I BUCKLED IN MY SEAT BELT AS USUAL ONLY TO FIND WHEN SHIFTING TO DRIVE THE SEAT BELT INDICATOR LIGHT CONTINUED TO FLASH. I CHECKED THE CHILDREN'S SEAT BELT TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE BUCKLED IN AND THEY WERE. I DISCONNECTED MY SEAT BELT AND TRIED TO RECONNECT AND IT WOULD NOT RECONNECT. I VISITED THE DEALERSHIP AS THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ROUGHLY 3 MONTHS AGO AND WAS INFORMED BY THE GENERAL SALES MANAGER THIS WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND A LOANER COULD NOT BE PROVIDED UNTIL THE PART COMES IN. I ASKED IF I WOULD BE SAFE AND HE REITERATED AGAIN THIS WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I ASKED FOR THE GENERAL MANAGER AND WAS DENIED THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH HIM. I BUCKLED INTO THE PASSENGER BUCKLE AND WAS LATER INFORMED THIS WAS UNSAFE, IF I WERE TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT, I WOULD NOT BE PROTECTED. I HAVE RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE. THIS HAS YET TO BE FIXED. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 9 A.M. ON SEPTEMBER 11TH 2014 MY FAMILY AND I WERE TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON 66 FROM FRONT ROYAL VIRGINIA TO THE DULLES AIRPORT . MY BOYFRIEND [XXX] WAS DRIVING AT THE TIME AND I WAS SEATED BEHIND HIM NEXT TO OUR 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. WE WERE TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE OF 66 AT ABOUT 70 MILES AN HOUR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN OUR VEHICLE WENT WILDLY OUT OF CONTROL. WE FISHTAILED, WENT THROUGH THE RIGHT LANE OF 66 ALL THE WAY ACROSS, SLAMMING US HEAD ON INTO THE DEWEY WALL AND GUARDRAIL. I WAS VIOLENTLY JOLTED FORWARD AND SMASHED MY FACE INTO THE BACK OF THE DRIVER SEAT. I WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO FRAQUIER CO. HOSPITAL. I SUFFERED MULTIPLE NASAL FRACTURES AND 2 ABRASIONS TO MY NOSE AND GASH ON MY KNEE. I REQUIRED A CT SCAN, STITCHES, AND MY NOSE TO BE RESET. I HAD BLACK EYES, SEVERE HEAD ACHES AND SWELLING FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. THE AXEL IN THE REAR PASSENGER, BEHIND THE DRIVER SIDE, HAD SNAPPED CLEANLY AT THE WELD. THERE WAS NO MAJOR RUST AND NO JAGGED EDGES ON THE BREAK. THERE WAS ALSO NO DENT OR DAMAGED TO THE SCRAPE PLATE AS FOUND BY AUTO REPAIR SHOP.INDICATING THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN ROUGHLY. IT IS BELIEVED BY BOTH THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND IS WRITTEN IN THE POLICE REPORT AS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. MY FAMILY AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, LUCKILY MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS OK EVEN THOUGH SHE STILL TALKS ABOUT THE INCIDENT. I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE AIRPORT FOR MY GRANDFATHER'S FUNERAL WHICH I MISSED. MY NOSE WILL ALSO REQUIRE RHINOPLASTY TO BE COMPLETELY FIXED. I HAD A LOOK AT THE PART MYSELF AND HAVE PICTURES IN CAN'T BELIEVE MY EYES, I AM AWARE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT AXLES OF THESE VEHICLES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE DRIVER SIDE BRAKES LOCKED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
THE LEFT SIDE PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE MECHANISM QUIT WORKING. CANNOT OPEN DOOR FROM OUTSIDE. HAVE TO REACH IN AND OPEN FROM INSIDE. THIS COULD BE A HAZARD DUE TO THAT I CANNOT GET TO MY CHILDREN QUICKLY. *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE RETRACTABLE REAR SEAT BECAME MORE DIFFICULT TO OPERATE SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE NEW. FINALLY IT BECAME STUCK TO THE EXTENT THAT IT COULD NOT BE MOVED IN EITHER DIRECTION. THIS OCCURRED ONE MONTH AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED.
THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START FINALLY IT STARTED IN THE DRIVE POSITION , HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING TO THE DEALER THAT THE VEHICLE SHIFTS ON ITS OWN FROM DRIVE TO ANOTHER POSITION. IN ADDITION ALL THE LIGHTS REMAIN ON IN THE DASH BOARD. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN OUT THE REPAIR SHOP ON 8/25/14 AND THIS PROBLEM WAS RECTIFIED. THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON NOW SINCE 8/25/14. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT NO REMEDY WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. IT WOULD ONLY OPEN FROM INSIDE THE CAR. WHEN THIS ISSUE IS GOOGLED I REALIZE THIS IS A COMMON KIA PROBLEM. *TR
AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT OR ALL DAY, WHEN BACKING UP THEN GOING FORWARD THE CAR ACTS LIKE THE ABS IS STICKING AND WONT MOVE FORWARD, PULLS TO THE LEFT. YOU HAVE PUT CAR IN PARK, TURN IT OFF, THEN TURN BACK ON FOR IT TO STOP. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 KIA SORENTO ON THE EXPRESSWAY DOING 75 MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. I THOUGHT SOMEONE'S ENGINE EXPLODED, BUT THEN I SAW GLASS FLYING BEHIND MY CAR AND HEARD A LOUD WINDY WHOOSHING ABOVE ME. I REALIZED IT WAS MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF. THANKFULLY MY SUNSHADE WAS CLOSED AND NO GLASS FELL ON ME. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BAD NEIGHBORHOOD AND DIDN'T FEEL SAFE PULLING OVER SO I DROVE TO THE FIRST PLACE I DID FEEL SAFE. BY THE TIME I GOT THERE, THE WHOLE GLASS TOP ABOVE THE DRIVERS SECTION WAS COMPLETELY GONE. THERE WAS NO APPARENT REASON FOR THE IMPLOSION. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS IN THE VICINITY, WEATHER WAS CLEAR, AND IT IS A NEW FREEWAY AND I WAS NOT GOING UNDER A BRIDGE. I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE GLASS OR ENGINEERING OF THE SUNROOF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000. UPDATED 10/02/14*LJ UPDATED 3/2/2015 *JS
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AT APPROXIMATELY 70000 MILES, RESET AND REMAINED OFF FOR A WHILE. BACK ON AT 72000 MILES. DIAGNOSED BY DEALER THAT IT IS RELATED TO FAULTY PASSENGER SIDE OCS SENSOR MAT, WITH REPAIR COST OF APPROX. $2000. CONTACTED KIA AND THEY CHECKED WITH DISTRICT MANAGER TO SEE IF THEY WOULD DO ANYTHING REGARDING THE ISSUE (FIX, DISCOUNT, ETC.) AND WAS INFORMED THEY WOULD NOT. UNFORTUNATELY OUT OF STANDARD WARRANTY DUE TO MILEAGE...WHICH TO ME A SAFETY SENSOR BECOMING FAULTY WOULD HAVE NOTHIN TO DO WITH MILEAGE AND IS NOT REALLY THAT OLD. EXHUBERANT COST FOR MOST PEOPLE TO REPAIR, WHICH WE CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE FINANCES TO DO. IN RESEARCHING, AFTER THE FACT, APPEARS KIA HAS HAD A LONG LINE OF ISSUES WITH AIRBAG AND OCS SENSORS. MAKES ME WONDER IF ISSUES STILL EXIST IN THIS MODEL, BUT MOST ARE STILL BEING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR IF WE HAPPENED TO JUST GET A "LEMON". (NOT ONLY ISSUE WE HAVE HAD WITH CAR, BUT BEING RELATED TO SAFETY WANTED TO SHARE.) *TR
FRONT DRIVER EXTERIOR HANDLE WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR - CAN ONLY BE OPENED FROM INSIDE . *TR
TL- THE CONTACT 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A TIRE DEALER TO REPLACE FOUR TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CORE BETWEEN THE VALVE STEMS AND THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS WERE CORRODED AND COULD CAUSE FUTURE FAILURES. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SENSOR WAS ATTACHED TO THE VALVE STEM AND THE ENTIRE PIECE HAD BROKEN OFF OF THE VEHICLE WHEN AIR WAS INSERTED INTO THE TIRE DUE TO CORROSION. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE "LOW TIRE PRESSURE" SENSOR TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE TIRES WERE LOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND THE DEALER MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO LOCATE A PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.GB
