THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF (ENGINE STOPPED) WHEN COASTING DOWNHILL TOWARD CONSTRUCTION BARRELS. WAS ABLE TO AVOID BARRELS BY TURNING INTO UNOCCUPIED TURN LANE. POWER STEERING HAD GONE OUT. POWER BRAKES HAD GONE OUT. HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR THREE WEEKS. OCCURRED ONCE. NOTICED THAT A RECALL (CAMPAIGN ID # 04V175000) THAT REQUIRED REPROGRAMMING OF THE PCM MODULE, AND THE SYMPTOMS OF WHICH EXACTLY DESCRIBED THIS PROBLEM, EXISTED FOR THIS VEHICLE MODEL YEAR. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER TO CHECK THE CAR THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE SO I DECIDED TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST UNCOVERED THAT THE PCM MODULE DID NEED THE REPROGRAMMING WHICH THE DEALER DID, BUT THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE CAR NEEDED ADDITIONAL PARTS TO COMPLETELY RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WHICH I HAD TO PAY FOR. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL THE RANGE OF MY VEHICLE ID DOES FALL WITHIN THE RANGE OF VIN NUMBERS AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL AND THE ASSEMBLY DATE(12/00) ALSO FALLS WITHIN THE DATE RANGE FOR THIS RECALL. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE DEALER DOES NOT SEE THIS AS A VEHICLE THAT SHOULD HAVE AN 'OPEN RECALL' AND WHY THE ENTIRE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM WAS NOT TAKEN CARE OF TO REMEDY THIS. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF THE DRIVER HAS NO CONTROL AND THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. *JB
INSIDE DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE BROKE UNEXPECTEDLY AND UNDER NORMAL USE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS 2001 TRIBUTE. HAD TO REPAIR AT MY EXPENSE...OBVIOUSLY A COMMON PROBLEM AND UNACCEPTABLE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE SHEERED OFF. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE DOOR THE PLASTIC HANDLE BROKE. THE ONLY WAY OF EXITING THE VEHICLE FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE IS TO ROLL DOWN THE POWER WINDOW AND OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DEALER WAS ALERTED AND THE DOOR HANDLE WAS REPLACED.
CAN NOT OPEN DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. ASSEMBLY INSIDE DOOR IS BROKEN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD BE $290.00 TO REPAIR. THEY ALSO TOOK THE BROKEN ASSEMBLY WHICH LEFT ME WITHOUT THE DEFECTIVE PART TO COMPARE TO. *TR
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *NM
I DRIVE A 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE 4X4 WITH 67,000 MILES ON IT, AND A FEW WEEKS AGO, DURING TAKEOFF THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO HESITATE. OVER THE COURSE OF ABOUT A WEEK, IT GOT WORSE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO JIM ELLIS MAZDA OF MARIETTA AND THEY INFORMED US THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING ON THE VEHICLE, AND THAT MAZDA WOULD POSSIBLY PAY FOR HALF. THEY CONTACTED MAZDA, BUT MAZDA WOULD ONLY PAY 1/3 BECAUSE THEY SAID THERE WERE NO MAINTENANCE RECORDS ON MY TRANSMISSION. THERE AREN'T ANY RECORDS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HASN'T NEEDED ANY. AFTER KEEPING MY CAR FOR OVER A WEEK, THEY PHONED ME TO INFORM US THAT THE TRANSMISSION MAZDA CORPORATION SENT THEM WAS BAD AS WELL. CONSIDERING THE LOW MILEAGE AND THE SECOND TRANSMISSION HAD DEFECTS, I'M NOW CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN ALL THE 2001 TRANSMISSION, AND MAKES ME WONDER HOW MANY OTHER 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTES HAVE HAD TO BE REPAIRED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING ON THE MASS. TURNPIKE ON 04/23/06, MY VEHICLE WAS SUDDENLY ENGULFED IN THICK GRAY SMOKE. IT WAS DETERMINED BY MY INSURANCE AGENCY THAT IT WAS A "MECHANICAL FAILURE', WHICH RESULTED IN MY VEHICLE NEEDING A NEW ENGINE. I WAS UNABLE TO PAY FOR A NEW ENGINE, AND WAS REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE FROM MAZDA USA AND DEALER VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM. VEHICLE HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT. *NM
