TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML 500. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V465000 (STEERING: HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST: HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS). WHEN RECEIVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE AUTHORIZED DEALER, THE CONTACT BEGAN TO NOTICE POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND WHEREVER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE BUT NO REMEDY WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,726 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES ML320. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 50 MPH, THE STEERING LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE WHEEL TO BECOME TREMENDOUSLY HARD TO TURN. SHE ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER SHE WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE OFF OF HE HIGHWAY SAFELY. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL CAMPAIGN ON THE VEHICLE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 03V121000; STEERING, HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS) AND ADVISED COMING IN FOR REPAIRS. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO DATE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON ESP/BAS LIGHT CAME ON. CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO DISENGAGE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED TO SLOW VEHICLE, CAUSING ENGINE TO RACE FORCING VEHICLE TO SPEED UP ALMOST CRASHING INTO VEHICLE AHEAD. CRUISE CONTROL COULD ONLY BE DISENGAGED BY PUTTING TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND DEPRESSING BRAKE. THIS IS FIRST TIME FAILURE OCCURRED. DEALER REPLACES STOP LAMP SWITCH (PART IS AVAILABLE), RECOMMENDED REPLACING BRAKE PRESSURE SENSOR AND BAS RELEASE SWITCH AT A COST TO ME OVER $1,000. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY MATTER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML320. WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE VERY SLOWLY. HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, OPENED THE HOOD, AND NOTICED SMOKE. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. HE WILL CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 76,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I HAD A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE WHILE DRIVING ONE OF YOUR VEHICLES. I AM THE OWNER OF A MERCEDES 2002 ML320, WHICH WAS PURCHASED AT A PHILLIPS MERCEDES DEALERSHIP IN VIRGINIA BEACH VA. I NEED TO ADDRESS A VERY SERIOUS INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED OVER THE WEEKEND (DECEMBER 18, 2010). I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM RICHMOND GOING TOWARD VIRGINIA BEACH, I WAS DRIVING 70 MPH ON I-64 AND HAD IT ON CRUISE CONTROL, AHEAD I SAW THAT TRAFFIC SLOWING DOWN SO I STEPPED ON THE BREAK; I THEN REALIZED THAT MY BRAKES WEREN'T WORKING AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP OR SLOW THE CAR DOWN. I ATTEMPTED TO PUSH THE BREAK PEDAL DOWN AND IT WOULDN'T NUDGE EVEN THOUGH I APPLIED ALL OF MY WEIGHT TO IT, THE SPEED DID NOT DIMINISH AT ALL, I THEN TRIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THAT ALSO FAILED TO SLOW ME DOWN, MY FRIEND SUGGESTED THAT I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THEN TRY THE BRAKE, FORTUNATELY THAT WORKED AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT WAS ONE OF THE SCARIEST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE. YOUR PRODUCT PUT MY FRIEND'S AND MY LIFE IN JEOPARDY. I HAD THE BAS/ESP LIGHT COME ON IN THE PASS AND HAVE BROUGHT IT IN FOR REPAIRS 3 TIMES ALREADY: 07/27/2005, 12/01/2009 AND IN 10/19/2010. I AM STUNNED THAT A COMPANY WHO HAS SUCH A GREAT REPUTATION AND SEEMS TO THRIVE ON CUSTOMER SATISFACTION DROPPED THE BALL. AT NO POINT IN TIME DID ANY OF THE TECHNICIANS WHO PERFORMED THE REPAIRS ON MY CAR ADVISE ME OF THE POTENTIAL DANGER. *TR
DRIVING 2002 MERCEDES ML320. SMELLED BURNING. PULLED OVER AND CHECKED UNDER HOOD AND FOUND NO SMELL. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO THE CAR, I NOTICED A BURNED SPOT ON THE DRIVERS SEAT. CORRESPONDING BURN MARK WAS ON MY BACK LEFT PANT POCKET. I TURNED OF THE SEAT WARMER AND THE PROBLEM HAS STOPPED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND AN HOUR LATER, HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK AND THAT THERE ARE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 117,000.
