TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE RECALL BACK IN 2014. I WAS TOLD THAT IF IT WAS NOT OUT, THAT ALL THEY COULD DO IS REPROGRAM IT AND THAT WHEN IT DOES GO OUT THEY WILL REPLACE IT THEN. NOW 2 1/2 YRS LATER, ON MY WAY TO WORK, MY DASHBOARD DISPLAYED "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND MY STEERING WENT OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THROWING CODE # B2278, WHICH IS THE STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR, AND THAT I HAD TO CONTACT FORD ABOUT THE RECALL SINCE I DIDN'T HAVE ANY OPEN RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. THE LADY WITH FORD TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL WAS A ONE-N-DONE DEAL AND SINCE THEY REPROGRAMMED IT IN 2014, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I ASKED HER FOR THE # TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND SHE TOLD ME THAT ALL COMPLAINTS, EITHER BY PHONE OR E-MAIL, COMES THROUGH THEIR OFFICE AND I WILL GET THE SAME ANSWER FROM ANYBODY WHO RECEIVED IT. I CAN UNDERSTAND A ONE-N-DONE IF THEY REPLACE IT, BUT ALL THEY DID WAS PROLONG THE BREAKDOWN. THEY KNEW IT WAS BAD, SO WHY JUST REPROGRAM IT. THAT'S NOT FIXING ANYTHING. MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR JUST HOURS BEFORE I GOT IN IT AND IT WENT OUT. THANK GOD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN TO MY SON, WHO HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVING FOR 1 1/2 YRS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
WHEN I PULLED OUT INTO TRAFFIC ON MY WAY TO MEIJER THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO A STOP LIGHT WHERE I PUT IT INTO PARK. WHEN I TOOK OFF FROM THE TRAFFIC LIGHT EVERYTHING WAS OK, WENT TO MEIJER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. WENT SHOPPING & WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN EVEYTHING SEEMED NORMAL. WITHIN A MILE OF LEAVING MEIJER THE VEHICLE BEGAN THE SAME SYMPTOMS "ACTING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL." WHEN I TRIED TO INCREASE THE SPEED TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME IT WOULD NOT GO OVER 15 MPH. IT WAS LIKE IT WAS CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT GEAR IT WAS IN. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE AND THE VEHICLE DID NOTHING. I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE AND PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD AND THE POWER STEERING SERVICE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THERE WAS A RECALL CODE INDICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A SENSOR FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOT DUE TO A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE A RECALL CODE WAS STILL DETECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
ABS LIGHT ALONG WITH SERVICE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON WITH NO WARNING RESULTING IN NEAR COMPLETE BRAKE LOSS AND NEARLY STRIKING A PERSON CROSSING THE STREET.
STEERING WENT OUT AT 95,000 MILES ON MY DAUGHTER'S 2008 MERCURY MARINER. WE WERE LUCKY THAT SHE OR NO ONE ELSE WAS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED BECAUSE THE WEATHER WAS BAD AND THE ROADS WERE ICY. SHE STATES THAT SHE COULD BARELY TURN THE WHEEL AND IT TOOK ALL SHE HAD TO TURN AFTER IT WENT OUT, AND, IT SEEMED TO GET EVEN WORSE WHEN SHE STOPPED, SHUT IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON. I ASSUME IT IS A RECURRING ISSUE FROM THE RECALL THAT WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BACK IN 2015. I JUST CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY STATE THAT BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS ALREADY PERFORMED, THEY CAN CONFIRM THAT IT WILL NOT BE COVERED. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR FOR A FEE. THE BIGGER ISSUE THAN COST IN MY OPINION IS THE LINGERING SAFETY HAZARD THAT STILL EXISTS. THE COMPONENT FAILED ABOUT A MONTH SHY OF 2 YEARS AFTER THE UPDATE, HOWEVER, AS FAR AS FORD IS CONCERNED, THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. SOMEONE COULD CRASH AND DIE BECAUSE OF THIS KNOWN ISSUE. IS FORD NOT CONCERNED? HOW CAN THEY SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE (LIKE MY DAUGHTER) ARE AT RISK. IN MY OPINION, IT IS COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE TO NOT CONDUCT ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. SOMEONE WITH MONEY NEEDS TO GET AFTER THEM WITH A LAWSUIT.

MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING HOME ON THE INTERSTATE. WE HAD JUST MERGED TO THE PASSING LANE TO ALLOW TRAFFIC MERGING FROM AN ON RAMP TO ENTER THE INTERSTATE A VEHICLE NEXT TO US WAS DOING THE EXACT SPEED AS WE WERE WHICH WAS 72 MPH SET CRUISE CONTROL. I HAD VEHICLES APPROACHING FROM THE REAR AND SINCE I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE DECIDED TO SPEED UP AND GET IN FRONT OF THE CAR BESIDE US I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR ON OUR 08 MERCURY MARINER WITH A 3.0L ENGINE TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR ACCELERATED IN FRONT OF THE OTHER CAR, WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE ONCE WITH NOTHING CHANGING THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I PROCEEDED TO PUMP THE BRAKE THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES IN ABOUT 1 SECOND INTERVALS. FINALLY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASE AND THE CAR SLOWED DOWN. WE PRECEDED HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND HAS RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURIES AND DEATHS IN EARLIER MODEL YEARS OF FORD ESCAPE, MERCURY MARINER AND MAZDA TRIBUTE VEHICLES. I HAVE HAD FORD VEHICLES MY WHOLE LIFE AND HAVE BEEN WORKING ON VEHICLES FOR MORE THAN THIRTY FIVE YEARS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND IS NOT THE ONLY TIME OR VEHICLE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO IN THIS YEAR THERE ARE MANY OTHER SIMILAR PEOPLE THAT HAVE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THESE FORD AND MERCURY SUV'S ON THE INTERNET EX: CARCOMPLAINTS.COM TO NAME JUST ONE. THE INTERNET IS FILLED WITH THESE DANGEROUS COMPLAINTS. STEERING WHEEL WILL FREEZE UP WHILE DRIVING. STEEL ON STEEL HORRIBLE NOISE WHEN DRIVING. SHIFTER GETS STUCK HAVE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO START IT. *TR
CAR WORKING NORMAL, SHUT IT OFF, TURNED IT ON THE NEXT DAY AND HAD NO POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE. WHEN REVIEWING ONLINE OTHER 2008 MERCURY MARINERS WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. HOWEVER, FORD TOLD ME MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. YET THE REPAIR WAS THE EXACT SAME REPAIR THAT WAS NEEDED TO FIX THE RECALLED CARS.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE MARINER, SHE STOPPED AT THE POST OFFICE TO SHIP A PACKAGE. WHEN SHE TRIED PULLING AWAY FROM THE CURVE SHE COULDN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. SHE CALLED ME TOLD ME WHAT HAD HAPPENED , ALSO SAYING THE DISPLAY ON DASHBOARD WAS ON , A MESSAGE THAT READ ELECTTRIC POWER ASSIST FAILURE, I ARRIVED WHERE SHE WAS AND DROVE THE MARINER HOME. THIS HAPPENED ON A FRIDAY NIGHT SO HAD TO WAIT UNTIL MONDAY TO CALL FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-392-3673 TO SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE, AFTER ALL THIS IS A NATIONAL RECALL.
POWER STEERING NOT WORKING. THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2014 AND DEALER STATES HE FIXED IT, BUT THEY ONLY DID THE MINIMUM AND RAN DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY WERE DONE. THEY STATED THE CODES DIDN'T POP UP THAT WERE REQUIRED. PER MY MECHANIC THEY ARE POPPING UP AS OF TODAY. I CANNOT GET FORD OR DEALERS TO HELP ME.