THE PORTION OF THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE WITH TRIGGERS THE LATCH SUDDENLY BROKE OFF, MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT DOORS OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. INCIDENT DATE RECORDED IS THE DATE OF THE SECOND HANDLE BREAK. AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO EXIT, REQUIRING EITHER A) ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOW AND PULLING ON THE EXTERIOR HANDLE, OR B) PUSHING EXTREMELY HARD ON ONE END OF THE LOCK, WHICH WILL TRIGGER THE DOOR TO UNLATCH. WHILE WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES ASIDE FROM INCONVENIENCE, IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY THIS COULD MAKE THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO EXIT, ESPECIALLY IF HANDLE FAILURE OCCURRING SUDDENLY TO SOMEONE NOT EXPECTING THE NON-FUNCTIONING HANDLE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDER ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS. THE OLD PART REMAINS ON THE VEHICLE AND WILL BE RETAINED ONCE REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH A THUMPING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE WHERE IT WAS NOTICED THE FRONT SWAY BAR WAS BROKEN. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. UPDATED 04/19/06. *JB
2001 TRIBUTE RACK AND PINION AND SHAFT BROKE INTO PIECES MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR CONSUMER TO STEER. *TS THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO AN IRREPARABLE LEAK. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK BROKE. THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, EITHER AUTOMATICALLY OR MANUALLY. THE ENTRY TO THE DOOR IS OPENED BY THE AUTOMATIC OPENER OR KEYPAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT OF THE DOOR LOCK. UPDATED 5/2/2006 - *NM
THREE OF MY EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN AND DO NOT WORK. THE FRONT DRIVER INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE IS ALSO BROKEN. FAILURE APPEARS TO BE FROM POORLY MADE DOOR HANDLES WITH SUB STANDARD MATERIALS. THIS IS A HIGH USE ITEM ON THE VEHICLE AND IS MADE FROM CHEAP, THIN PLASTIC. THESE PARTS ARE RELATIVELY EXPENSIVE. I HAVE NEVER HAD ISSUES LIKE THIS WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED. *TR
A WOMAN IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HER BRAKES SO I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES, MY BRAKES LOCKED AND I CRASHED INTO HER, HEAD ON, GOING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS OCCURRED AT 60 MPH WHILE BRAKING. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT TAKEN AT THE SCENE. ALTHOUGH THE SEAT BELT WAS WORN, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED 7 BROKEN RIBS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A BODY SHOP AND THE FRONT END IS BEING REPAIRED. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE THE IMPACT WAS TOO HIGH ON THE VEHICLE.
I OWN A 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE VEHICLE STALLS UNPREDICTABLY. THE MAZDA DEALER AND MAZDA CORPORATE ARE SUGGESTING THAT THE TWO POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULES (THE ORIGINAL) AND THE REPLACEMENT MODULES ARE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. IF THIS IS CORRECT, THEN THERE MUST BE SOME INHERENT DEFECT WITH THESE PCMS THAT MUST BE INVESTIGATED. *NM

CAR ENGINE DIES WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR FOR LAST THREE YEARS. DON'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY DID THE FIRST TIME, SECOND TIME THEY REPLACED THE P.C.V AND VENTILATION HOSE, THIRD TIME THE SENSOR,EN. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR THE ENGINE STILL DIED 6 TIMES WHEN I DROVE 10 MILES HOME. CAME CLOSE TO CRASHING DURING A TURN. BACK IN THE SHOP AS I WRITE. *NM
ON 11/07/05 VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN DUE TO STALLING WHEN SLOWING AND STOPPING. THE ENGINE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. ON 11/08/05 VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT BACK STILL STALLING. AC GASKET AND IDLE VALVE WERE REPLACED. WE WERE TOLD OUR ENGINE WAS DAMAGED AND DEALER WOULD NOT FIX. THE DAY I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE IT STALLED AT 60 MPH. THREE DAYS LATER IT WOULD NOT START. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO LOCAL MECHANIC, FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS UNDRIVABLE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS VEHICLE. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT STATED APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AGO THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVER SIDE STOPPED WORKING. HE HAD TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND USE THE OUTSIDE HANDLE TO GET OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, AND HE FOUND THE DOOR HANDLE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER AT THIS TIME. *AK
