There are 5 owner-reported engine complaints for the 2014 Mazda Mazda6in NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
The incident occurred while operating a diligently maintained 2014 Mazda 6 Touring, overseen by dealership service. While driving, the check engine light illuminated, prompting an immediate halt. Upon inspection, a concerning observation was made: the coolant level was significantly low. Despite no apparent leaks, further examination revealed a crack in the cylinder head, allowing coolant to mix with the oil. This issue, specific to Mazda's 2.5L Skyactiv engine, has been identified as a manufacturing defect, independent of overheating. Notably, this problem has been echoed by multiple users, confirming the presence of defective cylinder heads in these vehicles. This flaw necessitates an expensive repair, absolving the vehicle owner of any responsibility. Despite the widespread occurrence of this issue, Mazda has declined to issue a recall for vehicles equipped with these faulty cylinder blocks. Online forums and discussions have highlighted numerous instances of identical cracks in the same location, affirming the prevalence of this problem with Mazda's 2.5L engines. This poses a serious concern for vehicle safety and warrants attention from both Mazda and vehicle owners. Additional information regarding this issue can be found through the provided links. 2014 MAZDA 6 IGNITION SWITCH ISSUE. KEYLESS IGNITION SWITCH - CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF. EVEN IF SHIFT IS IN PARK THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF BUT THE IGNITION STAYS ON. FOUND ON CARS.COM BUT MAZDA HAS NOT RECALLED.
VEHICLE STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED, 65 MPH. LIGHTS ALL COME ON ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. HAS BEEN DOING THIS MORE OFTEN NOW. MENTIONED IT TO BERGE MAZDA IN AZ WHEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE.
DRIVING THROUGH RAIN IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE CAR STALLED AND WILL NOT RESTART. ENGINE SEIZE PER DEALER. WE UNDERSTAND OTHER MAZDA'S HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THIS ISSUE. WE REQUESTED THE CAR TO BE CHECKED FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL WITHOUT SUCCESS BECAUSE OUR VIN DOES NOT FALL IN THE RECALL. WE OFFERED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THEM TO TEST IT WHICH THEY DECLINED TO DO.
WHILE ACCELERATING ON 2 OCCASIONS IN PAST 2 MONTHS, THE ENGINE WILL LOSE POWER WITHOUT WARNING. IT IS STILL RUNNING BUT WILL NOT GO FASTER THAN ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR. THE FIRST TIME OCCURED WHILE PULLING OUT ON A ROAD AND ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION AND THE SECOND TIME WAS ON A BUSY INTERSTATE WHILE PASSING A VEHICLE AND HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE LIGHT FLASHES AND THE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. IT WILL WORK NORMALLY AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE AND IT CLEARS THE LIGHTS. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A MAZDA DEALERSHIP THE FIRST TIME AND THEY SAID IT WAS A CRACKED SPARK PLUG AND REPLACED IT. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM JUST HAPPENED AGAIN.. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AS THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN!
