REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKEN ON BOTH SIDES, 2000 MERCURY SABLE. WAS DRIVING THE CAR, TURNED INTO A DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE, LIKE A JOINT POPPING. REAR END OF VEHICLE SAGS ON BOTH SIDES AND POPPING NOISE OCCURS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE MAKES A TURN. GOING TO MECHANIC FOR REPLACEMENT OF COIL SPRINGS AND STRUTS, ESTIMATED COST WITH LABOR $400+. *TR
NOTICED LOUD METALIC NOISES FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION ON MARCH 25, TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER ON MARCH 26, DEALER ADVISES FRONT SPRING IS BROKEN, AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION. FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN INHERENT MANUFACTURING DEFECT FOR MERCURY SABLE AND FORD TAURUS VEHICLES. MANUFACTURER STATES THAT MY VEHICLE IS 2 MONTHS BEYOND THE VOLUNATARY WARRANTY PROGRAM THEY PUT IN.
I OWN A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. I WENT TO MY MECHANIC TO HAVE MY TIE RODS REPLACED. UPON INSPECTION MY MECHANIC FOUND MY RIGHT FRONT COILS SPRING BROKEN. HE ALSO STATED THE COIL HAD BEEN BROKEN FOR SOME TIME DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF RUST FOUND AT THE BREAK. I HAVE INSTALLED KYB STRUTS INSTALLED. *TR

HE STATED THAT HIS FRONT LEFT TIRE BECAME FLAT AND WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE IT HE NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN .THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEND HIM A REPAIR SHIELD WHICH HE HAS NOT RECEIVED YET. HE IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY DEFECT AND THAT THE SHIELD IS NOT A SUFFICIENT REPAIR. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 150,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE WAGON. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH USING THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL HE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE. HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND TRIED TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL IN ORDER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN BUT IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AT A FASTER SPEED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AS HE PULLED TO THE SIDE AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. HE TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT IT ACCELERATED FULL THROTTLE FORCING HIM TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF A SECOND TIME. HE CALLED A MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE FOR HALF AN HOUR HE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT BEGAN WORKING NORMALLY. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED HIM TO CALL NHTSA AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ALSO ADVISED HIM TO CALL NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,980. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS HAVING HIS VEHICLE SERVICED, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE REAR AND FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHENEVER HE DROVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD HE HEARD A LOUD BANGING SOUND IN THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 89000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT IN HIS VEHICLE LOCKS UP AND WILL NOT PULL OUT. HE PURCHASED ANOTHER SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY RETRACTOR AND HAD IT REPLACED BY A MECHANIC, BUT THE FAILURE IS RECURRING. THE FORD MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS REGARDING THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
REAR PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING SNAPPED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. THE NOISE WAS HEARD WHENEVER THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE REAR COIL SPRINGS AND SHOCKS WERE THE SOURCE OF THE NOISE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V332000 (SUSPENSION,FRONT;SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 131,128.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT RESISTANCE WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THERE WAS NO POWER RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE AND WAS PUSHED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND THEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 70,000. REAR COIL SPRINGS BOTH BROKE CAUSING EXCESSIVE WEIGHT TO BE BORN BY THE REAR STRUTS WHICH CAUSED THEM TO LEAK. SPRINGS, STRUTS AND SPRING MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $875.00. FRONT SPRINGS HAD SNAPPED LAST YEAR AND WERE REPLACED ON A RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. WHILE THE TIRES WERE BEING CHANGED BY A MECHANIC, HE NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRINGS ON THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FAILED. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLES, BUT IT PERTAINED TO THE FRONT TIRES. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. HE FEELS THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE BECAUSE THE REAR IS LOWER AND MAKES THE VEHICLE DRIVE UNSTEADILY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 60,000. UPDATED 03-27-09 *BF UPDATED 04/01/09. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V332000 (SUSPENSION;FRONT SPRINGS, COIL SPRINGS), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 103,000.
