OWNER WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE OWNER LOST STEERING AND BRAKE POWER THIS DEFECT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 3 TIMES AND THE DEALER HAS CHANGED THE COMPRESSOR. NOW THE VEHICLE IS STILL EXPERIENCING THIS DEFECT. OWNER SAYS THE OIL WAS CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *NM

VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER TO BE SERVICED FOUR TIMES FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. SINCE LAST INSPECTION IT COULD NOT BE DETERMINED AS TO WHY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON.*AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT TURNED ON AND OFF MUTIPLE TIMES WITHIN THE YEAR. ENGINE FINALLY NO LONGER OPERATED. *AK
DEFICIENT WHEEL BEARING ON KIA RIO. *BF RECURRING PROBLEMS WITH THE WHEEL BEARINGS. THE CURRENT WHEEL BEARING PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE TIRES. THE NOISE STILL EXISTS. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *SC *JB
THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING FLUID FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE MECHANIC CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDED FURTHER DETAILS. *NM

WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD CLINKING SOUND COMING FROM THE TRUNK AREA. CONSUMER THOUGHT THAT HE WAS HIT. HOWEVER, WHEN TURNING AROUND TO PROCEED, THE ENGINE COMPLETELY FAILED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE THE STARTER WAS GONE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *JB
I HAVE A THIRD FACTORY WHEEL ON MY CAR THAT HAS BROKE DURING NORMAL DRIVING. THE WHEEL STARTED MAKING A SOUND LIKE BEARINGS GOING OUT ON THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE. WHEN I PULLED INTO THE DRIVE WAY I HEARD THE WHEEL BRAKE. WHEN I CHECKED IT, SURE ENOUGH IT BROKE THROUGH. I NOW HAVE KEPT TWO OUT THREE WHEELS THAT HAVE BROKE. *AK
FUEL DISTRIBUTOR ASSEMBLY WAS LEAKING. *NM WHEN THE CONSUMER CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE RECALL PERFORMED, SHE WAS TOLD NO APPOINTMENT WAS NECESSARY ON SATURDAYS, HOWEVER WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED SHE WAS TOLD AN APPOINTMENT WAS NECESSARY, SO THE CONSUMER HAD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT SATURDAY, HOWEVER WHEN SHE RETURNED SHE WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE. *JB
FRONT DRIVER'S PLASTIC DOOR MECHANISM BROKE WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE, DEALER REPLACED THE MECHANISM AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE OF$210.00. *AK
WHILE DRIVING A SQUEAKING NOISE WAS HEARD. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL RIM CRACKED. *AK
CONSUMER HEARD A SQUEALING NOISE IN THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF VEHICLE. SHE WAS NOT SURE WHETHER IT WAS A TIRE, TIE ROD OR SUSPENSION. WHEN SHE TOOK VEHICLE TO KIA, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR WHERE THAT NOISE WAS COMING FROM. CONSUMER INSISTED NOISE WAS GETTING WORSE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS OFF BALANCE. THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE THE RIGHT FRONT RIM BUSTED. THIS OCCURRED TWICE TWO YEARS AGO BECAUSE CONSUMER OVERLOADED THE VEHICLE. THE SAME RIM BUSTED AGAIN WITHOUT THE VEHICLE BEING OVERLOADED.*AK