2 OF MY TIRES DEVELOPED CRACKS IN THE SIDEWALL IN LESS THAN 24 MONTHS WITH PLENTY OF TREADLIFE LEFT ON THE THEM. *TR
2002 ML 320 FRONT BRAKES LOCKED UP BY THEMSELVES NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. BURNING SMELL DETECTED FROM FRONT WHEELS. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER WHO CLAIMED SENSORS HAD FAILED AND THAT THIS WAS A RARE PROBLEM; CONSUMER CHARGED TO REPLACE SENSORS. LESS THAN ONE MONTH LATER THE SAME THING OCCURRED, DEALER NOW STATES IT IS A PRESSURE ISSUE BUT WANTS TO KEEP VEHICLE OVERNIGHT TO DUPLICATE STATED PROBLEM. OWNER INITIALLY NOTICED THIS PROBLEM OVER 1 YEAR AGO, TAKING IT TO THE DEALER THINKING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS STICKING, CAUSING THE BURNING SMELL AND SLUGGISHNESS. DURING THAT VISIT THE DEALER STATED IT FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. OWNER PAID TO HAVE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS REPLACED DUE TO PITTING AND GROVING CAUSED BY THE FRONT BRAKES SELF-ENGAGING; THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE DEALER IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING A PRESSURE ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 24K MILES ON IT AND WAS PURCHASED FROM THE DEALER BRAND NEW. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 40-45 MPH WHEN I NOTICED AN ORANGE GLOW UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS THE LIGHT TURNED YELLOW, AND SUDDENLY I NOTICED FLAMES ARE SHOOTING OUT OF THE SIDE MIRROR ALONG WITH THICK BLACK SMOKE. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED INTO A GAS STATION AND PUT OFF THE FIRE WITH WATER HOSE. I WAS AFRAID OF THE FIRE TO GET INSIDE THE CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML320. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED UP TO 90 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL ALTHOUGH SHE WAS DEPRESSING THE BREAK PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ACCELERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL AND THE ELECTRIC KIT WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,367 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
MY CAR LOST ALL OF THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. I LOST ALMOST ALL STEERING CONTROL. IT IS RELATED TO MERCEDES BENZ RECALL #2003-040005. I RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT THIS RECALL AND IT SAID MY CAR HAD ALREADY BEEN FIXED. THEY SAID THAT IS WHAT THEIR RECORDS SHOW. THAT IS NOT TRUE AND NOW I ALMOST LOST MY LIFE BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT AND I AM QUITE UPSET. MY CAR IS COMPLETELY IMMOBILE. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ (MB) ML320. THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS DEPLETING ALL THE TIME FROM A LEAKAGE BETWEEN THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND THE HOSE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN MB DEALERSHIP IN GEORGETOWN, TX (GARLYN SHELTON MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP). THE REPAIR WAS UNDER RECALL, BUT THE DEALERSHIP STILL CHARGED ME $214.16. I TOLD THEM THE REPAIR WAS FOR A RECALL, BUT THEY WOULD NOT LET ME TAKE MY CAR WITHOUT PAYMENT, SO I PAID THEM TO HAVE MY CAR BACK. HOWEVER, I'D LIKE NHTSA TO COMPEL THEM OR MERCEDES BENZ TO REFUND ME BACK MY $214.16. I WROTE TO MB HEADQUARTERS IN NEW JERSEY AND THEY SILL REFUSED TO REFUND ME BACK MY MONEY. I HAVE A RECEIPT OF THE REPAIR THAT WAS DONE ON THE CAR AND THE COST THEY BILLED ME. I CAN SEND YOU THE LETTER I WROTE TO MB HEADQUARTERS AND THE REPAIR RECEIPT IF YOU CONTACT ME. I DID BUY MERCEDES SHOP MANUAL AND AS I WAS READING THE SERVICE BULLETINS ISSUED BY MERCEDES MANUFACTURER I FOUND THAT THE FACTORY IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE THE A/C SYSTEM SOMETIMES DOES NOT PRODUCE HEAT OR COOLED AIR. MERCEDES CONFORMED THAT CERTAIN CONTROL UNITS PART NUMBERS HAVE LOW VOLTAGE PROBLEMS WHICH CAUSES THIS AND THE WANT THE CAR OWNER TO REPLACE THE A/C CONTROL UNIT WITH THE UPDATED PART NUMBER 163 829 57 89 AT THE CAR OWNER EXPENSE BECAUSE AS THEY SAY IT IS NOT SAFETY ISSUE? WELL CAN THAT BE WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE HEAT IN THE VERY COLD / SNOW WEATHER AS WE HAVE HERE IN BOSTON? AS FAR AS I AM CONCERN THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN IT COMES TO HEATING THE WINDSHIELD IN THE BAD WINTER STATES. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF MY COMPLAIN MAKES CORRECT. *TR

THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP AT THE COST OF $525.22. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO A RECALL FIVE YEARS PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE. TEN DAYS LATER, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V121000 (STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS). HE CALLED THE DEALER AND STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP, IN WHICH HE PAID TO HAVE REPAIRED PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NO REIMBURSEMENT WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,752.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML320. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE O-RING BETWEEN THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND RESERVOIR FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE RECALL REPAIRS WOULD BE INEFFECTIVE WITHOUT ALSO REPLACING THE O-RING. THE DEALER FURTHER STATED THAT THE O-RING WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE RECALL; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY AN ESTIMATED COST OF $162 FOR THIS REPAIR. FOUND IDENTICAL PROBLEM PER NHTSA ACTION # EA08009 DEFECT INVESTIGATION. CONSTANT LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE. WARNING LIGHTS INDICATED LOW BRAKE FLUID. FOUND FLUID UNDER CAR AND IN FRONT LEFT WHEEL-WELL. UPON INSPECTION, FOUND BRAKE HARD LINE FROM MASTER CYLINDER WAS CHAFFED FROM ADJACENT FUEL LINE, CAUSING SMALL PIN-HOLE LEAK IN BRAKE LINE. WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BRAKE FLUID WOULD SPRAY OUT, RESULTING IN INSUFFICIENT BRAKING PRESSURE TO HOLD VEHICLE AT STOPS. CONTACTED MERCEDES DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THEY WERE UN-AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS. ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR WAS >$1000. ($112 FOR PART, $975 FOR 6HRS LABOR) PART NUMBER: A1634201526 PURCHASED LENGTH OF HARDLINE MYSELF AT PARTS STORE. CONSTRUCTED AND INSTALLED MY OWN REPLACEMENT PART FOR $155 INCLUDING PURCHASE OF TOOLS TO COMPLETE JOB. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML320. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 70 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LOCKED UP AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE INTO A MEDIAN. THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AT THE SAME TIME THE BRAKES LOCKED. THE CONTACT NEVER DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL NOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FOR THE BRAKES TO LOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE YAW RATE SENSOR FAILED. THE REPAIRS WERE SCHEDULED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 63,000. UPDATED 02/05/09 *BF THE BAS/ESP LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS CRACKED AND THE TRANSMISSION ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR WAS LEAKING.. UPDATED 02/06/09.*JB
VEHICLE'S DRIVE AUTHORIZATION SYSTEM FAILS TO RECOGNIZE KEY RESULTING IN A 'START ERROR' DISPLAYING ON DASH AND VEHICLE WILL NOT START. THIS ITEM CAN ONLY BE REPLACED BY THE DEALER AND IS A KNOWN DEFECT BY MERCEDES BENZ. THE DASH CONTROL UNIT IS PART # A163 545 28 32 AND IS REPLACED BY A MODIFIED VERSION A163 545 07 06. MERCEDES REQUIRES OWNERS TO BEAR FULL FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS REPAIR, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT WHICH CAN RESULT IN STALLS AND NO START SITUATION, POTENTIALLY PUTTING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS IN DANGER. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR IS APPROX. $800 TO $1000. A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BY MERCEDES BENZ AND THAT BULLETIN IS T-B-80.57/32 AND WAS ISSUED ON FEBRUARY 7, 2005. IT COVERS ALL M CLASS MODELS FROM 2000 TO 2005 MODEL YEAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML320. FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS, THE CONTACT HAS TAKEN HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH REPAIRED. WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FAILED, THE ESP AND ABS INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AND THE GEAR WOULD HAVE TO BE PLACED INTO PARK TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE THE WARNINGS. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED INTO PARK, IT WOULD NOT MOVE. THE BRAKES LIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE, WHICH IS A HAZARD TO THE VEHICLES IN THE REAR OF THE CONTACT. THE SWITCH HAS BEEN CHANGED AT LEAST EIGHT TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE STILL OCCURS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY SENT AN EMAIL TO THE MERCEDES BENZ MANUFACTURER AT LEAST TWICE, BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE REGIONAL MANAGER WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE, BUT THIS HAS NOT YET TAKEN PLACE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH SET SPEED IN CRUISE CONTROL AND STEPPED ON BRAKE AS I APPROACHED TRAFFIC CONGESTION. VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND CONTINUED TO MAINTAIN SET SPEED REGARDLESS HOW HARD I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE. EVENTUALLY, I DECIDED TO TRY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED BACK UNDER CONTROL OF THE FOOTBRAKE. THANKFULLY, THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWED DOWN WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT IT WAS A VERY SCARY MOMENT. NOTICED, AT THIS TIME, THE BAS/ESP MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP WAS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. DROVE VEHICLE DIRECTLY TO A MERCEDES DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. DEALER ADVISED STOP LAMP SWITCH SHORTED. REPLACED LAMP SWITCH. ALTHOUGH, THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL THE VEHICLE DID HAVE SIMILAR PAST PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM (IE-BRAKE SWITCH AND SHIFTER CONTROL MODULE WERE REPLACED) THAT PREVENTED SHIFTING OUT OF PARK INTO ANY OTHER POSITION. VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE SAFETY DEVICE TO OVERRIDE "CRUISE CONTROL" OR PREVENT "CRUISE CONTROL" OPERATION WITH ANY MALFUNCTION IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM OR ACTIVATION OF THE BRAKING INDICATOR LAMP. WHAT ASSURANCES ARE THERE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN? *TR
ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2008, WHILE DRIVING TO WORK MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. WHEN I LEFT WORK, I NOTICED THAT MOST OF THE STEERING FLUID HAD LEAKED OUT OF MY VEHICLE. THEN ON THURSDAY, A CO WORKER CONTACTED ME AND TOLD ME THAT SHE SAW A RECALL ON THE NEWS ABOUT THE STEERING ON MERCEDES SUV. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE A RECALL IN THEIR SYSTEM FOR MY AUTO AND IT WOULD COST ME $110 TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSIS MY VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE 800# THAT WAS ON THE NEWS AND WAS TOLD THAT SOMEONE WILL GET BACK WITH ME. IN THE MEANTIME, I AM A RECENT SINGLE PARENT WITH A 14 YEAR CHILD THAT I TRANSPORT IN A VEHICLE THAT I HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME TO STEER. *TR
THIS CAR HAS BEEN INTO SERVICE OV 27 TIME IN THE LAST 2 1/2 YEARS REGARDING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM/ ALL OF THE LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD TURN ON. MY LASTEST ISSUE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY MY CAR JUST COMPLETELY TURN OFF ON ME WILL ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN I TURNED THE KEY AGAIN THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THIS CAR HAS BEEN FIX NUMEROUS TIMES BUT THE PROBLEM COMES BACK. *TR
THE EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS ON OUR MERCEDES ML 320E HAVE BECOME VERY CLOUDY AND ROUGH TO THE TOUCH. THIS IS NOW A PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY DO NOT EMIT ENOUGH LIGHT TO SAFELY DRIVE AT NIGHT. *TR
IN MARCH OF 2003 MERCEDES INITIATED A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING HOSE, THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICING AND THE PROBLEM SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. ON APRIL 2ND OF 2008 I TOOK THE CAR TO MERCEDES BECAUSE IT WAS MAKING A REALLY LOUD SOUND I WAS TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS LEAKING A $665 FIX. I HAD THE WORK DONE. ON APRIL 15TH OF 2008 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TOOK THE CAR BACK TO MERCEDES AND WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED A $1211 FIX. I WAS FURIOUS AT THIS POINT. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2008 THE NHTSA ISSUED A RECALL ON THE MODEL FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE CLAMP FOR THE POWER STEERING HOSE. I CONTACTED MERCEDES WHEN I BECAME AWARE OF THIS RECALL EARLIER THIS WEEK. I WAS TOLD THAT THE HOSE THAT WAS REPLACED ON MY CAR'S POWER STEERING SYSTEM IS NOT THE ONE BEING RECALLED. I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL BECAUSE MY CAR'S VIN NUMBER WAS NOT A PART OF THE SPECIFIC CARS THAT WERE RECALLED EVEN THOUGH IT WAS INCLUDED IN THE 2003 RECALL. I ARGUED THAT MY POWER STEERING PUMP WENT BAD BECAUSE OF MERCEDES NEGLIGENCE WITH THE HOSE ISSUE AND I HAVE GOTTEN NOWHERE WITH THEM. THE DEALER WILL NOT HELP ME AND MB USA WILL NOT HELP ME BECAUSE MY VIN IS NOT ON THAT RECALL EVEN THOUGH I AM STILL HAVING THE ISSUE AND YES MY CAR IS STILL LEAKING FLUID ALL OVER MY GARAGE. *TR