TIRE WEAR AND SAGGING REAR END, TOOK CAR TO TIRE SHOP FOR NEW TIRES AND TIRE ALIGNMENT. MECHANIC STATED BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT COULD NOT BE COMPLETED UNTIL REPAIRED. *TR

MOMENTS LATER THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS FLAT. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY A LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING SNAPPED. NOTICED RATTLE SOUND GOING OVER BUMPS FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM. SAW A PIECE OF COIL SPRING ABOUT 5" LONG ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. OK CAR TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. DEALER MAKING REPAIRS BROKE A BOLT AND HAD TO ORDER A NEW KNUCKLE CASTING FOR THE LEFT SIDE. WAS GOING TO BE $491 TO REPAIR, NOW IT WILL BE $180 MORE. *TR
MY 2000 MERCURY SABLE HAS HAD A HISTORY OF BROKEN COIL SPRINGS. DUE TO THE HAZARDOUS SITUATION I FEEL SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! FORD HAD A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRINGS BUT NOT THE BACK. MY BACK SPRINGS HAVE JUST BEEN DISCOVERED TO BE BROKEN AND I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT HOW SAFE CONSUMERS ARE WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR! THIS SPRING COULD EASILY DESTROY THE TIRE CAUSING A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT EVOLVING EVERYONE ON THE ROAD! CURRENTLY IT'S BEING FIXED AS THE NEW SPRINGS ARE ON ORDER! *TR
THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE STORE/AUTO REPAIR SHOP FOR EVALUATION OF EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR, AND SAGGING REAR SUSPENSION. MECHANIC FOUND BOTH REAR SPRINGS BROKEN IN ABOUT THE SAME SPOTS WHILE EXAMINING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED UNDER RECALL 3 YEARS AGO DUE TO BROKEN FRONT SPRINGS. OWNER ALREADY AWARE THAT REAR SPRINGS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL OR SUBJECT TO RECALL OF THEIR OWN. SPRINGS AND WORN STRUTS REPLACED, ALONG WITH NEW TIRES INSTALLED. COST OF NEW SPRINGS AND LABOR ALONE $250. OWNER INFORMED THAT PREMATURE TIRE WEAR (WEAR BARS SHOWING AND INNER SIDE WALL WEAR AT 26,000 MILES ON 40,000 MILE WARRANTY TIRES) WAS ATTRIBUTED TO BROKEN SPRINGS WHICH RENDERED VEHICLE OUT OF ALIGNMENT, THUS VOIDING WARRANTY ON TIRES. SPRINGS WERE NOT BROKEN WHEN THE TIRES WERE FIRST INSTALLED. THIS REQUIRED ADDITIONAL EXPENDITURE TO REPLACE TIRES THAT SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN SO BADLY WORN IN 2 YEARS TIME. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING WAS CORRODED. SHE WAS WARNED THAT IF SHE CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WOULD EVENTUALLY FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER TOOK A REPORT AND STATED THAT SHE WILL NEED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE ON HER OWN BECAUSE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS) WAS ONLY FOR THE FRONT SUSPENSION COIL SPRING. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,545 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,298.

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V266000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:PEDALS AND LINKAGES). THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 120,000.
THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AS NORMAL WHEN THE REAR END STARTED TO SAG. ONCE WE INSPECTED THE PROBLEM WE REALIZED BOTH REAR STRUT SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AT ABOUT THE SAME PLACE. AFTER INVESTIGATING WE FOUND THE FRONT SPRINGS WERE SERVICED UNDER A RECALL BUT REARS WEREN'T COVERED EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE PRONE TO THE SAME BREAKAGE. I AM GOING TO PAY TO HAVE REPAIRS DONE. *TR
REAR SPRINGS BROKE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. HAD TO REPLACE STRUTS AS WELL BECAUSE THEY WERE RUINED DUE TO SPRING FAILURE. *TR