INTERIOR DRIVER DOOR LATCH BROKEN, CAN NOT EXIT USING HANDLE INSIDE OF DOOR. *JB
I WAS SHOPPING AT THE LOCAL WALMART WITH MY WIFE, WHO WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. WE WERE PARKED IN THE WALMART PARKING LOT. ON LEAVING, SHE ENGAGED THE CAR IN DRIVE AND BEGAN TO EASE OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE. THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO STOP IT EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES VERY HARD. THIS HAD HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE BUT ALWAYS IN A PLACE THAT WAS SAFE AND WHERE I COULD BRING THE CAR TO A STOP. IT ALWAYS HAPPENED AS I WAS MOVING FROM A PARKED POSITION. ON THIS OCCASION, IT WAS NOT SAFE, AND WE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER CAR. THE TRIBUTE WAS DAMAGED AT A COST OF $5,000 TO REPAIR. THE OTHER CAR ALSO HAD EXTENSIVE DAMAGES. I ASKED THE DEALER WHO REPAIRED THE CAR TO EXAMINE THE CRUISE CONTROL AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL FOR A DEFECT. HE ONLY TOLD ME THAT IT LOOKED "NORMAL". MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR NOW AND I HAVE A LOT OF APPREHENSION WHEN I FIRST START THE CAR AND BEGIN TO DRIVE. I THINK THAT THERE MUST BE A SUBTLE DEFECT IN EITHER THE CRUISE CONTROL OR THE ACCELERATOR THAT CAUSES THIS UNEXPECTED SURGE WHEN FIRST STARTING FROM A PARKED POSITION. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED ABOUT EIGHT MONTHS AGO THE DOOR HANDLE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE WOULD NOT WORK. ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AGO THE DOOR HANDLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR STOPPED WORKING. TWO DAYS AGO THE DOOR HANDLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR STOPPED WORKING. THE ONLY WAY THE CONTACT COULD GET OUT OF THE CAR WAS TO REACH OUTSIDE THE CAR OF THE PASSENGER'S SIDE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. IF THE ELECTRICAL WINDOWS OF THE CAR STOPPED WORKING HE WOULD BE TRAPPED IN THE CAR. HE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHEN HE FIRST STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS, AND THE DEALER SAID IT LOOKED LIKE A GROMMET, CHEAP PLASTIC PIECE, THAT CONNECTED THE LATCH TO THE HANDLE WAS BROKEN. THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, AND THE DEALER TOLD HIM THERE WAS NO RECALL.*AK UPDATED 1/19/2006 - THE DEALER REPLACED THE DRIVER'S INNER AND OUTER DOOR HANDLE AND THE INNER DOOR HANDLE ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE INSIDE DOOR LOCKS FAILED TO LOCK THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK WAS ALREADY REPLACED. THE DRIVER'S DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK, AND IT WILL ALSO HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE DOOR LOCKS OPERATED FROM THE OUTSIDE, BUT NOT FROM THE INSIDE. *AK

MY WIFE AND I BOTH DRIVE A 2001 TRIBUTE AND ARE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. SHE HAS ALREADY LOGGED A COMPLAINT UNDER HER VIN. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE FAILED, I WAS TRAPPED INSIDE THE CAR ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I HAD TO LOWER THE POWER WINDOW, REACH OUTSIDE OF THE CAR AND OPEN THE DOOR. I PURCHASED A HANDLE AND PAID TO HAVE THE DOOR HANDLE REPLACED ON 6/29/2005. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE FAILED , LEAVING THE PASSENGER TRAPPED INSIDE THE CAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. PASSENGERS HAD TO LOWER THE POWER WINDOW, REACH OUTSIDE THE CAR AND OPEN THE DOOR. I PURCHASED A HANDLE AND PAID TO HAVE THE DOOR HANDLE REPLACED ON 3/13/2006. RECENTLY, EVERY TIME I CRANK MY CAR A LARGE CLOUD OF GRAY SMOKE COMES FROM THE TAILPIPE. TODAY, 6/16/2006, I WENT TO PUT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION AND THE KEY WOULD NOT GO IN. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE KEY WENT INTO THE IGNITION BUT, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN. I WAS UNABLE TO START THE CAR. WITH ASSISTANCE FROM A LOCAL MECHANIC, AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS, THE KEY WENT IN, TURNED AND THE CAR STARTED. IT WAS SUGGESTED TO ME, DO NOT MAKE ANY STOPS ON THE WAY HOME THAT WOULD REQUIRE TURNING THE CAR OFF. ONCE I ARRIVED AT HOME I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR AGAIN. THE KEY WILL GO IN BUT, AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE KEY WILL NOT TURN TO START THE CAR. WITH THE MAZDA BEING MY ONLY VEHICLE I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY SON AND I. WHILE DRIVING THE MAZDA THE REAR GLASS ON THE HATCH OPENED. I PULLED OVER TO CLOSE THE GLASS AND IT WOULD NOT CLOSE AND LATCH. WITH THE HELP OF A LOCAL MECHANIC HE WAS ABLE TO CLOSE AND ENGAGE THE LATCH ON THE GLASS DOOR. WE AVOID OPENING THE REAR GLASS BUT ON ACCIDENT THE GLASS DOOR WAS OPENED AND IT WAS THE SAME SCENARIO. *NM