JULY 31,2004. I STARTED HEARING A NOISE TOWARDS THE RIGHT SIDE FRONT TIRE. WITH IN 2 DAYS THE NOISE GOT LOUDER. I TOOK THE CAR THE THE KIA DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DID A VISUAL INSPECTION ON MY CAR AND DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I WAS ALSO TOLD I HAD TO MANY MILE (61,000) MILES THAT IF THEY TOOK IT APART TO FIND THE PROBLEM I WOULD BE CHARGED $75.00 PER HOUR. I DID NOT TAKE IT BACK. WITH IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS THE NOISE GOT LOUDER AND I FELT THE TIRE WAS NOT PERFORMING THE SAME. SO I TOOK IT TO WHERE I GET MY TIRES. THERE THEY ALSO DID A VISUAL AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD I NEED NEW TIRES. I DID NOT DRIVE MY CAR FOR 1 WEEK SO I COULD GET THE MONEY TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER. I TOOK MY CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC SHOP ON SUNDAY THERE HE TOOK OFF THE TIRE CHECKED THE BRAKES, THE ROTER AND ALL THE BEARINGS AND SCREWS UNDER THE CAR. HE SAID HE COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. SO I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH ME TO WORK SO I COULD TAKE IT INTO THE DEALER AFTER WORK. I TALKED TO THE MECHANIC AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT ABOUT WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON AND HE ASKED THAT I LET HIM TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAR. SO HE TOOK OFF THE TIRE AND SET IT ASIDE AND STARTED HIS SEARCH. WHEN HE WAS ABOUT TO PUT THE TIRE BACK ON TO THE CAR HE NOTICED A CRACK AROUND THE RIM. THE CRACK WENT ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE. IT IS ALMOST A COMPLETE CIRCLE. IT WAS ABOUT TO TOTALLY CRACK OFF THE CAR. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT HELP ME DUE TO THE MILES I HAD ON MY CAR. I DO DRIVE ALOT BUT I FEEL THIS IS A TOTAL DEFECT IN THE RIM. I HAVE 2 RIMS ON ORDER
PROBLEM WITH 2001 KIA RIO ENGINE STALLED. *MR THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON DUE TO OVERHEATING, AND THE FUEL PUMP STOPPED WORKING DUE TO WATER CONTAMINATION IN THE GAS TANK. THE TEMPERATURE WENT UP ONCE THE FUEL BOX WAS BROKEN DUE TO AN ACCIDENT WHICH CAUSED THE RADIATOR FUSE TO BLOW. *SC *JB
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S ENGINE. *MR WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FROM SLOWING DOWN, THE VEHICLE JERKED INTO GEAR. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AFTER SEVERAL VISITS. MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM PER DEALER. THE FRONT END MADE NOISES, AND THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON FIVE OCCASIONS FOR THE AIR BAG. *SC *JB
THE FIRST TIME I HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR AND THOUGHT IT WAS EITHER MY BRAKES OR A PVC BOOT GOING OUT ON MY CAR. DECEMBER 4, 2003. I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND MY WHEEL-RIM WAS SERIOUSLY CRACKED. IT WAS CRACKED ALMOST THE ENTIRE WAY AROUND JUST ABUT AN INCH FROM THE HOLES FOR THE LUGS. IF IT WOULD HAVE BROKE COMPLETELY WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM ARIZONA TO FRESNO, CALIFORNIA, MY PASSENGER AND I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I DO TAKE AROUND 6-8 LONG DISTANCE TRIPS PER YEAR. WE WERE LUCKY. THE WHEEL-RIM WAS REPLACED WITH ONE PURCHASED FROM A USED AUTO PARTS GARAGE. THE SECOND TIME THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED WAS JULY 1, 2004 ON THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. AGAIN I HEARD THE NOISE AND THOUGHT OF OTHER POSSIBLE PROBLEMS, BUT WAS TOTALLY SHOCKED WHEN THE TIRE REPAIRMAN CHECKED AND TOLD ME THAT I HAD A CRACK IN MY RIM. I CALLED SEVERAL KIA DEALERS, ONE NEVER RETURNED MY CALL AND THE OTHER SAID THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALL BEING DONE FOR THAT PROBLEM. I THEN WENT TO A USED AUTO PARTS STORE AN PURCHASED ANOTHER RIM AND HAD IT REPLACED AT THE TIRE REPAIR SHOP WHERE I DO BUSINESS. AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT I WENT BACK AND BOUGHT A SPARE RIM JUST IN CASE THIS PROBLEM SHOULD ARISE AGAIN. THIS TIME I KEPT THE BROKEN RIM. ANOTHER PROBLEM I HAVE IS THE RIGHT SIDE DOOR WON'T UNLOCK AS IT HAS COME APART INSIDE THE DOOR. THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL WILL HAVE TO BE TAKEN OFF TO GET TO THE INSIDE IT TO REPAIR IT. THESE ARE PROBLEMS WHICH I FEEL SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY THE DEALERS BUT OF COURSE ARE NOT BEING DONE.
