I WAS ON A MAJOR EXPRESSWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTING DECREASING SPEED. I WENT FROM 55 MPH TO 45 TO 35 TO 25 TO 15 TO 5 AND THE STOPPED. LUCKILY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND WHEN THIS STARTED, I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WHICH WAS CLOSE TO AN EXIT. I SOMEHOW GOT THE SUV HOME, STARTING THE ENGINE, IT DYING OUT AND GOING A COUPLE OF FEET OVER AND OVER AGAIN. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR AUTO SHIP AND THEY SAID THAT FORD HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE AND GAVE US A NORTH CAROLINA CONSUMERS COUNCIL ARTICLE. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE DIGITAL EQUIPMENT TO FIX AND REFERRED US TO FORD DEALERSHIP. FORD DEALERSHIP ADVISED IT WAS THE THROTTLE. I TALKED TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ADVISED THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.I WE SPENT $362.56 ON THROTTLE AND TWO LETTERS LATER FORD WILL DO NOTHING SINCE THEY SAY WE DO NOT HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WE ARE BEYOND THREE YEARS/36,000 MILES. I WAS AFRAID WHEN THE CAR DIED OUT ON THE EXPRESSWAY. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CARE WENT LIMP AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. HE HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED TO HIM 3 TIMES AND ME ONE TIME. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY. YOU HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS AND THERE IS AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION. IN ADDITION, THE DEALERSHIP WAS GOING TO OVERCHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIR. PLEASE DO EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO GET FORD TO RECALL THIS PARTY AND REIMBURSE THE CUSTOMER BEFORE THERE IS A FATALITY. *TR
MY 2010 MERCURY MARINER WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE INPUTS. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND LEARNED THAT THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY OR ELECTRONIC CONTROL PANEL FOR THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION AS IT APPEARS AT RANDOM WITHOUT WARNING. I BELIEVE THIS MUST BE A DEFECT THAT HAS BEEN KNOWN TO FORD FOR SOME TIME AND NEEDS TO BE THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL. *TR
I HAVE NO THROTTLE RESPONSE, ENGINE RPM DROP BACK TO AN IDLE, ENGINE RUNS ROUGH AND STALLS. NO POWER. MOVING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN ENGINE OFF AND RESTART AND WILL RUNS FINE, BUT TODAY THIS PROBLEM RECURRED EVERY 4 MILES. I WAS ONLY 22 MILES FROM HOME BUT THAT IS A LOT OF STOPPING ALONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY UNTIL THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED WHEN THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT ABOUT 70-75 MPH AND HESITATION OCCURRED AND SPEED UNCONTROLLABLY DECREASED. I WENT TO RIGHT LANE (HAD BEEN IN MIDDLE LANE) AND STOPPED ON THE SHOULDER OF THE NEAREST EXIT LANE. LUCKILY IT WAS VERY CLOSE. I WAS AFRAID THAT I WOULD LOSE CONTROL OF STEERING ALSO. THIS IS 3RD TIME THIS HAPPENED, SO TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THROTTLE BODY ASSM. FOR CLOSE TO $500. TECHNICIAN SAID I SHOULD BE HAPPY NOW, THE NEW PART HAD BEEN RE-DESIGNED. I'D BE ALOT HAPPIER IF FORD HAD TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY EARLIER WHEN THEY REALIZED IT NEEDED TO BE REDESIGNED. THE PREVIOUS OCCURRENCE I WAS IN LEFT LANE AT VERY BUSY TIME ON XPRESSWAY AND HAD TO PULL ONTO THE LEFT HAND SHOULDER....VERY CLOSE TO BEING HIT. *TR
