2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. CONSUMER WRITES TO EXPRESS DISCONTENT WITH QUALITY OF SERVICE AT FORD COMPANY *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK AND THERE WAS A RATTLE SOUND COMING FROM BEHIND THE DASH. *JB
THE FRONT LCA BALL JOINT DRIES UP IN THE SOCKET AND MAKE THE CAR SQUEAK, AND WOBBLE OVER THE ROAD. THE AUTO SHOW STATED IT WAS A POOR DESIGN SINCE YOU ARE UNABLE TO ADD LUBRICATION INTO THE BALL JOINT. THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER TILL MAY, SO I HAVE TO DRIVE MY CAR UNSAFELY UNTIL ONE IS AVAILABLE. *LN
AFTER HAVING MULTIPLE FLAT TIRES - WHICH I INCORRECTLY ATTRIBUTED TO BAD LUCK - I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WAS NOT MY TIRES AT ALL, BUT WAS INSTEAD, THE CHROME PEELING ON THE INNER RIM OF THE WHEELS, WHICH NOT ONLY CREATED AN AIR LEAK FROM THE SEAL NOT HOLDING, BUT ALSO DAMAGED THE VERY-EXPENSIVE-TO-REPLACE TIRES. I LEARNED THIS WHEN I TRIED TO PUT 4 NEW TIRES ON THE CAR, THINKING MAYBE ALL THE FLATS WERE DUE TO THE BRAND OF TIRES, AND COSTCO SHOWED ME THE PEELING CHROME PROBLEM AND TOLD ME NOT TO WASTE MY MONEY ON NEW TIRES UNTIL THE WHEELS WERE REPLACED. WAS INFORMED THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THE CHROME PLATING IS NOT A PROBLEM FORD WILL FIX AT THEIR EXPENSE AND THE COST FOR PUTTING NEW NON-CHROME WHEELS ON THE CAR WOULD ALL BE MINE. APPARENTLY SUDDEN FLATS DUE TO DEFECTIVE CHROME IS NOT REGARDED AS A SAFETY ISSUE BY FORD. *TR
2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. 22K MILES. ALL 4 RIMS CORRODE CAUSING TIRES TO LOOSE AIR. TIRE SHOP BROKE DOWN TIRES AND CLEANED RIMS. APPLIED SEALANT AROUND LIP AND REMOUNTED TIRES. TIRE SHOP OWNER INDICATED HE HAS CLEANED AND RESEALED A NUMBER OF 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR ALUMINUM WHEELS. AT 35K MILES ALL 4 TIRES WERE REPLACED AT LINCOLN DEALER. TWO WEEKS AFTER NEW TIRES INSTALLED FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE CAME OFF RIM DUE TO LOW AIR PRESSURE. I COMPLAINED TO DEALER THAT THE TIRES ARE LEAKING AIR. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM WITH RIMS AND REPLACED TIRE FREE OF CHARGE. DEALER ALSO INDICATED ALL FOUR RIMS WERE CLEANED AND RESEALED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN ENERGY TIRES, SIZE P225/50/R17. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES (ORIGINAL) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO DRY ROTTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO CONFIRMED. THE TIRES HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,320. UPDATED 03/16/11 *BF UPDATED 11/16/11
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING, BUT PARKED, THE A/C SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. AIR CONTINUED TO BLOW, BUT IT WAS HOT INSTEAD OF COOL. DIAGNOSTIC REPORT SAYS THE ACET SENSOR FAILED. REPAIR WAS DECLINED DUE TO COST ($550). NOW, EVEN WITHOUT ANY CLIMATE CONTROLS ENGAGED, THE PANEL GETS VERY HOT WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING. IF THE SEAT A/C IS ENGAGED, IT WILL WORK UNTIL THE PANEL GETS HOT, THEN IT WON'T WORK ANYMORE. IF THE FAILED ACET SENSOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OVERHEATING BEHIND THE CLIMATE CONTROL PANEL, IT MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND NOT JUST A COMFORT ISSUE. *TR
ISSUE WITH WEAK, INADEQUATE WELDS ON A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. THIS ISSUE IS RELATED TO FORD TSB 06-24-07, AND INVOLVED THE SUBFRAME OF THE VEHICLE. SINCE THE SUBFRAME NOT ONLY HOLD THE ENGINE AND SUPPORTING PARTS, THE AREA IN QUESTION IS ALSO INTEGRAL TO THE FRONT SUSPENSION/STEERING. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD IS A WELD BREAKS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND POSES A SERIOUS INJURY RISK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. THE CONTACT STATED ALL FOUR CHROME RIMS FLAKED AND THE TIRE PRESSURE DECREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE LOSING PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR: TRANSMISSION BEGAN FAILING AT 35,000 MILES. EXTREMELY HARSH SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR. NO ACCELERATION WHEN DRIVING UPHILL CAUSES SAFETY HAZARD AS SPEED CANNOT BE MAINTAINED. EXTREMELY HARSH SHIFTING AND SOMETIMES UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS AT ALL. FOUND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN PINPOINTING THE PROBLEM TO A MAIN VALVE BODY DEFECT. FORD/LINCOLN DEALER IS REQUESTING A TOTAL TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WHICH COSTS OVER $4,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE CONSTANTLY BECOMING FLAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE RIMS WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT NEEDED TO GO TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN UP SHIFTING, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO HIGHER GEARS AND WOULD BEGIN JERKING ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26,500.