RECALL CAMPAIGN # 2003-040005 - MERCEDES BENZ ML 320 RECALL OF POWER STEERING CLAMP. ITEM WAS REPLACED BY INDEPENDENT DEALER IN VIRGINIA AND THE CHARGE WAS COMPLETED FOR THE SERVICE RENDERED. RECALL NOTICE CAME IN THE MAIL 3 DAYS LATER, AND INDEPENDENT DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO REFUND ANY OR ALL OF THE SERVICE COST. INFORMATION RECEIVED CLAIMS THAT MERCEDES IS RESPONSIBLE FOR REFUND NOW. COST FOR PART AND SERVICE WAS $133.57. LOOKING FOR REFUND, WORK IS COMPLETE AND VEHICLE RUNS FINE. *TR
LOWER POWER STEERING HOSE CLAMP HAD RELEASED AND ALLOWED THE POWER STEERING FLUID TO DISCHARGE TO THE GROUND. THIS LOSS OF FLUID DISABLED THE POWER STEERING RENDERING THE CAR ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL WITHOUT STRONG STEERING INPUT. MY WIFE HAD TO CALL FOR ME TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. THE HOSE FAILED UPON STARTUP, THUS PREVENTING AN ACCIDENT. THE UNIT WAS REPAIRED AT NO COST UNDER BULLETIN #T-B.46.30/13A. THIS BULLETIN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES FOR THIS PART. HOWEVER, THIS TYPE OF FAILURE MODE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND A CRASH. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML320. WHILE MAKING A TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DRIVER HAD TO EXERT GREATER EFFORT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR FILLED BECAUSE IT WAS EXTREMELY LOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V-121. THE POWER STEERING COOLER HOSE AND ONE CLAMP WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. RECENTLY, THE FUEL PUMP HOSE AND CLAMPS WERE REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED THAT THE FUEL PUMP BE REPLACED. THE VIN AND MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.

THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED IN SACRAMENTO CA IN AUG OF 06, AT THIS TIME WE ALSO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED 2 YEAR WARRANTY WHICH WE UNDERSTOOD TO BE EXPIRING IN AUG OF 08. THE CAR WORKED FINE WITH NO ISSUES UNTIL SEPT OF 07. I STARTED THE CAR AT 4 AM TO HEAD TO WORK AND IT MAKE A REALLY LOUD NOISE, IT GOT WORSE WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. I CONTACTED THE MB DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP. I EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT NOT WANTING TO DRIVE THE CAR MAKING THAT SOUND, HE ASSURED ME THAT IT WAS FINE. I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT JUST NEEDED POWER STEERING FLUID SO THEY WILL TOP IT OFF FOR ME AT NO CHARGE AND IT WILL BE FINE. TOOK MY CAR AND LEFT. TWO MONTHS LATER ON NOV1ST, SAME ISSUE, TOOK THE CAR IN AGAIN, WAS TOLD WE WILL JUST TOP IT OFF FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE, TOOK MY CAR AND LEFT AGAIN. ON APR 5TH 08 THE NOISE CAME BACK, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD WE WOULD JUST TOP IT OFF FOR YOU BUT WE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE SOME LEAKS SO YOU MAY WANT TO BRING IT IN TO GET THAT CHECKED OUT. I DID THIS 2 DAYS LATER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE POWER STEERING HOSE AN $800 FIX THAT WAS NOT COVERED BY MY WARRANTY. I HAD THE WORK DONE. ON APR 20TH MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO PAY AGAIN FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TO BE DONE, EVEN THOUGH ONE WAS SUPPOSEDLY DONE 2 WEEKS PRIOR. NOW IT WAS THE POWER STEERING PUMP AT A $1400 FIX. I WAS PISSED. HOW DID THEY MISS THIS 2 WEEKS PRIOR? HOW DID I EVEN KNOW IT WAS THE HOSE AT FIRST AND NOT THE PUMP? HOW WAS THIS FOUND CONVENIENTLY AFTER MY WARRANTY IS NO GOOD WHEN THE NOISE WAS THERE BEFORE? A COMPLIMENTARY DIAGNOSTIC WAS DONE BY THE SERVICE MGR ON AUG 29TH AND NOW I AM BEING ASKED TO PAY $2100 FOR FIX THE PROBLEMS FOUND. THE WARRANTY SHOULD BE HONORED. *TR

