IN APRIL 2013 I NOTICED THAT MY LEFT BACK TAIL LIGHT WOULD GO OUT AND COME BACK ON INTERMITTENTLY. EVENTUALLY THE TAIL LIGHT STAYED ON, BUT IT WAS NOT A NORMAL TAIL LIGHT THE BRIGHTNESS INDICATED THAT IT WAS A BRAKE LIGHT. EVERY TIME I TURN ON MY LIGHTS THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES AS A TAIL LIGHT. NOW MARCH 2014 MY BRAKE LIGHT IN MY BACK WINDOW WENT OUT. I REPLACED THE BULB IN THIS LIGHT. TWO WEEKS AGO MAY 2014 MY TAIL LIGHT ON THE RIGHT SIDE WENT OUT AND WHEN I USED MY BRAKES THE RIGHT BRAKE WOULD BLINK LIKE A BLINKER. CURRENTLY TODAY. I HAVE A TAIL LIGHT ON THE LEFT THAT IS AS BRIGHT AS THE BRAKE, WHEN THE TAIL LIGHTS ARE ON I DON'T HAVE A BRAKE LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE OFF THE BRAKE LIGHT WORKS. ON THE RIGHT SIDE I DO NOT HAVE A TAIL LIGHT OR A BRAKE LIGHT. SO WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON, I HAVE ONE TAIL LIGHT OUT COMPLETELY. WHEN I HAVE MY TAIL LIGHTS ON THE ONLY BRAKE LIGHT I HAVE IS IN THE BACK WINDOW. I CALLED TODAY ABOUT REPLACEMENTS AND WAS QUOTED $376.20 A PIECE! THAT IS ONLY THE PART. I DID HAVE AN ELECTRICIAN FRIEND COME OUT AND TEST THE WIRING AND NOPE NOT THE WIRING, IT IS ALL IN THE LIGHT. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO GET THIS FIXED. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP! THIS IS THE 6TH FORD WE HAVE HAD. THIS IS THE ONLY ISSUE I HAVE EVER HAD. IF FORD DOES NOT TAKE REASONABILITY I WILL BE TRADING IT IN FOR A TOYOTA! *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR LOSES POWER. IT IS DANGEROUSLY CRIPPLED AS IT HAS TO BE STOPPED COMPLETELY AND PUT IN THE PARK POSITION BEFORE IT WILL RESTART. WHEN RESTARTING IF I TAKE MY HAND OFF THE KEY IT WILL CONTINUE TO TRY AND START THE ENGINE UNTIL IT STARTS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT EITHER COMES ON AND GOES OFF OR FAILS TO COME ON.. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING AT 65MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE WRENCH EMBLEM WENT ON MY DASHBOARD AND I LOST ACCELERATION. I HAD THE GAS PEDDLE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR BUT THERE WAS NO POWER. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND HOME. I HAVE READ SEVERAL SIMILAR ACCOUNTS AND AM SURPRISED THAT FORD HAS NOT HAD A RECALL DUE TO THIS ISSUE. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE FORD WILL PAY ATTENTION TO THIS DEFECT? *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY VEHICLE PULLS N HESITATES TO GO, AS I LOOK IN MY DASH A LITTLE WRENCH POPS UP.. MY CAR LOST ALL IT'S POWER AND WOULD NOT GO. I SET ON MY HAZARDS AND TURN MY VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE.. I CALL THE MERCURY DEALERSHIP AND SHE TELLS ME AS LONG AS THE WRENCH DID NOT POP UP WITH A CHECK ENGINE SIGN I WAS FINE. WELL WEEKS GO BY MY VEHICLE WAS FINE, THEN OUT OF THE BLUE IT DOES THE SAME THING, WRENCH POPS UP IN THE DASH AND MY VEHICLE GOES IN LIMP MODE... MIND YOU THIS STRIKES WITHOUT WARNING AND IS VERY DANGEROUS! THERE IS NO INDICATION WHEN AND HERE IT WILL HAPPEN. I TAKE IT TO THE PLACE I'VE ALWAYS TAKEN MY VEHICLES AND THEY TELL ME IT'S FINE, NO CODES IN THE DIAGNOSTICS..SO I PICK MY VEHICLE UP, TWO WEEKS LATER MY CAR STALLS OUT WITH A WRENCH AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I'VE ALMOST BEEN SLAMMED FROM BEHIND TWICE. I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE TRYING TO CHARGE ME 389.00 TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN A MANUFACTOR ERROR. THIS BY FAR IS NOT A PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE ISSUE, THIS IS BY FAR A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE HEARD A LOUD THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000. *TR
