TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE TWO FRONT SEAT BELTS WERE REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER, HE DROVE OVER A BUMP AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FRONT SEAT BELTS WERE REPLACED AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT WHEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT DISPLAYS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IS INOPERATIVE. FORD HAS A REPAIR BULLETIN THAT STATES THAT THE WIRING HARNESS FROM THE MAIN HARNESS TO THE DETONATOR IS NON-FUNCTIONAL. THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS CURRENTLY ILLUMINATED. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,245 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,520.
I OWN A 2002 MECURY MOUNTAINEER AND AT 49000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED. IT WILL NOT SHIFT TO 3RD GEAR. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME OUT IN ANY WAY WITH THE EXPENSES. I WAS TOLD BY THE TRANSMISSION SHOP THAT THEY ARE STARTING TO SEE SEVERAL TRANSMISSIONS GO BAD AT A VERY LOW MILAGE THAT HAS THE TRANSMISSION 5R55W IN IT. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A FORD RECALL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS IN TWO ACCIDENTS AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. IN THE FIRST ACCIDENT WHICH OCCURRED IN JULY 2005, THE VEHICLE WAS STOLEN WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE SECOND ACCIDENT IN OCTOBER 2006, THE VEHICLE WAS HIT AT AN INTERSECTION AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE OTHER VEHICLE RAN A RED LIGHT AT 50 MPH WHEN IT IMPACT THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS IMMOBILE. THE OTHER VEHICLE FLIPPED OVER AND THERE WERE THREE INJURIES. THERE WERE NO INJURIES IN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO, DURING OR AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE SERVICE DEALER AFTER THE FIRST ACCIDENT WHO DETERMINED THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRBAGS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER AFTER THE SECOND ACCIDENT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED.
DT: THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD WAS PEELING. THE VEHICE HAD LESS THAN 50,000 MILES. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD THE CONSUMER HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. *AK
ON NATIONAL TV THERE WAS A RECALL FOR FORD EXPEDITION REGARDING WATER LEAKING FROM THE WINDSHIELD WITH THE INTERIOR BEING SOAKED ON A RAINY DAY. I OWN A MERCURY MOUNTAINEER 2002, AND AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS, AND UNTIL RECENTLY IT HAS WORSENED. WHEN I CALLED FORD ON 6/22/05, THEY EXPLAINED THAT MY VEHICLE ID WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE HAVING THIS INVESTIGATED SINCE IT SEEMED TO BE QUITE DANGEROUS FOR A WINDSHIELD TO BE LEAKING WATER. WHEN I TOUCH THE GLASS WINDSHIELD I CAN ACTUALLY MOVE IT. WHAT IF I HIT A POT HOLE...COULD THE GLASS SHATTER AND BREAK FROM LACK OF STABILITY. I DRIVE DAILY WITH MY THREE CHILDREN, AND AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING THE MANUFACTURER FIX THIS PROBLEM. SHOULD I HAVE A NEW WINDSHIELD PUT IN? WILL THIS FIX THE PROBLEM OR JUST TEMPORARILY STOP THE WATER FROM LEAKING INSIDE? I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DIRECTION IN THIS MATTER.*AK *NM
THIS IS A 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WITH A V8 ENGINE. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN WITH NO DRIVER INPUT FROM A STOP. IT LURCHES BOTH IN DRIVE AND IN REVERSE.
