2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. RADIATOR BEING REPLACED FOR THE 2ND TIME IN 8 MONTHS. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC THE RADIATOR IS COMPLETELY CORRODED BOTH TIMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE PEDAL WAS ABNORMALLY RESISTANT AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND WHEN RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, SUDDENLY THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE WENT UP CRAZILY AND THE ENGINE SOUNDED HORRIBLE AND LOST POWER. FORTUNATELY STOPPED BY THE ROADSIDE AND FOUND THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING AND COOLANT IS ALMOST EMPTY. SEARCHED AROUND THE WEB AND FOUND THAT FOR 4.0 ENGINE FROM FORD AND MERCURY, THIS IS PRETTY NORMAL PROBLEM DUE TO A DESIGN DEFECT. PEOPLE ARE CHANGING RADIATOR EVERY YEAR. NEVER HEARD SUCH RIDICULOUS THING THAT NOWADAYS THE RADIATOR LAST SO SHORT TIME. IT SHOULD LAST LIFE TIME OF THE CAR. FORD APPARENTLY KNEW IT, HOWEVER, THEY ONLY ANNOUNCED A TSB IN 2009 WHEN MOST OF THE WARRANTIES WERE GONNA EXPIRE. THEY SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND IT POSES LIFE THREATENING RISKS. I GUESS THEY JUST DON'T CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS. THE CUSTOMERS NEED TO REPAIR OUT OF THEY OWN POCKETS, WHICH SUPPORT FORD'S CHAIN DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENTS. WELL, SOUNDS A GOOD PLAN FOR THEM. WELL, THE CUSTOMERS ARE NOT STUPID. THEY ARE CHANGE TO JAPANESE CARS, WHICH HAVE FAR LESS PROBLEMS. I WILL NEVER A FORD?MERCURY CAR AND WOULD BE GLAD TO SEE THEM GO BANKRUPTCY. *TR
RADIATOR DEFECT IN 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. REPLACED AT 40,000 MILES AND AT 80,000 MILES. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND NOT RECALLED AS OF YET. *TR
MY 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER RADIATOR NEEDS REPLACING BECAUSE IT IS BUSTED. I ONLY HAVE AN ESTIMATE OF 65,000 MILES ON IT. THE PART WILL COST ME $285.00 NOT INCLUDING THE LABOR. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD HOW COULD A PART LIKE THIS ALREADY NEED REPLACING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STATED ANTI-FREEZE FUMES WERE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND A PREGNANT PASSENGER BECAME ILL FROM THE FUMES. THE CONTACT LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE ANTI-FREEZE WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY CAR IS 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER IN 2007 ALREADY THE SHIFT HAD TO BE REPLACED AS IT CONTINUALLY GOT STUCK. ONE DEALER TOLD ME THE SHIFT NEEDED TO CHANGED YET AGAIN AND NOW WHEN THE CAR IS TAKEN OUT OF PARK INTO ANY GEAR IT WONT MOVE IT TAKES ABOUT 25 MINS TO ACTUALLY PUT INTO GEAR. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A SHIFT SOLENOID I HAD IT REPLACED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND REPROGRAM AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM THE CAR ONLY HAS 62,000 MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED FROM DRIVE TO PARK THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE SHIFT SOLENOID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE REPAIRS AND THE FOLLOWING DAY THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE ALSO MADE A LOUD THUMPING NOISE WHILE SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS WAITING FOR THEM TO COMPLETE THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE WAS CONCERNED SINCE THE FAILURE WAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE RADIATOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT NEEDED A SECOND REPLACEMENT HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THE MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WILL NO LONGER TAKE IN FUEL PROPERLY. CAN NOT PUT IN MORE THAN A HALF A GALLON OF GAS AT A TIME. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING BLOCKING THE GAS FROM ENTERING THE TANK. HE SAID IT WAS THE AUTOMATIC FUEL SHUT OFF THAT WAS INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. HAVE NOT REPLACED IT YET. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING A REGULAR MAINTENANCE PERFORMED THE MECHANIC NOTICED THE RADIATOR WAS CRACKED. ALSO, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DID NOT INDICATE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS HOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE RADIATOR WAS CRACKED CAUSING A LEAKAGE AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 42,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
OWNER OF A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY 2010. THE RETRACTABLE RUNNING BOARDS DO NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. SOMETIMES UP THEN DOWN ONE UP THE OTHER DOWN. DISCONNECTING MOTOR OR PULLING FUSES ARE NOT THE ANSWERS. STEEL MIXED WITH ALUMINUM PINS IS BAD BUT CAN BE FIXED. I REVIEWED NUMEROUS ON-LINE COMPLAINTS AND WANTED TO KNOW WHY THIS ITEM HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. THE BOARDS HALF WAY DOWN IS A CONSTANT TRIP HAZARD WHEN GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE. 1500 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE UNIT IS THE WRONG ANSWER. THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN PROBLEM ON A GREAT VEHICLE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIATOR CONTINUED TO LEAK COOLANT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIATOR WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED TWICE FOR THE EXACT SAME FAILURE. THE LEAKING HAD NOT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT BUT THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COOLANT ODOR WAS OVERWHELMING FROM THE VEHICLE INTERIOR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS SO THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