OCCASSIONALLY, WHILE MY CAR IS IDLE BOTH PARKED BUT RUNNING OR WHILE I'M IN TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE ACCELERATES AND THE RPM GAUGE RACES. THE ENGINE WILL NOT STOP RACING UNLESS I TURN THE CAR OFF. ALSO, DRIVER CAR DOOR DOES NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE, SERVICE DEALER SAYS I NEED TO REPLACE ENTIRE LOCK INCLUDING COMPONENTS NOT COVERED UNDER MAP.
DT CONSUMER STATED WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STALLED. THERE WERE NO BRAKES, THE CONSUMER COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF GEAR, AND SHE COULD NOT ACTIVATE ANY SAFETY ITEMS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD A RELAY SENSOR REPLACED BY A LOCAL SERVICE DEALER, THEY STATED THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *JB
UNUSUAL SQUEAKING NOISES HEARD FROM LOWER STEERING COLUMN WHERE IT CONNECTS TO POWER STEERING RACK AT SLOW SPEEDS. WHEN GOING SLOWLY OVER SMALL BUMPS AND TURNING STEERING WHEEL FROM SIDE TO SIDE, STRANGE NOISES CAN BE HEARD FROM THE STEERING RACK INCLUDING A MECHANICAL NOISE. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 29,300 MILES ON IT AND IS NOT USED OFF-ROAD. MAZDA DEALER FINDS WE NEED TO REPLACE THE TIE ROD ENDS AND HAS ORDERED REPLACEMENT PARTS. WE WILL ASK FOR THE OLD PARTS WHEN THE FINAL REPAIR IS MADE.
APPROX. 6 MONTHS AGO THE OUTSIDE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH ON MY 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE (80,000 MILES) BROKE AND I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. A MONTH AGO THE PASSANGER DOOR OUTSIDE LATCH BROKE AND I ALSO HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. A WEEK AGO THE INSIDE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH BROKE AND I AM FACED WITH REPLACING IT AT MY EXPENSE. IN VIRGINIA ALL DOOR LATCHES MUST WORK IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE INSPECTED, SO THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE FIXED BY MAZDA.
MAZDA TRIBUTE LEFT MY FAMILY SITTING IN TRAFFIC. COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION WITH NO WARNING. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 20K MILES. CLEARLY A FACTORY DEFECT.MAZDA ONLY GAVE $1000 OFF REPAIR. *AK

THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE GAS PEDAL ON HIS 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE HAS BECOME HARDER TO DEPRESS AND THE ENGINE JUMPS WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES. *NM THE CONSUMER WANTS TO KNOW IF RECALL 04V574000 APPLIES TO HIS VEHICLE, BECAUSE A RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THE 2003 FORD ESCAPE AND FORD ALSO MADE THE MAZDA TRIBUTE. *SC *JB
2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE HAS PROBLEMS WITH FUEL SYSTEM.***NO ANSWER REQUIRED*** . *MR UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED, THAT THE GASKETS AT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AS WELL AS THE FUEL LINE INLET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
MY 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE LX-V6 4WD, WAS RECALLED TO REPLACE THE "RACK "ON THE STEERING, THIS WAS DONE UNDER WARRANTY. THEN 8,728 MILES LATER THE VEHICLE HAD TO HAVE INNER AND OUTER TIE ROD AND BALL JOINTS REPLACED, AT MY EXPENSE. THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT I PROBABLY HIT A POT HOLE!! I FEEL THESE REPAIRS WERE DUE TO SOMETHING THAT WAS DONE WHILE REPLACING THE RACK. I'M THE SOLE DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS MOSTLY CITY DRIVING OR INTERSTATE...NOT FOUR WHEELING!!!*JB
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON. SYSTEM HAS FAILED FREQUENTLY AND BEEN REPAIRED BY DEALER, ONLY TO FAIL AGAIN SEVERAL MONTHS LATER.*AK

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V174000 (LOWER CONTROL ARM CORROSION-REGIONAL RECALL). THE CONTACT WAS STILL WAITING TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIRS HOWEVER, THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE NOT PERFORMED DUE TO PART AVAILABILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DELAY AND WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A TIME FRAME THAT THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THERE WERE NO FAILURES.
