TL- THE CONTACT STATED 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE08066 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING) HAD EXCEEDED THE REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DELAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD MENTION HE HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE ON MULTIPLE OCCASION. HE STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS SPONTANEOUSLY BOTH FRONT AND REAR TAIL LIGHTS FAIL TO ILLUMINATE. THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING IN THE EVENING ON AN UNLIT ROAD WITH MY 10YR OLD IN THE CAR MY HEADLIGHTS JUST WENT OUT. THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PULL OVER AND WE CAME WITHIN INCHES OF ENDING UP IN A RAVINE. I HAVE READ YOUR NHTSA REPORT ON THE ISSUES WITH FORD LCMS AND I FIND IT RIDICULOUS THAT THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS PART THAT FORD KNOWS WILL GO BAD AND STILL THERE IS NO RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED WHENEVER THE AIR CONDITIONER MECHANISM WAS ACTIVATED THE AIR FAILED TO FLOW THROUGH THE VENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN AN INTERSTATE FREEWAY AT 65MPH AND CAME TO A CURVE, THE STEERING WAS VERY TIGHT AND WAS UNABLE TO KEEP THE CAR IN MY LANE. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE NEXT TO ME AT THE TIME. FROM THAT TIME ON THE STEERING KEPT GETTING TIGHTER AND TIGHTER. I HAD TO USE BODILY FORCE TO PHYSICALLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THE ISSUE WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY STEERING SHAFT JOINTS. I HAD TO HAVE THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT REPLACED. I WAS INFORMED THAT 2005- 2011 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE. AS OF WRITING THIS 2004 GRAND MARQUIS ARE NOT INCLUDED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER. I BELIEVE FORD/MERCURY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THIS REPAIR. *TR
THIS MERCURY ALONG WITH COUNTLESS OTHERS HAS THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AS YOU DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD. IF THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS. I HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND WAIT TILL THEY COME BACK ON. I CALLED MY LINCOLN DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS $107/HOUR TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. IF IT IS THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE AS IT RUMORED TO BE THE BAD PART, THE COST IS ANOTHER $800. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED. *TT
I HAVE ESCAPED QUITE A FEW ACCIDENTS ON MY WAY HOME. WITH THE NEW TIME CHANGE, I LEAVE WORK RIGHT AT DUSK. THE LIGHTS WILL NOT COME ON. I LIVE WAY OUT IN THE COUNTRY AND HAVE TO DRIVE 15 MILES OUT. I HAVE TO SWITCH TO MY HIGH BEAM WHEN A CAR IS COMING MY WAY, AND I BLIND IT AND OTHER CARS AS WELL. I AM SOOOO TIRED OF THIS. I AM GOING TO CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT !!!! THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE PARTS WOULD ARRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED HEADLIGHT FAILURE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS NOT FOUND. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE CONTACT HAD A MECHANIC REPLACE THE WIPER MOTOR TWICE BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. I WAS TRAVELING FROM MEMPHIS TN. BACK HOME TO JONESBORO AR. AND THE LIGHTS JUST STOP WORKING IT WAS ABOUT 9:30 AT NIGHT ON EXPRESSWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN NO LIGHTS AND THEY DIDN'T COME BACK ON THE HEADLIGHTS AND I HAD TO PULL THE FLASH TO PASS FOWARD AND HOLD JUST TO HAVE LIGHTS THE WHOLE TRIP HOME HOLDING IT AND HAVING TO DRIVE WITH OTHER HAND DIFFICULT. MY LIGHT CONTROL MODULE HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY THE LOCAL DEALER TO BE DEFECTIVE. I'VE BEEN TOLD IT IS ON BACK ORDER W/ NO ETA. I'VE SINCE BEEN TOLD THE NHTSA HAS INEXPLICABLY FOUND THIS TO "NOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE". WE WERE DRIVING ON RTE 202 IN CHALFONT, PA AND TURNED ONTO RTE 152 HEADING SOUTH. WHILE DRIVING ALONG AN UNLIT PART OF THE ROAD, THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. THE SWITCH WAS NOT WORKING TO TURN ON OR OFF. I WENT OFF THE ROAD BUT WAS ABLE TO RECOVER SAFELY. I TURNED THE CAR AROUND AND HEADED HOME. LIGHTS CAME ON AND OFF AGAIN IN ABOUT 3 MINUTES. LIGHTS CONTINUE TO GO OFF RANDOMLY WHEN CAR IS DRIVEN AT NIGHT TIME. *TR
2004 GRAND MARQUIS LS, WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF ON THERE OWN THEN COME BACK ON 5-10 MINUTES LATER THEN SHUT OFF AGAIN A SHORT WHILE LATER. MY HEADLIGHTS ARE NORMALLY POSITIONED IN THE AUTO LAMP MODE, IT WAS NO HELP TO TURN LIGHT OFF AND TRY IN THE MANUAL MODE THEY JUST CAME BACK ON WHEN IT FELT LIKE IT. IN SIDE DASH LIGHTS AND OUTSIDE PARKING/DRIVING LIGHTS WORKED NORMALLY, EMERGENCY FLASHERS WORKED NORMALLY. IN THE LATEST OCCURRENCE (12/17/2013) MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT 5 TIMES IN A 13.5 MILE DRIVE HOME . THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AT ONCE. *TR
I LEFT THE HOUSE AFTER DARK TO PICK UP MY HUSBAND FROM WORK. WHEN I GOT TO HIS JOB I TURNED THE CAR OFF BECAUSE I WAS EARLY. WHEN HE GOT TO THE CAR AND I RESTARTED IT THE HEADLIGHTS DID NOT COME ON. THEY CAME BACK ON AFTER I USED THE TURN SIGNAL ABOUT 2 MINUTES LATER. AFTER THAT WE NOTICE THAT OCCASIONALLY THE LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT BUT WOULD COME BACK ON AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES. UNTIL ONE NIGHT WHEN THEY STOP WORKING ALTOGETHER. IT STAYED THAT WAY TILL WE TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INFORMED US THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF IT HAPPENING TO OTHER CARS BUT THE PIECE THAT WE NEEDED WAS ON BACK ORDER AND WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR ONE AND A HALF MONTHS. WHILE WE WERE WAITING THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE HEADLIGHTS WHILE DRIVING WAS TO HOLD THE HIGH BEAMS STICK BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T EVEN WORK IF YOU PUSHED THE HIGH BEAMS TO THE ALWAYS ON POSITION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF SUDDENLY. THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET LIGHTS WAS BY HOLDING THE DIMMER SWITCH TOWARD ME ON BRIGHT. THEN IT WOULD SUDDENLY CLICK BACK ON AND THEN GO OFF AGAIN. IT WAS VERY SCARY. AFTER LOOKING THIS UP ON THE INTERNET THIS SAME SAFETY ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
THE POWER STEERING DID NOT FEEL RIGHT TO ME SO I TOOK IT TO TRIANGLE SERVICE CENTER, 177 BOSTON RD, CHELMSFORD. THEY INSPECTED THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM AND THE INTERMEDIATE (LOWER) SHAFT WAS BINDING AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THE FORD RECALL FOR 2005-2011 FORD VEHICLES, I CAN NOT GET PARTS. I CALLED FORD AND WENT TO THE DRUM HILL DEALERSHIP IN LOWELL BUT SINCE THE 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS ARE NOT IN THE RECALL, I HAVE NO RECOURSE. THIS IS THE SAME PART THAT NHTSA INVESTIGATED AND CALLED FOR A RECALL ON THE 2005-2011 FORD VEHICLES. I BELIEVE THE 2004 VEHICLES SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AS IT IS THE SAME PART IN THE POWER STEERING SHAFT THAT HAS FAILED IN THE 2004 THAT FAILS IN THE 2005-2011 MODELS.