AFTER A SMALL NUMBER OF DAYS OF A MINOR RATTLING FROM THE ENGINE, AS I PULLED AWAY AT AN INTERSECTION THERE WAS A BANG FROM THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER AND THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF BANGING FROM THE ENGINE. MANAGED TO CRAWL TO A NEARBY GAS STATION. THE CAR STALLED ON THE FORECOURT. MANAGED TO RESTART IT, ONLY TO HEAR THE TERRIBLE BANGING AGAIN AND SEE THAT THE ENGINE STILL HAD NO POWER. HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL KIA DEALER THE FOLLOWING MORNING. AT THE TIME OF WRITING THIS, KIA ARE REFUSING TO FIX THE CAR UNDER WARRANTY, DESPITE IT STILL BEING COVERED AND THERE ONLY BEING 44,000 MILES ON IT. THEY ARE CLAIMING THE REASON FOR THE INCIDENT IS A 'CLOGGED OIL FILTER', ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE YET TO PROPERLY EXAMINE THE ENGINE AND OFFICIALLY DIAGNOSE THE FAULT. THE SYMPTOMS OF MY INCIDENT ARE SUSPICIOUSLY SIMILAR TO OTHER ISSUES DATING BACK TO 2005 WHERE THE BOLT PIN ON THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY SHEARS. *TR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT.IT IN STARTED AUG OF 2014. FRIST ONE HEADLIGHT THAN A MONTH LATER THE OTHER SIDE WOULD GO OUT. CHANGING THE BULB SEAMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN THE LEFT HEADLIGHT WOULD TURN OFF AND THAN BACK ON WHILE DRIVING. THEN LEFT LIGHT QUIT WORKING ALL TOGETHER SIX MONTHS AGO. RIGHT SIDE BULB BURNS OUT EVERY TWO MONTH. TODAY NO LIGHTS AND WHEN I WENT TO CHANGE THE BULB ON THE RIGHT SIDE, THE PIGTAIL/ LIGHT SOCKET WAS HALF MELTED. THIS SEAMS TO BE A ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. THERE IS FIVE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE SAFERCAR.GOV SITE ABOUT THIS. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THIER LIGHT AT NIGHT AND ARE HURT.
VEHICLE STARTED BY LOSING POWER ON TAKE-OFF. LATER VIOLENT JERKING/SHIFTING OVER 30 MPH. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO BOTH DEALER AND PERSONAL MECHANIC. CRANK AND CAM SENSORS WERE REPLACED. ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED. THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES SHUTS OFF UPON TAKE-OFF. SOMETIMES IT IMMEDIATELY STARTS AGAIN, OTHER TIMES I HAVE TO PUT INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTART. THIS ISSUE IS ALSO NOT RESOLVED. POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE WAS REMOVED TO RESET THE COMPUTER. THIS TEMPORARILY FIXED THE PROBLEMS FOR A DAY. WHEN PLACED INTO "SPORTS MODE", THE VEHICLE SHIFTS WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT (SECOND GEAR AND ABOVE). NOTE: UNSCRUPULOUS DEALER MECHANIC VOIDED ENGINE WARRANTY FOR "SLUDGE" IN ENGINE AND INCORRECTLY REMOVED A SENSOR, RESULTING IN BREAKAGE OF SAID SENSOR. PERSONAL MECHANIC SAW NORMAL TRACES OF "SLUDGE" IN ENGINE. VEHICLE IS ACTING SIMILAR TO PREVIOUS RECALLS OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE/MODEL, BUT DOES NOT FALL INTO VIN/DATE RANGES FOR RECALL REPAIR.. *TR
I FOUND THAT THE REAR LEFT TIRE WAS SERIOUSLY WORN ON THE INSIDE TO THE POINT THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE NEVER BEFORE SEEN A REAR TIRE WEAR ON THE INSIDE EDGE WHILE THE REST OF THE TIRE WAS STILL GOOD AT 32000 MILES. WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE WEAR? *TR
WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 5-10 MPH, I WAS BROADSIDED ON DRIVERS SIDE BY ANOTHER SUV TRAVELING AT 35MPH. NONE OF MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED THE SIDE HEAD RAIL BAG TO DEPLOY, PARTICULARLY THE ONE RIGHT NEXT TO THE DRIVERS HEAD. IT DID NOT. ACCORDING TO THE IIHS, THIS AIR BAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED IN THIS TYPE OF SIDE-IMPACT CRASH. I HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE LOCAL HOSPITAL BY RESCUE SQUAD AND AM SUFFERING WITH SEVERE BACK AND NECK PAIN AS WELL AS SEVERE HEADACHES FROM THIS COLLISION...UPDATED 10/08/14 *BF *TR UPDATED 3/24/2015 *JS