DRIVING AT 45 MPH AND CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE. CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK TO MY DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR ONLY 6 MONTHS AGO. THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. DID LOTS OF RESEARCH TO FIND THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY BEFORE MORE GET INJURED! MY DEALER REFUSES TO COVER THIS REPAIR NOR CAN GIVE ME AN ETA BECAUSE THIS IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. BECAUSE THIS HAPPENS SO MUCH. TOO, ONCE THE NEW THROTTLE BODY COMES, I'M SURE I'D HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS THE PART IS A DEFECT. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS TRAVELING IN LOUISIANA ON BUSINESS, WHEN FOR NO REASON THE SUV STOPPED ON THE INTERSTATE SHE PHONED ME IN TEARS ON THE ISSUE, SHE WAS STRANDED ON THE INTERSTATE FOR A SHORT WHILE. SHE GOT IT STARTED AGAIN AFTER A FEW MINUTES. SHE DROVE FOR ANOTHER FEW MILES AND IT DID IT AGAIN. SHE FINALLY MADE IT TO A DEALER. THE DEALER RAN A TEST THAT COST HER 125 DOLLARS ONLY TO TELL HER SHE HAD A BAD ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND WOULD BE DAYS MAYBE WEEKS BEFORE THEY COULD GET ONE. SHE THAN RETURNED TO HER PLACE OF STAY , THAT TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR BECAUSE SHE COULD TAKE THE INTERSTATE AND HAD TO STOP EVERY FEW MILES TO RESTART THE ENGINE. WHAT A HUGE INCONVENIENCE AND FRIGHTENED SHE WOULD BE REAR ENDED. I HOPE A RESOLUTION IS IN THE WORKS FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
DESCRIPTION WAS MAD WITH COMPLAINT NO. 10525937 I HAD ENTERED THE WRONG TYPE VEHICLE. *TR
STALLING. AFTER DRIVING 60 MILES, SOME AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, WE STOPPED AT A CROSSROAD TO CROSS. UPON CROSSING IT RAN ROUGH AND STALLED JUST AS WE CROSSED THE STREET. WAITED TWO MINUTES, RESTARTED AND DROVE REST OF WAY HOME WITH NO PROBLEM. POSTED SPEED ON ROAD WE CROSSED IS 55 MPH. HAD IT STALLED IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC THERE COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. WE HAD OUR TWO GRANDCHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IN 5 WEEKS. HAD THE FUEL PUMP AND SPARK PLUGS CHANGED THE FIRST TIME. RAN FINE UNTIL YESTERDAY. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING ON. TODAY I ORDERED AN THROTTLE BODY. *TR
THROTTLE BODY,,,, DRIVING DOWN THE STREET..ALL OF THE SUDDEN A WRENCH APPEARS AND THE CAR DOES NOT GO... HAVE TO TRY AND SAFELY PULL OVER...HAVE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT,,, THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK...GOING APPROX 30 MPH---. ALSO HAPPENED ABOUT A MONTH AGO ON THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 70 MPH....VERY SCARED..THIS CAR IS GOING TO GET ME KILLED! *TR
I WAS DRIVING APPROX. 55MPH ON THE PARKWAY WHEN MY VEHICLE GAVE ME A KICK BACK (SHOOK A LITTLE) AND BEGAN TO DECELERATE UNTIL IT COMPLETELY STOPPED. I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE AND HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. I DROVE APPROX. 3 MILES BEFORE THE PROBLEM OCCURRED A SECOND TIME, THIS TIME I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE SHOULDER BEFORE THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED SO I ENDED UP AT A DEAD STOP IN A TURN LANE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SHOP WITHOUT ANY ISSUES OCCURRING AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE ISSUE WAS READING AS "P2112 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL STUCK CLOSED" - THE ENTIRE PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND WILL COST ME $400 AS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED FOMOCO AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS ISSUE DESPITE MANY COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN ONLINE THROUGH THE NHTSA. I AM HOPEFUL THAT FORD WILL COME THROUGH AND PAY FOR A PORTION (IF NOT ALL) OF THIS REPAIR AS THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS INCIDENT AND ONE THAT IS CLEARLY OCCURRING WITH MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES WITH THE DRIVE-BY-WIRE THROTTLE. IF FORD DOES NOT RECALL THIS, IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY OR FATALLY INJURED. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING DOWN I-95 AT THE TIME MY THROTTLE FAILED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG NORMALLY WHEN THE CAR LURCHED AND THE ENGINE WENT TO IDLE. I PULLED ONTO A LOT AND STOPPED THE ENGINE WHILE I LOOKED UP WHAT THE WRENCH LIGHT MEANT. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR IT SOUNDED NORMAL, BUT WHEN I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE IT DID THE SAME THING. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AGAIN AND STOPPED THE ENGINE AGAIN FOR A SHORT TIME. UPON RESTARTING I PULLED BACK ONTO THE ROAD AND COULD ACCELERATE TO ABOUT 20 MPH WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I THEN LIMPED THE CAR TO THE DEALER, ABOUT 2 - 3 MILES AWAY, AND LEFT IT. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER CALLED AND ADVISED ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED (150 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY) AND THE LAST ONE THE DID TOOK 2 MONTHS TO OBTAIN. I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE HAVE BEEN 27,000 COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS ONE. ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME FOR A RECALL! *TR
CAR WENT INTO 'LIMP MODE" AT ABOUT 25 MPH AND THE ORANGE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. HAD TO STOP, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN RESTARTED. WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF BUT IT OCCURRED AGAIN IN ABOUT 5 MILES. WENT TO FORD DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG NOR DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN A COUPLE OF MILES AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY ONCE AGAIN COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. TWO DAYS LATER ON I-95 THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" THE ORANGE LIGHT CAME ON AND I DROVE TO THE SIDE. THE TRAFFIC WAS BACKED UP SO I WAS GOING ABOUT 25 MPH WHEN THIS OCCURRED. WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE THIS TIME, THE "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF BUT THE "CHECK THE ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON. NEXT DAY RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THIS TIME THEY SAID THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. IN RESEARCHING ON LINE I FOUND THAT THIS IS OCCURRING WITH SOME FREQUENCY AND WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO SEE FORD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ISSUING A DEFECTIVE PART. AS OF NOW IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO PAY THE BILL AND HOPE THAT THE NEW PART IS NOT DEFECTIVE ALSO. IT IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE AND HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE RESOLVED. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED 3 TIMES AND HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. TURN KEY OFF AND RESTART VEHICLE TO REGAIN THROTTLE RESPONSE. WRENCH LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MECHANIC RETRIEVED MEMORY CODES P2111 AND P2112. *TR PERFORMED ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY TEST WITH IDS. THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND HAS A FAULT. MECHANIC REPLACED THROTTLE BODY
WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL INTERSTAE (271S) MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED AND DROPPED FROM 60 MPH TO 10MPH THEN TO A CRAWL. LUCKIY I MADE IT TO THE SHOULDER ( I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE WITH LIMITED TRAFFIC) THE CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND JUMP. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS POSSIBLE FATAL ACCIDENT IF I HAD BEEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. NO WARNING WAS PROVIDED. IT HAPPENED, THE WRENCH SYMBOL POPPED UP AS IT WAS HAPPENING AND THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO. I TRAVEL DAILY ON THE HIGHWAY TO/FROM WORK. THE TRAFFIC IS VERY HEAVY. LUCKILY, I WAS ON THE ROAD ON TH WEEKEND DURING A FAIRLY LOW POPULATED TIME FRAME. I CALLED MERCURY AND AND RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE . I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND RECEIVED NO SATISFACTION THERE ALSO. THIS IS A SERIOUS INCIDENT AND HAS HAPENED TO MANY ( I CAN PROVIDE WEBSITE WITH TESTIMONIALS.) SINCE THIS NOT A POWERTRAIN ISSUE AND IT WAS PAST THE 3/35,000 COVERAGE, IM STUCK WITH THE EXPENSE $360.00. WEAR AND TEAR IS ONE THING BUT TO SEE A FLAW LIKE THIS OCCUR FOR MANY AND NOTHING IS DONE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN LOST THROTTLE. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND POWER CYCLE THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED 8 TIMES IN 40 MILES. EACH TIME THE WRENCH INDICATOR WOULD DISPLAY ON THE DASH. I CHECKED THE ERROR CODES AND THERE WERE SEVERAL OCCURRENCES OF P2111 AND P2112. THIS HAPPENED TO A RELATIVE DRIVING MY VEHICLE A COUPLE DAYS AGO, AND MY WIFE A MONTH AGO. THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH MY MARINER JERKED THEN LOST ACCELERATION. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROADWAY SAFELY INTO A PARKING LOT. AFTER SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING IT I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE A FEW FEET BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. AGAIN SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED. A FEW DAYS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER BUT IT IS SAFE TO CONTINUE DRIVING TO VEHICLE!! AS I WAS DRIVING HOME A FEW NIGHTS AGO THIS HAPPENED AGAIN 4 TIMES WITHIN 1 MILE. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WILL NOT BE DRIVING MY VEHICLE UNTIL THIS IS REPAIRED. (AND WHO KNOW HOW LONG THAT WILL BE!). PLEASE RECALL THIS PART BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED! *TR
WHILE OPERATING VEHICLE AT ABOUT 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO A LIMP. IT DIDN'T STALL. AFTER TURNING VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING IT SEEMED FINE FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN SLOWED AGAIN. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. CODE P2112 WAS INDICATED AND A NEW THROTTLE BODY WAS INSTALLED AND RE-PROGRAMMED. *TR
VEHICLE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB) WAS REPLACED AT VETERANS FORD DEALERSHIP IN TAMPA, FL DUE TO THIS PART SEVERELY EFFECTING ABILITY OF THE VEHICLE TO RUN PROPERLY (SEVERAL TIMES). CUSTOMER PAID FOR THIS REPAIR. SOMETIME AFTER 3/4/14 WHEN NHTSA COMPLETED THEIR INVESTIGATION, WE RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT FORD WAS REPLACING THIS ITEM. SINCE WE ALREADY PAID FOR THE REPAIR ($381.32) AT A FORD DEALERSHIP, WE TRIED TO GET THE REIMBURSEMENT THAT FORD OWES US. WE WERE INFORMED WE HAD TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT, WHICH TO THIS DAY IS STILL PACKED UP IN STORAGE IF WE HAVE IT AT ALL BECAUSE WE MOVED FROM FL TO NC AND ARE STILL INVOLVED IN BUYING A NEW HOME. THE BOTTOM LINE IS FORD (CORP) IS REFUSING TO HONOR THEIR AGREEMENT TO REIMBURSE CUSTOMERS. THE CRAZIEST PART OF THIS WHOLE DILEMMA IS THAT FORD HAS AND CONTROLS 100% OF THE INFORMATION NEEDED TO PROCESS OUR REIMBURSEMENT, BUT ABSOLUTELY REFUSES TO DO SO WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT. I COULD UNDERSTAND IF WE HAD THIS REPAIR DONE AT SOME UNRELATED, THIRD PARTY SERVICE FACILITY. HOWEVER, WE WENT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE RECORD OF COMPLETING THE REPAIR AND US PAYING THEM FOR THE REPAIR. SO AGAIN, FORD HAS ALL THE INFORMATION (PROOF) IN THEIR POSSESSION TO TAKE CARE OF THIS REIMBURSEMENT, BUT REFUSES TO DO SO. I HAVE CALLED THE CUSTOMER (DIS)SATISFACTION DEPARTMENT AT FORD CORPORATE, BUT THAT IS LIKE TALKING TO A BRICK WALL AS FAR AS ANYONE HAVING IN COMMON SENSE, ACCOUNTABILITY OR DECENCY TO DO THE RIGHT THING (CERTAINLY ANY KIND OF GOOD WILL IS LACKING IN THAT ORGANIZATION). SO HERE I AM HAVING TO COMPLAIN TO THE NHTSA TO GET FORD TO DO WHAT THEY PROMISED IN THE FIRST PLACE. I LOOK FORWARD TO A TIMELY REPLY LETTING ME KNOW YOU GUYS HAVE THIS HANDLED. I WAS DRIVING MY MARINER AND TURN INTO A HEAVY TRAFFIC ROAD AND MY CAR JUST WENT DEAD ONCE I WAS IN TRAFFIC. L WAS LUCKY THAT I WASN'T HIT FROM BEHIND ME. THE CAR WARNINGS DISPLAYED A WRENCH ON THE CAR PANEL. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SHOP AND IT REQUIRED REPAIRS TO THE THROTTLE CONTROL/POWER TRAIN. THE CAR ONLY HAS ABOUT 4600 MILES ON IT. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEMS. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF A PROBLEM. THE CAR JUST DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS I WOULD BE DRIVING THE CAR AND IT WOULD LOSE ALL POWER AND THE WRENCH SYMBOL WOULD APPEAR IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER, STOP THE CAR AND TURN IT OFF. IT WOULD THEN START AND I COULD GO FOR AN UNDETERMINED PERIOD OF TIME AND IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS RESULTED IN MORE THAN ONE NEAR MISS BY OTHER CARS TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE. I HAD IT REPAIRED BY THE MERCURY DEALERSHIP WHO HAD TO ORDER THE PART SINCE THEY SAID THIS WAS HAPPENING SO MUCH IT WAS HARD TO GET THE THROTTLE BODY PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR JERKED AND THEN STALLED. THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT WORK. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF. THE CAR RESTARTED AND ACCELERATED NORMALLY. THIS OCCURRED THREE MORE TIMES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND SENT ME HOME (IN THE UNSAFE CAR). I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT 45 MPH AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ENGINE POWER, BUT DID NOT DIE. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I RESTERTED THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED FINE. I DROVE TWO MILES AND ENGINE LOST POWER AGAIN. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTERTED. MY FRIEND GAVE ME A RIDE HOME AS I WAS 12 MILES FROM HOME. I CALLED A TOWING SERVICE AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL GARAGE. COMPUTER CODE REGISTERED A P2111. I CONTACTED LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY RECOMMENDED A THROTTLE BODY CLEANING BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 6,000 MILES. HAD SERVICE PERFORMED ON 6/24. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 25 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD, THEN BEGAN RAPIDLY DECELERATING. I HAD TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND COAST TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE IS USED PRIMARILY ON THE FREEWAY AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 65 MILES PER HOUR. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THERE HAS ONLY BEEN A FEW HUNDRED COMPLAINTS. I WISH TO ADD ONE MORE TO THE LIST. IT HAD BEEN ACTING UP AGAIN, AND NOT QUITE THE SAME AS PREVIOUSLY, WITH MORE STALLING OUT AND NOT ACCELERATING AND THEN SUDDENLY JUMPING A LITTLE. ASKED DEALER TO LOOK INTO SITUATION AGAIN ON VISIT ON MAY 30TH. TECHS FOUND NOTHING WRONG. WAS DRIVING HOME ON INTERSTATE ON EVENING OF JUNE 7TH WHEN IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE HAD LOST POWER. I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH, BUT I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO A WIDE SHOULDER AREA. THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED OFF CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEMS. THEY TELL ME THIS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, BUT IRONICALLY ENOUGH MY WARRANTY EXPIRED 4 DAYS AGO MAY 25,2013, WHICH I WASN'T AWARE OF. I WAS AT THE DEALER 2 MONTHS PRIOR GETTING A OIL CHANGE THIS DIDN'T DAWN ON YOU TO TELL ME IT WAS GOING TO EXPIRE. SO I CAME TO YOU WITH THIS PROBLEM A YEAR AGO YOU HAD NO CLUE AND SAID HAVE A GREAT DAY, I'VE BEEN IN EVERY 3 MONTHS OR SO FOR OIL CHANGES SINCE THAT INCIDENT, AND YOU COULDN'T HAVE NOTICED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AWFULLY CONVENIENT. FORD REPAIR SHOP FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE UPON INSPECTION AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO WITHOUT AN ERROR CODE IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. A STALLING INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN ON 3/18/14. IN THIS INSTANCE, AGAIN THERE WAS NO WARNING. I HAD JUST EXITED OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I WAS DRIVING ALONG ON THE HIGHWAY (I-77 N) AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STARTED TO JERK. THE WRENCH TOOL LIGHT LIT UP ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO LOOSE SPEED. THE CHANGE IN POWER AND SPEED WAS QUICK AND I HAD TO QUICKLY CHECK THE SURROUNDING TRAFFIC AND PULL THE CAR OVER TO AVOID AND ACCIDENT. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I CUT THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND IT STARTED BACK UP. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND I WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE FILTER. I PURCHASED A FILTER FROM FORD AND MY CAR RAN SMOOTHLY FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. I WOULD PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. EACH TIME THE WRENCH TOOL WOULD APPEAR AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I HAVE LOST SPEED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. AFTER MY CAR STARTED TO CUT OFF AGAIN FOLLOWING THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW FILTER I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO PURCHASE THROTTLE BODY SPRAY. THEY CLEANED OUT THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE CAR DROVE FINE FOR A FEW DAYS UNTIL I BEGAN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME TIMES I WOULD HAVE TO CUT MY CAR OFF A FEW TIMES AND RESTART IT ON ONE ROUND TRIP. I KEEP REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THIS CAR, CHANGING THE OIL AND ROTATING THE TIRES, ETC. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN DECEMBER 2012 BECAUSE THE CAR I HAD OVER $2,500 OF NEEDED MAINTENANCE. I NEEDED A RELIABLE CAR TO GET AROUND AS THE PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION FOR MY FAMILY. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER A FEW TIMES AND THEY EXPLAINED THE CODE AND EXPLANATION OF THE PROBLEM: TROUBLE CODE P2111, THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN AND CLOSED. I REALLY HOPE THIS INVESTIGATION IS EXPEDITED AND THAT FORD RECALLS THE MERCURY MARINER 2010 DUE TO THE FAULTY THROTTLE BOTTLE. REAR HATCH DOESN'T SEAL TIGHTLY, RESULTING IN LEAK WHEN IT'S RAINING- THEN BECAUSE OF LEAK (I THINK) THE REAR DEFROST DOESN'T WORK- AND I'M IN MICHIGAN! ALSO, THE SEALCOAT ON THE RIMS CHIPPED/WORE OFF? THIS RESULTED IN RIMS RUSTING AND WHEN I HAD TIRES REPLACED, NOW THE TIRE WON'T SEAL TO THE RIM EDGE BECAUSE OF PITTING. NOW I HAVE NO REAR DEFROST, A LEAKING LIFT GATE, AND HAVE TO REPLACE RIMS BECAUSE THE SEALCOAT FAILURE ALLOWED MY RIMS TO RUST. THE LIFT GATE AND REAR DEFROST FAILURE HAPPENED A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER MY WARRANTY TIME EXPIRED (MY CAR ONLY HAS 25K MILES ON IT); AND THE RIM I JUST FOUND OUT AFTER REPLACING ALL FOUR TIRES DUE TO 'DRY ROT' (NOT WORN DOWN) FROM THE CAR NOT GETTING DRIVEN ALL THE TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MARINER. IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS FOR THE CONTACT TO START THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HOUSING PIECE FOR THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
THE ENGINE SUDDENLY WENT FROM 70 MPH TO LIMP MODE AT ABOUT 900 RPM'S OR SO. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND IT WORKED NORMALLY ALLOWING ME TO ACCELERATE AND LEAVE THE EXPRESSWAY. I WAS NOT SURE WHAT HAD HAPPENED SO I DID NOT THINK ANYTHING OF IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR MORE TIMES SINCE. I THOUGHT AT FIRST THAT I HAD BAD GASOLINE BECAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON FOR THE SECOND INCIDENT AND THE CAR WAS LOW ON GAS. I LIMPED TO A GAS STATION THAT TIME AND FILLED THE TANK. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR EVERYTHING WORKED NORMALLY, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF. IN THE SUBSEQUENT INCIDENTS, I DID NOT NOTICE THE ENGINE LIGHT GOING ON. I JUST TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO LOSE POWER AT 70 MILES PER HOUR. IN ONE CASE I HAD JUST PAST A TRUCK ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY. I NOTICED THAT THIS SEEMS TO FALL UNDER YOUR NHTSA ACTION #:PE13003. *TR
