WE HAD A SPONTANEOUS SUNROOF GLASS EXPLOSION. WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY GOING 65MPH AT NIGHT, AND THERE WAS NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND. ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A LARGE EXPLOSION SOUND. I THOUGHT AT FIRST THAT A TIRE MAY HAVE BLOWN. I THEN HEARD A LARGE AMOUNT OF WIND COMING FROM THE TOP OF CAR. I PULLED OVER TO INSPECT AND SAW THE SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED, WITH MANY OF THE PIECES ON TOP OF THE INSIDE SHIELD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, WHEN ACTIVATED, FAILED TO RETURN TO THE DOWNWARD POSITION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAYWARD MITSUBISHI (25601 MISSION BLVD, HAYWARD, CA 94544; 510-999-5999) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD MOTOR WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V792000 (VISIBILITY/WIPER) WAS RECEIVED IN NOVEMBER OF 2016. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE RECALL REMEDY WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE PROVIDED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THE FIRST TIME I DROVE THIS VEHICLE IN THE SNOW I REALIZED THAT THE WIPERS ARE PLACED BELOW THE HEATED PART OF THE WINDSHIELD. THIS CAUSES THE WIPERS TO FREEZE UP AND NOT CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD PROPERLY REDUCING VISIBILITY. I THINK THAT AN ANGLED WIPER ARM THAT PLACES THE WIPER OVER THE DEFOG WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM.I'VE DRIVEN IN SNOWY WEATHER TWICE SINCE AND IT HAS HAPPENED EACH TIME. *TR
