I HAD FILLED MY GAS TANK TO FULL. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, THERE WAS A LEAK BY THE DRIVERS REAR WHEEL. SMELLED LIKE GAS. I FOUND OUT THIS IS A RECALL FROM MERCEDES BENZ. "CHECK FUEL FILTER MODULE ASSEMBLY AND REPAIR OR REPLACE IF NECESSARY" THE EMISSION RECALL CAMPAIGN IS: 2008020001
THE DRIVER OF THE MERCEDES WAS TRAVELING EAST ON INTERSTATE 80 IN A RURAL AREA OF CALIFORNIA. THE DRIVER CLAIMS TO HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO LEAVE THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE FREEWAY WHILE TRAVERSING A LEFT CURVE IN THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE LAUNCHED OFF A SLIGHT DOWNHILL EMBANKMENT SOUTH OF THE ROADWAY AND THE VEHICLE TRAVERSED AN UNDULATED VEGETATIVE AREA PRIOR TO STRIKING A LARGE DIAMETER TREE WITH THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE IMPACT WAS RIGHT OF THE CENTER OF THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER WERE WEARING THEIR TYPE-2 SAFETY BELTS. AFTER STRIKING THE TREE, THE VEHICLE OVERTURNED ONTO ITS LEFT SIDE AND CAME TO REST ON ITS ROOF. THE DRIVER FRONT AND SIDE-CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AS DID THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE-CURTAIN AIRBAG. THE FRONT PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. BOTH OCCUPANTS SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THE COLLISION. THE INVESTIGATING CHP OFFICER OBSERVED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND REQUESTED AN EVALUATION OF THE SYSTEM DUE TO A PERCEIVED POTENTIAL SRS SYSTEM FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCEDES BENZ E320. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO RESPOND AND AN EXTRA EFFORT WAS NEEDED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 55MPH, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON SAYING REDUCE BRAKING POWER. CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP. I ALMOST HIT A GUARD RAIL.
I HAD SUDDEN AND ALMOST TOTAL LOSS OF BREAKING. FORTUNATELY, THIS HAPPENED IN A LEFT TURN LANE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN A RURAL AREA SO THERE WAS LITTLE DANGER. HOWEVER, IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE HAD THIS HAPPENED IN INTERSTATE TRAFFIC. I WAS ON A SLIGHT HILL AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STOPPED WITHOUT HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, BUT I HAD TO PRESS THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO TRY AND DIAGNOSE WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THEN THE CAR LOCKED UP IN PARK SO IT COULDN'T EVEN BE PUSHED. THE DEAL WOUND UP REPLACING THE SBC PUMP AND THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER WHICH WAS DAMAGED DURING MY EFFORTS TO STOP THE CAR. THE CAR HAS 110,400 MILES AND HAS BEEN DEALER MAINTAINED THE ENTIRE TIME.
WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR'S DISPLAY TURNED RED WITH WARNING MESSAGE "BRAKE DEFECTIVE STOP VEHICLE"- BRAKES BECAME STIFF. CAR WAS IN LIMP MODE. I TOOK VEHICLE TO THE MERCEDES BENZ DEALER IN FRESNO. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS AN "SBC BRAKE CONTROLLER FAILURE". THEY TOLD ME THAT THESE HAD BEEN TROUBLESOME FOR YEARS, THEY HAVE SINCE BEEN DISCONTINUED BECAUSE OF UNRELIABLITY OF THE BRAKES, AND MERCEDES WOULD NOT COVER REPAIR COST.

EMISSION SYSTEM HAS MULTIPLE ISSUES OVER TIME THAT CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGJT TO ENGAGE. PROBLEM S RANGE FROM, GAS CAP TO FUEL TANK PARTS TO VALVES TO CARBON CANISTER ISSUES. ALL ISSUES OCCUR WHEN VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. NO IMPACT.