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2000 MERCURY SABLE WITH 45,000 MILES. I REPLACED THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS AROUND 28-30 THOUSAND MILES BECAUSE OF A BREAKAGE, IN WHICH THE DEALER IS TAKING CARE OF GETTING THOSE REIMBURSED, BECAUSE THERE WAS A RECALL ON THOSE. ON 19 MAY 2008 GOT IN THE CAR TO GO TO SUNDAY BREAKFAST AS I PUT IT IN REVERSE & STARTED BACKING UP HEARD A NOISE, JUST THOUGHT IT WAS THE BREAKS SINCE IT WASN'T DRIVEN FOR A FEW DAYS. GOT ABOUT HALF WAY THERE & SMELLED SOMETHING NASTY WASN'T SURE WHAT IT WAS, GOT TURNED AROUND TO HEAD BACK HOME & POW! THE BACK DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE BLOWS OUT. IN CHANGING OUT THE TIRE TO THE SPARE I LOOKED & THE COIL SPRING WAS BROKE & WORE A FINE GROOVE IN THE BACK OF THE TIRE WHICH IS WHAT STUNK & PUNCTURED IT. FINALLY GOT BACK TO THE HOUSE & LOOKED AROUND WHERE THE CAR WAS PARKED & FOUND THE PIECE OF COIL SPRING THAT BROKE OFF WHEN I STARTED BACKING IT UP TO LEAVE. IN LOOKING AT THE BREAK IT WAS CLEAN BUT HAD RUST STREAKS RUNNING INTO THE BREAKAGE AREA. IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS FOR POSSIBLE BREAKAGE IN WHICH IT DID, WOULD LEAD ME TO THINK THAT THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE METAL THEY ARE MADE OF IF I REPLACED THE FRONT AT 28-30,000 MILES FOR THE SAME BREAKAGE. NOW, IT HAS 45,000 MILES WHICH IS WELL UNDER WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE FOR THAT YEAR, I HAVE TO REPLACE THE REAR ONES. PLUS, I NOT ONLY HAVE TO REPLACE THE COIL SPRINGS IN THE REAR, BUT ALSO HAVE TO REPLACE A TIRE & GET ANOTHER VEHICLE FOR THE TIME THAT THIS ONE IS DOWN. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. THANK YOU. *TR
SUDDEN FAILURE OF LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION DUE TO COIL SPRING FAILURE ON 2000 MERCURY SABLE. REPAIRS 680.00 . I UNDERSTAND, PER NHTSA PEO4044 THAT FORD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THESE VEHICLES TO 150K MILES OR 10 YEARS. I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER. CAN FORD REIMBURSE ME FOR THESE REPAIRS. *TR

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 4V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS) WAS REFERENCED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 55,000.
RAIN WATER LEAKS THROUGH THE HEATER INTO THE AUTO ON PASSENGER SIDE. THERE IS A TSB BUT ONLY FOR 3 MODEL YEARS. ALL OTHER MODEL YEARS ARE EXCLUDED. HOWEVER FMC SELLS THE PART TO REPLACE THE PART THAT IS DEFECTIVE FOR THE OMITTED MODEL YEARS. *TR
AFTER EXITING I-95 WITHIN A MINUTE OR SO I HEARD A BANG FROM UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR,FOLLOWED BY A CLANG SOUND BEHIND ME. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND PARKED THE CAR AND SEARCHED THE ROAD ABOUT 200 FEET BEHIND ME. I FOUND A PIECE OF BROKEN SPRING. I RECALLED RECEIVING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM FORD FOR THIS YEAR'S SABLES AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER HAD IT REPLACED , ALONG WITH THE OTHER FRONT SPRING. THE FORD DEALER RECOMMENDED I REPLACE THE STRUTS AND BUSHINGS, WHICH I DID ( THESE STRUTS AND BUSHINGS WERE DONE AT MY OWN COST.). *TR
2000 MERCURY SABLE, 62,900 MILES, MECHANIC FOUND THAT A REAR COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN AND RECOMMENDED THAT I REPLACE BOTH SPRINGS AND STRUT ASSEMBLIES. HE STATED THAT IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE SPRING COULD PUNCTURE THE TIRE. REPAIR COMPLETED AT A COST OF $912.00, FORD ONLY COVERS THE FRONT SPRINGS, BUT MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED TO FORD THAT THE REAR SPRINGS ARE FAILING AS WELL CAUSING SAFETY CONCERNS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT 5 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD END FAILED AND NEARLY PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO FAULTY STRUTS, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THE STRUTS WERE NOT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, BUT RATHER THE TIE ROD END ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. ON JANUARY 4, 2008, THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIE ROD END AT THE COST OF $142.42. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,001 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,004.

THERE IS A NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V258000 (VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR), BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE PURCHASE DATE AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 78,000.