MY WIFE NOTICED APX 1 YEAR AGO THAT HER LEFT BRAKE LIGHT WAS NOT WORKING. WE DISCOVERED IT WAS LED & APPARENTLY THE COMPLETE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDS CHANGED. WE RECENTLY BROUGHT IT TO OUR FORD DEALERSHIPS' ATTENTION, BUT THEY SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX. ALTHOUGH, WE REALIZE THAT OCCASIONALLY, CHANGING LAMPS IS THE OWNERS RESPONSIBILITY, WE FEEL THAT CHANGING A VERY EXPENSIVE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY IS NOT THE NORM. THIS CAR HAS HAD NO WRECKS & NO AFTER MARKET DEVICES OF ANY KIND. PLEASE HELP!! THANK YOU *TR
I HAD JUST DROPPED MY WIFE OFF AT THE DOOR OF THE HIGH SCHOOL AND WENT TO PARK THE CAR. AS I WAS PULLING INTO THE PARKING SPACE, I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN TO PARK, THE CAR ACCELERATED AS IF I HAD MY FOOT TO THE FLOOR ON THE ACCELERATOR. IT HAPPENED SO FAST. I HIT A CONCRETE POST. THE CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING AFTER I HIT THE POST UNTIL I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE. I THEN PUT MY FOOT BACK ON THE BRAKE AND SHIFTED THE CAR INTO REVERSE. IT WORKED LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE. NOBODY WAS HURT. THE CAR HAD ALMOST $3000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS DAMAGED. THE OTHER TIMES THE CAR ACCELERATED LIKE THIS, WE THOUGHT WE WERE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. SO WE DIDN'T TURN IT IN. WE HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR AT LEAST 25 YEARS AND NEVER HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO US BEFORE. WE FIGURED THAT WE COULDN'T POSSIBLY HAVE OUR FOOT TOUCHING THE BRAKE LIGHTLY AND HAVE THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR. SOMEBODY COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR HURT SERIOUSLY. THE CAR ISN'T SAFE TO DRIVE. THE FORD GARAGE IS STATING THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY SAID THEY WERE CONCERNED ABOUT OUR SAFETY. THEY AREN'T WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *TR
PURCHASED THIS MILAN IN 2011 WITH 22K MILES. IMMEDIATELY NOTICED ISSUES WITH THE 6-SPEED 6F35 AUTOMATIC CAUSING THE CAR TO STOP ACCELERATING UNDER LOAD, LEAVING ME DEAD IN THE WATER WHEN MERGING IN TRAFFIC. I WAS NOT INFORMED THAT FORD ALREADY KNEW OF ISSUES AND I WAS IN AND OUT OF THE DEALER WITH NOTHING DONE, UNTIL THE TRANY HAD MORE DAMAGE. IT WAS REPAIRED BUT NEVER PROPERLY STRESS TESTED, BY EITHER OF TWO DEALERSHIPS I WENT TO. ACCORDING TO THE TSB IF THE TRANY EXHIBITED CERTAIN GRADES OF FAILURE, IT REQUIRED REPROGRAMMING AND THEN VALVE BODY REPLACEMENT, FOLLOWED BY A STRESS TEST TO VERIFY THERE WAS NOT ANY MORE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. THE MOST I GOT AFTER THE VALVE BODY WAS CHANGED WAS A SUGGESTION THAT I CHANGE MY TRANY FLUID THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN CHANGED BY FORD 20K MILES EARLIER. I THEN STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS (BRAKE/PARKING), WITH ONES FLICKERING INTERMITTENTLY IN THE COLD AND THEN DIEING COMPLETELY, OR GOING FULL INTENSITY AND NEVER SWITCHING BACK TO JUST PARKING LIGHT MODE. HAD TO REPLACE BOTH AT HIGH COST, FORD LISTS $400 EACH, BASICALLY FOR THE EQUIVALENT OF A $2 BULB. I AM AN EE, SPECIALIZING IN MANUFACTURING, AND AFTER TAKING ONE OF THE FAILING ONES APART FOUND IT IS WAS PROBABLY RELATED TO POOR PART CHOICE OR DESIGN. THERE WAS NOTHING DAMAGED DUE TO WATER OR IMPACT. I WOULD DUMP THIS VEHICLE, HOWEVER I STILL HAVE PAYMENTS AND ETHICALLY I CAN NOT SELL IT ON THE OPEN MARKET WORRYING SOMEBODY ELSE MAY HAVE A DANGEROUS ISSUE WITH IT DUE TO THE QUESTIONABLE TRANSMISSION. IF THE TRANSMISSION HAD ANY TYPE OVER STRESS THAT REQUIRED THE LEVEL IF TESTING MENTIONED IN THE TSB, WHICH IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DO IN VEHICLE, THE WHOLE TRANY SHOULD HAVE BEEN PULLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD ENTERED INTO LIMP MODE AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED WITHIN THE ENGINE SOLENOID GASKET. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SOLENOID GASKET WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL ON A HIGHWAY, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