THE REAR PANEL OF ,MY 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WAS REPLACED WHEN THE REAR WINDOW BLEW OUT. THIS INDICINT OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, AND WE FOUND LATER THAT THERE WAS A MASSIVE RECALL DUE TO THIS DEFECT. NOW, THE REAR PANEL IS LITERALLY PEELING AWAY FROM THE TRUCK, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE WE USUALLY GO FOR REPAIRS AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO JUST LIVE WITH IT. I FIND THIS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. THE VEHICLE IS BARELY THREE YEARS OLD AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH IT; ALTHOUGH MOST OF THEM HAVE BEEN ADRESSED, I AM COMPLETELY SHOCKED THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND WONDERING WHETHER THE REAR PANEL IS GOING TO FLY OFF AND POSSIBLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO ANOTHER VEHICHLE OR EVEN WORSE CAUSE INJURY TO AN INDIVIDUAL. I AM CONTACTING FORD MOTOR COMPANY TODAY TO FORMALLY LET THEM KNOW OF MY COMPLAINT, BECUASE I'D LIKE TO KNOW HOW LONG IS THE WARRANTY PERIOD ON A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT THAT WAS REPAIRED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT NOTICED A CRACK ON THE PANEL OF THE LIFTGATE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PANEL, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSIS THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER, SHE NOTICED ANOTHER CRACK ON THE LIFTGATE PANEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART AND REPLACE THE PANEL. AS OF JULY 2, 2007, THE PANEL HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CLOSE DOOR LIGHT TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 68,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
NORMAL DRIVING LEAD TO PARTS FAILURE. FORTUNATELY NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, HOWEVER MY MECHANIC STATED THAT THE WHEEL BEARING FAILURE WAS THAT SEVERE THAT HAD I BEEN TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY, THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER (FORD EXPLORER) WITH WHEEL BEARING/HUB FAILURE ON ALL 4 WHEELS AT DIFFERENT MILEAGE INTERVALS. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF OWNERS WITH THE SAME FAILURES. PLEASE RESEARCH. *TR
LEAK NOTICED AROUND REAR DIFFERENTIAL AT 49,000 MILES. DX AT 54,000 MI - LEAKING AXLE SHAFT SEALS. REPLACED SELAS. REAR DIFF. STILL WHINES UNDER LOAD.
TRANSMISSION SHIFTING ERRATICALLY ON UP-SHIFT, 2-3 / 3-4 AND 4-5. 5/16/05 MILEAGE 55K. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER, ISSUE EXPLAINED AND FIXED ON FIRST TRY. SOLENOID, 1L2Z-7G391-AE REPLACED. THIS IS IN CASE ANYONE ELSE HAS SIMILAR PROBLEMS. EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS PURCHASED AND USED.
REAR LIFGATE LATCH FAILURE. UNABLE TO OPEN REAR LIFTGATE IN EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. ALSO REAR GLASS LIFTGATE PISTIONS THAT HOLD UP WINDOW WITHIN LIFTGATE FAILURE, LOWER ONTO PERSONS HEAD.
DT: THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION SLIPPED, JUMPED AND MADE CLUNKING NOISES WHILE IN PARK, REVERSE OR WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES FOR NUMEROUS THINGS SUCH AS THE IGNITION SWITCH. SHE TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE SHOP THIS TIME AND THEY SAID IT WAS HER TRANSMISSION. HER VEHICLE ONLY HAS 41000 MILES. SHE STARTED SMELLING A BURNING SMELL AND THAT'S WHEN SHE TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP. SHE HAS ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE 45 DAYS AND HAS ALREADY HAD ALL THESE PROBLEMS. *NM
2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER HINGES ON THE TAILGATE HAD SEPARATED RESULTING IN THE WINDOW SHATTERING.*MR THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, CONSUMER RELEASED AND CLOSED THE HATCH BACK AND THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ON. RETURNED TO THE REAR OF VEHICLE AND RAISED TAILGATE WINDOW WHICH SHOT OUT OF CONSUMER HAND AND SHATTERED INTO MANY PIECES. INSPECTION REVEALED ONE OF THE HINGES ON THE TAILGATE WINDOW HAD SEPARATED FROM THE CAR WHICH CAUSED THE WINDOW TO SHATTER. *BF *NM
DT: WHILE PUTTING NEW BRAKES PADS ON THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE COILS AROUND SHOCKS WERE RUSTY, CORRODED, AND CRUMBLY. THE COILS FELL APART IN LARGE CHUNK'S IN THE MECHANIC'S HANDS.*AK
WHILE REVERSING IN LOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY ACCELERATED INTO A POLE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THAT THE PEDAL STUCK. THE TRANSMISSION PAN WAS REMOVED AND THEN RE-SEALED. THE MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY WAS REMOVED AND REPAIRED. *SC *JB
THE GEARS BEGAN MAKING A WHINING AND CLICKING NOISE AS SHIFTING OCCURED AT SLOWER SPEEDS. WE WERE ON A HIGHWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 HOURS WHEN THE O/D OFF LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED FROM 5 TH GEAR TO 4TH THE REMAINDER OF THE WAY. THE WORDS "CHECK TRANSMISSION" CAME ON THE ODOMETER SCREEN. *AK
2002 MOUNTAINEER STALLS, TRANSMISSION CONTROL ASSEMBLY, MAIN CONTROL VALVE, AND GASKET HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TS THE LIFT GATE WAS STICKING, AND WHILE CLOSING IT, THE GLASS SHATTERED, THE GLASS WAS RECALLED, AND WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE BEEN FIXED. THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE TRIM ON THE FRONT DOOR FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING. THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR WHEELS, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS SEVERE RUST ON THE BRAKE COMPONETS, THE PARK BRAKE SHOES FELL APART DUE TO CORROSION, THE REAR WHEEL BEARING AND KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY HAD EXCESSIVE RUST. *JB
WHEN THE VEHICLE IN PUT INTO DRIVE FROM PARK, THE VEHICLE JUMPS FORWARD EVEN THOUGH THE GAS HAS NOT BEEN APPLIED. THE PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY REPROGRAMMED THE VEHICLE COMPUTER.