THE ALUMINUM WHEELS ON MY 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR ARE PEELING AT THE TIRE CONTACT POINT CAUSING A DETERIORATION OF THE SEAL CAPABILITY OF THE WHEEL. THE TIRES EVENTUALLY WON'T SEAL PROPERLY AND LOSE AIR PRESSURE UNTIL THE TIRE IS EITHER REINFLATED, OR GOES FLAT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, SEVERAL TIMES BUT WOULD ONLY CLEAN THE WHEELS, AND RESEAL AND REINFLATE THE TIRES. THIS TREATMENT LASTED APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS UNTIL THE TIRES BEGAN TO LOSE AIR AGAIN. WE RECEIVED NO SATISFACTION FROM THE LINCOLN DEALER REGARDING ANY PERMANENT CORRECTIVE ACTION FOR THIS PROBLEM. WE WERE TOLD WE'D HAVE TO REPLACE THE ALUMINUM WHEELS, BUT WERE GIVEN NO GUARANTEE THE NEW WHEELS WOULD PERFORM ANY BETTER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS WARPED CAUSING A SEPARATION FROM THE CONSOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON AN ICY ROAD, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FISHTAIL AND DECELERATED TO 35 MPH. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, STOPPED AT A REST STOP, AND CALLED A MECHANIC. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POSSIBLY BE DUE TO THE TRACTION CONTROL, WHICH WAS RELATED TO THE ABS. HE DROVE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND THEN IN DRIVE WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN DRIVING NORMALLY AFTER THE PARKING BRAKE WAS RELEASED. THE FAILURE HAS RECURRED AND THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000. UPDATED 02-23-09 *BF UPDATED 02/25/09. *JB
IN NOVEMBER 2008 I PURCHASED A 2006 LINCOLN ZYPHER WITH 28000 MILES. AT THIS TIME THE PASSENGER BACK INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE WAS BROKEN. THE DEALER ARGUED WITH ME BUT FIXED THE ITEM. ONE YEAR LATER IN THE FALL OF 2009, THE DRIVERS SIDE BACK SEAT HANDLE ALSO BROKE AND WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. PASSENGERS HAD TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND PULL THE HANDLE FROM THE OUTSIDE TO OPEN THE DOOR. IF THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING YOU ARE TRAPPED. FEB 2012, THE DRIVERS SIDE HANDLE ALSO BROKE, LAST NIGHT MARCH 30 2012 THE PASSENGER HANDLE BROKE. I JUST SPENT TWO HOURS ONLINE AND FOUND NEARLY 1400 OTHER FORD/LINCOLN OWNERS CLAIMING THE SAME MALFUNCTION OF THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BECOMING DISABLED. IF THE VEHICLE HAS NO POWER YOU ARE UNABLE TO EXIT IF THE WINDOW IS UP. THIS SEEMS TO BE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. FORD/LINCOLN NEEDS TO REPAIR THE BROKEN HANDLES AND CHANGE THE DESIGN OR INCREASE THE QUALITY. I GUESS SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO DIE FIRST BEFORE THE COMPANY TAKES RESPONSIBLITY FOR THEIR CHEAP UNSAFE DESIGN AND MECHANICAL FAILURE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. UPON INSPECTING THE WHEELS OF THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ALUMINUM COATING ON THE WHEELS STARTED TO PEEL OFF. AS A RESULT OF THE ALUMINUM PEELING OFF OF THE WHEELS, THE TIRES WOULD NOT HOLD ADEQUATE AIR PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
WHEELS NEED REPLACING, WILL NOT HOLD AN AIR SEAL THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE DEFECT ,NOT SO ,I BOUGHT A 2 HP. AIR COMPRESSOR TO WEEP TIRES INFLATED. MECHANIC SAID NEW RIMS ARE NEED BEFORE NEW TIRES,ARE LINCLON RIMS BEEN UPGRADED//NEED TO REPLACE!!!