STOPPED AT A LIGHT MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. PROCEEDED OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND CAR WOULD NOT SPEED UP, THEN MADE A JERKING MOVEMENT LIKE IT WAS STUCK IN GEAR. ALMOST REAR-ENDED. TOOK IT TO DEALER WHERE I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WHEN DRIVING TIRES ALWAYS SEEM LIKE IT IS ALWAYS ROCKING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. TIRES WERE ROTATED DURING REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND BALANCED BUT NOTHING SEEM TO HELP WHAT DO I DO. I LIKE THE CAR BUT WOULD LIKE TO LIVE TO. *TR
I WAS PULLED OVER BY POLICE FOR BURNT OUT TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY ...PASSENGER SIDE ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACED AT 42000 MILES AND NOW DRIVERS SIDE BURNT OUT AT 43000 MILES...FACTORY ONLY PART COST ME $432 AND NOW I'M LOOKING AT ANOTHER $432... I THOUGHT LED ASSEMBLIES WERE SUPPOSE TO LAST LONGER THAN BULBS.... NOT THE CASE IN 2010 MERCURY MILANS... THIS IS MY FIRST FORD AND MY LAST FORD!! *TR
VEHICLE STALLED AND THEN STOPPED WHILE IN TRAFFIC. RE-STARTED, TRAVELED SHORT DISTANCE, AND IT STOPPED AGAIN. THIS HAS CONTINUED TO OCCUR MANY TIMES WHILE APPROACHING INTERSECTIONS, PULLING ON HIGHWAY RAMPS, AND PULLING OUT OF INTERSECTIONS. I TOOK IT TO FORD (MERCURY) DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT REPEAT PROBLEM. NO CODE READING. CAR CONTINUED TO REPEAT PROBLEM NUMEROUS TIMES - NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NO OBD CODES ON READER. CAR FINALLY STOPPED COMPLETELY. DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS THROTTLE BODY. PART IS ON BACK ORDER - 6 MONTHS ANTICIPATED SINCE SO MANY (TOGETHER WITH FORD FUSION) HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I SEE FROM NHTSA COMPLAINTS THAT AT LEAST 35 HAVE BEEN REGISTERED ON MILAN. FORD SEEMS TO IGNORE THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS OR TO TAKE ANY CORRECTIVE ACTIONS. STARTED JUST AFTER PURCHASE (31,000 MILES). NOW HAD 41,000 MILES. *TR
MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN HYBRID WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JUNE, 2010. IN FEBRUARY, 2013, THE REAR, PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LIGHT WENT OUT. I TRIED TO BUY A REPLACEMENT BULB AT AN AUTO PARTS STORE ONLY TO DISCOVER THERE WAS NO REPLACEMENT PART NUMBER IN THEIR BOOKS FOR MY CAR. ON FEBRUARY 8, 2013, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE ENTIRE REAR LIGHT ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS A SEALED SYSTEM. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE WORK COULD BE DONE UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME. THEN IN JAN., 2015, A DRIVER WHO HAD BEEN BEHIND ME, KINDLY TOLD ME THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON ALL THE TIME. THERE ARE NUMEROUS POSTS ON THE INTERNET DESCRIBING BOTH PROBLEMS (BULB BURN OUT AND BRAKE LIGHTS STAYING ON). AGAIN, THE ENTIRE LIGHT ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP, THIS TIME AT MY EXPENSE. THE REPLACEMENT COST WAS $547.59. ON JANUARY 29, 2015, I PHONED FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO LODGE A COMPLAINT AND INQUIRE ABOUT A RECALL ON THESE INFERIOR LIGHT ASSEMBLIES, OR MONETARY SUPPORT FROM FORD ON THIS ISSUE. I WAS TOLD ALL COMPLAINTS TO THE MFG. ARE RECORDED AND TRACKED, BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. WAS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. SHE COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME RETROACTIVELY AND SUGGESTED I CALL THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE MANAGER TO SEE IF HE/SHE HAD ANY PROGRAMS IN PLACE TO HELP. (WOULDN'T THOSE PROGRAMS COME FROM THE MFG.??) I ASKED IF THE PART HAD BEEN REDESIGNED AND WAS TOLD THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE MANAGER WOULD HAVE THAT INFORMATION ALSO. I THEN SPOKE TO THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE MANAGER WHO TOLD ME THE PART NUMBER FOR THE ASSEMBLY HAS NOT CHANGED, INDICATING THE PROBLEMS HAVE NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. IT IS TOTALLY UNREASONABLE TO HAVE TO PAY ALMOST $550. TO CHANGE A FAILED TAIL LIGHT BULB, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE REPLACEMENT ASSEMBLIES HAVE THE SAME FLAW AND POTENTIAL TO FAIL AGAIN. I FEEL FORD SHOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND RECALL THE ASSEMBLIES. *TR
AFTER BEING TOLD ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT OUR LEFT TAIL LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT WAS NOT WORKING, ON 5/19/14 OUR 2010 MILAN WAS TAKEN IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENTANCE BY THE DEALER. AT THAT TIME,THEY WERE ASKED TO ADDRESS THE TAIL LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD 35,070 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND ALTHOUGH THE NEW CAR WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, WE HAD PURCHASED BOTH PREMIUM CARE AND ESP AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE TO THE TUNE OF OVER $2000. I WAS SHOCKED AND VERY ANGRY WHEN I WAS INFORMED THAT THE LEFT LED TAIL LIGHT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $400 AND IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER EITHER PROGRAM. SUBSEQUENTLY, IN CHECKING THE SMALL PRINT, I DISCOVERED THAT LED LIGHTS WERE INDEED EXCLUDED UNDER EITHER PROGRAM. CHECKING FURTHER, I FOUND THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF WHAT CERTAINLY APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND A SAFETY ISSUE REGARDING THE LED TAIL LIGHTS THE FORD DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR DID NOT SEEM BE SURPRISED AT MY OUTRAGE SINCE THIS SEEMINGLY IS A PROBLEM THAT HE EVIDENTLY HAS DEALT WITH BEFORE. NOW IT APPEARS MY RIGHT BRAKE LIGHT IS STAYING LIT AND DOES NOT FUNCTION WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED AND I COULD BE FACED WITH A $1000 REPAIR BILL. EVIDENTLY FORD IS GOING TO HAVE TO BE FORCED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. ONE COULD BE DRIVING ALONG WITHOUT KNOWING THEIR STOP/BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING SINCE THERE IS NO VISUAL ALERT ON THE MESSAGE CENTER AND WONDER WHY THEY WERE SUDDENLY REAR-ENDED BY A FOLLOWING VEHICLE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. BESIDES THE EXPENSE TO THE OWNER, THERE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED! THE LACK OF BRAKE LIGHTS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY AND OR DEATH AND CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE. THE PROBLEM IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN MATERIALS IF NOT WORKMANSHIP AND THE COMPANY IS CLEARLY LIABLE. THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF LED LIGHT STRIPS IS CERTAINLY MUCH LONGER THAN THE ORDINARY LIGHT BULB, SO WHAT IS GOING ON? *TR
WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR STARTED SHAKING AND SPUTTERING AND WOULD NOT ADVANCE AND I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. ALSO THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LAMP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A FAULTY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30000.