A SUDDEN THUNK IN THE TRANSMISSION AND O/D LIGHT CAME ON. BY THE NEXT STOP, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. *NM
REAR LIFT GATE PANEL BELOW GLASS HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK. THIS LIFT GATE HAS BEEN RECALLED BUT DEALER STATES THE CRACKED PANEL IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. TWO DEALERS HAVE SAID THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED IN OTHER VEHICLES. HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. ALSO TRANSMISSION TROUBLE. DEALER SAID NEEDED TO REPLACE AT COST OF $3200.00. DEALER CHARGED $80.00 TO TELL ME IT NEEDED FIXED. TOOK TO TRANS. REPAIR SHOP TO REPAIR AT COST OF $1300.00. THIS MONTH I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE IDLER PULLEY, EGR VALVE, AND THE ELEC REAR WINDOW IS NOT FUNCTIONING. *JB
THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON. *AK
MOUNTAINEER STARTED TO MAKE SQUEELING SOUND. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE BELT SQUEELING, SO I TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC. MECHANIC TOLD ME THE BEARING INSIDE ALTERNATOR WAS FAILING. CAR WAS BOUGHT AS IS FROM CITRUS FORD, ONTARIO, CA. THERE WAS 30 DAY WARRANTY, BUT INCIDENT DIDN'T OCCUR UNTIL AFTER 30 DAYS WAS UP. POWER TRAIN WARRANTY WAS ONLY 3YR. 36,000 MILE. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 56000 MILES WHEN ALTERNATOR BEARING WENT BAD. THIS COST ME $256 FOR THE PART TO BE REPLACED, PLUS LABOR.*AK
I OWN A 2007 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WITH 46,000 MILES. WITHOUT WARNING THE TRANSMISSION STARTED NOT SHIFTING FROM GEAR TO GEAR. THE COMPUTER INDICATED "CHECK TRANSMISSION" AND THE OVERDRIVE OFF LIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER. I PROMPTLY STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND CALLED FOR A ROLL BACK TO HAVE IT TAKEN TO A TRANSMISSIN SHOP.($80 TOW FEE) THE SHOP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS 3RD GEAR WRONG RATIO. THE SHOP OWNER SAID THAT HE THOUGHT IT WAS A BROKEN SPRAG. HE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION WITH A FORD FACTORY REMANUFACTURED UNIT AT THE COST OF $2813.00. I HAVE SINCE HEARD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS IN THE 2002 FORD MODEL SUV'S AS WELL AS IN THE MERCURY'S. IS THERE ANYTHING BEING DONE TO HOLD THE MANUFACTURE LIABLE FOR THE EXPENSES INCURRED? *AK
AFTER THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE LIFTGATE/GLASS BRACKET RECALL 01I010000 THE HATCH DOOR SHIFTED WHEN OPENED AND THE ENTIRE CARGO DOOR ALIGNMENT IS OFF. THE VEHICLE BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED. THE PROBLEM HASN'T BEEN CORRECT THUS FAR. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE TAILGATE WAS CRACKED BELOW THE WINDOW. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE TAILGATE WAS ALREADY CRACKED. THE SERVICE DEALER REPAIRED THE CRACK. A YEAR LATER, THE TAILGATE BEGAN CRACKING AGAIN AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY BECOME WORSE; ITS CRACKED ALL THE WAY DOWN THROUGH THE PLASTIC PANEL BELOW THE WINDOW. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDOW COMES DOWN SO HARD THAT IT MAY BE THE REASON FOR THE CRACKING TAILGATE.