RADIATOR BEGAN LEAKING IN MY 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER AT 51,500 MILES. *TR
MY MERCURY MOUNTAINERS 2006 THIRD ROW RIGHT SEAT GOT JAMMED WHILE MY SON WAS SEATED IN THE LEFT SEAT NEXT TO IT ALMOST PINCHING HIM IN THE SEAT AND I LOOKED AT A COUPLE OF WEBSITES AND IT STATES MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM I THINK THEY SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOME ONE GETS HURT. *TR
RADIATOR LEAK. COMPLETE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED WITH NEW RADIATOR AND HOSES AND STILL LEAKED. I BELIEVE FORD'S RADIATORS ARE DEFECTIVE. *TR
WHEN AT CRUISING SPEED TRANS FEELS LIKE IT IS SURGING AS IF TRYING TO DOWNSHIFT BUT NEVER QUITE DOES, FROM A DEAD STOP TRANS SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE IT CANNOT PULL VEHICLE'S WEIGHT. *TR
2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER V8 AWD--WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE IT "CLUNKS" HARD INTO GEAR. THE WRENCH SYMBOL AND THE ENGINE SYMBOL LIGHT UP. THE VEHICLE ALSO DRIVES HARD AS IF IT ISN'T CHANGING GEARS. THE DEALERSHIP WILL ONLY SAY THAT THE FORD TSB RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER, THEN RESEALING WITH FOAM SEAL FIRST BUT REFUSES TO GIVE ME AN ACTUAL DIAGNOSIS OF WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE CAR. THEY CAN NOT TELL ME THE REAL PROBLEM AND INSIST THAT WE WILL HAVE TO WORK THROUGH THE VARIOUS STEPS ON THE FORD TSBS WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT WORK (BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION) AND THE COST OF FINAL REPAIRS IS COMPLETELY OPEN ENDED. WHEN I QUESTIONED WHAT WE WOULD TRY NEXT AFTER THE TRANSMISSION FLUID/FILTER REPLACEMENT (BECAUSE I WAS SKEPTICAL ABOUT THIS CAUSING THE ISSUE ON A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 43,000 MILES) THEY HAD NO ANSWERS AT ALL. WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE LESS THAN A YEAR. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL BUT FORD REFUSES TO OWN UP TO IT. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. *TR
2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER SHIFTS HARD WHEN GOING INTO REVERSE, AND IS ALSO STARTING TO SHIFT HARD FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. HAVE HEARD FROM MANY THERE PEOPLE WITH 2006 FORD EXPLORERS THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION. HAVE HAD CHIP REPROGRAMMED AT DEALERSHIP (WAS CHARGED) AND ALSO HAD TRANSMISSION FLUSHED AND IT IS ACTUALLY WORSE NOW. MY MOUNTAINEER HAS 58,000 MILES ON THIS AND HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE PAST 2,000 MILES. FORD SHOULD FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DISPLAYED A "HIGH TEMPERATURE" READING. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE ENGINE OVERHEATED WITH EXCESSIVE LEAKAGE OF COOLANT. THE CONTACT DISPENSED COOLANT INTO THE RADIATOR RESERVOIR. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN MILES BEFORE THE IDENTICAL FAILURES RECURRED IN WHICH THE RADIATOR REQUIRED ADDITIONAL COOLANT. THE FAILURES OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTIONS AND THEY INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: COOLING SYSTEM: RADIATOR ASSEMBLY. THE BULLETIN NUMBER WAS 0638. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT DUE TO THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

MY 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER RADIATOR IS CRACKED. I 'VE ASKED MECHANICS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE RADIATORS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS. I WENT ONLINE AND THERE SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING. I'M SURE FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THEY ARE NOT TAKING ANY ACTION TOWARDS THE PROBLEM. CAN YOU HELP US. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH IN A PARKING LOT, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF ANTI-FREEZE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION AT ANY GIVEN SPEED BEING TRAVELED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A CRACK IN THE RADIATOR WHICH CAUSED EXCESSIVE ANTI-FREEZE LEAKAGE. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE ANTI-FREEZE LEAKAGE WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLIANT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,244.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, A SMALL AMOUNT OF RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAN MOTOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
THE RADIATOR IN THE 2006 FORD EXPLORER/MERCURY MOUNTAINEER IS A WEAK LINK IN THE VEHICLE. MY RADIATOR IS LEAKING AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE, I HAVE FOUND OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS ON OTHER EXPLORERS AND MOUNTAINEERS OF THIS YEAR.