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH ON AN INCLINE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING ROUGHLY. CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, AND WITHIN A HALF A MINUTE,IT WAS ON FIRE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED STEERING WHEEL SHOOK HARD. DEALERSHIP SERVICED VEHICLE FOUR TIMES, ROTORS WERE TURNED THREE TIMES, AND BRAKE SYSTEM REPLACED ONCE. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH 2001 KIA RIO.*MR THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEMS. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN REFERENCE TO THE FUEL DISTRIBUTOR AND MAIN FUEL TUBE ASSEMBLY. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEMS WERE NOT RELATED. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD OTHER PROBLEMS. THE ENGINE WOULD HESITATE WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES. THE REAR END VIBRATED. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH REAR DAMPERS. THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE DURING ACCELERATION. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT HE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE CRACKED. THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS WERE WORN EXCESSIVELY. *NM
CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS VEHICLE STALLED. ALSO, A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ALSO, NO AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT APPEARED PRIOR TO THE CRASH. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING NORTHBOUND IN THE CURB LANE WHEN THE OTHER VEHICLE TURNED LEFT INTO THE PATH OF THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE. *SC
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. *AK
9+THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, IN WHICH THE IT WAS IMPACTED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT. UPON IMPACT, REAR DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT DISCONNECTED, AND STROKE THE DRIVER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. A CHILD SAFETY SEAT WAS RETRAINED IN THIS SEAT BELT, BUT WASN'T OCCUPIED AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. PRIOR TO THE CRASH, SEAT BELT WERE CHECKED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND THE POLICE INSPECTOR INDICATED THE BELTS WERE FINE. *AK *NM
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH UP AN INCLINE VEHICLE RAN ROUGH. CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER. WITHIN A HALF A MINUTE, VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. *AK
SINCE DECEMBER '03, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES. ON 2 OCCASSIONS, CAR BUCKS WHILE DRIVING AND STALLS. HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES SINCE DECEMBER. I AM NOW SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR IT WILL BREAK DOWN AGAIN. *AK
CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE BY USING THE KEY. WHEN THE CONSUMER ENTERED VEHICLE FROM THE UNLOCKED BACK DOOR IT WAS STILL NOT POSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM INSIDE. *AK
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN MY 2001 KIA RIO AND IT STARTED TO RUN REALLY FUNNY AND THE NEXT THING I KNEW I STEPPED ON THE GAS AND THE WASN'T ACCELERATING ANYMORE SO I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AND THE CAR WAS ON FIRE SO I GOT OUT AND CALLED 911. THE CAR HAS BEEN DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS.*AK
CHRISTMAS DAY, 2003 IMMEDIATE AND ENGULFING ENGINE FIRE WHILE MY CAR WAS IDLING FOR A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.

CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE CENTER OF THE WHEELS CRACKED AND FELL APART. CONSUMER BEGAN TO HEAR A CLANKING SOUND COMING FROM THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. AS THE CONSUMER BEGAN TO REMOVE THE WHEEL THE CENTER BROKE UP IN THE PROCESS. THIS PROBLEM AFFECTED THE TWO BACK WHEELS. *AK