THE CONTACT, AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) NO LONGER APPLIED TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,310.
HAD MINOR STEERING ISSUES AND FOUND I HAD A RECALL ON IT FOR THE POWER STEERING. TOOK IT TO SEELYE WRIGHT OF KALAMAZOO AND THEY REPROGRAMMED IT. WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF THIS THE STEERING WHEEL WAS JUMPING ALL OVER THE PLACE WHEN STOPPED AND WOULD PULSATE. THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT THERE BEFORE I TOOK IT IN. I CALLED THEM AND THEY TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO SEE ME AND THAT THEY WERE ALL BOOKED UP UNTIL AFTER THE NEW YEAR, ETC. ESSENTIALLY SHOOING ME AWAY. I LATER DID MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY FOUND THAT I NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN, WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, HOWEVER THEY TOLD ME THAT MY RECALL WAS CLOSED.? THIS DIDN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME SINCE I AM STILL HAVING ISSUES AND NOW I NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN? I AM BEING FORCED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITH BROKEN STEERING THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE RECALL. I HAVE BEEN TAKING THIS VEHICLE BACK AND FORTH TO WORK AND TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL IN THE MORNING. I FEEL LIKE FORD AND EVEN MORE SO SEELYE SHOULD MAKE THIS RIGHT. I AM DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT IS A DANGER TO MYSELF AND OTHERS BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS NOT PROPERLY FIXED. SEELYE CLOSED THE RECALL EARLY AND NOW I AM BEING STUCK WITH FORDS MISTAKE. UPDATE: CALLED FORD AND THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER CA11743787, AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR IN TO GET FIXED. WHEN I SHOWED UP TO GET THE CAR FIXED I RAN INTO THE "CLOSED" RECALL PROBLEM AGAIN. NOW I AM ON THE PHONE WITH FORD WAITING AN ANSWER TO SEE IF THEY WILL ACTUALLY HONOR THE RECALL AND FIX IT. FORD IS NOT CHOOSING TO HONOR THE RECALL SINCE THE DEALERSHIP CLOSED IT WITHOUT IT BEING FIXED CORRECTLY.

THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES, AND RESUMED DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EPA STEERING GEAR BOX FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,200.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THERE WAS A CLICKING LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN MAKING A TURN, THE POWER ASSIST SYSTEM FAULT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY WAS 138,000.
I RECEIVED A MESSAGE ON MY DASH DISPLAY "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" WHILE DRIVING. AFTER PARKING, SHUTTING OFF MY VEHICLE, AND THEN RESTARTING MY VEHICLE, MY POWER STEERING WAS LOCKED. THE BRIGHTON FORD DEALERSHIP ASSESSED MY VEHICLE AND TOLD ME I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY TORQUE SENSOR WHICH CAUSES THE POWER STEERING TO LOCK UP. I LOOKED UP TORQUE SENSORS FOR MY VEHICLE, AND DISCOVERED THAT TORQUE SENSORS IN MANY VEHICLES MATCHING THE SAME DESCRIPTION AS MINE WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME EXACT MALFUNCTION. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED DURING THE DATES LISTED ON THE RECALL AS WELL. IT IS RECALL NUMBER 14S05. THIS RECALL IS NOT SHOWING UP FOR MY VEHICLE. WHY COULD THIS BE?
DROVE TO WORK ABOUT 15 MILES AND SHUT VEHICLE OFF. THEN STARTED VEHICLE TO MOVE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER SPOT AND STEERING WAS TIGHT AND ON DASH IT SAID POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. WAS UNABLE TO STEER CAR. CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE BECAUSE I WANTED TO KNOW IF MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN FIXED WITH CAMPAIGN14V284000 AND WAS TOLD CAMPAIGN WAS CLOSED.
MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND ON THE DASH IT SAID "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE TORQUE SENSOR WENT OUT AND THE ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN HAS TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TORQUE SENSOR IN 2014, RECALL 14S05, AND THEIR SOLUTION WAS TO DO A SOFTWARE UPDATE INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE STEERING COLUMN. WHEN I CALLED FORD'S CORPORATE OFFICE ABOUT THIS THEY SAID THEY HAVE NOT DECIDED TO PAY FOR THE STEERING COLUMN TO BE REPLACED. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE SOLUTION TO THE RECALL DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE TORQUE SENSOR STILL FAILED AND FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. I KNOW THERE IS AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HOPEFULLY FORD WILL DO THE RIGHT THING AND REIMBURSE EVERYONE THAT HAS HAD TO PAY FOR THIS TO BE REPLACED.

THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY PROVIDED THE REMEDY BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM THAT THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. SHORTLY AFTER THE DEALER'S REPAIR, THE STEERING WHEEL HAD A STRONG VIBRATION AND THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL TO ENSURE THAT IT WAS STATIONARY WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A SOLUTION SO THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: DP15001 (STEERING). THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 05/04/17*LJ *CN

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON HER WAY HOME, AND OUT OF NOWHERE THE STEERING FELT WEIRD, AND WHILE DRIVING THE CAR SHUT OFF. NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES (DUE TO ENGINE SHUTTING OFF) AND WE DO NOT KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENED.
IT STARTED OFF WHEN YOU GET ON THE FREEWAY YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHT BECAUSE IT JUMPS IN THE NEXT LANE. AND IT'S HARD TO STEER ESPECIALLY TRYING TO TURN AND GUIDE IT GOING STRAIGHT.
RECEIVED FORD RECALL #14S05 IN JULY OF 2014, FOR A "LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST" IN AFFECTED VEHICLES. THE RECALL NOTICE INDICATED THAT FORD WOULD PERFORM A "SOFTWARE UPDATE", OR, "REPLACE AFFECTED COMPONENTS FOR FREE OF CHARGE". TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A NEARBY FORD DEALERSHIP, HAD THE RECALL "SOFTWARE UPDATE" PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE. AFTER THE "SOFTWARE UPDATE" WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE, MY VEHICLE SUFFERED A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST, REQUIRING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. THIS WAS THE EXACT REASON FORD HAD ISSUED RECALL #14S05 IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THE EXACT COMPONENTS FORD SAID IT WOULD REPLACE AS PART OF RECALL #14S05. FORD HAS SINCE REFUSED TO PAY FOR, OR, REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF THIS REPAIR UNDER THE PREMISE THAT THE "SOFTWARE UPDATE FIXED THE POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFECT". AS A RESULT, FORD CONTINUES TO PERPETUATE INCREASED RISK OF ACCIDENTS AND SUBSEQUENT INJURY TO OWNERS OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES.

THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY VEHICLE SO I TOOK TO 3 MECHANICS WHICH ALL SAID THE SAME THING THAT IT WAS MY POWER STEERING AND HAS A RECALL CODE OF 14S05. THEN ON PLACE SAID THEY CAN FIX BUT THEN TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T AFTER CHARGING ME $700 FOR A NEW SENSOR, THEN TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO FORD. WHEN CONTACTED FORD THEY AGREED IT WAS A PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT FIX IT BECAUSE OF MY "VIN" NUMBER WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. HOW DOES THIS WORK IF PROBLEMS ARE KNOWN WHY AREN'T ALL "VIN" NUMBERS HONORED IN THE RECALL TO GET FIXED?
WHILE MY COLLEGE AGE DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING TO CAMPUS ON SUNDAY 8/28/16, CAME TO STOP AND WHEN SHE TRIED TO ACCELERATE, RPM BEGAN TO RACE ERRATICALLY AND CAR WOULD BARELY ACCELERATE. WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD IS NOW ILLUMINATED.
THIS HAD BEEN A GREAT CAR FOR ME UNTIL TODAY. I LEARNED THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT IS BAD AND WILL REQUIRE NEARLY $5000 TO REPLACE. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. IT HAD 105000 MILES. IT IS NOT WORTH MUCH MORE THAN $5K. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO TRY AND TRADE THE CAR IN. I LATERALLY JUST GAVE IT TO MY DAUGHTER FOR COLLEGE ON SATURDAY. SHE HAS ALWAYS LOVED MY CAR.

