NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2016 Lexus LS. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2016 Lexus LS. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle crashed into the rear end of a commercial truck. During the crash, both the front driver-side and passenger-side air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained a fractured lumbar vertebra and the front passenger sustained chest and upper torso injuries. The passenger was transported to the nearby hospital. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was driven back to the home. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was contacted regarding the incident. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 122,000. The contact stated that the part of the seatbelt that goes over the shoulders failed to engage during the time of the accident which caused injury.
Electronic Power Steering System Failure. Currently at Dealership for repair. Loss of steering while driving could have caused serious harm. Fortunately, the failure occurred at startup time in driveway at home. Dealer has confirmed the Electronic Power Steering System failure. Currently only Dealer has inspected failed component. I had a Maintenance Service Required alert prior to Steering Failure. Dealer performed 50K maintenance, replaced battery, alignment, and VA State inspection on 01/04/2023. After driving car back home, 12 miles later, the Electronic Power Steering failed.
On march 17, 2022, I purchased 4-Michelin CrossClimate2 car tires (245/45R19/XL 102V) for my Lexus LS460. From the attached photos you can see how soft the rubber is as tested with a Durometer Meter reading of 54 compared to 64.5 Meter on the replaced Michelin Radial MXV.4 tire. Never had a single problem with the MXV.4 tires. Those tires came with the Lexus and had a hard rubber ridge just above the rim which protects these tires from damage. I don't remember ever running into a curb with the CrossClimate2 tires that caused the damage to the tire. The scuffing of the rim wheel is due to tall curbs, narrow tires, narrow drive ways and the driver of course. The CrossClimate2 tire was on the front driver side and usually never is a problem with contact with the curb, these rims have been rotated many times and show curb scuffing. The 4-Michelin CrossClimate2 rubber is very very soft and should have a protective edge to the tire and harder rubber like the Michelin Radial MXV.4 tires, there is no protection as is the case with the Radial X. I spoke to Michelin help desk twice and only received a directive, talk to your dealer. I purchased these tires from Amazon Business and had Walmart install the tires. I checked the Durometer on two of the CrossClimate2 tires still on the auto and the Durometer reading is not consistent on the rubber hardness, telling me there is a problem in manufacturing and quality control. The 4-Michelin CrossClimate2 tires are defective in manufacture and design and I would not recommend them 100%. As soon as I saw the slit in the tire I went to a Tire Dealer who said that the tire could rapture, so I removed the CrossClimate2 tire and replaced it with the spare, Michelin Radial MXV.4 on August 26, 2022.
I OWN THIS CAR IN CANADA ONTARIO SINCE NOVEMBER2018. CARFAX HISTORY REPORT SHOWS AN EXACT SPECIFICATION AND VIN ON A CAR REGISTERED IN BEE CAVE TEXAS. THE CAR IN THE USA STARTED SHOWING IN MARCH 2019. I CALLED USA POLICE AND THE OFFICER FOUND THE CAR CARRYING MY CANADIAN CAR VIN. THIS IS A STOLEN CAR HAD MY VIN PUT ON IT. NOBODY IS TAKING ACTION AS THIS USA CAR WAS NOT REPORTED STOLEN. THE OFFICER SAID THAT HE DID NOT CHECK THE OTHER PARTS IF THEY CARRY THE SAME VIN. I SPOKE TO USA LEXUS AND STEPHANIE SAID WE HAVE NOT TO MANY INFORMATION ABOUT THIS VIN BECAUSE IT IS A CANADIAN CAR. SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? STOLEN CAR WITH MY CAR VIN!!!!!FOR THE DAFETY OF YOUR CITIZEN THIS IS A CRIME TO STEAL VEHICLE IDENTITY FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRY. I AM EVEN SENDING YOU THE SHOP THE US CLONED CAR WENT TO FOR SERVICES.
WHEN DRIVING MY 2016 LS460 THAT ONLY HAS 48K MILES, GOING ON TO 2ND OR 3RD GEAR IT LAGS, I BELIEVE IT'S THE FUEL PUMP. IT CAN CAUSE A ACCIDENT..
I PURCHASED LEXUS LS460 AWD 2016 IN 01/2017. FEW MONTHS AGO THE NOISE LEVEL IN THE CABIN BECAME TOO LOUD EVEN TO HEAR THE RADIO. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LEXUS DEALER WHO SOLD THE CAR TO ME FOR CHECK UP. I ASKED THEM TO USE A DECBEL METER TO READ THE NOISE LEVEL. INSTEAD THEY SENT A TECHNICIAN TO DRIVE THE CAR AND HE SAID THAT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM TIRES. IF THAT WAS THE CASE I ASKED THEM TO CHANGE ALL THE TIRES (I AGREED TO PAY). BUT THEY REFUSED TO CHANGE FOR SOME FLIMSY REASON TO HELP ME TO SAVE MONEY. I FIGURED OUT THAT TIRES WERE NOT THE CAUSE AND SOMETHING ELSE COULD BE THE REA SON THEY DID NOT WANT TO DISCLOSE OR EXPOSE. IN THE MEANTIME THE CAR STARTED STALLING WHILE DRIVING 2 MONTHS AGO AND I IGNORED IT THINGKING MY NEW SHOES WERE CAUSING IT. THEN DAY BEOFE YESTERDAY WHILE I WAS CLIMBING A STEEP SLOPE IN CAPITOL HEIGHTS THE CAR STALLED AND I WAS TO FORCED TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR WITH ALL MY STRENGTH TO PUSH IT FORWARD AND IT SLOWLY CLIMBED THE SLOPE. I WAS CONCERNED TO THE EXTENT I FEARED THAT IT COULD SLIDE BACKWARDS CAUSING MAJOR ACCIDENT. I COMPLAINRD TO LEXUS AND THEY SENT ME TO ANOTHER DEALER. AGAIN NO DECIBEL METER WAS USED ANDTHE MECHANIC SAW EVERYTHING NORMAL AND THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS REVEALED NOTHING. NOW I UNDERSTAND THAT THE ENGINE IN LS460 HAS STALLING PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLY UNDER RECALL FOR FIXING THE VALVE IN THE ENGINE. THE CAR HAS ONLY 43K MILES AND ASKED LEXUS TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE. BUT LEXUS REFUSED WITHOUT ANY REASONABLE EXPLANATION. THE VEFICLE WAS ON A CITY STREET IN CAPITOL HEIGHTS WHILW TAKING A RIGHT TURN TO A STEEP SLOPE STREET.WHEN IT STALLED.