CPSC: I1470147A. 2011 KIA SORENTO. CONSUMER STATED THE CAR HAS TURNED OFF ON THE HIGHWAY ON THREE OCCASIONS. ALSO STATED ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BATTERY AND ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS SHUT DOWN. *LN THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
PASSENGER HEADLIGHT WORKS SOMETIMES ONLY. WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT, THE BULB STARTED WORKING AGAIN. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE CONNECTOR FOR THE BULB HAD DISINTEGRATED. THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. LESS THAN 6 MONTHS LATER THE CONNECTOR AND THE WIRING IN THE NEW PART HAD TOO DISINTEGRATED. LEADING UP TO THE DISINTEGRATION ON THE REPLACEMENT, I WOULD SMELL AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD IT WAS GROUNDING OUT, BUT THEY COULD NOT TELL FROM WHERE. MY CONCERNS ARE 1. THE AREA WHERE WIRING IS FAILING MAY CAUSE A FIRE. 2. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHT/S MAY GO OUT MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ONCOMING DRIVERS TO SEE MY VEHICLE. SOME OF THE AREAS WHERE I DRIVE ARE NOT WELL LIT AND/OR REFLECTORS ARE USED AS GUIDANCE ALONG THE ROAD. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT TO PARK AND ROLLED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
DASH INDICATORS FOR TRACTION SLIP, DOWNHILL ASSIST AND ABS CAME ON AND HAVE STAYED ON. BRAKING IS FINE AND PUSHING THE ASSIST AND SLIP BUTTONS HAVE NO CHANGE ON BRAKING. TWO WEEKS LATER THE HIGH BEAM AND TURN SIGNAL DASH LIGHTS WILL NOT ILLUMINATE, BUT THE AFOREMENTIONED LIGHTS ARE STILL ON. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE CHANGED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND AFOREMENTIONED LIGHTS ARE STILL ON AND OTHERS STILL NOT WORKING. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE JUST STOPPED WORKING ONE DAY. IT CAN BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE, BUT NOT THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD IN RELATION TO IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND I CANNOT GET MYSELF FREE, NO ONE FROM THE OUTSIDE CAN GET ME OUT EITHER. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST REPORT OF A DOOR HANDLE NOT WORKING ON THIS BRAND OF SUV MODEL.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A CONSTANT PRESENCE OF AN OIL LEAK AND THE OIL WAS NOT PROPERLY CYCLING THROUGH THE OIL PUMP. DARCARS KIA OF FREDERICK (5826 URBANA PIKE, FREDERICK, MD 21704, 1-877-997-6197) SERVICED THE VEHICLE PER MANUFACTURER CAMPAIGN NUMBER: SC106; HOWEVER, IT FAILED TO PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS LEFT WITHOUT A VEHICLE DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH MY 2011 SORENTO NOT STARTING AT ALL OR ONLY STARTING WITH THE FOB IN THE CHARGER SINCE DECEMBER 2013. MORE RECENTLY I HAVE HAD ISSUES WHERE THE VEHICLE WON'T LOCK OR IT LOCKS AND THEN WON'T UNLOCK UNTIL I AM ABLE TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH MANUALLY AND THEN THE FOB WILL UNLOCK THE OTHER DOORS. YESTERDAY I WAS AT A GAS STATION AND MY FUEL DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN (NO CLICKING SOUND OR ANYTHING) UNTIL I STARTED THE CAR WITH THE KEY FOB IN THE CHARGER AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE FUEL DOOR WHILE IT WAS RUNNING. WHEN THE VEHICLE WON'T START WITH THE FOB IN THE CHARGER, I HAVE EITHER HAD TO USE THE "UNOFFICIAL" START METHOD WITH MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND HOLDING IN THE START BUTTON FOR 15 SECONDS OR IF THAT DOESN'T WORK I HAVE HAD TO JUMP START THE BATTERY. MY LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CAR