AFTER BEING TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT SBC GOING INTO EMERGENCY MODE HE STATED HE THOUGHT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF RECALL CALLED MERCEDES IN LAGUNA NIGUEL TOLD ME THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THAT MODEL CAR BLOW OFF . BUT THERE WAS EXTENDED WARRANTY 10 YEARS NO LETTER NOW RED WARNING OTHER DAY AND COULD BARELY STOP THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR 2007 NOW THEY TOLD ME OHH THERE WAS ONE NOW EXPIRED VERY VERY UNHAPPY AND SCARED TO DRIVE NOW
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCEDES BENZ E500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM AND GASKET WERE LEAKING AND THE FUMES WERE STRONG THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE USED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE TOP SEAL AND THE FUEL PUMP WERE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE REOCCURRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY AT A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE DEALER WILL NO LONGER COVER THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE REPAIR COST WERE COVERED BY THE CONTACT INITIALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCEDES-BENZ E320. ONE DAY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE SERVICE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V133000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 154,809.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCEDES-BENZ E320. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. IN ADDITION, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO PLACE THE GEAR INTO PARK AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
UPON EXITING A HIGHWAY, A RED BRAKE FAILURE WARNING AND BEEPING NOISE APPEARED. ALL BRAKING CAPABILITY WAS ABSENT, SO I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY ROLL TO A STOP. THIS HAPPENED TWICE (ODOMETER DURING THESE INCIDENCES EXCEEDING 120,000) AND I NOW HAVE A WHITE MESSAGE APPEARING WHEN I START THE VEHICLE WHICH NOTES "BRAKES - VISIT WORKSHOP". THE TIMES THAT THE BRAKES SEIZED UP ON ME I WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND START UP AGAIN WITH NO MESSAGE EVER TO APPEAR FOR MONTHS AT A TIME, WHICH MADE ME THINK IT WAS SOME SORT OF COMPUTER ERROR MESSAGE. I HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED AND THE MECHANIC COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THEM, SO I WAS ALWAYS SENT ON MY WAY WITH NO REPAIR WORK DONE. I HAVE REACHED MY LIMIT WITH THIS VEHICLE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE AND IT IS UNFORTUNATE I HAD TO EXPERIENCE SUCH TRAUMA TWICE. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO NOT CRASH INTO ANYONE AND HAD CONVENIENT PARKING LOTS TO ROLL INTO. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER. IT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE.
CAR HAS A VERY STRONG GAS SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN. UPON REMOVAL OF BACK SEAT IT APPEARS WET WITH GAS. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ON FEBRUARY 5, 2016 ON MY E320 (2005) BENZ AND THE ODOR STARTED TO GIVE ME HEADACHES. I TOOK CAR FOR SHAMPOO AND THEN CONSULTED WITH MECHANIC WHO REMOVED BACK SEAT AND FOUND WET AREA WITH GAS.
THE SBC PUMP FAILED CAUSING ME TO LOSE BRAKING POWER WHILE DRIVING CAUSING ME COMING CLOSE TO HAVING A REAR END COLLISION ON THE INTERSTATE
UPON FUELING THE VEHICLE THERE IS A VERY PUNGENT GASOLINE VAPOR SMELL FROM BOTH THE EXTERIOR & INTERIOR OF THE CAR. THE SMELL BEGINS TO DISSIPATE WHEN FUEL IN THE TANK REACHES 3/4-1/2 TANK. THE SMELL OF FUMES IS ENOUGH TO PRODUCE NAUSEA, HEADACHES, ITCHING SKIN, WATERING EYES & EVEN VOMITING IN DRIVERS & PASSENGERS. EVEN WITH WINDOWS DOWN & SUNROOF OPEN, THE SMELL IS INTOLERABLE. THE CAR WILL "SPUTTER" WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 105,800 MILES ON IT. THIS ISSUE WAS FIRST NOTICED AT APPROXIMATELY 103,000. AN APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN SCHEDULED WITH A MB DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION ON 2/6/2016. I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS WE'VE PRESENTED FROM THE FUMES & FEAR OF A FIRE DUE TO THE POTENTIAL OF A FAULTY FUEL TANK/SYSTEM. MY 5 & 6 YEAR OLD SONS SIT IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE & CAN'T TOLERATE THE FUMES. WE'VE HAD TO RESORT TO CARRYING MY SONS ASTHMA INHALER WITH US WHEN RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE. THE VAPORS HAVE DIRECTLY AFFECTED HIS ASTHMA & WE FEEL THE FUMES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ASTHMA ATTACK THAT HAS OCCURRED WHEN HE'S RIDDEN AS A PASSENGER. ISSUE NEEDS TO BE SOLVED IMMEDIATELY AT THE EXPENSE OF MB, EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS PROBLEM & NUMEROUS SIMILAR REPORTS HAVE BEEN FILED.
