WE HAVE 2004 MAZDA MPV WHICH WE BOUGHT NEW. WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, WE HAD TO HAVE COILS REPLACED. WE THOUGHT IT WAS ODD THAT WE WOULD BE HAVING TO REPLACE COILS ON SUCH A NEW VEHICLE. AFTER INVESTIGATION, WE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE YEAR MPV WE HAVE. APPARENTLY THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WHICH ALLOWS MOISTURE TO GET TO THE COILS, CAUSING THEM TO SHORT OUT. WE MENTIONED THIS TO FITZGERALD MAZDA IN ANNAPOLIS, MD WHERE WE WERE HAVING IT SERVICED. THEY ADMITTED THIS WAS A PROBLEM BUT BASICALLY THOUGHT WE SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY..EVEN THOUGH IT WAS PROBABLY GOING TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM LONG AFTER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT. SINCE THE WARRANTY RAN OUT, WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE COILS REPLACED 2 MORE TIMES AT OUR OWN EXPENSE AND ARE WAITING TO HAVE YET ANOTHER COIL REPLACED AS I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT. EACH TIME WE HAVE TO HAVE A COILED REPLACED, IT IS VERY COSTLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE MAKES THEM VERY DIFFICULT TO GET TO. ONCE WE HAD TO HAVE IT DONE WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING ON VACATION IN FLORIDA..THIS WAS DONE AT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP IN GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA. THEN ANOTHER TIME WE HAD A COIL REPLACED BY A MECHANIC IN OWINGS, MARYLAND. THAT MECHANIC DID EXTENSIVE RESEARCH FOR US AND CAME TO THE SAME CONCLUSION..THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MOISTURE GETTING TO THE COILS AND WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN THROUGHOUT THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. WE ARE NOW DELAYING ANOTHER VACATION..PAYING OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE YET ANOTHER COIL REPLACED. WE WANT MAZDA TO STAND MY THEIR PRODUCT. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT THEIR EXPENSE. WE HAVE SPENT CLOSE TO $2,000.00 NOW. THE WORST PART IS, IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ANOTHER COIL GOES OUT. PLEASE HELP! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA MPV. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN HESITATING AS IF IT WERE ATTEMPTING TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE ELECTRICAL COIL TO THE CYLINDER. THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN A YEAR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC PLACED INSULATING MATERIALS AROUND THE COIL TO PREVENT MOISTURE FROM ENTERING THE COIL. THE MECHANIC ADVISED WHEN MOISTURE WOULD ENTER THE ELECTRICAL COILS; IT WOULD CAUSE A SHORTAGE CONTRIBUTING TO THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF, THE COOLING FAN WOULD CONTINUE OPERATING. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
LATELY WHILE DRIVING MY CAR WILL SUDDENLY JUMP FORWARD. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE SO WHEN GOING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. ALSO, THE ENGINE IS BECOMING MORE HOT, EVEN AFTER ONLY RUNNING FOR A FEW MINUTES AND A STRANGE SMELL IS EMITTING FROM THE ENGINE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP HERE AND THEY HAVE SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE SITUATIONS. THEY CLAIM, I AM PUSHING TOO HARD ON THE GAS, WHICH I DON'T DO. THEY ALSO SAY TO MAKE SURE I HAVE ENOUGH COOLANT IN THE ENGINE WHICH I ALWAYS DO. I AM AFRAID THE ENGINE WILL CATCH FIRE OR SOMETHING WITH THE WAY IT IS RUNNING. UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS MY MAIN CAR TO GET AROUND WITH FOR THE CHILDREN. THE CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. I AM TIRED OF TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NOT GETTING AN ANSWER. *TR
