The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V564000 (Exterior Lighting), however the vehicle was not part of the VIN selection. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER LS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT ON A COUNTRY ROAD. THE HIGH BEAMS WORKED FINE. I HAD TO LEAVE THEM ON WHEN I WAS CROSSING OTHER CARS, WHICH CAUSED THE OTHER DRIVERS TO FURIOUSLY FLASH THEIR HIGH BEAMS ON AND OFF AT ME. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY! TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MITSUBISHI DEALER WHO FIRST CHECKED THE FUSES, THEN TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH NEXT TO THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH DID NOT HELP. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE SWITCH SINCE IT DID NOT DO THE TRICK. ON A THURSDAY MORNING, I WAS ASKED TO LEAVE THE CAR WITH THEM FOR AT LEAST ONE DAY, POSSIBLY TWO SO THAT THEY COULD DO AN "IN-DEPTH" INVESTIGATION AND CHECK IF IT WAS A WIRING PROBLEM. I HAD TO RENT A CAR TO HAVE TRANSPORTATION. ON FRIDAY AT 5 PM, I RECEIVED A CALL THAT THEY FINALLY FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM AND IT HAD TO DO WITH A "SMART FUSE BOX" OR "ETACS", THAT IT WAS AN EXPENSIVE PART AND THEY DID NOT HAVE IT IN STOCK, SO I WOULD NOT GET MY CAR BACK UNTIL WEDNESDAY OF THE FOLLOWING WEEK! I ASKED HOW MUCH THE REPAIR WOULD COST AND WAS QUOTED $1,300! I SAID GIVE ME THE CAR BACK TONIGHT AND I'LL COME BACK WHEN THE PART COMES IN. WAS TOLD IT WOULD THEN COST EVEN MORE IN LABOR, BECAUSE IT WAS TAKEN APART AND WOULD NEED TO BE PUT BACK TOGETHER, THEN "OPENED UP" AGAIN! SO NOW I AM PAYING FOR THIS EXORBITANT REPAIR PLUS SEVERAL MORE DAYS FOR THE RENTAL. I SEE THAT MODELS 2009 AND UP HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE, AND AM OUTRAGED THAT THESE TECHNICIANS DID NOT FIGURE THIS OUT IMMEDIATELY, SINCE THEY HAVE DEALT WITH THE PROBLEM BEFORE. I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL MATTER AS WELL FOR THE 2007 MODELS. MY CAR ONLY HAS 75,000 MILES OR SO ON IT AND I WAS HOPING TO DRIVE IT FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER YEAR OR TWO. I WILL UPLOAD THE BILL WHEN I GET THE CAR BACK TOMORROW.
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECALLED. MITSUBISHI INSISTS I TAKE IT TO ONE OF THEIR DEALERSHIPS. THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP IS 228 MILES AND 3.5 HOURS ROUNDTRIP. I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD ALLOW ME TO GO A DIFFERENT LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT IS 20 MINS. ROUNDTRIP TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY SHOULD PAY FOR IT AS WELL. IT IS THEIR MISTAKE WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT WITH MY TIME AND MONEY? PLEASE HELP. *TR
THE BRAKE SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED. THERE IS FAILURE OF THE BRAKE LAMPS TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THIS CAN RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD THAT MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE INITIAL RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR

IT WAS UNKNOWN AS TO WHEN THE PART WOULD ARRIVE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT ILLUMINATING AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.

MY INTERIOR LIGHTS DON'T GO OFF WHEN I CLOSE THE DOORS. THE DEALER THOUGHT BY REPLACING THE DRIVER'S SIDE SWITCH IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT IT DID NOT. SO, I HAVE TO LEAVE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS OFF. *JB