THE CPU UNIT HAS HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE AND THE A NEW REPLACEMENT PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. VEHICLE YEAR IS A 2008. THE PROBLEM STARTED TO BECOME HARD TO START THE COMPLETE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER.
SAFETY RECALL 14S05 -AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL FORD UPGRADED THE SOFTWARE IN MY CAR IN DEC. 2015, BUT THREE MONTHS LATER THE STEERING FAILED. (THE CAR WAS PARKED ON A QUIET SAN FRANCISCO STREET WHEN I TRIED TO START IT AND REALIZED THAT THE STEERING WOULDN'T WORK.) I FIRST TOWED THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO LOOKED AT IT FOR A WEEK AND THEN TOLD ME THAT IT WAS RELATED TO THIS SAFETY RECALL; HE ADVISED ME TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO FORD. WHEN I RE-TOWED THE CAR TO FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THEIR WRITTEN COMMITMENT TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM AND INSTEAD TRIED TO ARGUE THAT BECAUSE I GOT A SOFTWARE UPDATE, THEIR RESPONSIBILITY WAS OVER. WHEN I ASKED IF THE SYMPTOMS IN MY CAR MATCHED THOSE THE RECALL WAS MEANT TO FIX, THE DEALERSHIP ADMITTED THE SYMPTOMS MATCHED. THEY SAY THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING B/C A "CODE" DIDN'T TRIP. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE RECALL SAYS THAT SOFTWARE UPGRADES "MAY" FIX THE PROBLEM AND SHOULD AT LEAST NOTIFY THE DRIVER BY BEEPING. MY CAR NEVER BEEPED, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT "MAY" FIX THE PROBLEM IS NOT SUFFICIENT FOR SAFETY! THE STEERING ISSUE SHOULD BE FIXED/REPLACED BY FORD! FORD IS NEGLIGENTLY PUTTING CUSTOMER LIVES IN DANGER. MOREOVER, FORD SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO PUSH THE COST OF A MALFUNCTIONING, CORE PRODUCT FEATURE ONTO CUSTOMERS. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR, AT THE TOP OF THE MARKET PRICE FOR IT, I WAS NOT TOLD "IN 50,000 MILES YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR A COMPLETELY NEW STEERING COLUMN BECAUSE THIS ONE WILL FAIL AND PEOPLE IN YOUR CAR MAY DIE." PLEASE INVESTIGATE AS MANY CONSUMERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW FORD IS TRYING TO PUSH RESPONSIBILITY FOR RECALL 14S05 ONTO INDIVIDUAL CAR OWNERS.

TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP - AUTONATION IN WHITE BEAR LAKE MN_ AND THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND CLOSED THE RECALL OUT AS COMPLETE. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SHAKING INTERMITTENTLY AND RANDOMLY. IT GOT TO THE POINT IT WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY SO I TOOK IT BACK IN AND WAS TOLD THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED REPLACED. EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS ONE OF THE OPTIONS TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE ON THE RECALL THEY SAID IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED AND WOULD COST $1300.00. I CALLED FORD AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER IT AS WELL BECAUSE THE SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS DONE. NOW IT IS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN SAFELY UNTIL I CAN AFFORD THE REPAIRS. IT CLEARLY IS RELATED TO THE RECALL AS I KNOW THE 3 OPTIONS WERE TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE, REPLACE TORQUE SENSOR OR REPLACE STEERING COLUMN. AT THE TIME OF RECALL MY TORQUE SENSOR WAS NOT FAILING SO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY DID A COMPUTER SOFTWARE UPDATE. CLEARLY THE UPDATE DID NOTHING TO CORRECT THE ISSUE WITH THE TORQUE SENSOR ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL, HOWEVER NOW FORD WILL NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT PERSONALLY LOST MY POWER STEERING YET IN A SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED INJURY HOWEVER THERE ARE A WHOLE SLEW OF COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE REPORTING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. A SUDDEN LOSS OF STEERING IS A BIG DEAL AND VERY DANGEROUS, IT IS SOMETHING FORD SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO CORRECT.

A FRIEND HAS THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE/SAME PROBLEM LAST YEAR, BUT DUE TO HER CAR BEING BUILT AT THAT PLANT/TIME WAS COMPENSATED FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. AGAIN, FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT MINIMIZES COVERAGE. I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK OF WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF MY WIFE/DAUGHTER HAD BEEN DRIVING(AT NIGHT). IN REALITY, IT IS UNSAFE AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.

SERVICE PERFORMED WAS A SOFTWARE MODIFICATION THAT WAS DESCRIBED TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM GOING INTO MANUAL STEERING MODE WITHOUT WARNING AS A RESULT OF TORQUE SENSOR DEFECT. 01/27/16 THE POWER STEERING ASSIST STOPPED FUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING AND MOVED TO MANUAL STEERING MODE, 29 DAYS AFTER THE RECALL SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. A "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" WARNING DISPLAY ON THE DASH. I CONTACTED FORD CONSUMER LINE WAS TOLD THAT RECALL ON MY VEHICLE IS CLOSED. THE UPDATE WAS APPLIED. NOW I HAVE TO PAY FOR A TORQUE SENSOR, A COST OF $700.00. MY UNDERSTANDING OF THE RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE WAS TO PREVENT THIS PROBLEM.