BROKEN RADIATOR IN MY 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WITH 52,000 MILES. *TR
CRACKED RADIATOR WITH ONLY 41,000 MILES. DEALERSHIP INDICATED REPAIR COST WOULD BE $1,000. WHEN I QUESTIONED POSSIBLE DEFECT THEY SAID THEY HAD NO RECALLS BUT ALSO INDICATED THEY HAD JUST REPLACED ANOTHER ONE LAST WEEK. I CALLED ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO CHECK PRICE THEY ESTIMATED $750 AND ALSO INDICATED THEY HAD TO REPLACE 2-3 IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS. JUDGING FROM THIS SITE AND OTHERS THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT WITH 2006 FORD EXPLORERS AND MOUNTAINEERS. WHY DOESN'T ANYONE HOLD THE MANUFACTURER ACCOUNTABLE? *TR
THE DRIVER SEAT MOTOR MESSED UP CAUSING THE TO BE STATIONARY. THE SEAT WONT MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARD.THE AIR CONDITIONING ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOESN'T BLOW COLD , THE DASH AND RADIO LIGHTS BRIGHTEN AND DIM SPORADICALLY AND THE THIRD ROW SEATS DON'T WORK, THE GEAR STRIPPED OUT. ALSO, THE BUSHINGS ON THE FEONT AND REAR HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED.
HAD TO REPLACE RADIATOR AT 36,500 MILES. PURCHASED VEHICLE ON SEPT 9, 2009 AS A CERTIFIED MERCURY VEHICLE AND WITHIN 3 MONTHS HAD A LEAK IN THE RADIATOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
MY TRUCK HAS 115,000 MILES ON IT, TRANSMISSION IS NOW GONE. WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE IT WOULD JERK BACK LIKE THE IT WAS BEING HIT, ALL OF SUDDEN IT STARTED DRAGGING WHILE DRIVING, AND HAVING PROBLEMS SHIFTING INTO GEAR, AND NOW ITS TOTALLY GONE...ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE TWO YEARS. *TR

HE HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR THREE TIMES DUE TO THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK AND STATED THAT THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES AS A RESULT OF THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
MY CAR HAS HAD A CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. IT SHIFTS ROUGHLY AND LURCHES WHEN BEGINNING TO MOVE. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT, AND THEN BEGINNING TO DRIVE, IT WILL LURCH, JOLTING THE PASSENGERS. OUR DRIVEWAY IS SLOPED TOWARD THE STREET. WHEN I PARK THE CAR, I ALWAYS SET THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AS WELL. THE CAR ALWAYS ROLLS A FEW INCHES BEFORE THE BRAKES LOCK, EVEN THOUGH IT IS STOPPED AND IN PARK. ON SEP. 4, 2009, MY MOTHER BORROWED MY CAR TO GO TO LUNCH. SHE COULDN'T FIND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE RELEASE. SHE PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND GOT OUT TO LOCATE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. SHE FOUND IT AND RELEASED IT. THE CAR POPPED INTO REVERSE AND ROLLED BACKWARDS TO THE STREET. THE DOOR KNOCKED MY MOTHER DOWN AND SHE HIT HER HEAD HARD ENOUGH TO SUSTAIN A CLOSED HEAD INJURY WITH MINOR BLEEDING IN HER BRAIN. THE CAR ROLLED ACROSS THE STREET, OVER THE CURB AND HIT A NEIGHBOR'S POPLAR TREE. THE ENTIRE TAILGATE WAS DESTROYED, THERE WAS SOME INTERIOR DAMAGE AND THE FRAME WAS WARPED. THE TAILGATE HAD TO BE REPLACED, THE BUMPER AND TRAILER HITCH HAD TO BE REPAIRED AND THE FRAME STRAIGHTENED. MY MOTHER WAS IN HOSPITAL OVERNIGHT AND HAD TO HAVE TWO CT-SCANS. IN JULY 2009 AT 40000 MILES THE RADIATOR HAD A HAIRLINE FRACTURE AND THE RADIATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED, PAID OUT OF POCKET BY OWNER. IN MARCH 2010, AT 60000 MILES, ANOTHER RADIATOR IS BEING PUT IN THIS VEHICLE, AGAIN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE FOR OWNER. THERE SHOULD NOT BE A NEED FOR A VEHICLE TO HAVE HAD 3 RADIATORS AT 60000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND THAT THESE ARE POORLY PLACED AND MANUFACTURED RADIATORS. FORD/MERCURY SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND REIMBURSE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES FOR ANYONE THAT HAS PROOF OF RADIATORS BEING REPLACED. *TR
