Rain water leaks into passenger compartment through the top of the windshield.
Windshield leak leads to unknown amount of water egress before the leak is visible inside the vehicle. This leads to electrical damage and loss of vital controls in vehicle.
My vehicle's windshield has been replaced by Land Rover due to a NHTSA recall in 2018/2019. The windshield was replaced by a Land Rover dealer in San Diego as soon as I was informed of the safety failure. However, I recently began to get water inside the vehicle and the same issue is happening again, even though Land Rover replaced the windshield at its San Diego dealership. I originally thought the sunroof was leaking but upon taking it to a mechanic who specializes in sunroof repairs, we both determined that the windshield has failed again, creating a safety hazard. According to the mechanic, this is most likely because the dealer did not install a new windshield with primer for the urethane caulking that holds the windshield in place, creating both a safety problem as well as a problem with water entering the cabin.
The contact owns a 2017 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that during a rainstorm water entered the vehicle. The rainwater entered the vehicle from the upper passenger’s side windshield. The water then traveled down onto the dashboard. The contact stated that the failure was present while driving and while parked during rainy weather. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,000.
Front windshield has a leak for the second time. The first time it was replaced a year ago, and now the leak is in the top of the windshield frame causing water to leak onto the dash and also on to infotainment screen from the rear view mirror above. Loss and failure of electrical components is a real consternation in regard to this issue. Apparently this is an ongoing manufacturer production failure, with many complaints from owners of this vehicle across the internet. The service mgr. at the dealership informed me that I need to pay $650 to have the windshield replaced. I feel that this issue is the responsibility of Land Rover and has to be resolved with a recall. Please let me know if there is any help available in this regard. Thank you Jack Fromberg
Water ingress on the passenger side from the Windshield, could result in visibility issues and electronics failure as already noted in the bulletin - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10152016-9999.pdf I was in a car wash when suddenly I noticed the water ingress and Land Rover of Bethesda is not going to take care of the issue even after the Bulletin detail was shared with them
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT WINDSHIELD HAD COMPROMISED SEALS, ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE, AFFECTING THE FRONT WIRING HARNESS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER LAND ROVER COLORADO SPRINGS (565 AUTOMOTIVE DR, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905, (720) 343-8222) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE SEAL TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE AND OFFERED THE CONTACT MONEY FOR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000.

2017 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY HSE, MAJOR WATER LEAK FROM THE UPPER CORNER, PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. THE LEAK HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS OR SNOWS (BOTH STANDING STILL OR IN MOTION). THE WATER SO FAR HAS TOUCHED THE A-PILLAR AIRBAG, THE SAFETY CAMERAS ON THE WINDSHIELD AND OTHER ELECTRICAL WIRING. ADDITIONALLY THE WATER FINDS ITS WAY TO THE CARPETING ON THE FLOOR. IN ONE OCCASION TODAY (1/8/2020) WATER SPILLED INTO MY HEAD FROM RIGHT ABOVE THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR WHILE I WAS TAKING AN EXIT RAMP. THIS GOT ME DISTRACTED FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS, ALMOST RUNNING OFF THE ROAD. LAND ROVER IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, HOWEVER THEY WAIT FOR THE CUSTOMER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM BEFORE THEY DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT SEEMS THAT THE OWNERS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE AS EARLY AS LATE 2017 (BASED ON INTERNET BLOGS). IT ALSO SEEMS THAT THERE IS A FLAW WITH THE EARLY PRODUCTION MODELS, REQUIRING LAND ROVER TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE, HOWEVER AFTER OVER 50 DAYS OF REPORTING THE ISSUE, LAND ROVER HAS FAILED TO PROVIDE THE REPLACEMENT PART. AS A CONSUMER I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, MAINLY BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL SHORTAGE WITH SAFETY COMPONENTS, IN ADDITION TO DISTRACTING THE DRIVER DUE TO UNEXPECTED WATER DROP WHILE OPERATING THE CAR.
The contact owns a 2017 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that rainwater was entering the vehicle and the computer system was not responding due to the water intrusion. There were no warning lights illuminated. The occupants of the vehicle were also getting wet. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the windshield and sealant needed to be replaced. The windshield was replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IT RAINED, THE FRONT PASSENGER'S AND DRIVER'S SIDE FILLED UP WITH WATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LAND ROVER ALEXANDRIA (2712 DUKE ST, ALEXANDRIA, VA 22314, (877) 832-9362) WHERE THE SUN ROOF AND WINDSHIELD WERE INSPECTED. THE TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT THE DRAIN HOSE WAS NOT DRAINING CORRECTLY AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPAIRED INCORRECTLY. THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE SUN ROOF. THE VEHICLE THEN WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHERE THE SUN ROOF WAS INSPECTED AND REPAIRED. THE REMEDY TO THE FAILURE WAS NOT DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