BATTERY BUT I REALLY DON'T FEEL THAT IS THE ISSUE BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME DAYS THAT THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN AT ALL. I AM SCARED THAT AT SOME POINT I WILL BE LOCKED OUT OF THE VEHICLE WITH MY CHILDREN INSIDE OR THAT I WILL BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. AT THIS POINT I HAVE ONLY ONE WORKING FOB - I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THAT ONE OF THE FOBS WASN'T WORKING BUT THEY TOLD ME (AFTER WORKING ON ALL OF THE RECALLS FOR 7+ HOURS) THAT THE FOB WAS FINE. SO, I DON'T EVEN HAVE A BACKUP KEY. *TR

AFTER SHUTTING OFF AND RESTARTING, NO ISSUES, CONTACTED DEALERSHIP TOOK IN FOR SERVICE 5/9/14, THEY SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM AS IT WAS NOT DOING IT AT THAT TIME. ON 7/25/14 CEL LIGHT FLASHING & RUNNING ROUGH AGAIN, CALLED DEALERSHIP AND TOOK IN 8/9/14, AGAIN THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE AND NO CODES SHOWING UP OR IN HISTORY STATED THEY HAVE A CALL INTO KIA MOTORS AND OPENED A TECH LINE CASE HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM. 9/18/14 CEL LIGHT FLASHING AND RUNNING ROUGH, I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP THAT I ALWAYS HAVE USED SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE BUT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSE TO MY WORKPLACE. I REFUSED TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF BECAUSE WHEN YOU DO, IT RESETS EVERYTHING AND IT CANNOT BE DIAGNOSED. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, LEFT IT RUNNING TILL THEY COULD PUT THE OBD SCANNER ON IT TO CODE IT. I RECEIVED CALL FROM MANAGER, HE STATED THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO GET CODES FROM IT AND THAT 2 COILS WERE MISFIRING. THEY SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, IT WOULD NOT START. THEY LEFT IT SIT AN HOUR AND IT STARTED UP AND THEY TRIED TO CODE IT AGAIN AND NOTHING SHOWED IN THE CODES AT ALL, NOT EVEN CODE HISTORY. THEY REPLACED TWO COILS, THEN ON 9/25/14 THE CEL LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AGAIN AND RUNNING ROUGH. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THAT JUST CHANGED THE COILS, HE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TO SAY. ASKED ME WHERE I PURCHASE MY GAS FROM AND THAT HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TODAY BECAUSE THEY CLOSE AT 4:30 AND IT WAS AFTER 4:00 THEN. WHEN I SHUT THE CAR OFF, IT WOULD NOT START. DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE NO LONGER FUNCTIONS, UNABLE TO OPEN DRIVER DOOR FROM INSIDE VEHICLE AT ALL. DEALER "REPAIRED" FREE OF CHARGE AT 47,638 MILES (UNDER 60,00 MILE WARRANTY) BUT DID NOT REPLACE PARTS. HANDLE DID WORK FOR A WHILE BUT AGAIN BECAME NON-FUNCTIONAL (AT APPROX 75,000 MILES, OUT OF WARRANTY), MECHANIC INSPECTED AND SHOWED SEVERAL BROKEN PLASTIC COMPONENTS. IT IS NOT REPAIRABLE, MUST BE REPLACED.
WHEN THE SORENTO REACHES A SPEED ABOVE 60 IT HESITATES BEFORE ABRUPTLY JUMPING INTO THE NEXT GEAR, CAUSING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE AND ALL PASSENGERS TO JERK FORWARD. TPMS SENSOR WAS REPLACED. AROUND A WEEK LATER WHILE MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TPMS SENSOR RETAINING CAP FELL OFF DUE TO CORRODED THREADS AND THE SENSOR FELL INTO THE TIRE CAUSING A HIGH SPEED DEFLATION. GENERAL COMPLAINT-THE MATERIAL ENCLOSING VEHICLE FRONT LIGHTING BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO ALLOW SUFFICIENT LIGHT TO PASS THROUGH. ALL ATTEMPTS TO CLEAN THE SURFACE FAILED, AS IT APPEARED (TO A LAYMAN) THAT THE MATERIAL WAS CHANGING CHEMICALLY. DEALER REPLACEMENT WAS EXCESSIVELY EXPENSIVE. I PURCHASED AND INSTALLED AN AFTER-MARKET REPLACEMENT-TOO SOON TO EVALUATE OVER TIME, BUT INITIAL RESULTS SHOW EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE WITH NO APPARENT CHANGE.

THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY JERKS OR CHANGES GEARS WHEN REDUCING SPEED. WHEN TAKING THE FOOT SLOWLY OFF THE GAS PEDAL THE VEHICLE JUMPS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ALMOST STOP. 1) THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED OUT SIX (6) TIMES DURING MY OWNERSHIP. THIS HAS OCCURRED AFTER STOPPING. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE FOUR OF THE SIX TIMES BY STOPPING, PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND PRESSING THE "START" IGNITION BUTTON. TWO OF THE SIX TIMES THE GEAR WAS LOCKED INTO DRIVE AND NEUTRAL ONLY. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO NOT SHUT OFF. BOTH TIMES 911 WAS CALLED FOR CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL ASSISTANCE WAS CONTACTED AS I WAS STRANDED ON THE FREEWAY. THIS OCCURRED ON 2/20/14 AND 6/03/14. ON 5/17/14 THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO THE KIA CAR PROS CARSON FACILITY FOR THE 60,000 MILE MAINTENANCE AND PASSED WITH NO ISSUES. 2) THE BACKUP CAMERA FLUTTERS INTERMITTENTLY (ABOUT 10-15 TIMES A MONTH) MOSTLY IN THE MORNING ON START UP AND SOMETIMES AT NIGHT. KIA OF CERRITOS HAD REPLACED THE NAVIGATION/RADIO MODULE 3 TIMES, BUT OFFICIAL RECORDS SHOW IT WAS REPLACED ONLY TWICE. THIS HAS NOT RECTIFIED THE ISSUE AS IT STILL PERSISTS. 3) THE RADIO INCONSISTENTLY (ABOUT 2-5 TIMES A MONTH) DOES NOT START FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE UP. I AM NOT CONFIDENT THAT THE ISSUES ARE RESOLVED AND I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND ALL WHO RIDE IN THE VEHICLE. THE KIA CAR PROS CARSON FACILITY REPLACED THE DRIVE ASSIST PART AND CLEANED THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS FOR THE FIRST INCIDENT IN FEB 2014. I WAS TOLD THIS WOULD RECTIFY THE ISSUE. ON 6/03/14, I WAS TOLD A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO THE ECU (ELECTRICAL CONTROL UNIT) WAS PERFORMED, BUT THEY DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED. I WANT THE FACILITY TO RETAIN MY VEHICLE AND PERFORM A FULL DIAGNOSTIC ON THE VEHICLE UNTIL THEY CAN GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL NOT STALL AND LOCK UP ON ME AGAIN. 2/12/14 WAS THE DATE THAT I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE HATED EVERY MINUTE OF IT SINCE. IT KEPT SOUNDING LIKE STUFF WAS FALLING OFF THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT, CURTAIN AND SEAT CUSHING AIR BAG DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO BECOME STARTLED AND CRASHED INTO A MEDIAN. THE MANUFACTURER INVESTIGATED THE AIR BAG FAILURE AND CONCLUDED THAT THE CONTACT HAD SHIFTED INTO TWO-WHEEL DRIVE AND CAUSED THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A NECK INJURY AND THE PASSENGER SUFFERED A CHIPPED TOOTH AS A RESULT OF THE ERRONEOUS AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND REVIEWED THE EVENT DATA RECORDER, WHICH INDICATED A LOW BATTERY BUT DID NOT SPECIFICALLY INDICATE AN AIR BAG FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,447.
WHEN SWITCHING FROM PARK TO DRIVE A LOUD POP WILL BE HEARD FROM THE VEHICLE USUALLY OCCURRING (LOUDEST) DURING COLD MOIST DAYS. IN THE SAME CONDITIONS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THE CAR BEGINS TO STUTTER AND VIBRATE WHEN SWITCHING GEARS (THIS IS USUALLY FELT INITIALLY DRIVING OFF OR DURING HARD BRAKES AT LIGHTS). CAR AT ONE POINT STALLED IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. WHEN GOING TO DEALER THEY SAID SOFTWARE UPDATES SHOULD HAVE FIXED IT, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM SIMPLY PERSISTS (THOUGH THE CAR DID NOT STALL THUS FAR). *TR
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION ON ALL 2011 KIA SORENTO CARS. THE SUSPENSION IS VERY BAD ON ROUGH ROADS. THE VIBRATION AND NOISE IN THE CABIN IS NOT NORMAL. IT IS VERY HARD ON YOUR BACK AND SHOULD BE MODIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT AND APPLIED THE BRAKES BEFORE ENTERING TRAFFIC. I FOUND THE BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD TO PUSH WITH VERY LIMITED BRAKING POWER. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED OR A TRAGIC ACCIDENT COULD HAVE TAKEN PLACE. I DROVE CAREFULLY AND WAS ABLE TO GO VERY SLOW AND PULLED INTO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY LIFE AND DEATH ISSUE SHOULD FAILURE OCCUR. I AM AWAITING FINAL DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY FEEL THE MOST LIKELY PART IS A BRAKE BOOSTER CHECK VALVE OR THE BRAKE BOOSTER. *TR