I HAVE A 2005 E320 MERCEDES BENZ. EVERY TIME WE FILL THE TANK WE GET A STRONG GAS SMELL INSIDE THE VEHICLE. AFTER WE DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR A WHILE WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN THE SMELL DISSIPATES. THE SMELL IS COMING FROM UNDER THE REAR SEATS. I SUSPECT THE SEAL ON THE GAS TANK HAS FAILED. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY THE MANUFACTURE. IT IS NOT A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ITEM. MY CONCERN IS FUEL FUMES CAN IMPAIR ONES DRIVING ABILITY AND LEAKING FUEL CAN CREATE A SAFETY HAZARD. WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THAT I HAVE COME ACROSS I FEEL THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RE-CALL TO CORRECT.
HAVE VEHICLE FOR 4 MONTHS AND WAS UNAWARE OF MERCEDEZ BENZ EXTENDED 10 YEAR WARRANTY, BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES PER HOUR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FLASHED RED WITH "DECREASED BRAKING POWER, STOP DRIVING AND VISIT WORKSHOP". UNFORTUNATELY, I WAS TRAVELLING AT MID DAY IN TRAFFIC AND COULD NOT STOP THE CAR, WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE WITH BOTH FEET TO THE FLOOR, AND I STILL MANAGED TO BLOW THROUGH 2 RED LIGHTS, BUT NOT KILL ANYBODY.(IT TOOK OVER 3 BLOCKS TO STOP.) THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A RECALL ISSUE, AS 750 TSB'S HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST THIS MODEL. IF OWNERS CHOOSE NOT REPAIR THIS MALFUNCTION(5000 COST)...PEOPLE WILL DIE,,,KIDS WILL DIE. BRAKE SYSTEMS SUCH AS THESE HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED BY CAR MAKERS BECAUSE OF THE DANGERS. NTSB, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO REALIZE THAT THESE "DANGEROUS" VEHICLES ARE ON THE ROAD AND DEMAND MB EXTENDS THE WARRANTY UNTIL ALL "DANGEROUS" CARS ARE ON THE ROAD AND NEED REPAIRS. THESE VEHICLES ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN A LOADED GUN..JUST WAITING TO KILL SOMEONE. I HOPE TO HEAR SOME ACTION QUICKLY...YOURS TRULY, A GUY DRIVING A LOADED WEAPON.

SENSED STRONG GAS ODOR AT FILL UP. INVESTIGATE ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS CAR HAS THIS KNOWN ISSUE BUT IT IS NOT A RECALL.? HAD MB MECHANIC LOOK AND FOUND LEAKING GAS UNDER REAR SEAT NEAR FUEL PUMP.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V133000 (SERVICE BRAKES; HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000.
STRONG FUEL SMELL AFTER FILLING TANK, DRIVERS SIDE FUEL SENDING UNIT ON DRIVERS SIDE OF FUEL TANK LEAKING FUEL. NOTICEABLE CRACKS IN CORNERS OF UNIT AROUND FUEL PRESSURE SENDER.
DRIVER'S SIDE FUEL/PUMP SENDER UNIT IS LEAKING FUEL CAUSING STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE INSIDE OF CABIN AND POSING SERIOUS SECURITY RISK TO DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. AFTER REMOVING INSPECTION COVER FROM DRIVER'S SIDE PUMP/SENDER UNIT, POOLED FUEL WAS OBSERVED ON TOP OF SENDING UNIT.

THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE VEHICLE WAS BEING HACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
HYDRAULIC BRAKE PUMP MAY FAIL WITH NO WARNING, REDUCING BRAKING POWER BY 80-90%. PUMP HAS "KNOWN" SERVICE LIFE BUT DEALERS ARE UNABLE TO SCAN FOR REMAINING LIFE. PUMP FAILURE RENDERS THE CAR NON-DRIVABLE, WITH TOWING REQUIRED, AND REPLACEMENT OF PUMP IS TYPICALLY BETWEEN $1,500 AND $2,500.

THE CONTACT THEN STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
REPLACED BATTERY (30 DAYS AGO) AND NOW WARNING LIGHT COMES ON SAYING I NEED TO REPLACE THE BATTERY EVERY 10 MILES AND WILL NOT GO OFF. BRAKE LIGHTS (ABS AND ESP) LIGHTS COMNE ON AND NOTHING IS WRONG WHEN IT IS BEING REPAIRS. FILLED UP MY CAR YESTERDAY AND STRONG GAS FUMES IN THE CAR AND IN MY GARAGE. MADE ME NAUSEATED. READ THIS WAS RECALL FOR THAT YEAR AND MODEL.