I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 55 WHEN I NOTICED MY HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT REFLECTING OFF THE ROAD SIGNS. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED MY LIGHTS AND NOTICED I ONLY HAD PARKING LIGHTS NOT HEADLIGHTS AT ALL. I GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND TRIED THE LIGHT SWITCH BUT NOTHING CAME ON. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AND WAS TOLD THE LCM LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE HAS FAILED. AT A COST OF 400 DOLLARS. SAFETY HAZARD FORD KNOWS ABOUT BUT IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AT NIGHT, MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT UNEXPECTEDLY. THEY WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON, EITHER IN THE AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL "ON" SETTING. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. SOMETIMES THE LIGHTS WORK, BUT THEN WILL TURN OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE MANY, MANY, OTHER COMPLAINTS EXACTLY THE SAME AS MINE, WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL CAR. TO ME, THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. CAN YOU IMAGINE THIS HAPPENING AT NIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY IN A SNOWSTORM? THE FAULTY PART SEEMS TO BE THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE, WHICH IN MY AREA COSTS $551.78, AND LABOR IS ABOUT $90. *TR
SEVERE STEERING PROBLEM. NOISE IN STEERING COLUMN, CLUNKING SOUND. WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT WHEEL LOCKS UP AND DOES NOT RETURN TO CENTER UNLESS PULLED HARD. CALLED NHTSA ON12/19/14. WAS GIVEN COMPLAINT #10667316. I WAS TOLD I WOULD RECEIVE PAPERWORK IN MAIL, SIGN & RETURN. NEVER RECEIVED PAPERWORK. ALSO CALLED FORD ON SAME DAY 12/19/14. SPOKE TO DONNA. SHE GAVE ME CASE# 5719627 NEVER HEARD FROM FORD EITHER. VERY DANGEROUS. ONE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS RACK & PINION. PAID $700. TO HAVE IT REPLACED. SAME PROBLEM

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT DISCLOSE THAT THE PART WAS MODIFIED FROM PLASTIC TO METAL. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE LEAKS BEFORE THE PART WAS MODIFIED TO METAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

I WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE MY OFFICE AT DARK, STARTED MY CAR AND HEADLIGHTS DID NOT COME ON, EVERYTHING ELSE WAS WORKING. IT IS NOW APRIL 10, 2014. I WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON ROUTE 95 FROM BALTIMORE TO WASHINGTON AT NIGHT. WHILE DRIVING, MY HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT OUT. I NORMALLY KEEP THE HEADLIGHTS SET ON THE AUTOMATIC MODE. WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, I TURNED THE HEADLIGHT DIAL ON THE DASH TO EACH OF THE POSITIONS WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO REILLUMINATE THE HEADLIGHTS. I NOTICED THAT WHEN I PULLED THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER TOWARDS ME, THE HIGH-BEAMS WOULD GO ON, BUT THEY WOULD NOT GO ON WHEN THE LEVER WAS PUSHED AWAY FROM ME TO KEEP THE HIGH BEAMS ON WHILE FREEING MY HANDS. I THEREFORE HAD TO DRIVE FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES WHILE KEEPING THE HIGHBEAMS ACTIVATED WITH MY LEFT HAND. THIS POSED PROBLEMS WHEN I NEEDED TO TURN THE WHEEL. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, JERRY'S FORD IN ANNANDALE, VIRGINIA. EVEN THOUGH I KEPT THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR SEVERAL DAYS, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS WERE PROPERLY FUNCTIONING. THE PROBLEM RECURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON I-95, HEADED TO NEW YORK, ON OCTOBER 6. AT THAT TIME I LOST THE HEADLIGHTS AND THEY REMAINED OUT FOR WELL OVER ONE HOUR, REQUIRING ME TO KEEP THE HIGH BEAMS ACTIVATED WITH MY LEFT HAND WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM ON NEARLY A DAILY BASIS. I MAKE SHORT TRIPS TO THE GROCERY STORE, LESS THAN A MILE FROM MY HOUSE, AT NIGHT, AND INVARIABLY LOSE THE HEADLIGHTS WHILE DRIVING HOME. ONE TIME I WAS ABLE TO RESTORE THE HEADLIGHTS BY TURNING THE DIAL ON THE DASH TO THE MANUAL POSITION (FAR RIGHT). AT OTHER TIMES, THIS DOES NOT WORK. *TR