LEAKY RADIATOR WAS 1ST DETECTED BY MYSELF BUT MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE LEAK BECAUSE ANTI-FREEZE WAS NOT VISIBLY LEAKING BUT THE RESEVOIR WAS ALWAYS EMPTY. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH MY TIRES. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT ADDRESSED BY MECHANICS UNTIL THEY SAW THAT THE RADIATOR COULD NOT HOLD COOLANT ANY LONGER. NOW IT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS HAVING A HOLE IN THE RADIATOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. HE HAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. IN AN ATTEMPT TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT REPAIR CENTERS, TO NO AVAIL. WHEN CONTACTING HIS LOCAL DEALER THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED SEVERAL REPAIRS INCLUDING A FAILED RADIATOR, THERMOSTAT, WATER PUMP, BRAKE DRUMS, ROTORS AND A GREASE TREATMENT, ALL AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,253.

SPARK PLUGS NOT EASILY REPLACED, BROKE OFF AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO A SHOP FOR REMOVAL. GAS UNABLE TO BE PUMPED PROPERLY I CAN PUT IN .25 AT A TIME IF I'M LUCKY. IT TAKES 20 MINUTES TO PUMP HALF A TANK OF GAS. I LOVE THE FEATURES THIS VEHICLE HAS BUT THIS HAS BEEN SUCH A HASSLE. *TR
2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER SLIPPED OUT OF PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND HIT MOTHER INLAWS 2005 GMC ENVOY. THIS IS ONE OF A HAND FULL OF TIMES IT HAS SLIPPED OFF PARK. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES AND NOTHING, NOW I AM FIGHTING WITH GRAND LEDGE FORD, GRAND LEDGE, MI TO GET IT FIX OR REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION BEFORE SOMEONE GET SERIOUSLY HURT OR EVEN DIES. HAD TO REPLACE TWO RADIATORS WITHIN 30,000 MILES OF REPLACEMENT. EXACTLY HOW MANY COMPLAINTS, OR SHOULD I SAY DEATHS (?) ARE NEEDED TO TRIGGER AN INVESTIGATION OF A COMPANY GLADLY RECEIVING ASSISTANCE WHILE OUTPUTTING INFERIOR VEHICLES. NO VEHICLE MANUFACTURED IN 2006 SHOULD NEED THREE NEW RADIATORS WITHIN 3 YEAR AND 70K MILES. STOP LETTING FORD OFF THE HOOK AND GET SERIOUS ABOUT GETTING TO THE BOTTOM OF THEIR ISSUES. JUST DO A SEARCH ON 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER AND YOU WILL CLEARLY SEE THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE COOLING AS WELL AS THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IN FACT, OUR MODEL HAS THE SAME ISSUE THAT OTHERS HAVE REPORTED WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND IT WILL SOMETIMES NO MOVES GEARS, SLIP A GEAR, AND TUG LIKE IT IS PULLING OUT OF MUD AT A STOP LIGHT. OPEN A FULL BLOWN INVESTIGATION INTO THEIR LACK OF QUALITY CONTROL AND THE LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM ON THE PART OF THE DEALERSHIPS FOR NOT REPORTING THIS TO CORPORATE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WITH AUTO RUNNING BOARDS. THE RUNNING BOARDS SEEM TO HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN. BOTH HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALER, THE LATEST WAS 5-5-09. TODAY WHEN OUR DAUGHTER WAS ENTERING THE PASSENGER SIDE THE RUNNING BOARD OPENED UP LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BUT CLOSED AT ONCE ONTO OUR DAUGHTER FOOT. THE PASSENGER DOOR WAS STILL OPEN WHEN IT CLOSED AND THE RUNNING BOARD WOULD NOT RETRACT. WE WERE VERY LUCKY NOT TO HAVE SUFFERED SERIOUS INJURY. TWO COMPLAINTS. 1) TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS HARD WHEN SLOWING, SUCH AS FOR A STOP SIGN. MERCURY SAYS IT IS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT WON'T FIX IT UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY VEHICLE HAS 37,700 MILES. 2) EXTREME WIRE WEAR. IT CAME WITH MICHLIN TIRES AND I HAVE GOTTEN FAR LESS THAN 20,000 MILES OUT OF THEM. I AM NOW REPLACING WITH BRIDGESTONE. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS THE TIRE OR SOMETHING DEFECTIVE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP LIED TO ME WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THEM TO CHECK. THE MICHLINS ARE WEARING IN THE CENTER OF THE TREAD AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD 45 POUNDS IN THE TIRES. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT ALL ASPECTS OF UPKEEP OF MY VEHICLE. IT CALLS FOR 32 PSI FRONT AND REAR. THE TIRES ARE ALWAYS WITHIN A COUPLE OF POUNDS OF THAT FIGURE. GRANTED THE WEAR DOES LOOK LIKE OVERINFLATION. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE TIRE OR THE VEHICLE. I HAVE MADE SURE THE ALIGNMENT IS RIGHT ON AND IT DOES ALIGHN PROPERLY SO I TEND TO BELIEVE IT IS THE MICHLIN CROSS TERRIAN 235X65X18 TIRES. OTHER THAN THE TRANS WHICH THE DEALERSHIP ADVISES WILL BE FIXED WITH A SOFTWARE UPGRADE AND THE TIRE PROBLEM, EVERYTHING ELSE IS VERY SATISFACTORY WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THREE RADIATORS IN MY VEHICLE SINCE PURCHASING THE AUTO IN SEPT OF 06. THE FIRST ONE WAS REPLACED AT 26,048 MILES (UNDER WARRANTY) THE 2ND 33,202 MILES (UNDER WARRANTY)AND THE LAST ONE OCCURRED WITH 53000 MILES (NO LONGER COVERED). EACH TIME THEY REPLACED THE RADIATOR WITH A BRAND NEW ONE. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED FORD / MERCURY TO LOOK FOR ASSISTANCE ON THIS PROBLEM AND WHY THIS IS HAPPENING AND THEY DIRECTED ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEERS AND FORD EXPLORERS WITH THE V6'S RADIATOR. AT VERY LOW MILEAGES THE RADIATOR SEPARATES AT THE SEAMS ON THE SIDE CAUSING A LEAK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE PROBLEM AND IT IS TERRIBLE THAT YOU ONLY GET 40K OR LESS OUT OF A RADIATOR. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM!!! MY 2006 MOUNTAINEER HAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT THERE IS A LOUD "POP" OR THUD LIKE NOISE AS IF THE TRANSMISSION IS POPPING INTO PLACE. ALSO TRANSMISSION SLIPS WHEN GOING FORWARD. IT JERKS ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS SUCH AS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. POOR DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING BUT DEFINITELY SOMETHING IS WRONG. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN STRUCK FROM BEHIND WHEN THE POPPING/THUD NOISE OCCURS AT A LIGHT. VERY UNSETTLING. ALSO CAR LURCHES FORWARD WHEN PULLING OFF FROM A STANDING POSITION SUCH AS AT A LIGHT AND YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR GOING TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. *TR
I OWN A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER (V8 AWD). EVERYTIME I STOP THE TRANSMISSION JOLTS FORWARD AS IF WE HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A REAR-END COLLISION. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
