WHILE FINDING A PARKING SPOT MY VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SUDDENLY QUIT. AFTER RESTARTING IT, I FOUND A PARKING SPOT AND JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN PARK, IT STALLED AGAIN. APON LEAVING TO GO HOME, A 10 MILE TRIP,EACH TIME I CAME TO A STOP THE VEHICLE STALLED ON ME AN ADDITIONAL 5 TIMES. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST INTANCE OF THIS PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE IN THE SHOP PREVIOUSLY FOUR OTHER TIMES. EACH TIME SAYING THAT IT WAS DUE TO A LOOSE AIR INTAKE VALVE. I ACTUALLY ALMOST HAVE PANIC ATTACKS NOW WHEN COMING TO A STOP ON A BUSY INTERSECTION FOR FEAR MY VEHICLE IS GOING TO STALL AND I AM GOING TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I WILL BE TAKING THE VEHICLE INTO KIA, YET AGAIN, TOMORROW TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED.
VEHICLE STARTED TO SHIFT IMPROPERLY AND THE ENGINE "REVVED" ITSELF WHILE IN PARK WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON. A WEEK OR SO LATER, CAR LOST POWER WHILE TRYING TO PARK WITHOUT WARNING. TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO FOUND NOTHING WRONG USING THE COMPUTER. CAR CONTINUED TO DO THIS FOR OVER A MONTH, WITH NO PATTERN, TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO ONCE AGAIN GAVE THE VEHICLE BACK AND SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. I FIND THIS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM SINCE IT TURNS OFF WHILE STOPPING AND OR TURNING. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 KIA SPORTAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER RECALL # 05V120000 (SUSPENSION:AUTOMATIC STABILITY CONTROL (ASC)). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RIGHT REAR BRAKES ARE NOW SQUEALING AND THAT THE BRAKES SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSPECTED WHEN THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ROTOR HAS GLAZED OVER. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 33,000.
IT STARTED IN JANUARY 2007 WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN THE CAR JUST DIED WITHOUT ANY NOTICE. ALTHOUGH YOU CAN PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND RE-START IT, IT CAN TURN RIGHT AROUND AS YOU MAKE YOUR TURN AND DIE AGAIN. AS COMING TO A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN IT WILL DIE WITHOUT EVEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. JUST SLOWING DOWN IT WILL DIE. THE RPM'S WILL REV UP WHEN YOU LET UP OFF THE GAS OR SOMETIMES WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKES THE RPM'S WILL REV UP. WHEN SITTING AT AN IDLE THE RPM'S WILL DROP WAY DOWN TO 500 AND BOUNCE UP AND DOWN. HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES AND THEY SAY " IT DIDN'T DIE ON US" OR " WE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG". IT IS AT THE SHOP RIGHT NOW JUNE 2008. THIS IS AN OFTEN OCCURRENCE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE HORN ON THE VEHICLE WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN ONGOING SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN MAY OF 2005. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH, A PASSERBY ALERTED THE CONTACT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER, THE DRIVER SIDE TAILLIGHT WAS REMOVED, AND THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THE POWER CONVERTER SHORTED, CAUSING THE FIRE. THIS WAS A HIDDEN HITCH POWER CONVERTER, PART NUMBER 31828.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY STALLED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER EACH INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. *AK
I WAS INVOLVED IN 2 LOW IMPACT CRASHES WITH THIS KIA SPORTAGE 2005 MODEL. ONE WAS A REAR END COLLISION AT 20 MPH AND THE OTHER I WAS HIT FROM THE SIDE IN A PARKING LOT. BOTH TIMES THE OTHER DRIVER DROVE AWAY WITHOUT DAMAGE. I SUFFERED 3500 DOLLARS WORTH OF DAMAGE FROM THE FIRST INCIDENT AND 7500 FROM THE SECOND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE BOTH TIMES. AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. I AM VERY CONCERNED AS ARE OTHER INDIVIDUALS WHO WITNESSED THE INCIDENTS THAT IF THE SPEED HAD BEEN ANY GREATER THE PERSONAL INJURY WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE SUSTAIN SO MUCH DAMAGE FROM WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FENDER BENDERS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL OF EIGHT TIMES. EACH TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN RESET HOWEVER, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUES TO ILLUMINATE.
