2000 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER HAVING PROBLEMS WITH REAR AXLE THUMPING NOISE WHEN MAKE A TURN. *BF WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OUT ON THE REAR TIRE, THE AXLE MOVED AND MADE A KNOCKING SOUND. *SC
THIS HAS TO BE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED. THE RADIO DISPLAY GOES ON WHEN IT WANTS, IT MAKES TERRIBLE NOISES, RIDES TERRIBLE AND IT DEPRECIATES TERRIBLE. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT AGAIN. THIS IS A TERRIBLE CAR. ANYONE THAT WANTS TO BUY ONE SHOULD NOT, IT LOOKS LIKE A CLASSY SUV BUT IT IS A BIG PIECE OF JUNK.*AK
CONSUMER NOTICED AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF FLUID IN THE DRIVEWAY WHICH DID NOT APPEAR TO BE OIL. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT HEAD GASKET BLEW OUT. CONSUMER HAD THE REPAIRS DONE. LESS THAN TWO MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING , THE GEARS WOULD NOT CONNECT PROPERLY. CONSUMER HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DOWN SHIFTED TO LOW RANGE. *AK THE 4WD AND OVERDRIVE LIGHTS WHERE FLASHING AND WHINING ALONG WITH AN ALARM SOUND COMING FROM THE DASH. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF AND THE KEY WAS REMOVED, BUT THE WHINING SOUND CONTINUED. *SC THE CONSUMER DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND THE NOISE STOPPED. *JB
THE SPEED CONTROL OF MY 2000 MERCURY MOUNTINEER, STICKS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO EXCERLERATE OUT OF CONTROL THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO SLIP THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES AND IS GETTING MORE FRQUENT. I HAVE REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER (SELLERS SEXTON WAYNESVILLE, MO) THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG AND THEY CANT FIND A PROBLEM.*AK
THE DISPLAY SCREEN ON THE STEREO SYSTEM NO LONGER WORKS. AT TIMES IT COMES ON FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN GOES OUT AGAIN. THIS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW WHAT STATION IT IS ON, THE TIME, ADJUSTING THE SETTINGS ON THE SPEAKERS, ETC. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHERS THAT HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. *LA
MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE SEAT. *CB
WE WERE REAR ENDED AND BOTH SEATS BROKE, FLINGING US INTO THE BACK SEAT. WE THEN WENT INTO THE ONCOMING LANE (BECAUSE MY WIFE COULD NO LONGER REACH THE STEERING WHEEL OR THE BRAKES) AND WERE HIT HEAD ON. COMPLAINT #1 - THE SEATS SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN. COMPLAINT #2 - THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED.*AK
DRIVERS SEAT LEATHER IS TORN. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WAS INFORMED THAT IT'S A MANUFACTURING DEFECT "OVERSTITCHED" BUT THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND RECEIVED A PHONE CALL INFORMING ME THAT "THEY WOULD HAVE TO SIDE WITH THE DEALERSHIP, NOT TO FIX THE SEAT"
THE DAY AFTER TAKING VEHICLE FROM DEALER RADIO LCD SCREEN FLASHED BRIGHT LIKE A PHOTO BULB AND HAS BEEN OUT EVER SINCE, THERE WAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE.*AK
REAR SEAT BELT WILL NOT RELEASE FOR MORE ROOM CAUSING DISCOMFORT FOR THE CONSUMER. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
ENGAGING THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL CAUSES SMOKE TO BE EMITTED FROM THE EMERGENCY FLASHER SWITCH HOUSING ON TOP OF THE STEERING COLUMN. *TT
WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO STOP ON A DRY DAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH MY BRAKES DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. THEY GRABBED AND THEN RELEASED WITH A FORWARD MOTION. I CONTINUED TO APPLY PRESSURE WITH BOTH FEET AND THE BRAKES STILL REACTED IN THE SAME FASHION. SUBSEQUENTLY I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE MERCURY DEALER AND THEY STATED THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I AM CONCERNED AND ACTUALLY WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING MY CAR. *TT