I WAS DRIVING MY MERCURY MILAN WHEN IT STARTING SURGING AND THEN LOST ALL POWER.SINCE THAT DATE IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME AT LEAST 50 MORE TIMES, SOME WORSE THEN OTHERS.THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT HAS HAPPENED AS I HAVE ENTERED INTERSECTIONS, PUTTING MY LIFE IN DANGER OF BEING HIT !! I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER BUT THEY SAID IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO IT WOULD COST OVER $600 WHICH I DO NOT HAVE.THIS IS MAKING ME SICK AS NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR EVEN THOUGH I HAVE TO IN ORDER TO GET BACK AND FORTH FROM WORK!! *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL AT ABOUT 60 MPH AND THE CAR WOULD JERK AND THEN WOULD LOOSE POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WOULD BE IN IDLE MODE AND I WOULD HAVE TO STOP AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES BEFORE I TRY TO START IT AGAIN. THE SECOND IS INCIDENT WAS BASICALLY THE SAME ONLY AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION. THE THIRD I WAS IN TOWN GOING ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN THE CAR JERKED AGAIN AND WENT INTO IDLE MODE. THE NEXT FEW TIME THAT IT HAPPENED I HAD A VERY HARD TIME GETTING IT STARTED AND MOVING AGAIN. ONCE I DID GET IT STARTED I WOULD ONLY BE ABLE TO GO A COUPLE OF BLOCKS BEFORE THE CAR WOULD JERK AND GO INTO IDLE MODE. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2010 MERCURY MILAN IN DEC OF 2012 WITH 26000 MILES. A FEW WEEKS AFTER I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CODE THAT CAME UP WAS EMISSIONS. THEY REPLACED THE CAR BATTERY AND SUPPOSEDLY CHECKED AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE WRONG WITH THE CAR. ALL THEY EVER ASK ME IS DO I ALWAYS GO TO THE SAME GAS STATION OR IF IT HAPPENS AFTER I GET GAS AT WHICH I ANSWERED NO. IT'S NOW BEEN LESS THEN A YEAR SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THE LIGHT HAS COME BACK ON 5 TIMES. I'M SURE IF I TOOK THE CAR IN AS SOON AS THE LIGHT CAME ON IT WOULD BE MORE TIMES BUT I DON'T ALWAYS HAVE THE TIME AND SCHEDULE AND THEY DON'T ALWAYS HAVE A LOANER RIGHT AWAY SO AT TIMES IT TAKES ME OVER A MONTH TO TAKE IT IN. WHILE DRIVING ON I-95 AT 70 MPH SUDDENLY LOST POWER. WAS ABLE TO COAST ONTO AN EXIT RAMP. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE START TEH VEHICLE AND DROVE A SHORT DISTANCE ON CITY STREET AT 45 MPH WHEN VEHICLE DECELERATED AGAIN AND STALLED. WHEN CALLED DEALER INDICATED IT WAS LIKLEY A FAILED THROTTLE BODY, SUGGESTING IT IS NOT AN UNUSUAL PROBLEM. WHEN TOWED TO THE SHOP, THEY DID DETERMIN THE PROBELM WAS TEH THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED IT. REPAIR WAS $550. FORTUNATELY THIS OCCCURED DURING THE DAY, BUT WAS ON A HEAVILY TRAVELED HIGHWAY AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY WITH THE SUDDEN LOSS IN SPEED.