JUST RECEIVED MY E500 FROM THE MERCEDES BENZ REPAIR SHOP 2.5 WEEKS AGO. THEY FIXED THE PREVIOUS INTERIOR OIL SMELL, HOWEVER I NOTICED MY ALARM GOING OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING OR BY ITSELF SOMETIMES WHILE THE CAR SAT IN THE DRIVEWAY. THIS HAPPENED TWO DIFFERENT DAYS BUT THE CAR STILL DROVE. THEN I WENT TO OPEN MY CAR YESTERDAY MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK AND THE CAR HAS NO POWER. I'M ASSUMING THE ALARM EVENTUALLY WORE ON THE BATTERY. NOW I HAVE NO CAR TO DRIVE. HELP!!!
BOUGHT USED ONE OWNER CAR W/88,500 MILES IN JULY 2015. AFTER DRIVING ONLY 200 MILES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START, IT WAS TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. CODES READ CRANKSHAFT SENSOR, GENERATOR. MECHANIC REPLACED CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND REPAIRED WIRE TO IT. DID NOT REPLACE ALTERNATOR. CALLED AND ADVISED CAR WAS READY FOR PICKUP. PICKED UP CAR AND DROVE LESS THAN 2 MILES AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. TOOK BACK TO MECHANIC WHO REMOVED CODES. DROVE ANOTHER 5 MILES AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. HE DIDN'T ANSWER PHONE, DROVE HOME IN LIMP MODE WHERE IT SAT FOR OVER A MONTH WHEN ANOTHER MECHANIC WAS WILLING TO TACKLE JOB. HE PUT ON NEW ALTERNATOR AND DRIVE BELT. CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS BAD AGAIN AND HE REPLACED IT. CAR WOULD NOT START. TOWED TO MB IN FRANKLIN, TN WHO SAID ECM/ ECU MODULE BAD. REPLACED IT AND THEN SAID BATTERIES BAD, AND ALTERNATOR BAD. THEY REPLACED BATTERIES BUT LOCAL MECHANIC TOLD THEM ALTERNATOR WAS WORKING FINE WHEN IT WAS PUT IN CAR. CAR TOWED BACK TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO CHECKED AND SAID ALTERNATOR WAS INDEED BAD NOW AND HE REPLACED IT WITH ONE HE CHECKED OUT AGAIN BEFORE INSTALLING. NOW THE ALTERNATOR WAS NOT BEING ALLOWED TO CHARGE THE SYSTEM AND IS BEING TOWED BACK TO MB IN FRANKLIN, TN. I AM YELLING AT THE TOP OF MY VOICE FOR YOU TO GO AFTER THEM WITH A VENGEANCE AND MAKE THEM DO THE REPAIRS. I HAVE SPENT OVER $4000. AFTER FUELING AND THE GAS TANK INDICATOR SHOWS FULL THERE IS A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE IN THE CABIN IT IS SO STRONG THAT WE MUST DRIVE WITH WINDOWS DOWN AND SUNROOF OPEN. IN RAINY OR COLD WEATHER THAT IS NOT A GOOD OPTION. THE FUMES DISSIPATE AFTER THE FUEL INDICATOR NEARS THE 1/2 FULL MARK IS VERY UNHEALTHY TO BREATHE IN THESE FUMES AND THERE IS ALSO A FIRE RISK.
RE COMPLAINT NUMBER 10778442 SINCE THE LAST REPORT THE SITUATION HAS GOTTEN MUCH WORSE. INITIALLY THE GASOLINE FUMES WOULD OCCUR WHILE THE TANK WAS MORE THAN 1/2 FULL. NOW THE FUMES ARE VERY VERY STRONG WHEN THE TANK IS FULL BUT REMAIN STRONG EVEN AS THE FUEL INDICATOR NEARS THE EMPTY MARK. THIS THIS THE ONLY VEHICLE I OWN AND MY FAMILY AND MYSELF CANNOT REMAIN IN THE CAR FOR MORE THAN A FEW MOMENTS. THE FUME ARE OVERPOWERING AND THIS IS A MAJOR HEALTH CONCERN WISE AS WELL AS A CHANCE OF FIRE.

THE MERCEDES MODEL E CLASS FROM 2003-2008 HAVE A DEFECTIVE SBC UNIT WHICH CONTROL THE BRAKES ON THE CAR, THIS UNIT IS PRONE TO FAIL AT ANYTIME TIME WITHOUT WARNING, I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND IT HAS HAPPENED TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, I WILL BE SHOCKED IF THIS HASN'T CAUSED A FATALITY, MERCEDES IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY ISSUED A 10 YEAR WARRANTY TO FIX THIS, BUT IF THE UNIT FAILS AFTER THE 10 YEARS THEY WILL CHARGE YOU OVER $2500 TO REPAIR SOMETHING THAT THEY MANUFACTURED DEFECTIVE, WHICH IS INSANE. THIS IS A REPAIR THAT SHOULD BE COVERED FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE, I GUESS TO THEM, A LIFE IS ONLY IMPORTANT FOR 10 YEARS. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST (OR MORE LIVES ARE LOST) BECAUSE OF THIS LUDICROUS ERROR ON THE PART OF MERCEDES.