LCD DISPLAY ON STEREO/CLOCK ONLY WORKS OCCASIONALLY MOST OF THE TIME THERE IS NOT A TIME DISPLAY AVAILABLE. AND WE HAVE VARIOUS GAUGES THAT WILL NOT WORK AND THEN WILL WORK FOR A BRIEF TIME AND THEN AGAIN STOP WORKING. *JB
STEREO SYSTEM CONSOLE LIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT ... IT HAS BEEN OUT FOR A LONG TIME.. NOW IT COMES ON WHEN IT WANTS TO. AND ITS ON FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES AND GOES OUT AGAIN AND STAYS OUT A WHOLE DAY AND COMES ON THE NEXT DAY FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES. MY NEIGHBOR HAS THE SAME VEHICLE AND HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *LA

THROTTLE BODY WAS COVERED WITH CARBON THAT CAUSED THE ACCELERATOR TO STICK WHILE DRIVING.*AK THIS CONDITION ALSO CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SURGE FORWARD OR BACKWARDS WHEN ADDITIONAL PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO RELEASE THE STUCK PEDAL. CLEANING OF THE THROTTLE BODY SEEMED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *TS *NLM
MY 2000 MOUNTAINEER HAD 17,000 WHEN PURCHASED. I HAD NOTICED THE DEALER HAD JUST PUT NEW 235/75R15 GOODYEAR WRANGLER R/TS ON IT. I WAS NOT SUSPICIOUS BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. EVER SINCE PURCHASED I HAVE HAD A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END AND MY FRONT TIRES HAVE WORN ON THE INSIDE AL THE WAY DOWN TO A UNSAFE TREAD DEPTH WITHIN 10,000 MILES. THE DEALER ALLIGNED THE FRONT AND CHECKED FOR FRONT END PROBLEMS TWO DAYS AFTER PURCHASE. AT THAT TIME THEY FOUND IT WAS OUT BUT CLAIMED THEY HAD JUST ALLIGNED IT THREE DAYS BEFORE ALSO. AT AROUND 30,000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT TIRES BECAUSE THEY WERE UNSAFE. I TOOK THEM TO THE DEALER AND THE GM TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL TIRE WEAR. I KNOW QUITE A BIT ABOUT CARS BUT HE DID NOT KNOW THAT. AT THAT TIME THEY CHECKED THE FRONT END ALLIGNMENT AGAIN AND CHECK FOR PROBLEMS AGAIN AND FOUND NOTHING. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE VBRATION GOT WORSE SO I JACKED IT UP MYSELF AND FOUND THAT THE ONE A-ARM NUT WAS LOOSE. I TIGHTEND IT AND DROVE BACK TO THE DEALERAND SHOWED ONE OF THEIR MECHANICS THE PROBLEM. IT HAD LOOSEND UP AGAIN ALREADY SO HE TIGHTEND ALL THE A-ARM NUTS. ILEFT AND WITHIN 10 MILES ONE WAS LOOSE AGAIN. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM TO REPLACE ALL THE A-ARM BOLTS AND NUTS. I HAVE SINCE WENT THROUGH 2 MORE SETS OF FRONT TIRES ,SO THAT IS 4 SETS OF TIRES IN 63,000 MILES, BUT THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG . WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT THEY DIDN'T HOLD. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE BRAKE CALIPERS FREEZING UP AND GETTING HOT WHICH RESULTED IN THE SEALS FAILING. *NLM ROTORS, PADS AND SHOES WERE REPLACED. *TT

THE CAR WOULDN'T START SO I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TECHNICIAN TRIED IT AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP FOR HIM. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I'M NOT SURE IF I HAVE IT RIGHT BUT I WAS TOLD THE REASON IT DIDN'T START WAS I HAD THE WRONG TYPE OF FUEL, WINTER VERSES SUMMER. THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED AFTER THUNDER STORMS DURING THE NIGHT. THERE'S BEEN QUITE A FEW TIMES WHEN THE CAR DIDN'T START UP ON THE FIRST TURN OF THE KEY BUT I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT. THERE WAS ANOTHER TIME WHEN IT DIDN'T WANT TO START BUT EVENTUALLY DID. IT WAS A RAINY, SNOWY NIGHT. THIS LAST TIME WHEN IT DIDN'T START IT HAD RAINED ALSO. I'M WONDERING IF IT HAS MORE TO DO WITH THE RAIN AND NOT THE FUEL.*AK