THE LIFTGATE WAS MADE OUT OF PLASTIC AND HAD STRESS FRACTURERS FROM TOP TO BOTTOM, WHICH WAS CAUSED BY CONSTANTLY OPENING AND CLOSING. THE LIFTGATE WAS NOT DURABLE ENOUGH TO BE CLOSED WITH FORCE OR WINDOW WOULD SHATTER. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, BUT THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED.*AK
2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER DRIVE TRAIN SLIPS, CAUSING SUDDEN JUMPS AND JERKS FROM; STARTS, SLOW DOWN / ACCELERATION, REVERSE TO DRIVE. BOUGHT CAR FOR WIFE FOR SAFE AWD SYSTEM FOR SNOW AND SLICK ROADS, WIFE DOES NOT FEEL SAFE AS LURCHING FROM STOPS ALMOST CAUSED HER TO CAUSE A REAR END ACCIDENT. CAR HAS 65,000 MILES HAD TRANS AND FRONT REAR DIFF OIL CHANGED HELPED FOR ABOUT A WEEK. IS IT POSSIBLE TO REPLACE 2002 TRANS WITH 2005 TRANS AS THEY SEEM TO BE RATED BETTER?*AK
MY TRANSMISSION KEEPS STICKING ON THE 1ST GEAR, ESPECIALLY WHEN DOWN SHIFTING SUCH AS WHEN PASSING A VEHICLE. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE, IN THAT IT CAN CAUSE INJURY ACCIDENTS WHEN PASSING.
THE BACK DOOR OF MY 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER HAS CRACKED AROUND THE MERCURY EMBLEM, WHICH IS LOCATED JUST UNDER THE GLASS PORTION OF THE DOOR THAT YOU CAN OPEN SEPARATELY FROM THE REMAINDER OF THE DOOR. I HAVE NOW SEEN THREE OTHER MERCURY MOUNTAINEERS WITH THE SAME CRACK AROUND THE EMBLEM. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS A COINCIDENCE. I BELIEVE IT IS A DEFECT AND THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD PUT OUT A RECALL TO FIX THE DEFECT. *TR
I LEFT MY AUTOMOBILE, 2002 MERCURY SABLE, AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR ITS 25,000 MILE MAINTENANCE AND ASKED THEM TO LOOK AT THE FRONT END AS IT WAS SHIMMERING OVER 40 MPH. I WAS TOLD THAT ALL FOUR TIRE WALLS WERE CRACKING AND THAT THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST LESS ALLOWANCE. I WAS FURIOUS AND CALLED SEVERAL PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THE TIRE COMPANY TO COMPLAIN. THE TIRE COMPANY TOLD ME THAT CRACKED SIDEWALLS WERE COVERED IN THE WARRANTY AND IF IT WAS NOT THE TIRES SHOULD BE REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS WAS NOT COVERED YET AFTER I CALLED THE TIRE COMPANY THE SAID THAT SOME OF THE MANAGEMENT PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP LEARNED OF MY PROBLEM AND GAVE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ORDERS TO REPLACE THE TIRES AT NO COST WITHOUT CALLING THE TIRE COMPANY. THEY ALSO SPECIFIED THAT THE TIRES WOULD HAVE TO BE SHIPPED BACK TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THE WHOLE THING SMELLS OF A COVER-UP BECAUSE OF THE IMMEDIATE TURN AROUND AT THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I MENTIONED A LAWSUIT. ALL FOUR OF THESE TIRES COULD HAVE BLOWN ONE AT A TIME OR TOGETHER CAUSING INJURY AND I DO NOT FEEL GOOD ABOUT THIS. *AK
WHILE TAKING OFF FROM A COMPLETE STOP AFTER HEAVY OR MODERATE BRAKING THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE WILL REV FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS APPLIED, THEN THE VEHICLE WILL HARSHLY JOLT FORWARD AND START ACCELERATING. *JB
UPON AWAITING PARTS TO HAVE THE REAR LIFTGATE GLASS RECALL 04V442000 REPAIRS PERFORMED THE GLASS DROPPED DOWN INTO THE STRUCTURE ABOUT 1 1/2 INCHES WHICH CAUSED STRESS ON THE TRIM BELOW THE GATE WINDOW, RESULTING IN THE TRIM BREAKING. MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM DUE TO NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS BEING FILED, BUT THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO REPAIR THE TRIM.*AK
