STRONG GAS SMELL
I HAVE MY CAR IN THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC TELLS ME I NEED A PVC HOSE AND A OXYGEN SENSOR AND BOTH THOSE ITEMS ARE ON A RECALL LIST. HE ASKED ME TO CALL THE DEALER I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THOSE ARE RECALL ITEMS BUT NOT FOR MY CAR. MY COMPLAINT IS WHY IF THIS IS A RECALL ITEM IT SHOULD BE FOR ALL CARS. THOSE ARE THE ONLY 2 THINGS WRONG WITH MY CAR. I NEED HELP.
MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS MANY OTHER MERCEDES BENZ OWNERS THE FUEL SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN BECAUSE A FAILURE IN THE FUEL SENDING UNITS. *TR
BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN JUNE 2014, AFTER EVERY TIME I FILLED THE GAS TANK, THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS INSIDE THE CAR, AUGUST 2, 2014 CAR JUST CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, LOST ALL POWER LIKE IT WAS GETTING NO GAS AND JUST CUT OFF. AUGUST 5, FILLED GAS TANK TO TAKE TO SHOP AND HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND GAS LEAKED FROM UNDERSIDE OF DRIVERS SIDE REAR AREA AND AGAIN STRONG SMELL OF GAS INSIDE THE CAR, DID SOME INVESTIGATION TO FIND OUT THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH OTHER MERCEDES CARS. APPARENTLY THERE HAS BEEN RECALLS ON THE E SERIES FROM THE YEAR 2004 FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT THIS A DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD AND MERCEDES SHOULD BE CALLED OUT TO FIX IT. *TR
I SMELT FUEL INSIDE MY CAR WHENEVER MY CAR WOULD BE FILLED TO A FULL TANK OF GAS AND FOR A PERIOD OF TIME UNTIL THE FUEL LEVEL DROPPED. MY CAR STARTED TO DRIVE FUNNY AND NOT ACCELERATE NORMALLY THEN STOPPED ALL TOGETHER. MERCEDES DIAGNOSED IT AS A FUEL SYSTEM ISSUE. I BOUGHT THE PARTS AT MERCEDES AND HAD IT REPAIRED AND THEN THEN RECEIVED A WEEK LATER A RECALL FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM AS A SAFETY ISSUE. . THE DEALER DID NOT FIX MY CAR AND HAS AVOIDED THE ASSISTANCE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AND I CAN NOT REACH ANYONE AT MERCEDES CORPORATE THAT CAN HELP.
I SMELLED STRONG VAPORS OF GAS INSIDE MY CAR AND OUTSIDE THE AREA. I LOOKED UNDER CAR GAS WAS POURING OUT FROM UNDER FUEL TANK . TOOK IT TO ( TOWED THAT IS) THE SHOP FIND FUEL TANK WAS DEFECTIVE ! FOUND HOLE IN THE TANK ON THE TAB IF THAT MAKES SENSE . THE SHOP CALLED AROUND FOR SAFETY RECALL AND MERCEDES SEE IF ANY OTHER INFORMATION. I AM AWARE MERCEDES HAS HAD PROBLEM IN PAST WITH FUEL TANKS . THE SOP INFORMED ME IF I DROVE THIS CAR WITH HEAT FROM EXHAUST WOULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE ., I AM TRYING TO CONTACT MERCEDES CORPORATE HEAD QUARTERS WITH NO LUCK . IS THERE ANYWAY I CAN REPORT FILE HAVE RECOURSE .THIS CAME TO 3000.00 OUT OF POCKET ! NOT MENTION IT COULD HAVE HAD SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES ! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCEDES E320. THE CONTACT STATED FUEL FUMES WERE EMITTED IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000. UPDATED 8/27/14*CN UPDATED 09/5/2014 *JS
THE FUEL TANK WILL ONLY FILL TO 3/4 AND THE VEHICLE HAS AN ODOR OF GASOLINE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO MERCEDES BENZ FOR SERVICE FOR THIS ISSUE AND THEY STATE THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT AND HAVING SPENT APPROXIMATELY $1.000 FOR MERCEDES TO TRY AND DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THEY ADVISED THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX. I HAVE NOTED A RECALL FOR FUEL LEAK PROBE ON MERCEDES 2003-2008 E CLASS MODELS THAT HAS NOW BEEN CLOSED AFTER MERCEDES HAS AGREED TO FIX THE ISSUE. I CONTACTED MERCEDES NORTH AMERICA AND THEY STATE THE ISSUE ON MY C CLASS IS NOT RELATED TO THAT RECALL AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. THE MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE IS VERY LOW AND THIS SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED IN MY C-CLASS THAT THEY REFUSE TO FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCEDES BENZ E320. THE CONTACT SMELLED A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR COMING FROM VEHICLE. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE REAR SEAT AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL WAS FILLED WITH GASOLINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE VALVES NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
FUEL SENDING SENSOR DEFECTIVE CAUSING VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN OUT OF FUEL, BUT FUEL GAUGE READS A LITTLE LESS THAN HALF FULL. *TR
1. FUEL SMELL COMING FROM CAR. 2004 MERCEDES BENZ C 230 KOMPRESSOR 2. FUEL SENDING UNIT CRACKED CAUSING THE FUEL SMELL. SIMILAR TO MB VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN #2008-020001. FUEL SMELL IS CONSTANT AND COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD IF PASSENGER LIGHTS A CIGARETTE AND FUMES COULD COMBUST. IF VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THE CHANCES OF A FIRE IS GREATER. 3. I HAD NO CHOICE AND HAD TO HAVE PROBLEM REPAIRED. THE REPLACEMENT PART DID NOT FIT EXISTING PARTS WHICH INCREASED THE COST OF THE REPAIR CONSIDERABLY. *TR
HESITATION (JERKING) UPON ACCELERATION, USUALLY DURING TURNS OR WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE (NEW). I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR REPAIR FOR THIS PROBLEM NO LESS THAN SEVEN (7) TIMES, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINS. THERE IS ALSO A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT OCCURS WHEN THE BRAKE IS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE IS IDLING. ATTEMPTS TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING: CHARCOAL CANISTER SHUT OFF VALVE REPLACEMENT, LEAK IN CODUCTOR SLEEVE REPAIRED, PERFORMED ADAPTATION OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER, FLUSHED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER, REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTER, AND INSTALLED RESTRICTOR IN THE PURGE LINE. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON THE VEHICLE HAVE BEEN VERY PROBLEMATIC. I HAD A BLOW OUT ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE @ 14,190 MILES. I THEN REPLACED BOTH REAR TIRES. I HAD ANOTHER BLOW OUT ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE AT 26,400 MILES WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I REPLACED THAT TIRE AGAIN ALONG WITH THE WHEEL/RIM. AT 35,522 MILES I HAD A BLOWOUT ON THE FRONT LEFT TIRE WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY AGAIN. I THEN REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES, BECAUSE THEY ALL NEEDED REPLACING AT THAT TIME. *TR