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF AS THE VEHICLE WAS DECELERATING TO A STOP. TWICE IT OCCURRED AS THE VEHICLE WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A STOPLIGHT AND ONCE IT HAPPENED AS THE VEHICLE WAS ON AN OFF-RAMP, EXITING I-95. ON THE FIRST TWO OCCASIONS, AT THE STOPLIGHTS, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. ON THE THIRD OCCASION, ON THE OFF-RAMP, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART UNTIL IT WAS ALLOWED TO COOL FOR AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES. THIS WAS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS ON THE OFF-RAMP. AFTER THE THIRD OCCASION, I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE "CRANK POSITION SENSOR" WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN AT ANY TIME WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION IS A SAFETY HAZARD. OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED THAT IT CAN HAPPEN AND SHOULD BE URGED TO GET IT CHECKED.
I AM REFERENCING A MERCEDES BENZ SERVICE BULLETIN P-B-91.60/99E. THE CONTROL CLUSTER SHOWS SRS LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. I TOOK MY CAR INTO A MERCEDES DEALER AND PAID TO HAVE CARE ANALYZED. THE MECHANIC INDICATED MY CAR HAS THE FOLLOWING FAULT CODES: DTC 9103 (THE RESISTANCE VALUE IN THE IGNITION CIRCUIT CONTAINING COMPONENT R12/13 IS TOO HIGH) AND DTC 9123 (THE RESISTANCE VALUE IN THE IGNITION CIRCUIT CONTAINING COMPONENT R12/14 IS TOO HIGH). BOTH PERTAINING TO A FAULTY SCM HARNESS LOCATED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. I WAS TOLD THIS IS DANGEROUS AND THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, MY AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF MBUSA KNOWS THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE AND HAS EVEN GONE SO FAR AS TO MAKE A SERVICE KIT TO REPAIR HARNESS, WHY ARE THEY NOT RESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR THIS, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE EXTREME DANGER THIS IS POSING? I HAVE LOOKED INTO THE COST OF THE PARTS, RETAIL AND FOR AROUND $100 TO PURCHASE. THE DEALER WANTS OVER $700 FOR LABOR ALONE, PLUS ANOTHER $250 FOR PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO SERVICED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE SBC PUMP, STATING THAT THE STATUTE HAD EXPIRED TO RECEIVE THE REPAIR; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED SEVERAL WARNINGS OF PROBLEMS WITH SBC, ABS, ESP. THE BRAKES THEN REQUIRED A GREAT DEAL OF PRESSURE TO EFFECTIVELY STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE BECAME MUCH HARDER TO STEER.AFTER PULLING OFF THE HIGHWAY AND PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK, I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF PARK.THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MY MECHANIC WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED A PROBLEM WITH THE SBC,AND ESP MODULES. I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH MERCEDES BENZ VEHICLES WITH THIS BRAKING SYSTEM, SO MUCH SO THAT THE DISCONTINUED USING IT. THIS CREATES AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE DRIVERS OF THESE VEHICLES AND MERCEDES SHOULD EITHER REPAIR ALL EFFECTED VEHICLES OR REMOVE THEM FROM THE ROAD.