CRACK APPEARED UNDER REAR GLASS. HAD REPORTED TO HAVE RECALL ADDRESSED CONCERNING LIFT-GATE PER RECALL LETTER. TRUCK WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT FORD HAD NOT COME UP WITH THE PART TO FIX THAT LIFT-GATE ISSUE. THIS WAS IN SEPTEMBER. LETTER FROM FORD SAID TO GO AT THE END OF NOVEMBER; I WENT BUT WAS TOLD TO JUST STOP USING GLASS-LIFT AND TO OPEN THE ENTIRE REAR DOOR. STILL UNDER WARRANTY THEN. DECEMBER COMES, I TRAVEL TO SHREVEPORT FOR CHRISTMAS, GET THERE AND NOTICE THE CRACK UNDER THE LIFT-GLASS NEXT TO EMBLEM. UPON RETURNING HOME, I WENT TO BUDDY JONES FORD (SAME AS OTHER VISITS/PLUS BOUGHT TRUCK THERE). I WAS TOLD THEN THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO ABOUT THE CRACK BECAUSE MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I BELIEVE THAT IF THE RECALL ISSUE HAD BEEN ADDRESS WHEN I WENT THERE ON THE TWO PREVIOUS VISITS, THE NOW CRACKED BODY PART WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED AS IT NEEDS REMOVING TO PROPERLY FIX THE LIFT-GATE. THE $50.00 CO-PAY CAME ABOUT AFTER NUMEROUS EMAILS, PHONE CALLS, AND DEALER VISITS TO COMPLAIN.*AK
AFTER HAVING THE RECALL FOR THE LIFTGATE REPAIRED, THE PLASTIC IS BEGINNING TO CRACK. THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT HAVING ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR. *JB.........*AK

FORD WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION AT THEIR 1-866-436-7332 NUMBER REGARDING THE CURRENT STATUS OF WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR RECALL # 04S20 - MERCURY MOUNTAINEER REAR LIFTGATE WINDOW. THE LETTER SENT IN EARLY OCTOBER SAID THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN LATE NOVEMBER. TWICE WHEN I ASKED TODAY TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR, I WAS PUT ON HOLD & DISCONNECTED. *JB
TRANSMISSION: UPON PARKING THE VEHICLE CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE. VEHICLE VIBRATED, UPON TRYING TO USE THE VEHICLE AGAIN THE GEARS WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE. *AK
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS WERE INOPERATIVE. THE TAIL LIGHTS STAYED ON WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. CONSUMER WILL CONTACT THE DEALER IN THE NEAR FUTURE. *AK
DT: ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO OWNER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. RIGHT AWAY OWNER COMPLAINED OF ACCELERATION PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT WAS SHIFTING WHEN IT ACCELERATED. VEHICLE USUALLY DID THIS ABOUT 25-30 MPH OR EVEN HIGHER SPEEDS. THE RPMS WOULD RAISE AND INCREASE SPEED. IT FELT LIKE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WOULD ACCELERATE, AND RAISE THE RPMS WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS COOPERATIVE. THE DEALER REPLACED ABOUT HALF THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THEY WERE THINKING THAT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS REMAINED ABOUT THE SAME AND WAS STILL GOING ON. WHEN IT ACCELERATED BY ITSELF IT SPED UP ABOUT 5-10 MPH. THE RPMS WENT UP BY ABOUT 1000. OWNER WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THE OFFICE OF DEFECT INVESTIGATION INVESTIGATORS AWARE THAT HE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOMEONE COME AND CHECK OUT THE VEHICLE, AND EVEN TAKE THE VEHICLE AWAY FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO. HE ANOTHER VEHICLE TO DRIVE, AND INSISTED ABOUT GETTING THE PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR REPAIRED.*AK
NOTICED A STRONGE SMELL OF GAS IN OUR GARAGE. WHEN WE BACKED OUT THERE WAS A LARGE SPOT ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. WE THEN GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SMELLED THE LIQUID. IT WAS GAS WE THEN LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS A LIQUID DRIPING. AS WE CONTINUED TO INVESTAGATE IT WAS CLEAR THAT GAS WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE TANK. THE SEAL ALONG WITH THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK WERE SATURATED WITH A DARK GASOLINE SMELLING LIQUID. WE THEN CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A MERCURY DEALER. WE ALSO WERE INSTRUCTED NOT TO DRIVE IT.AFTER THE VEHICLE ARRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP WE PROCEDED TO FIND A VEHICLE SAME MADE MODLE AND YEAR. AT THAT POINT WE LOOKED UNDER THAT VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE SEAL LOOKED DIFFERNT. IT LOOKED AS IF EVERYTHING WAS CONNECTED UNLIKE OUR VEHICLE WHICH LOOKED LIKE TWO PIECES PUT TOGETHER WITH A YELLOW RING AROUND IT HOLDING THE GAS LINE TO THE GAS TANK. OUR VEHICLE IS NOW SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP WAITNG FOR SOMEONE TO INVESTIGATE THE SITUATION. WE FEEL THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND A SAFETY HAZARD WHICH COULD EASILY CAUSE INJURY AND OR DEATH BY THE FACT THAT GASOLINE IS FLAMABLE!!!!!!!!! WE WILL NOT PUT OUR FAMILY IN THIS POSTION AGAIN BY DRIVING THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE!!!!!!*AK
2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER- AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NEEDED A TOTAL REBUILD AT 40,000 MILES. *JB
I RECENTLY HAD MY BACK HALFWAY HATCH ON MY 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER TO FALL ON ITS ON FROM NO APPARENT REASON. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, UPON TALKING WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIALIST'S WAS SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE AN OUT OF POCKET REPAIR. HOWEVER THIS HAD HAPPEN AT NO FAULT TO ME. I BELIEVE THAT IT IS A WARRANTY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH NO CHARGE TO ME. THE CSS ALSO SAID IT WOULD PROBABLY COST ME RIGHT AT 5 TO 6 HUNDRED DOLLARS. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS. I WAS STOPED AT A RED LIGHT, WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE. I COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REV, BUT IT WAS A FEW SECONDS BEFORE THE VEHICLE MOVED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN 2 MONTHS. ABS LIGHT HAS CAME ON 4 TIMES IN 2 YEARS I HAD THE ABS SENSOR REPLACED EVERY TIME THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 35450 MILES ON IT. I PAID OVER $31000 FOR THIS TRUCK AND I HAVE HAD MORE TROUBLE WITH IT THAN ANY TRUCK I HAVE EVER HAD IN THE PAST. *NM
OUR 2003 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDED REBUILDING IN MAY 2003 AT 35,500 MILES. NOW IT NEEDS TO BE REBUILT AGAIN AT 55,000 MILES. ALL BEARINGS AND CONES WERE REPLACED BOTH TIMES. *AK

THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORK VERY SLOW AND THE WASHER SPRAYS ALL OVER THE WINDSHIELD AND WILL NOT STOP. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED, THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH, AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. *NM THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD ON TWO OCCASIONS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE CONSUMER WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE MICRO PROCESSOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FIRST TIME IT WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED WAS IN SEPT. 2004. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ( IT WAS RAINING) THE WIPERS WERE WORKING FINE, THEN THEY BEGAN TO MOVE VERY SLOW AND WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID BEGAN TO SQUIRT OUT. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE I COULDN'T SEE OUT OF THE FRONT WINDOW. I WAITED UNTIL THE RAIN SLOWED DOWN AND PRECEDED HOME WITH THE WIPERS MALFUNCTIONING. SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT THE WIPERS WILL WORK FINE FOR THE FIRST 10,15,20 MINUTES AND START DOING THE SAME THING. THE VEHICLE IS AT REEDMAN MERCURY SERVICE CENTER IN LANGHORNE PA. AS THIS LETTER IS BEING WRITTEN. THEY TELL ME THAT THERE HAS BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IN MERCURY PRODUCTS. THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THIS SWITCH FOR $220.00 MUCH TO MY DISAPPOVAL. THIS IS A SAFTEY ISSURE THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY MERCURY. *JB