PERSISTENT TICKING SOUND FROM ENGINE, WHICH HAS BECOME LOUDER WITH PASSING OF TIME. TSB RE TICKING SOUND HAS BEEN PERFORMED BY SHOWCASE MAZDA, AND ON FOLLOW-UP VISIT THEY ADVISED SITUATION IS NORMAL, THE TICKING SOUND NOTWITHSTANDING. A RESPECTED INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SERVICE, COMBS AUTOMOTIVE, ADVISED THE ENGINE ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT BE MAKING THE TICKING SOUND WITH ONLY 30K MILES ON IT. PLEASE NOTE THAT BELOW I SHOW INCIDENT DATE AS THIS MONTH, BUT IT HAS BECOME MORE PRONOUNCE OVER PAST FEW WEEKS. *JB
ON MY MAZDA MPV IN TEMPERATURES BELOW 40 DEGREES THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS WHEN SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR. THIS CAUSES LOSS OF POWER AND A WHIPLASH ACTION WHEN THE TRANSMISSION RE-ENGAGES. IN HIGH TRAFFIC SITUATIONS THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. *NM
OVER THE PAST 3 MONTHS, PASSENGER-SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR ON A 2004 MPV, INTERMITTENTLY WOULD: 1) NOT CLOSE. DOOR WILL ATTEMPT TO CLOSE, BUT BOUNCES OPEN AT THE END. DOOR POWER HAS TO BE TURNED OFF AT THE DRIVERS CONTROL, SO THAT THE DOOR CAN BE MANUALLY CLOSED. 2) DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. SEVERAL OCCASION, THE DOOR WOULD APPEAR TO BE STUCK AND CANNOT BE OPEN WITH ANY OF THE CONTROLS AND NOT MANUALLY EITHER. DOOR BUTTON WILL "BEEP" BUT DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. DOOR USUALLY "RECOVERS" AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR A SHORT TRIP. 3) DOOR WILL MAKE MOTOR WHINNING SOUND...LIKE IT'S TRYING TO OPEN WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, AND ONCE IT DID OPEN ON ITS OWN WHILE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT LOW SPEED. REPORTED TO MAZDA OF ROSWELL DEALER, THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE PROBLEM AND CANNOT OFFER MUCH HELP. *NM
2004 MAZDA MPV - NORTH PARK MAZDA IS SAN ANTONIO HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIX A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VAN IN 5 TIMES IN JULY. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE NOISE ON THE FIRST FEW ATTEMPTS. I FINALLY HAD TO TAKE THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR A RIDE IN IT. THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD FIXED IT THE LAST 2 TIMES I TOOK IT IN BUT APPARENTLY DID NOT ACTUALLY LOCATE THE PROBLEM. I
2004 MAZDA MPV. ENGINE WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING WHILE CRUISING AT 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. THE CAR HAD ONLY 3000 MILES ON IT AT THAT TIME. GOT TOWED BY MAZDA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO THE CLOSEST DEALER, WHO HAD NO TIME TO WORK ON IT FOR MORE THAN A WEEK (!). THEREFORE THE CAR WAS TOWED AT MAZDA'S EXPENSE TO THE DEALERSHIP I HAD BOUGHT IT FROM. THERE THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AND THEREFORE CONCLUDED THAT THE ECU MUST BE FAULTY. A NEW ECU WAS INSTALLED AND THE PROBLEM HAS SO FAR NOT RECURRED. THE CAR NOW HAS ABOUT 14000 MILES ON IT. *JB
PASSENGER SLIDING VAN DOOR;WHEN IT RAINS, ALLOWS WATER TO ENTER TRACK SPACE OF VEHICLE; OVER TIME MAY CAUSE RUST;ALREADY TOOK MPV IN ONCE, MAZDA DID NOT FIX CORRECTLY, MADE THE LEAK WORSE AND NOW THE WINDOW HAS PROBLEMS ROLLING UP AND DOWN; TAKING VEHICLE IN AGAIN TO MAZDA FOR A 2ND TIME???