I RECEIVED THE RED DASH WARNING AT THE SAME TIME AS THE COMPLETE BRAKING FAILURE (NOT BEFORE) AND THERE WAS MAYBE 2% BRAKING CAPABILITY REMAINING (USELESS HYDRAULIC FAIL SAFE). FOR SOME REASON MB PUTS A # OF ACTUATIONS ON THE SYSTEM BEFORE IS QUITS OR MUST BE REPLACED. MB HAS INSTRUCTED DEALERS TO NOT REPLACE THE SYSTEM UNLESS A PARTICULAR CODE SHOWS UP UNDER A DIAGNOSTIC READ. PROBLEM IS THAT FROM THE DEALER OWN SERVICE TECHS.....'FAILING PUMPS DON'T ALWAYS THROW A CODE THAT WILL BE STORED IN THE COMPUTER, OR THERE IS A RESET FACILITY BUILT INTO THE COMPUTER SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM THAT IS TO RESET A CODE FOR ISSUES WITH THE SBC SYSTEM WHEN CAR IS CYCLED OFF THEN RESTARTED.' MB REFUSES TO FIX SUCH SAFETY ISSUE IF REPAIR IS NEEDED BEYOND THEIR 10 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY, THE SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM (SBC) FAILED AND THERE WERE NO NOTICEABLE BRAKES. THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE. MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THAT IF YOU APPLY ADDITIONAL PRESSURE DURING A FAILURE, THERE WILL BE SOME BRAKING POWER AVAILABLE. IN THE SITUATION THOUGH, WHEN THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR, HUMAN INSTINCT IS TO IMMEDIATELY FIND AN ALTERNATIVE WAY TO STOP THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY DOWNSHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION AND APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVERS MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. MERCEDES BENZ USA IS AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL FOR ALL SBC ELECTRIC PUMPS TO FAIL AT ANY TIME CAUSING THIS SAME SITUATION FOR ANYONE. THEY ARE UNWILLING TO COVER THE DEFECTIVE PART BECAUSE I AM 1 MONTH BEYOND THE 'EXTENDED WARRANTY.' THEY CLAIM THAT AS WITH ANY CAR PARTS, THE SBC SYSTEM CAN BE EXPECTED TO FAIL AT SOME POINT. ANYTHING BEYOND 10 YEARS AND THEY DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR. NORMALLY I WOULD AGREE WITH THAT SENTIMENT, BUT NOT WHEN IT CONCERNS THE PRIMARY ELECTRIC SYSTEM OF ELECTRIC BRAKES TO FAIL. THERE SHOULD AT LEAST BE A SUFFICIENT AND NOTICEABLE HYDRAULIC BACK UP IF THIS PART IS ENGINEERED TO FAIL. MERCEDES HAS RECENTLY EXTENDED ALL FUEL TANK RELATED ISSUES AND COMPONENTS TO 15 YEAR COVERAGE, AND THIS WOULD AT LEAST BE A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION FOR THE SBC SYSTEM. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE MERCEDES BENZ USA AND THE NHTSA SHOULD MANDATE A RECALL OF ALL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH SBC TO BE INSPECTED YEARLY AND REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT NORMALLY WITH NO ERROR DISPLAYING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE, THEY SAID WITHOUT A FAULT CODE IN THE SYSTEM, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO FULLY FAIL BEFORE THEY COULD ADDRESS IT. I'M SCARED OF THIS CAR NOW, I DON'T DARE DRIVE IT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS, ANY OTHER SYSTEM FINE, BUT BRAKES? THIS SHOULD BE A NO BRAINER. NHTSA, PLEASE HELP US. *TR
12/31/2014 HI, CUSTOMER CARE / TECHNICAL ADVISER, MB USA. I AM UNABLE TO CONTACT AND DISCUSS WITH ANY CUSTOMER CARE OR TECHNICAL CARE ADVISER TODAY. MERCEDES BENZ, E-500, 2005, V8, 4 DOOR SEDAN YESTERDAY, 12/30/2014 BETWEEN 9:30 TO 10:30 AM, WE BOTH (ME AND MY WIFE, [XXX]) WERE IN THE CAR LUCKILY WE HAD TAKEN AN EXIT FROM THE HIGHWAY 404 NORTH IN YORK REGION, ONTARIO, CANADA WHEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE BRAKE FAILURE SIGN SHOWED UP WITH RED WARNING LIGHT. I COULDN'T CONTROL THE CAR SINCE BRAKE WERE TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE AND FAILED. IT WAS A HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE WHICH HAS LEFT US INDIGNANT, I AM NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING MY CAR NOW EVEN REPAIRED BY MB, ONTARIO, CANADA, NOW MY CAR IS IN MB NEWMARKET LOCATION ON MULLOCK STREET, ONTARIO, CANADA. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE WHOLE BRAKE MODULE IS BAD AND YOU HAVE TO REPLACE BEFORE DRIVING AND THE COST IS ALMOST 3000/= CANADIAN DOLLARS. I AM LODGING THIS COMPLAINT AGAINST MB USA NOW IN REGARDS TO SAFETY ISSUE, GOD SAVED US BUT WE ARE STILL IN SHOCKED AND MENTALLY UPSET AND SCARED DRIVING MB CARS FOR NOW. I ALSO HAVE GL 450, 2008 , I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE CALL ME AND DISCUSS THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE WITH ASAP.
