500 to finish paying off my loan for the car and can’t even drive the car anymore. I havnt felt safe In my car for months and no one would hear me out.
Kia has a Nation Wide Campaign for faulty engines, that will display a code (consistent in the campaign), my daughter purchased a 2015 Kia Optima, 76,000 miles, that was a rebuilt title, however the damage was on the back passenger door, body damage only. Was surprised it was even totaled out from the insurance, however due to the high theft issues with Kia's insurance companies are paying them out to avoid the theft as well as the engine issues. Currently, Kia is telling us that they will not replace the engine (even though this is the campaign they are advertising) due to the rebuilt title, even though the defective engine is from the manufacture and nothing to do with the body damage to the back passenger door. This car was repaired in full and cleared to be re-titled as a rebuilt title. These engine issues can cause the vehicle to seize while driving, it goes into Limp mode (safety mode) which reduces the speed and power to the engine and there are reports that the engine can catch fire. Kia is doing these engine replacements under the MFG warranty and have stated they are lifetime replacements, due to the continued problems and yet they want to not replace hers when a insurance company decided to total the car our for damage that could have been repaired.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 MPH, the engine seized. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle shut off. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that there was metal in the intake and exhaust cam shaft. There were metal shavings in the oil. The contact was also informed that the pistons were off by twenty-four degrees. There was an indication that cylinders #1, #2, and #4 had misfired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 102,589.
Car was stolen due to Kia’s faulty ignition start my steering system was broken into and my car was stolen.