WATER GETS IN THE DOOR PANEL EVERY TIME IT RAINS OR WE WASH THE CAR. THREE DIFFERENT MAZDA DEALERS TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM FIVE TIMES, UNSUCCESSFULLY. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THE DOOR IS ELECTRIC AND IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS PROBLEM. ALSO MOLD COULD DEVELOP IN THERE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE MAZDA CORPORATION. THEY INSPECTED THE CAR. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED BY MAZDA. THEY PROMISED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY IGNORE MY PHONE CALLS AND LETTERS. WHAT SHOULD I DO? THANKS. *JB
2004 MAZDA MPV ENGINE COMPLETELY AND SUDDENLY DIES WHEN DRIVING - USUALLY WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AS THE ENGINE IS DECELERATING. DROVE CAR TO SHOULDER, PLACED IN NEUTRAL TO RESTART. APPEARS TO BE THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE (MADZA FORUM SITES REPORT NUMEROUS SIMILAR EVENTS). *TR
I HAD A SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT IN MY 2004 MAZDA MPV VAN WITH FRONT END SUSTAINING DAMAGE WITH NO DEPLOYMENT OF FRONT OR SIDE AIRBAGS. I SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT HEAD AND FACIAL TRAUMA. *JB
REAR LIFTGATE DOOR GAS STRUT MOUNTING STUD SNAPPED OFF, THERE IS A RECALL IN CANADA FOR THIS ISSUE FOR MODEL YEARS 2000-2004. WHEN I CONTACTED MAZDA ABOUT THIS ISSUE, THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE CANADIAN RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE ISSUE IS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED AND IS FROM 2005 HTTP://WWW.MPVCLUB.COM/RECALLS.PHP?ID=19&PRINT=1 *TR

SIDEWALL OF THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE SPLIT IN TWO PLACES AFTER THE CONSUMER RAN OVER A CURB AT 5 MPH, WHICH CAUSED AN IMMEDIATE BLOWOUT. *BF ONE MONTH LATER THE CONSUMER RUBBED THE LEFT FRONT TIRE AGAINST A CURB WHILE PULLING THROUGH A NARROW DRIVEWAY AND THE LEFT FRONT TIRE SIDEWALL CAME APART IN THE SAME WAY AS THE FIRST TIRE DID. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, HOWEVER THE DEALER STATED IT WAS A ROAD HAZARD AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT AS A COURTESY THEY REPLACED THE TIRE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT THE 17 INCH WHEELS BE REPLACED WITH 16 INCH WHEELS. *JB
(1) DRIVING ALONG IN TOWN, APROX 5 MPH 2) TIRE WENT FLAT, SEEMS AS IF SOMEONE STUCK A KNIFE THROUGH IT, BUT IT WAS FINE UPON LEAVING MY HOME (ONLY HAS 1,866 MILES)/ (3) NOT COVERED BY WARRENTY, HAVE TO PURCHASE NEW TIRE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN, AND PULLED OVER. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION BLEW OUT DUE TO A WORN SHAFT SOLENOID. *AK
DURING INSPECTION DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT ALL FOUR TIRES HAD TREAD SEPARATION. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED. DUNLOP SP4000, 215/60R16. *AK *NM
2004 MAZDA MPV WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A TRANSMISSION SHIFT SHOCK PROBLEM AND THE WARRANTY IS GETTING READY TO EXPIRE. WHEN ACCELERATING VEHICLE AND PASSENGER GET JOLTED FORWARD. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE LAST TIME THE PROBLEM HAPPENED, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT ILLUMINATED.*JB
2004 MAZDA MPV PURCHASED ON FEB. 28, 2004. ON MAR. 27, 2004, ENGINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING LIGHTS. FORTUNATELY, CAR WAS IDLE WHEN ENGINE FAILED. ONLY HAD 1,100 MILES ON VEHICLE. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN COOPERATIVE IN DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. INITIAL ASSESSMENT BY THE DEALER TECH AT STAR MAZDA IN GLENDALE, CA WAS THAT CONNECTING ROD FAILED AND ENGINE SEIZED. DEALER STATED THAT MAZDA'S OWN TECH PEOPLE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE ENGINE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. IT HAS ALREADY BEEN A WEEK. REQUESTED VEHICLE TO BE TOWED TO 1000 OAKS MAZDA, WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. MAZDA STILL NOT GIVEN APPROVAL FOR THAT TOWING. STILL WAITING *JB
2004 MAZDA MPV WITH ONLY 400 MILES ON IT IS STARTING TO DEVELOP A SULFUR SMELL COMING FROM TAIL PIPE AREA. THIS HAS BEEN A ISSUE IN THE PAST WITH THE MPV. IS THERE A FIX. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED DEALER AS OF YET. *JB