IN DECEMBER OF 2003 I STARTED HEARING A LOUD CLANKING FROM THE PASSENGER-SIDE, REAR WHEEL. ASSUMING IT WAS THE REAR BRAKES NEEDING REPLACED, I PURCHASED THE PARTS. UPON REMOVING THE HUB CAP I SAW THAT THE RIM WAS SEVERELY CRACKED. WITHIN AN INCH OR SO OF ACTUALLY BREAKING COMPLETELY APART. (THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORN.) WHEN I RETURNED THE BRAKE PARTS TO HIGH DESERT KIA, IN VICTORVILLE, CA., I TOLD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT THE CRACKED RIM AND INQUIRED OF THE WARRANTY ON THE RIMS. I WAS TOLD THE WARRANTY PERIOD IS 30,000 MILES.(AT THE TIME, MY VEHICLE HAD APPROX.55,000 MILES.) THEN IN JUNE OF 2004, I HEARD THE SAME CLANKING FROM THE DRIVERSIDE, REAR WHEEL. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THAT THIS RIM HAD ALSO CRACKED IN THE SAME MANNER AS THE FIRST. REALIZING THE FATAL CONSEQUENCES THAT COULD OCCUR SHOUL A RIM FAIL AND BREAK APART WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, I FIRST NOTIFIED YOU AND THEN THE KIA MOTORS HEADQUARTERS LISTED IN MY OWNERS MANUAL. UPON EXPLAINING THE CRACKING OF THE TWO RIMS AND WHAT HIGH DESERT KIA'S RESPONSE WAS TO ME, I WAS TOLD TO RETURN TO HIGH DESERT KIA AND THEY WOULD BE INSTRUCTED TO REPLACE ALL 4 OF THE RIMS ON MY RIO, AT NO CHARGE.BUT IT WOULD BE A ONCE ONLY REPLACEMENT. AND THE RIMS WOULD ONLY BE WARRANTIED FOR THE 12 MONTHS THAT IS STANDARD FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS. THE RIMS WERE REPLACED ON JULY 17TH, 2004. UPON MY INQUIRY, I WAS ASSURED THE 4 NEW RIMS ARE FROM A DIFFERENT LOT NUMBER AND MADE IN 2003.*AK
THE CONSUMER PARKED THE VEHICLE AND LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO FIND THE VEHICLE ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DUE TO A MECHANICAL FAILURE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND WILL STAY ON FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME AND GO OFF. DEALER MADE THE REPAIRS AND IT IS STILL DEFECTIVE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED CONSUMER HEARD A THUMPING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION RIGHT REAR WHEELS HAD SEVERE CRACKS IN THE WALLS. THE CRACKS WERE SUCH THAT ONE COULD ACTUALLY HOLD THE WHEELS TO THE LIGHT AND SEE THROUGH THEM. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BAD RIM UNDER WARRANTY AND KEPT THE BAD RIM. *AK
VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THINKING IT MAY JUST BE THE BRAKES THAT WERE GOING OUT, RETURNED VEHICLE TO THE SHOP. UPON INSPECTION THE SHOP FOUND THAT ALL 4 OF THE 13 INCH WHEELS HAD STRESS FRACTURES. THE FRONT 2 WERE THE WORST AS THEY HAD BEGUN TO SPLIT. WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBLITY OF A FATAL CRASH HAD THIS NOT BEEN BROUGHT TO THERE ATTENTION WHEN IT WAS.*AK
I PURCHASED A 2001 KIA RIO APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AGO. I HAVE HAD 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHERE I HAVE INSERTED THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TURN THE KEY TO START THE VEHICLE. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM WAS TO SHAKE THE STEERING WHEEL VIGOROUSLY. I COULD USE SOME INFORMATION ON WHAT MIGHT BE THE CAUSE OF THIS. THANK YOU. *LA
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY,THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DRIVER TRIED TO RESTART AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN ANALYSIS. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
NHTSA RECALL 03-V-352-000: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, FUEL LEAKS MAY DEVELOP AT THE FUEL DISTRIBUTOR ASSEMBLY, EITHER AT ITS SERVICE PORT OR AT THE MAIN FUEL TUBE ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR TO THE FUEL DISTRIBUTOR ASSEMBLY INTAKE PORT BECAUSE OF QUALITY DEVIATIONS IN THE SERVICE PORT VALVE OR MAIN FUEL TUBE ASSEMBLY. DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE FUEL DISTRIBUTOR AND FUEL CONNECTOR ASSEMBLIES. "KIA HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE". OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT KIA AT 1-800-222-5500. OIL LEAKS AT THE BOTTOM AND THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. GASKET CYL HEAD AND HEAD COVER SLIPS OUT. ALL SEAL FROM TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE CAR LEAKS. STEERING SHAKES VERY BAD WHEN THE AC IS RUNNING. (HEAD GASKET & CAM SEALS LEAKS)
NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED IN MY ACCIDENT. *AK
MY CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING WOULD NOT RESTART TOWED TO DEALER. FOUND NO PROBLEM CAR STARTED FOR THEM. RETRIEVED CAR STOPPED FOR GAS, CAR WOULD NOT RESTART, WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALER. FOUND GLITCH IN CPU WAS REPROGRAMED. GOT CAR BACK, TWO HOURS LATER CAR WOULD NOT RESTART TOWED BACK TO DEALER. REPLACED FUEL PUMP, CAR RAN FOR THREE DAYS THEN AGAIN WOULD NOT START HAS NOW BEEN TOWED BACK TO DEALER.*AK

CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH HEAVY VIBRATION IN THE FRONT PORTION OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING OVER 40 MPH. ALSO, INSURANCE HAS SKY ROCKETED, CAN'T AFFORD IT DUE TO KIA RIOS' REPUTATION AS A NON-RELIABLE CAR AND HAZARDOUS. THIS WAS TOLD TO ME BY SEVERAL INSURANCE LOCATIONS.*AK