DRIVING ON RT 30 IN CAMDEN NJ WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED (I WAS TRAVELING AT 50MPH AND VEHICLE SPED UP TO ABOUT 80 AND I COULD NOT STOP IT). I HAD TO PUT EMERGENCY BRAKES AND ULTIMATELY PUT VEHICLE INTO PARK TO GET IT TO STOP. NOTHING IN VEHICLE CAUSED VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE AND VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND NEARLY CAUSED ME TO DRIVE INTO TRAFFIC. MERCEDES DENIES HAVING ANY PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLES AND BLAMED ME FOR OPERATION. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD AS A POLICE OFFICER FOR 14 YEARS AND KNOW THAT IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH VEHICLE THAT CAUSED THIS PROBLEM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML320. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER LOCKS HAVE FAILED IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, ALL OF THE DOORS ARE SUPPOSED TO LOCK AUTOMATICALLY. THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR HAS FAILED AND IS PREVENTING THE OTHER LOCKS FROM OPERATING PROPERLY. THE DOOR LOCKS CONSTANTLY LOCK AND UNLOCK AUTOMATICALLY EACH TIME THE VEHICLE STOPS AND ACCELERATES. THE FAILURE WAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 47,140 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
WHILE DRIVING, ML500 BEGAN TO BRAKE RANDOMLY . ALSO ABS TURNED ON WHILE STOPPING AND ACCELERATING. ALSO BRAKES WERE CONSTANTLY SCREECHING. WARNING LIGHTS FOR ABS, BAS, AND WASHER FLUID. FLUID LEVEL WAS FINE. I TOLD DEALER ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTICS TEST AND FOUND NOTHING WAS WRONG. THEY ADVISED ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN SHOULD THE SAME EVENTS OCCUR. (THE RANDOM BREAKING BEGAN TO OCCUR AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED). THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO PERSIST AND WITH THE FAILURE OF ABS SYSTEM, I BROUGHT THE ML500 BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER. AFTER TWO DAYS, I RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE AND THE COST TO REPAIR WAS $1100.00. "CONVENIENTLY" THEY FOUND THE SAME PROBLEMS I SPOKE OF BEFORE AFTER THE WARRANTY WAS UP. WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY TO RESTORE FUNCTION TO THE VEHICLE. AFTER TAKING IT HOME WE NOTICED THAT THE THERE WAS NO SOUND IN THE VEHICLE. THE SOUND AND NAVIGATION VOICE WORKED PERFECTLY BEFORE GETTING SERVICE. AND AFTERWARDS IT DID NOT. WE CALLED THE SERVICE CENTER, AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT BACK AT OUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE, AND THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. I ASSUME THAT THIS WAS A MISTAKE ON THEIR PART. WHEN I RETURNED TO RESTORE THE SOUND THEY APPROACHED ME AND TOLD ME THAT A "VOICE MODULATION UNIT" BENEATH THE DRIVER'S SEAT HAD GONE OUT, AND THAT IT WOULD COST $750.00 PARTS AND LABOR TO REPAIR. THEY TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO ME THAT THIS WAS JUST A COINCIDENCE, AND THAT THE UNIT WAS IN NO WAY RELATED OR CIRCUIT LINKED TO THE SENSORS THEY REPLACED. I BELIEVE THAT THEY MUST HAVE MISTAKENLY SHORTED IT. WE HAVE SPENT ALMOST $10,000.00 IN THE PAST YEAR FOR REPAIRS TO THIS VEHICLE AND ONE OTHER MERCEDES. THEY DID NOT GOOD WILL CREDIT THE WORK SO I DID NOT ACCEPT THE REPAIR SERVICE. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A $750.00 COINCIDENCE. THE SOUND WORKED FOR ALMOST 80,000 MILES BEFORE SERVICE AND NOW RIGHT AFTER IT FAILED... I DON'T THINK SO. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT A PARKING LOT FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 HRS. I ATTEMPTED TO START THE ENGINE. IT STARTED THEN ABRUPTLY STOPPED. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. UPON THE 4TH ATTEMPT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I LOOKED AT THE DASH LIGHTS THE COMPUTER WAS SHOWING ERROR START. I PROCEEDED TO JIGGLE THE KEY AND EVEN USED THE SECOND MASTER KEY. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I TALKED WITH MB ROADSIDE SERVICE THEY SUGGESTED CLEANING THE KEY, JIGGLING THE RING AROUND THE IGNITION KEY AREA. NOTHING WORKED. AFTER 2 HOURS OF ATTEMPTS, I HAD THE ML TOWED BY FLAT BED TRUCK TO THE NEAREST MB DEALERSHIP. EVERY SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE ( 2002) I HAVE COMPLAINED ON AT LEAST 3 OCCASIONS EVERY YEAR, THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT TIMES AND I WOULD JIGGLE THE KEY AND KEEP TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES. IN THE PAST IT FINALLY MANAGED TO START. WHEN I WOULD REPORT THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY WOULD STATE THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO UNTIL IT ACTUALLY WAS DOING THE SAME THING WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THEM. I KNOW THERE IS SOME PART THAT HAS BEEN DEFECTIVE FROM DAY 1 AFTER WE PURCHASED THE CAR. THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP HAD THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS. THEY FOUND A FAULTY TRANSPONDER RING AND ALSO ADVISED ME THAT MY SECOND MASTER KEY WOULD NOT COORDINATE WITH THE COMPUTER AND THE NEW TRANSPONDER RING. IT READS ERROR START. JUST LIKE IT WAS DOING WHEN I HAD IT TOWED. I HAVE THE MERCEDES RETURNED TO ME 6 DAYS AND I GET IN THE CAR AND THE GEARS ARE LOCKED. I TURN THE ENGINE ON AND OFF FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE I CAN GET THE GEAR TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. I CALLED THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP. THEY WANT ME TO BRING IT BACK TOMORROW FOR THEM TO CHECK SOME SWITCH COMPONENT WHICH MAY BE DEFECTIVE. THIS ML 500 ONLY HAS 51,806 MILES ON IT. HOWEVER, I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DEPENDING ON IT. I AM AFRAID I WILL BE OUT SOMEWHERE AT NIGHT OR IN AN ISOLATED AREA AND THIS ML 500 WILL NOT START OR THE GEAR BOX WILL BE LOCKED UP. *TR
ODOMETER FAILURE. CALLED EXPECTING WARRANTY WAS 8 YEARS 80000 MILES TO BE TOLD WAS NOT COVERED AT DEALERSHIP. WONDERED WHY SOME CARS WERE COVERED WITH UNLIMITED MILEAGE WHICH MAKES SENSE BECAUSE ODOMETER IS VIAL INFORMATION FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. TL* - THE CONTACT CALLED TO REPORT THAT THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT SAYS THAT THE AIRBAG IS OFF IN HER 2002 MERCEDES M CLASS. THERE IS A LIGHT NEXT TO THE AIRBAG THAT SAYS SRS WHICH IS ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60-65 MPH WHEN THE CONTACT WAS ADJUSTED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT DEPLOYED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS ON HOT, HUMID DAYS WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON, THE SIDE WINDOWS AND REARVIEW MIRROR FOGGED UP CAUSING LIMITED VISIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE OF THE VEHICLE WINDOWS AND REARVIEW MIRRORS IN HUMID CONDITIONS WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED.
I PURCHASED A USED 2002 ML320. ONCE THE VEHICLE CAME OF THE LOT IT WAS FINE IN THE BEGINNING; HOWEVER, THE BAS/ESP CONTINUES TO COME ON EVERY TWO TO THREE MONTHS. THIS PREVENTS ME FROM MOVING THE GEAR SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE ALSO THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING (ON OR OFF WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PAD)AND WHEN IT DOES COME ON WHEN I AM DRIVING AT NIGHT OTHER DRIVERS CANNOT SEE ANY BRAKE LIGHTS AT ALL WHICH PUTS MY FAMILY AND I IN A SAFETY SITUATION OR SAFETY HAZARD WHICH HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES WHILE DRIVING. AT FIRST, I TOOK IT TO NAPA ON METRO PARKWAY IN FORT MYERS WHICH THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND THEN TWO MONTHS TO THREE MONTHS LATER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK FOR THE SAME SITUATION. THEY REPLACED THE SWITCH AND SAID THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH THEY RECEIVED WAS FROM MERCEDES BENZ. IN THE SPRING 2007 THE SAME SITUATION OCCURRED AND TOOK IT TO MERCEDES BENZ OF FORT MYERS AND THEY ALSO REPLACED THE SWITCH AS WELL. HOWEVER, MERCEDES OF FORT MYERS CHANGED AND FOLLOWED ORDERS FROM CORPORATE ON WHAT TO DO BUT TO NO AVAIL. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE THE PURCHASED OF THE ML320. CURRENTLY, OCTOBER 1, 2009 THE VEHICLE IS AT MERCEDES AT FORT MYERS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. MY WIFE AND I HAVE CONTACTED MERCEDES CUSTOMER COMPLAINT WITH THIS ISSUE BUT WE FEEL ENOUGH IS NOT BEING DONE TO RESOLVE. THE SITUATION BEGAN IN THE MONTH OF DECEMBER 9, 2006 AND CONTINUES PRESENTLY WHICH I HAVE INDICATED. OTHER DRIVERS CAME CLOSE TO CRASHING INTO ME DUE TO NO BRAKES LIGHTS. THE CAUSE OF DAMAGE WAS FAULTY ASSEMBLY OF THE PINS/PLUGS IN THE GEARS, WHICH RESULTED IN THE PARTS BECOMING LOOSE AND BREAKING THE TEETH, WHICH CAUSED EXCESSIVE NOISE AND LOSS OF POWER, ULTIMATELY THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE ON ALL FOUR WHEELS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF APOLLA HIGH SCHOOL DURING SCHOOL HOURS. MERCEDES SAYS MASTER CYLINDER FAILED. *JB