THE ONLY WAY WE WERE ABLE TO SAFELY GET OFF HIGHWAY WAS HOLDING BRIGHT LITE SWITCH FORWARD. THIS ISSUE HAS MADE RECALLS OF "CERTAIN MODELS AND CERTAIN,BUT NOT MINE??? WHY AREN'T MARQUIS AND CROWN VIC ,THAT ARE"OUTSIDE" THE RECALL CAR LIST,THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM INCLUDED???IS IT BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE INJURED OR DIED?? SO I'M STUCK WITH A CAR I CAN ONLY DRIVE DURING THE DAY !!! WTH? I LIVE ON DISABILITY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A THOUSAND DOLLAR REPAIR... WHY WOULDN'T MERCURY CONSIDER CARS "OUTSIDE" THE RECALL YEARS BE TREATED LIKE THEY WERE PART OF THE RECALL,SINCE ALL THE SYMPTOMS ARE THE SAME?? THE DEALER MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS TRYING TO RIP HIM OFF OR SCAM HIM. THE HEADLIGHTS CUT OFF AND BACK ON AT THEIR DISCRETION.. I DON'T FELL SAFE DRIVING MY, FAIRLY LOW MILEAGE CAR(WELL MAINTAINED).DON'T BELIEVE I'LL BE DRIVING FORD PRODUCTS AFTER THIS. WHILE DRIVING HOME WITH MY WIFE AND GRANDDAUGHTER MY WIPERS STARTED TO GO ON IN DELAY MOOD AND MY LIGHTS TURNED ON.I WAS SHOCKED AT THIS BECAUSE MY WIPER SWITCH WAS IN THE OFF SETTING AND MY LIGHT SWITCH WAS IN AUTO SETTING AND IT WAS A BRIGHT SUNNY DAY.AFTER ABOUT TEN OR 15 MINUTES THE WIPERS STOPPED AND LIGHTS WENT OUT.A FEW DAY LATER I WAS GOING TO THE STORE AND IT STARTED ALL OVER WIPERS STAYING ON IN THE DELAY MOOD AND THIS TIME DID NOT STOP.I CALL MY BROTHER IN FLORIDA WHOM IS A AUTO TECH AND HE TOLD ME THAT IT SEEMED LIKE THE MULTIFUCTION SWITCH AND TOLD ME TO CHANGE IT OUT WHICH I DID.IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE AND THE CAR REMAINS DOWN DUE TO THIS ISSUE.THERE IS ONLY 42300 ON THIS CAR WHICH MY FATHER GAVE ME AS A GIFT AND HE BOUGHT IT NEW FROM LEOMINSTER LINCOLN MECURY AND I FEEL THIS ISSUE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WHICH COULD LEAD TO COMPLETE WIPER FAILING OR WORSE A CAR FIRE FROM SOME DEFECTIVE SYSTEM THAT CONTROLS THIS WIPER SYSTEM.CAR REMAINS DOWN AS OF THE WRITING OF THIS REPORT.DUE TO MYSELF BEING DISABLED AND ON S/S DISABILITY I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I FEEL A DEALER SERVICE TECH SHOULD TAKE THIS ISSUE FROM HERE.I HAVE DISCONECTED THE BATTEY AND THE CAR NOW SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY.
SINCE AUGUST 2013, EVERY TIME I TURNED ON MY SIGNAL LIGHT, THE INTERMITTENT SOUND FOR THE SIGNAL WOULD CLICK FASTER THAN USUAL INDICATING THAT A LIGHT MIGHT BE BAD. I WOULD CHECK ALL THE LIGHTS AROUND THE VEHICLE AND THEY WERE ALL GOOD. THEN GOING ABOUT 55 ON A HIGHWAY AT NIGHT, I NOTICED THAT IT WAS REALLY DARK IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. PULLED OVER AND FOUND THAT I WAS DRIVING WITHOUT LIGHT. THE HEAD LAMPS HAD TURNED OFF EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE ON THE ON POSITION. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME HOLDING MY HIGH BEAM LIGHTS AT ALL TIMES. I HEARD A CLICK, THE LIGHTS CAME ON. I LET GO OF THE HIGH BEAM. THE HEAD LAMPS STAYED ON FOR 15 MIN AND CLICK, THEY WENT OFF AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED TO ME 4 TIMES. FINALLY, I TOOK THE CAR TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND WAS TOLD THAT THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE HAD GONE BAD. I WOULD THINK THAT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ITEM SINCE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS LISTED ON NHTSA WEBSITE. IT COULD BE REALLY DANGEROUS. *TR

AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET I HAVE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM IS THE SAME ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN THE 2003-05 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE (LCM) IS PROBLEMATIC AND POSES A SAFETY CONCERN FOR MANY OWNERS. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT JUST PRIOR TO ENTERING I-77 IN COLUMBIA SC MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I COULD ONLY KEEP THEM ON BY HOLDING DOWN THE HIGH BEAM LEVER UNTIL I GOT HOME. SINCE THEN THEY WILL SOMETIME WORK AND SOMETIME NOT. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $943.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. IN READING OTHER COMPLAINTS I SEE THIS IS NOT AN UNUSUAL COMPLAINT AS IT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS. IS THERE ANY HELP FROM THE MANUFACTURE AS I AM SURE THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS NOT SYMPATHETIC TO THE PROBLEM.