CAR WOULD OCCASIONALLY STALL, THEN RESTART. WOULD BECOME MORE FREQUENT OVER TIME UNTIL CAR WOULD STALL AFTER ONLY DRIVING A BLOCK. *TR
IN EARLY DECEMBER, I CLICKED THE DOOR OPEN BUTTON IN THE DARK AND NOTICED THE RIGHT REAR TAIL LIGHT WAS ONLY HALF LIT. I WENT TO THE MANUAL TO SEE WHAT BULB IT WAS, FIGURING THAT I COULD BUY A NEW ONE AND CHANGE IT. THE MANUAL SAID TO BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALER. I DECIDED THAT I WOULD BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHEN THE NEXT OIL CHANGE WAS DUE. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN ON JANUARY 9TH AND WAS TOLD THAT BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT TAIL LIGHTS HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST WOULD BE $1,100. THE TIME OF THIS SERVICE WAS TWO MONTHS AND LESS THAN TWO THOUSAND MILES PAST THE BASIC WARRANTY. I WAS SHOCKED AND VERY UNHAPPY AS I FELT THAT THIS WAS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AS THE LEDS SHOULD LAST 10,000 HOURS OR MORE. THESE HAD, AT MOST, 700 HOURS. THE DEFECT MAY WELL HAVE OCCURRED DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD, BUT I NEVER NOTICED IT AS NO INDICATOR LIGHT EVER WENT ON. THE SERVICE REP AND SERVICE MANAGER CONTACTED FORD AND THERE WAS AN ADJUSTMENT MADE WHERE I PAID 30% OR $325. *TR

LATER WHILE THE CONTACT WAS COMPLETING A TURN, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN CONTRIBUTED TO THE GASOLINE BEING USED IN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE LATER RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
CARRIED MY MILAN PREMIER FOR ITS REQUIRED ANNUAL STATE OF NC INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE FAILED THE INSPECTION DUE TO THE FOLLOWING: THE REAR LED LIGHTS GLOWED IN THE BRAKE LIGHT MODE WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WERE TURNED ON. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE SMALL REAR LIGHT BELOW THE REAR SPOILER CAME ON. BOTH REAR LAMP ASSEMBLIES HAD TO BE REPLACED BY A FORD DEALER. WITHOUT THE INSPECTION I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN THE PROBLEM EXISTED. A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET INDICATES MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH MILAN PREMIER LED LIGHTS. THIS IS MY FIRST VEHICLE WITH LED LIGHTS. THEY ARE NEVER LIT LIKE REGULAR TAIL LIGHTS AND IT ALWAYS LOOKS LIKE MY BRAKES ARE ON. WHEN I TOOK THEM TO MY MECHANIC, I WAS TOLD I NEEDED BOTH TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES. THE PLACE I GOT THE TAIL LIGHTS CHARGED ME $279.63 PER LIGHT, I HAD TO HAVE BOTH TAIL LIGHTS REPLACED, TOTAL COST TO ME, $559.26. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN SINCE 2012 AND I WAS NOT AWARE OF IT SINCE I AM NOT BEHIND THE CAR AND JUST NEEDED TO HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED. THEN HE DISCONNECTED THE HOSE TO THE THROTTLE VALVE AND WHEN HE PUSHED IT WITH THE SCREWDRIVER THE ENGINE REGAINED POWER. I TURNED AROUND TO TRY AND MEET MY HUSBAND AT A MIDWAY POINT. THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AGAIN BUT AFTER RESTARTING, IT REGAINED POWER. I SWITCHED CARS WITH MY HUSBAND AND HE SPRAYED THE THROTTLE VALVE WITH CARBURETOR CLEANER AND HEADED HOME. THE CAR STALLED OUT ON HIM BUT HE WAS ABLE TO ROLL INTO A GAS/CONVENIENCE STORE IN GARRISON NY AND SPRAYED IT AGAIN. ONCE HOME IN COLD SPRING HE CLEANED OUT THE ASSEMBLY AS GOOD AS HE COULD AND THE CAR WORKED WELL FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. WHILE VISITING HUNGARY FOR A FAMILY ILLNESS, MY SON USED THE CAR AND REPORTED THAT IT BEGAN TO STALL OUT ON HIM BUT UNSTUCK? AND HE WAS ABLE TO RETURN HOME. THEY THEN TOOK A TAILLIGHT OUT OF ANOTHER MERCURY MILAN ON THEIR LOT AND PUT IT IN MY CAR, WHICH WORKED, BUT THEN DIDN'T ON THE OTHER CAR. THE MECHANIC I SPOKE WITH SAID THEY HAD NOT SEEN THIS BEFORE, BUT HAD NEVER LOOKED FOR IT BECAUSE NO ONE HAD BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION, HE REPORTED THAT HE WAS GOING TO CHECK ALL THE CARS ON THEIR LOT AND WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY ISSUE, THAT I COULD HAVE VERY EASILY HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN THE BRAKE LIGHTS. WE WERE ALMOST KILLED AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO GET DONE AT FORDS COST NOT THE PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT THEY HAD A SAFE CAR. *TR
WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT FOR THE TRANSMISSION CAME ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. WE WERE AT AN INTERSECTION ON A 6-LANE HIGHWAY OVER 600 MILES FROM HOME. WE WERE ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY BY DRIFTING OFF TO A SIDE ROAD. THE ENGINE NEVER DIED, BUT HAD NO POWER AT ALL. AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND STARTING IT BACK UP, IT RAN FINE AND WAS ABLE TO GET US HOME. HOWEVER, WITHIN ANOTHER COUPLE OF MONTHS IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN WHILE WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY APPROACHING MERGING TRAFFIC. WE WERE ABLE TO DRIFT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND START IT BACK UP. A MECHANIC CHECKED THE CAR, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETECT ANYTHING WRONG. IT DROVE FINE FOR ANOTHER 3-4 MONTHS THEN DID THE SAME THING AGAIN ONLY WE WERE ON AN INTERSTATE AND HARDLY HAD TIME TO DRIFT INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE BETWEEN TRAFFIC. IT AGAIN DID THIS AROUND 3 MONTHS AS I JUST MADE IT ACROSS THE HIGHWAY INTO THE RIGHT LANE. I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO DRIFT INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND START THE CAR UP. I TOOK IT HOME UNTIL WE COULD GET IT TO THE MECHANIC. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND HE AGAIN WAS UNABLE TO DETECT ANYTHING. HE KEPT THE CAR TO DRIVE HIMSELF FOR A WEEK, BUT NEVER WITNESSED THE WRENCH LIGHT COMING ON OR SLUGGISH GEAR CHANGING. HE ADDED FLUID TO IT AT A LACK OF KNOWING WHAT ELSE TO DO. WE DROVE IT CLOSE TO 2 MONTHS NOW AND IT LOST POWER WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT COMING ON 3 TIMES WITHIN A PERIOD OF 40 MINUTES ON A SMALL ROAD WHERE WE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH ROOM TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC AND ON THE HIGHWAY JUST AFTER PULLING ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY WAITING TO BE LOOKED AT AGAIN BY THE MECHANIC. THIS ISSUE IS NOT SHOWING UP ON COMPUTERS. IT HAS BEEN VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND I FEEL UNSAFE ALL THE TIME AS I'M WAITING FOR THE NEXT INCIDENT AND FEAR I WILL NOT BE AS LUCKY AT SOME POINT AMONG TRAFFIC. *TR

THE CONTACT SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, WHICH THEN RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
#1:SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE MILAN THE CAR BEGAN TO JUST SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WOULD HAVE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAIT A FEW MINUTES & THEN IT WOULD RESTART. I AGAIN HAD IT TAKEN TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. NOW I AM HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEGAN AGAIN. I AGAIN TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER & THEY COULDN'T FIX ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO MIMIC THE PROBLEM.I HAVE 2 YOUNG CHILDREN AND DURING ONE OF THE FAILURES I WAS TRAVELING ON A RURAL COUNTRY ROAD WITH NOWHERE TO PULL OFF DUE TO STONE MOUNTAINS ON EACH SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD TO WAIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD A FEW MINUTES UNTIL THE CAR WOULD COOPERATE AND START AGAIN. THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WE ALL COULD'VE BEEN KILLED AND NOBODY WOULD EVER BE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE ACCORDING TO THESE TECHNICIANS THE CAR IS FINE. IT NEEDS TO BE KNOWN THAT THE CAR IS NOT FINE AND IS DANGEROUS TO THE DRIVERS AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS ON THE ROAD ALONGSIDE THESE CARS. #2:ALSO, SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE MILAN I WAS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING IT STARTED IN THE MORNING. THE CAR WOULD SIMPLY NOT START, WOULDN'T EVEN TRY TO TURN OVER, THE MESSAGE BOARD WOULD SAY SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC THE OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE CAR WORKED FINE, THE CAR COULDN'T BE "JUMPED" EITHER. AFTER A FEW HOURS IT WOULD START UP FINE. TOOK THE CAR TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE KEYS AND NOW A YEAR LATER I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SINCE THE CENTER STATES THEY CANNOT GET THE CAR TO MIMIC THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR IS AT THE CENTER THEY HAVEN'T FIXED ANYTHING. AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK I HAVE THIS HAPPEN AND HAVE TO USE AN ALTERNATE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. MY CAR NOW HAS 38,000 MILES ON IT BUT THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN HAPPENING SINCE ABOUT 24000. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH AND THE CAR SEEMED TO STALL. I LOST POWER AND COASTED TO A STOP. I COULD PUSH THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR HAD ENOUGH POWER TO CRAWL FORWARD. I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND THAT CLEARED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM CAME BACK A FEW DAYS LATER. AGAIN I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND THE PROBLEM CLEARED. AFTER THIS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME I TOOK THE CAR TO A FRIEND WHO OWNS A MECHANICS SHOP. HE HOOKED UP THE CAR TO HIS COMPUTER AND HE RETRIEVED A CODE FOR THE PROBLEM. AFTER RECEIVING THE CODE I CALLED THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THE CODE WAS FOR THE THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER TOLD ME FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE INITIAL OCCURRENCE I LOST POWER AGAIN AND I TURNED THE KEY OFF, THE PROBLEM CLEARED BUT ONLY LONG ENOUGH TO DRIVE ANOTHER MILE AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. LUCKILY I WAS IN TOWN AND I FOUND THE CLOSEST MECHANICS SHOP TO TAKE IT TOO. *TR
THE PROBLEM STARTED ALMOST A YEAR AGO BUT DID NOT SEEM TO OCCUR ALL THE TIME. FROM TAKE OFF, THE CAR WOULD STALL AND THEN RE-ENGAGE WITH GUSTO. UP UNTIL THE OTHER DAY THE CAR LOST ALL POWER BUT WAS IDLING. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY, ATTEMPTED TO LISTEN TO WHAT I HEARD AND THOUGHT IT WAS A BAD GAS ISSUE AND NOTICED THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ON. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTARTED TO HAVE FULL GAS PEDAL RESPONSE BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. I PROCEEDED DOWN THE ROAD TO THE INTERSTATE BUT DECIDED TO GET SOME FUEL (3/8 OF A TANK EXISTED) AND SOME FUEL ADDITIVE. THE CAR STOPPED AND STARTED WITHOUT AVAIL, AS I ENTERED THE INTERSTATE 30 RAMP THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AGAIN. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER AND REPEATED THE PREVIOUS RESTART. I CALLED LANDERS FORD IN BENTON, AR AND TOLD THEM THE ISSUE AND WOULD BE BRINGING THE CAR INTO THE FACILITY. NOT WANTING TO GET BACK ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND POSSIBLY CAUSING A WRECK OR TRAFFIC BLOCKAGE, I DROVE USING THE OUTER ROAD, THE ISSUE OCCURRED AT LEAST TWICE WHILE EN-ROUTE. THIS IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM AS MY GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED AND COULD BE A MAJOR HIGHWAY SAFETY ISSUE FOR SOMEONE LIVING WITHIN THE MAJOR AREAS OF AMERICA. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, AND THE BBB. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEED REPLACEMENT WITH NEWER VEHICLES AND MUST BE A KNOWN ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS LISTED AS "NOT COVERED" UNDER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY! *TR