I OWN A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML500. A WEEK AGO I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE. AS I WAS ACCELERATING THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED (THE GAS PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR) AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE CAR DESPITE FULLY DEPRESSING THE BREAK PEDAL. THE CAR REACHED 80+ MPH AND I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE OFF OF THE ROAD TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT (I WAS ABLE TO SLOW IT TO ABOUT 50 MPH BY FULLY DEPRESSING THE BREAK PEDAL). I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL (IT HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION; WHEN I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY DECELERATED). OVER THE NEXT 40 MILES I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION 10+ TIMES. THIS OCCURRED BOTH WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING AND WHILE I WAS BRAKING. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN IN MY SUBDIVISION THE CAR ACCELERATED AND DROVE THROUGH THE STOP SIGN. I PARKED THE CAR IN MY GARAGE AND CALLED MY MB DEALER. I ASKED TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO THIS. I EXPLAINED THE ISSUE TO THEM AND THEY SEEMED UNCONCERNED. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR AGAIN SINCE THIS OCCURRED (I WILL NOT EVER DRIVE IT AGAIN). *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML320. A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED DASHBOARD FAILURE. THE HAZARD LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING ON AND OFF. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED A DEFECT IN THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENT. THEY REPLACED A FUSE, WHICH CORRECTED THE FAILURE FOR APPROXIMATELY A MONTH, BUT THE FAILURE EVENTUALLY RECURRED. WHEN ALL OF THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN, THEY REMAINED LIT AND LOCKED THE GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND EVEN STALLED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. THE CONTACT HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AT LEAST ONCE PER MONTH AND THEY REPLACED THE FUSE EACH TIME, OR ATTEMPTED TO REPROGRAM THE SYSTEM; HOWEVER, THE REMEDY WAS NEVER PERMANENT. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCEDES BENZ ML320. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WHEN DEPRESSED. THE DEALER STATED THAT A BLOWN FUSE CAUSED THE FAILURE AND THEY MADE THE REPLACEMENT. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER BLOWN FUSE AND MADE THE REPLACEMENT AGAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 27 TIMES FOR THE SAME FAILURE, BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. AS OF AUGUST 4, 2008, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTING. MOST IMPORTANTLY THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL CONTINUALLY GOES OUT WITHOUT NOTICE. SOMETIME THE INTERIOR LEFT TURN LIGHTS UP AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. OTHER TIMES THE INTERIOR LEFT TURN LIGHT GOES COMPLETELY OUT PLACING ME AND MY CHILDREN IN GREAT DANGER. ALSO I MADE A LEFT TURN AND THE STEERING WENT OUT JUST AS I ENTERED THE BELTWAY AND WAS UNABLE STEER THE VEHICLE. *NM

THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY ELEVEN TIMES. THE DEALER CONTINUED TO REPLACE THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH INSTEAD OF RE-ENGINEERING THE PART AND ISSUING A RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD DRIVING WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN SEVEN TIMES FOR SERVICE ON THE BRAKE ASSISTANCE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, SHUT OFF, AND RESTARTED LATER, THE GEARSHIFT BECAME STUCK IN THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, AND THE DEALER TEMPORARILY REPAIRED BOTH ISSUES. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE TWO PROBLEMS WERE RELATED.*AK
I HAVE A 2002 MERCEDES ML320. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HEATER WAS ON, IT STARTED TO SMOKE, WAS VERY HOT IN ONE SPOT, ALMOST TO THE POINT OF MELTING THE LEATHER. THE HEATER HAD ONLY BEEN ON FOR LESS THAN 10 MINUTES. COULD ALSO FEEL AN ELECTRICAL PULSING, LIKE A CURRENT AT THE SIGHT.WE PARKED THE CAR OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT, FOR FEAR OF IT STARTING ON FIRE. CONTACTED BLACK FOREST MOTORS THE NEXT DAY, THEY SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT WE COULD ORDER A NEW SEAT AT OUR COST. THIS TOOK PLACE ON 1-27-05.