KNOWN PROBLEM IN TRANSMISSIONS USED IN FORD ESCAPES AND MAZDA TRIBUTES. PROBLEM WITH TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. FORD ISSUED OASIS FIX AND TSB BUT REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM WHEN VEHICLES OFF WARRANTY. HAS EXISTED AND BEEN UNOFFICIALLY ACKNOWLEDGED BY FORD SINCE 2001. HAS RESULTED IN COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE OF VEHICLES BEING OPERATED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. PERSONALLY, PROBLEM HAS RETURNED FOR 2ND TIME IN 7,000 MILES AFTER FACTORY "FIX".*AK
TRIBUTE WOULD MAKE SLIPPING NOISE WHEN ON A HILL. IT WOULD ALSO SHUTTER WHEN I FIRST TOOK OFF. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, BUT COULDN'T LOOK AT THE CAR UNTIL AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER, I TOOK OFF AND THE CAR SURGED. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR BACK INTO DRIVE, IT WOULDN'T MOVE. IT WAS TOWED TO THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP WHERE IT STILL SITS. I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT WOULD COST $2900+. THE DISTRICT MANAGER WAS NOTIFIED. THEY TOOK $1000.00 OFF THE PRICE. WHICH LEAVE ME PAYING ONLY $1900+ THE OTHER $900. I'VE PUT IN THIS CAR SINCE JULY 04. I HAD A FULL CIRCLE SERVICE INSPECTION DONE ON OCT.25 ,2004. THE TRANSMISSION CONDITION WAS GOOD AT THAT TIME, JUST 2 MONTHS EARLIER. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, FOR THE SECOND TIME IN ONE WEEK, VEHICLE LOST POWER. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER. CONSUMER WAS TOLD TO BE BRING IN THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK

SINCE THE FIRST MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP, OF ALL THE TIMES WE HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND TAKEN OUR CAR INTO THE DEALER, THEY NEVER RECOGNIZED THE RECALLS. WE HAVE PAID FOR REPAIRS AND HAVE NOT BEEN REIMBURSED. THE LAST TIME, DUE TO A RECALL ITEM, WE RETURNED THE CAR WITHIN DAYS OF "REPAIR." WE TOOK A NOTICE OF RECALL LETTER INTO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY KEPT OUR CAR FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS, IN PART DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH OUR CAR DURING A TEST DRIVE. THEY DID A POOR JOB ON THE BODY WORK AND THE CAR TRANSMISSION STILL GIVES US TROUBLE. THE CAR STALLS AND SURGES.
FRONT DISK ROTORS ARE COMPLETELY WORN OUT, ALTHOUGH THE PADS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE (NOT WORN OUT). MILEAGE IS UNDER 50,000 MILES.
CONSUMER SMELLED GAS FUMES AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER NOTICED A FUEL LEAKAGE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO PERFORM THE PCM ENGINE STALLING RECALL 04V157000 UNLESS A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED IN WHICH THE RECALL PART WAS THE FAILURE CODE. IF NOT THE CONSUMER WILL BE CHARGED $80.00 DOLLARS. *JB
VEHICLE SUNROOF FAILED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 5-6 OPERATIONS. VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 68000 MILES ON 11/30/04 WHEN TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. DUE TO THE MINIMAL USAGE PRIOR TO FAILURE, IT WAS EXPECTED AND REQUESTED THAT MAZDA PICK UP THE REPAIR EXPENSE. THEY DIAGNOSED FAILURE OF THE MOTOR ASSEMBLY REQUIRING COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE SYSTEM FOR $1678.00. MAZDA HAS REFUSED TO PAY FOR THIS.*AK
