2003 FREELANDER BY LAND ROVER CUT OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING. I HAD TO BE TOWED. THE FUEL PUMP AND GASKET WERE BAD. MY MILEAGE IS 47,863 MILES AND THE CAR IS DRIVEN LOCALLY LESS THAN 5 MILES PER DAY. *TR
2003 FREELANDER HAD SUDDEN FUEL PUMP FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHERE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR 1 1/2 DAYS CAR STARTS AND THEN IMMEDIATELY DIES. ONCE MANAGED TO START IT WILL IDLE BUT AS SOON AS ANY PRESSURE IS PUT ON THE GAS PEDAL THE ENGINE FALTERS. WILL CONTACT THE DEALER ON MONDAY TO REASSESS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 LAND ROVER FREELANDER ON THE HIGHWAY ON NOVEMBER 24,2008, WHEN THE ENGINE DIED ON ME. IT WAS SNOWING AND WET ON THE HIGHWAY AND DARK. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAITED FOR AAA. I HAD TO BE TOWED 19 MILES TO MY HOME. I WAS TOLD THE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT ON THE CAR. THERE WAS NO WARNING AND IT FAILED IN A HIGHWAY WHERE THE AVERAGE SPEED IS 70 MPH. *TR
MY VEHICLE WAS GIVING OFF SERVICE ENGINE FAULTS AND THEN WENT BACK TO NORMAL, NOTHING FELT WRONG ABOUT MY LANDROVER. A MONTH OR SO LATER I PARKED MY CAR, WENT INTO THE STORE, CAME BACK OUT AND MY LR WOULDN'T START. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO IS REPLACING THE PUMP. MY DAUGHTER OWNS A 2003 LAND ROVER FREELANDER HSE. IT DIDN'T START ONE MORNING AND SHE NOTICED FLUID ON THE GROUND. THE FLUID WAS GASOLINE. I HAD HER CRANK THE ENGINE FOR A SECOND WHILE I HAD THE HOOD OPEN AND THERE WAS GASOLINE SQUIRTING OUT OF THE FUEL LINE JUST TO THE RIGHT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HE WAS ABLE TO PUT THE LINE BACK TOGETHER AND IT CLICKED TWICE BUT SINCE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, I WAS WONDERING IF THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER INSTANCES OF THE FUEL LINE COMING APART. CLEARLY IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE THE ENGINE WAS HOT AND SHE WAS DRIVING, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. *TR
(1) 2003 LAND ROVER FREELANDER WAS RUNNING ROUGH SUDDENLY. IT THEN STALLED WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT RESTART. AFTER 3 HOURS OF WAITING FOR FLATBED TRUCK FROM AAA ROAD SERVICE, VEHICLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO LOCAL LAND ROVER DEALER. (2) A FAILED FUEL PUMP WAS DISCOVERED. (3) IT WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEREFORE VERY COSTLY FOR ORIGINAL OWNER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT APPROX 55 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING. MANAGED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. HAD MY 2003 FREELANDER TOWED TO THE LOCAL GARAGE WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE WARRANTY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT (48 MONTH / 50,000 MILE). *TR

2000 LANDROVER FREELANDER - TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 57K MILES. TRANSMISSION COST ME 1150 DOLLARS TO FIX. \ THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AFTER ANOTHER 100 MILES. THAT COST ME 1050 DOLLARS. THIS CAR WAS JUNK. THE CAR HAS SINCE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH TOTALED IT. BUT I CAN'T PROVE THE CAR WAS AT FAULT, BUT I'LL BET IT WAS. *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH DOWN THE STREET, THE ENGINE STALLED AND OPERATED AT A REDUCED SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ACCELERATOR WAS FIRMLY DEPRESSED AND A SMELL OF GASOLINE FILLED THE VEHICLE, YET THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO OPERATE AT A REDUCED SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FUEL LINE CLIPS FRACTURED RESULTING IN FUEL RAIL LEAKAGE. THE FRACTURED FUEL RAIL AND CLIPS WERE REPLACED WHICH STOPPED THE FUEL LEAKAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 9/20/2006 - THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. *NM
WHILE DRIVING THE 2003 LAND ROVER FREELANDER ON THE FREEWAY AND GETTING READY TO EXIT WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY TURNED OFF BY ITSELF, BUT THE WHEELS WERE STILL MOVING. IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY BECAUSE I STILL HAD THE RADIO ON AND THE LIGHTS WERE WORKING. IT FELT LIKE IT HAD RUN OUT OF GAS, BUT I HAD A FULL TANK! THANK GOD I WAS MAKING AN EXIT AT THE TIME, AND IT THE EXIT WAS SLOPING DOWNHILL AND WITH MOMENTUM I MADE IT TO THE FIRST LIGHT. BUT THE WAR WOULD NOT TURN ON. THE LIGHTS WOULD TURN ON, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT. I PUT MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON AND A POLICE CAR PUSHED THE CAR TO THE NEAREST SAFE BLOCK TO PARK MY CAR. THE POLICE VEHICLE DAMAGED THE CAR FROM THE BACK BUMPER BECAUSE OF THE PUSH, BUT AT THAT TIME I WAS JUST HAPPY I WAS OUT OF AN INTERSECTION. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO GET IT CHECKED OUT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. IT ENDED UP COSTING ME $500. LAND ROVER DID NOT WANT TO REIMBURSE ME THE $ AT LEAST FOR THE PART BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT I DID NOT USE A CERTIFIED LAND ROVER DEALER.*AK