I TOOK MY 2005 KIA SPORTAGE EX INTO THE DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY TO BE CHECKED DUE TO A SQUEAKING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR END. THE PARTS CLERK ORDERED A REAR PASSENGER SPINDLE. ITS BEEN FOUR MONTHS AND THE PART IS SUPPOSEDLY ON BACK ORDER, THEY HAVE DENIED IT BEING A RECALL AND ADVISED ME THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE A SUSPICION THAT IT IS A RECALL DUE TO IT TAKING SO LONG TO GET THE PART AND THE FACT THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO GIVE ME A DATE AS TO WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. I'M CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AS WELL AS OTHER MOTORISTS. *NM
KIA MOTORS USA, 2005 KIA SPORTAGE LX V6 4WD- [XXX] PURCHASED NEW IN MAY 05. VEHICLE MILES 61 AT PURCHASE. ON 10/27/05 TURNED ON WINDSHIELD WIPERS. THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM MADE AN UNUSUAL NOISE. WIPERARM WAS FLAPPING AND LOOKS LIKE IT ROTATED 360 DEGREES. PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM ALSO MADE A 7 INCH SEMI CIRCLE SCRATCH IN THE CORNER OF THE HOOD. PASSENGER SIDE WIPERARM METAL IS TWISTED IN A SPIRAL SHAPE. VEHICLE CHECKED BY BILL DORATY KIA IN MEDINA,OHIO ON 10/28/05 INVOICE#[XXX]. DEALER STATES LOOKS LIKE WIPER ARM WAS TWISTED BY OTHER MEANS. THEY WILL NOT WARRANTY THE DAMAGE. KIA MOTORS CONSUMER AFFAIRS ANALYST CENTRAL REGION,WITHOUT INSPECTING THE VEHICLE SIDES WITH THE DEALERS OPINION. THEY ARE WRONG! THE DAMAGE SHOWS IT WAS A MECHANICAL PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE PROPERLY INVESTIGATED BEFORE THIS OCCURS TO SOMEONE OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY DURING A STORM. GAS TANK WAS OVERFILLED WHILE TRAVELING OUT-OF-TOWN. THIS RESULTED IN HAVING TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND HAVING THE GAS TANK DROPPED, AND REPLACING THE EVAPORATION CANISTER ASSEMBLY. THE COST TO ME WAS $284 BECAUSE IT WAS A 'SELF-INDUCED' PROBLEM. THE MANUALS SAY NOTHING ABOUT OVERFILLING CAUSING PART DAMAGE THAT THE CUSTOMER IS LIABLE FOR. REPAIRS TOOK FIVE DAYS DUE TO THE SERVICE DEALER LACKING THE PROPER DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT AND ADAPTERS FOR THE SPORTAGE. CURRENTLY WORKING WITH KIA OF AMERICA TO TRY TO GET REIMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSE. *JB
DT: CONTACT STATED EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRRORS AND THE INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR WERE DARK THAT THE CONSUMER HAS DIFFICULTY SEEING WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT OR ON CLOUDY DAYS. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THEY DID NOT BUILD THE VEHICLE AND PROVIDED THE CONSUMER WITH THE KIA MANUFACTURER'S NUMBER. THEY TOLD THE CONSUMER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP IT WAS A PREVIOUSLY OWNED VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER COULD NOT MAKE THE MANUFACTURER UNDERSTAND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP. *AK
FRONT SUSPENSION PROBLEM; A LOT OF NOISE, KIA DEALER HAS REPLACED A LOT OF PART OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION, IS PRACTICALLY NEW. BUT THEY HAVE NOT FOUND THE PROBLEM YET, SINCE I BOUGHT IT ON MAY, 2005. THIS CAUSING A LOT OF BIG VIBRATIONS WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY MAKE IT UNSAFE BECAUSE INSTABILITY. *JB
DT: THE CALLER HAD A RECALL BUT NO REPAIRS COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. IT HAS BEEN TWO WEEKS, AND HE CAN'T GET ANYTHING DONE. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER TOLD HIM HE HAS TO WAIT UNTIL THEY GET THE PARTS IN. CALLER HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO DEALER TWICE. THE CALLED DID NOT KNOW RECALL NUMBER. *AK
RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FOR FUEL LEAK ON 2005 KIA SPORTAGE. LETTER SAID REPAIR TAKES TWO HOURS. TOOK VEHICLE IN AND AFTER 5 HOURS, WAS TOLD THEY NEED TO ORDER PARTS AND KEEP VEHICLE. 2 DAYS LATER WAS GIVEN A RENTAL CAR AND TOLD IT WOULD BE A WEEK TO GET THE PARTS. 9 DAYS AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE IN, WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD BE 4 WEEKS TO GET PARTS BUT THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVABLE AND TO COME GET IT. CALLED MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. UNACCEPTABLE THAT THE 2 HOUR REPAIR SHOUDL TAKE OVER 5 WEEKS!
CONTINOUS FAILURES IN THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (EPS) THAT CAUSES PERIODIC BRAKING DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. FAILURE CAUSES CAR TO PULL IN THE DIRECTION OF BRAKING WHEEL, OFTEN CAUSING THE CAR TO ENTER OTHER LANES OF TRAFFIC. AT THIS POINT, ONLY THE ELECTRONIC SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED, WHICH HAS NOT CORRECTED PROBLEM.
WHEN GAS TANK IS FILLED, GAS LEAKS OUT OF PIPE LEADING TO GAS TANK. WHICH IN MY OPINION COULD CAUSE A FIRE AND/OR EXPLOSION. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *JB