CONCERNING A 2000 MERCURY SABLE'S DAYLIGHT ALWAYS ON SAFETY HEADLIGHTS. THE LIGHTS CLOSELY REREMBLE THE ACTUAL HEADLIGHTS SO AT NIGHT YOU DON'T KNOW IF YOUR REAL HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS ARE ON. I HAVE FOUND MYSELF DRIVING AT NIGHT WITHOUT THE REAL HEADLIGHTS ON. THUS I HAD NO TAIL LIGHTS ON, I WAS DRIVING WITH THE DAYLIGHT HEADLIGHTS ONLY UNTIL I NOTICED THAT THE DASH LIGHTS WERE OFF. *TR
MY 200 SABLE HAD THE REAR SPRINGS GO OUT ON IT. MY MECHANIC FOUND THIS OUT WHEN HE WAS PERFORMING A TIRE ROTATION. MY SPRINGS WERE TOTALLY SEPARATED/BROKEN. THANK GOODNESS THAT HE WAS DILIGENT WITH THIS OR ELSE IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR

BROKEN FRONT AND REAR SPRINGS ON MERCURY SABLE 4 DOOR CAR. THE FRONT SPRINGS BROKE FIRST AND WAS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AND IF THE BROKEN SPRING HAD IT THE TIRE I WOULD HAVE CRASHED ON THE FREEWAY. THE REAR SPRING BROKE LAST WEEK AND DID DESTROY THE TIRE AND AGAIN MY LIFE WAS THREATEN BY A CRASH. FORD ONLY RECOGNIZED THAT THEY WOULD PLACE SPRING GUARDS ON THE FRONT SPRINGS TO SAVE THEY RESPONSIBILITY FROM HAVE FRONT TIRES DESTROYED AND KILLING DRIVERS. FORD WILL NOT ADMIT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM; I SPENT ONE HALF HOUR ON THE PHONE WITH THEM AT THE CORPORATE OFFICE THIS WEEK. BECAUSE MY CAR IS OLDER THAN 5 YEARS, THEY WILL NOT EVEN EXTEND ANY CONSIDERATION FOR THE HUGE REPAIR COSTS INCLUDING NEW TIRES THAT WERE DESTROYED. I HAVE OWNED MANY CARS THE LAST FORTY YEARS AND WAS A LICENSED MASTER AUTO MECHANIC IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN AND ALSO A VOC. ED TEACHER IN POWER MECHANICS ( AUTOMECHANICS) . THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PUBLIC ISSUE AND WHEN TIRES ARE RUINED BY THE BROKEN SPRINGS THE CAR WILL GO OUT OF CONTROL ! *TR
TOOK 2000 MERCURY SABLE TO DEALER TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES SERVICED AND WAS TOLD THAT BOTH REAR SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. HAD THE DEALER REPLACE THEM FOR A FEE. 80,676 MILES. *TR
COMPONENT: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK DETAILS: VEHICLE WOULD START TO SPONTANEOUSLY ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN POWER. AFTER ENGINE WAS TURNED ON AND THE GEAR CHANGED TO DRIVE, VEHICLE WOULD JUMP ON ITS OWN. WHILE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, BRAKES STARTED TO MALFUNCTION, AND VEHICLE COULD ONLY STOP WHEN THE COMPLETE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWELVE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. DEFECT CAN CAUSE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL AND GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS ENGAGE SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE PEDALS ARE SET UNUSUALLY CLOSE TOGETHER. THE DRIVER HAS NO MEANS TO KNOW THE STATE OF PEDAL ADJUSTMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT INTO THE PROPER GEAR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY REPLACED THE CONVERTER, TRANSMISSION FLUID, BOLTS, AND JOINTS. ONE YEAR LATER, WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC MADE IDENTICAL REPAIRS AND STATED THAT BECAUSE THE CONVERTER WAS MANUFACTURED OUT OF PLASTIC, IT WOULD CONTINUALLY FAIL. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS (NHTSA CAMPAIGN #04V332000). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66,000. THE VEHICLE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I GOT A FLAT TIRE IN THE AM AND HAD IT CHANGED TO THE DONUT SO I COULD GET TO WHERE I PURCHASED THE TIRES FOR THE WARRANTY TO GET ME A NEW TIRE. I LEFT THE SHOP AND WITHIN 1 MILE THE NEW TIRE BLEW OUT ALSO. COME TO FIND OUT THE DRIVERS SIDE SPRING HAD BROKE AND WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE CAUSING IT TO BLOW OUT. I THEN HAD BOTH REAR SPRINGS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE STRUTS. *JB
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG, THEN A SECOND BANG. BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS BUSTED. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE SPRINGS ON THE SABLES ETC.... WHY IS IT THERE IS A RECALL FOR PROTECTIVE DEVICES TO KEEP THE FRONT SPRINGS FROM HITTING THE TIRES AND NOT THE REAR. THE REAR SPRINGS ARE BREAKING AT A HIGHER RATE THAN THE FRONT AND IS MORE DANGEROUS .. A PERSON CAN STEER A FRONT TIRE BLOW OUT, BUT MOST CANNOT STEER A REAR TIRE BLOW OUT... THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A LOUD BLOW. NOT TO MY SUPRISE ANOTHER ISSUE WITH MY CAR. MY LEFT REAR TIRE WAS SLICED ON THE INSIDE ALL THE WAY AROUND FROM THE BROKEN REAR COIL SPRING. I AM GLAD I WASN'T ON THE TOLLWAY WITH MY THREE CHILDREN. WILL SAVE PARTS AND WILL NOT FIX DUE TO PAYING MORE FOR THE PARTS THAN THE CAR IS WORTH. *TR