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR WHEELS ON HIS VEHICLE WERE DEFECTIVE. THE WHEELS CAUSE THE TIRES TO FLATTEN AND WILL NOT HOLD AIR. THE CONTACT MUST PLACE AIR IN THE TIRES EACH WEEK. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW WHEELS, BUT AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDOWS AND SUNROOF OPEN WITHOUT THE VEHICLE BEING STARTED SIMPLY BY PUSHING THE REMOTE IGNITION KEY. SHE STATED THAT IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE WINDOWS AND SUNROOF COULD BE OPENED WITHOUT HER KNOWLEDGE, ALLOWING SOMEONE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE MARCH OF 2008. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE. FORD STATED THAT THERE WAS A GLITCH IN THE REMOTE IGNITION KEY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,348 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000. UPDATED 06/25/08 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THERE ARE 4 SYMBOL BUTTONS ON THE IGNITION KEY THAT DO NOT REQUIRE A LOT OF FORCE TO ACTIVATE. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACED THE TIRES ON THIS CAR 3 TIMES BECAUSE THEY ARE ALWAYS LOOSING AIR AND WEARING DOWN FAST.THE LAST TIME I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE RIMS THATS BEEN CAUSING IT. I CANNOT TAKE THE CAR ON LONG TRIPS BECAUSE I HAVE TO PUT AIR IN THEM EVERYDAY BEFORE I LEAVE THE HOUSE, NICE CAR CRAPPY MAKER THIS CAR HAS 62TM ON IT. I AM THE ONLY DRIVER AND OWNER OF IT. ONE MICHELIN ENERGY S8 MXVA P225/50 R17 TIRE WAS LOSING AIR ON MY 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. THE WAS VISIBLE SIDE WALL SEPARATION ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE AND ALSO, 180 DEGREES ON THE OUTSIDE. DEALER/MICHELIN CLAIMED IS WAS RESULT OF HITTING A POT HOLE. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. DEFECT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. HAD 20,000 MILES AT TIME OF COMPLAINT. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT OTHER INDIVIDUALS HAD SAME ISSUES WITH MICHELIN TIRES.... *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A PARKED VEHICLE WAS STRUCK WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 MPH. THE PARKED VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE OF TRAFFIC CHANGING A FLAT TIRE AND UPON INITIAL IMPACT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE WERE WEARING SEAT BELTS, BUT MINOR INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED, DUE TO EXTENSIVE BODY DAMAGE. THE POLICE RESPONDED TO THE SCENE AND TOOK A REPORT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 09/15/06. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE ALUMINUM SURFACE OF THE WHEELS BEGAN TO RUB OFF. AS A RESULT, THE SURFACE OF THE WHEELS BECAME IRREGULAR AND ALL FOUR TIRES DEFLATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
TAKATA RECALL.. RECEIVED LETTER OF INTENT TO REPLACE AIRBAG LAST YEAR. HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED FOR REPAIR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V904000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH IN THE SNOW THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED BUT WAS SLOW TO RESPOND. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE LANDMARK LINCOLN LOCATED AT (5000 S BROADWAY, ENGLEWOOD, CO 80113, (303)761-1560, WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
PURCHASED LINC ZEPHER IN JAN 2006, AUTO HAS BEEN SERVICED 4 OR 5 TIMES TO REPAIR/REPLACE THE COOLED/HEATED SETS. THE UNIT NEVER RAN FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES AND WHEN DOWN FROM THERE TO 15 MIN THEN 5 MIN THEN NOT AT ALL. DEALER REPLACED ALL PARTS RELATING TO THIS UNIT BUT SYSTEM WILL FUNCTION ON FOR 30 MINUTES NOW AT FULL CAPACITY THEN FOR THE NEXT 30 MINUTES RUN AT A DIMINISHED CAPACITY THEN AFTER 60 MINUTES IN TOTAL DOES NOT FUNCTION. SERVICE REP. STATES THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION OF THIS EQUIPMENT IT OVERHEATS AND WILL NOT WORK. EVEN THOUGH THE ZEPHER SALES INFORMATION STATES ON PAGE 10. - "THE 3 COOL SETTINGS JOIN 3 HEAT SETTINGS TO KEEP YOU COMFORTABLE ALL DAY - AND ALL NIGHT"
TAKATA RECALL: I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR TAKATA AND FORD TO FIX THIS SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS AIRBAG PROBLEM FOR WELL OVER A YEAR. EVERY TIME I CONTACT THE LINCOLN DEALERSHIP I GET THE SAME ANSWER..."THEY HAVEN'T SHIPPED US THE PARTS YET." ARE THEY WAITING FOR THE CAR TO BECOME OBSOLETE OR DO THEY FIGURE THAT IT'S CHEAPER TO PAY FOR A 'LOSS'? NOW I'VE HEARD THAT TAKATA SETTLED WITH SOME CAR COMPANIES BUT NOT WITH FORD! THIS SITUATION HAS TO BE RECTIFIED.
BRAND NEW 2006 LINCOLN ZEPHYR. ELECTRIC DOORS DO NOT LOCK UNTIL A SPEED OF 15-18 MPH IS REACHED. FORD'S MANUAL STATES: "DOORS LOCK AT 12 MPH". DEALER COULD NOT FIX IT. CONTACTED FORD. THEY CONSIDER IT A "NON ISSUE" AND CLOSED THE FILE. I FIND THIS A SAFETY HAZARD SINCE IT TAKES A LONG TIME IN BUSY COMMUTE TRAFFIC TO GAIN THIS SPEED. *NM