CONSUMER STATED DRIVER SIDE SEAT MOTOR HAD DIED. VEHICLE WAS SERVICED. TECHNICIAN NOTICED VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED WITH THE WRONG MOTOR. MR *TT
WITH BRAKES APPLIED ATTEMPTING TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND WAS OUT OF CONTROL AND STRUCK A LIGHT POLE, WENT OVER CONCRETE BARRIER ONTO NEXT STREET, AND NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. *AK CONSUMER ALSO COMPALINED SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THE BRAKES. *TT
WHILE APPLYING BRAKES, VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE, FORCED VEHICLE OUT OF CONTROL INTO SEVERE ACCIDENT. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK CONSUMER STATES WHILE PROCEEDING TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK, IT LUNGED FORWARD, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND ONE INJURY. *SLC
OWN A 2000 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WITH ALL WHEEL DRIVE & 4.0 V8 ENGINE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND LIGHT MALFUNCTION AT TIMES ("LOCK UP") WHERE THEY WILL NOT WORK AT ALL. SEE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 00V072000. LOCAL DEALER & MERCURY REFUSE TO ADMIT AND/OR FIX THE PROBLEM. *NLM
WHILE LEAVING PARKING LOT, ACCELERATER PEDAL BECAME STUCK. DRIVER CAME TO A STOP BY HITTING OTHER CARS. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CAUSE UNKNOWN. *AK *TT

CONSUMER NOTICED WHILE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED GAS PEDAL WOULD STICK. DEALER HAVE BEEN CONTACTED. MR THIS CONDITION INCREASED TO 2 TO 4 TIMES A DAY. DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. *TT
CONSUMER STATED UPON STARTING VEHICLE, VEHICLE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. DEALER WAS CONTACTED. ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MR *TT
THE PROBLEMS HAVE EXISTED SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. AT 55/60 MILES THE FRONT END STARTS BUMPING UP AND DOWN TO THE POINT IT'S UNSAFE. THE DEALER HAS CHANGED THE TIRES AND THE DRIFTSHAFT ASSEMBLY, BUT THE PROBLEMS PERSISTS. BOTH THE DEALER AND THE FORD REP. SAY THIS IS A NORMAL PART OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, BUT WHEN THE TRUCK IS VIBRATING AND BUMPING ON THE HIGHWAY I DO NOT BELIEVE IT'S NORMAL. OTHER MOUNTAINEENER DRIVERS TELL ME THIS IS NOT NORMAL. JUST THIS PAST WEEK THE GOODYEAR DEALER IDENTIFIED A BAD TIRE AND REPLACED IT. GOODYEARS SAYS I ALSO HAVE TWO BENT RIMS AND THE LINCOLN DEALER SAYS I DON'T. THEY DID REPLACE THE TWO FRONT RIMS BECAUSE GOODYEAR IDENTIFIED THE FACT THAT ALL FOUR RIMS WERE/ARE BENT. I AM CONTINUING TO WORK WITH THE DEALER BUT FEEL THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE DOCUMENTED AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS DATA CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. THE FORD REG. REP AND THE FORD SERVICE DEPT. HAVE SAID POINT BLANK THEIR RESPONSIBILITY IS TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL DEALER. WHERE DOES A CONSUMER GET HELP?*AK
I HAD A BLOW OUT WITH THE FIRESTONE RECALLED TIRES. THE RIM CRACKED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT I MUST OF HIT SOMETHING TO CRACK THE RIM AND CAUSE THE FLAT BECAUSE THER WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TIRE. I DID NOT! I SAID THE THE RIMS MAY BE DEFECTIVE OR IT WAS CAUSED BY THE UNSAFE TIRES. THEY DISMISSED IT RIGHT AWAY. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND GOT TANGLED UP IN ALOT OF RED TAPE. I HEARD ON THE RADIO THAT THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION INTO 2002 MY FORD EXPLORERS AND MERCURY MOUNTAINEERS. I HAVE A 2000 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER THAT SEEMS TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES SUDDEN ACCELERATION, CONSUMER CHANGED FLOOR MATS BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THEY WERE GETTING UNDER THE ACCELERATOR, HOWEVER AFTER THE CHANGE IT HAPPENED AGAIN CAUSING A REAR END COLLISION, DEALER CAN NOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. *SLC

FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES WERE INCLUDED IN RECALL 00T005, HOWEVER CONSUMER REPLACED TIRES AFTER HEARING NOTHING FROM FIRESTONE AND REQUESTS A REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL 5 TIRES. *SLC
FIRESTONE RECALLED WILDERNESS AT FROM DECATUR, MY TIRES WERE NOT RECALLED. BECAUSE OF TIRE LOSING AIR PRESSURE AND BECOMING FLAT, I DID NOT FEEL SAFE AND PURCHASED 5 NEW TIRES; FIRESTONE AND FORD REFUSES TO GIVE ME ANY SATISFACTION IN THIS MATTER, AS NEITHER OF THEM WILL REIMBURSE MY $571.00 TO REPLACE FIRESTONE TIRES!!!( DOT NUMBER: ?? CONSUMER NOTICED WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD TRAVEL TO FLOOR BOARD. DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND REPLACED BRAKES. MR CONSUMER FELT BRAKES FAILED PREMATURELY. AFTER ONLY 8 MONTHS BRAKES STARTED TO SQUEAK. *TT
LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF VEHICLE WHEN 2 RIGHT-SIDE TIRES BLEW OUT OFF RIMS AND LEFT ME TO DRIVE ON ONLY THE RIMS.*AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P255/70R16 )
WHILE SITTING IN DRIVE IE: AT A LIGHT THE CAR WILL START TO RACE AND THEN ACCELERATE AND TAKE OFF THE BRAKES WILL NOT STOP THE CAR. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE CAR IS TO PUT THROW IT INTO PARK. THE FIRST TWO TIMES IT HAPPENED I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING I HAD DONE. HOWEVER ON THE THIRD TIME WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY THE CAR TOOK OFF AND SHOOT ACROSS THE STREET I WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP IT AFTER ENTERING MY NEIGHBORS' FRONT LAWN. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT NO CARS WERE COMING DOWN THE STREET AND NO CHILDREN WERE NEARBY. HOWEVER IT DID TAKE DOWN PART OF MY DRIVEWAY FENCE. OF COURSE IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG . THEN A WEEK AND A HALF LATER IT HAPPENS AGAIN WHILE SITTING AT A LIGHT TWICE. THE DEALER HAD MY CAR SINCE THURS AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG I'M AFRAID TO GO AND GET IT. *AK
WATER LEAKAGE IN INTERIOR OF VEHICLE IS A HEALTH HAZARD DUE TO MOLD ISSUES, ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN. SICKNESS FROM MOLD CAN BE A LIFELONG AFFLICTION. IT IS A HEALTH SAFETY ISSUE. WATER LEAKING INTO THE INTERIOR OF A CAR, WHETHER BY DEFECTIVE ASSEMBLY OR DEFECTIVE DESIGN, SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD (AND PROBABLY OTHER MAKE) VEHICLES THAT HAVE MOONROOFS OR SUNROOFS. THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO STOP THIS. FORD'S IMPLICIT DENIAL OF BLAME IS A MORAL FAILURE. THE FOLLOWING WAS SENT TO FORD... WHAT IS YOUR VEHICLE SALES OR SERVICE ISSUE?:MY 2000 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER HAS BEEN LEAKING IN THE INTERIOR FROM A KINKED MOONROOF DRAIN HOSE. I TOOK IT TO A BODYSHOP TO BE REPAIRED. THE DRAIN HOSE WAS PERMANENTLY KINKED FROM SLOPPY ASSEMBLY. THE DRAIN HOSE HAD TO BE REPLACED. WHAT ACTION HAS YOUR DEALER TAKEN TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE?:MY DEALER SAW THE DRAIN HOSE AND AGREED IT WAS A FACTORY ASSEMBLY DEFECT. THEY GAVE ME THE 1-800-392-3673 AND TOLD ME TO CONTACT THAT NUMBER FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE COST TO REPAIR. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROTOCOL OR RECALL TO ADDRESS THE DRAIN HOSE ISSUE. RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS TO BE A NOT UNCOMMON PROBLEM WITH EXPLORERS AND MOUNTAINEERS. CONSUMER'S DAUGHTER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35MPH AND WAS PROCEEDING INTO THE INTERSECTION WHILE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, ANOTHER VEHICLE VEERED INTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE.
