WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF, FORCING CONSUMER TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT HEADLIGHT WIRING MELTED. *AK
THE VEHICLE'S TIRES HYDROPLANE FREQUENTLY ON WET SURFACES. THE DEALER STATES THAT THE TREAD WAS NOT DESIGNED TO DISBURSE WATER. *NM *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR HIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE NEEDS A NEW ENGINE, BUT THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE DEALER DAMAGED WHAT THEY WERE TRYING TO PREVENT. NISSAN AND THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS OFFICE DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE IN THE MATTER. THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED IN JANUARY OF 2004 AND THE HEAD GASKET WAS REPAIRED THAT SAME YEAR. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 145,400 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
2002 NISSAN ALTIMA 3.5L OIL CONSUMPTION! I HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE 18 MILES, I HAVE DONE OIL CHANGES EVERY 3K. I LOSE ALMOST A QUART EVERY 1K MILES. I HAVE SEEN MANY ISSUES WITH THE VQ AND STILL NO RECALL. PLEASE HELP! *TR
I HAVE A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PRE-CAT AND IT WAS REPLACED...IN THE RECALL IT STATES THAT IF THE PRE-CAT IS REPLACED THEN THE ENGINE HAS TO BE ALSO BUT IT WAS NOT. MY ENGINE BURNS 2QTS OF OIL A WEEK AND MAKES A WEIRD NOISE. I WANT THIS TAKEN CARE OF. *TR

2ND PROBLEM W/ CONTINENTAL BRAND TIRES ON MY 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. ORIGINAL SET WAS REPLACED (50/50% PAYED) BETWEEN NISSAN CORPORATION & CONTINENTAL CORPORATION AT APPROX. 18,000 MILES ON VEHICLE.*AK REPLACEMENT SET SHOWING/DISPLAYING SAME PROBLEMS....PRE-MATURE WEAR, CRACKS IN TREADS, FLAT SPOTS. TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED AT SUGGESTED MANUFACTURER INTERVALS, AND I HAVE SERVICE RECORDS TO VERIFY AGAIN.
THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO CHANGE THE OXYGEN SENSOR, BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE OXYGEN SENSOR BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *AK *SC *JB
WAS DRIVING 40-MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. DRIVER HAD MANAGED TO GET VEHICLE OUT OF TRAFFIC AND TOWED TO THE DEALER. DEALERSHIP HAD REPLACED THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR TWICE. DRIVER DON'T FEEL SAFE ANY MORE TO DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. *PH
I PURCHASED A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA IN NOVEMBER OF 2001. TWICE WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, I WAS STRANDED WHEN MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER TURNING IT OFF. BOTH TIMES THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE TOLD ME THAT SOME MINOR ADJUSTMENTS FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME MY VEHICLE FAILED WAS THIS WEEK, AND IT PUT MY BABY DAUGHTER AND I IN A LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION. AS WE TRAVELED DOWN I-10 AT THE RATE OF 70 MPH MY CAR STALLED. I LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AND ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. COME TO FIND OUT, NISSAN KNOWS OF A FAULTY SENSOR THAT EXISTS IN SOME OF THEIR LATER MODEL VEHICLES, AND IS WAITING UNTIL DECEMBER TO LAUNCH A RECALL CAMPAIGN. I FIND THIS TO BE HIGHLY UNACCEPTABLE BECAUSE IN THE MEANTIME DRIVERS OF THESE VEHICLES ARE AT GREAT RISK. *LA
WHILE DRIVING IN SEVERE WIND GUSTS, WE HEARD A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE EMANATING FROM THE FRONT, LEFT POST AREA. SOMETIMES THE SOURCE WAS THE RIGHT FRONT. THE NOISE ERUPTED AS THE WIND GUSTED AT SHARP ANGLES AND THE CAR STEERED INTO OR AWAY FROM THE GUSTS. THE NOISE WAS HIGHLY PRONOUNCED. I RULED OUT ANYTHING MECHANICAL BECAUSE WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME NOISE WHENEVER THE GUSTS INCREASED AND THE CAR WAS THROWN LEFT OR RIGHT. TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED TO CUT RIGHT INTO THE GUSTS AND THE SOUND WAS SO INTENSE THAT WE THOUGHT IT RESEMBLED A BUZZSAW TRYING TO CUT ITS WAY INTO THE WINDSHIELD/POST AREA. WE MENTIONED THIS PHENOMENON TO OUR CAR DEALER (HARBOR NISSAN, PORT CHARLOTTE, FL). THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD US HE HAS HAD THIS COMPLAINT FROM OTHER NISSAN OWNERS AND THAT HE, TOO, THOUGHT IT WAS THE WIND REACTING AGAINST THE CONFIGURATION OF THE VEHICLE. OUR VEHICLE IS A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE NOISE LASTS ONLY A SPLIT SECOND, SOMETIMES AS LONG AS A SECOND. BUT IT IS PERSISTENT IN HIGH GUSTS. WE LEASED THIS VEHICLE IN JUNE 2002 AND HAD NEVER BEFORE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. WE HAD NOT ENCOUNTERED SUCH HIGH GUSTS UNTIL THE PERIOD I REPORT HERE. WE WERE ON AN EXTENDED TRIP AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED OUTBOUND AND INBOUND. I'M CONFIDENT THERE IS NO MECHANICAL PROBLEM. BUT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW OF SORTS. *LA
COLD MORNING, CAR WOULD NOT START EVEN AFTER TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE REACHED 45 DEGREES. DEALER INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY CRANK ANGLE POSITION SENSOR AND REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME THE CAR WOULD NOT START DURING "COLD WEATHER", FIRST TIME THEY'RE WE'RE ABLE TO MAKE A DIAGNOSIS. HOPE THEY WE'RE CORRECT THIS TIME!*AK
LOST OF HEAT THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE WATER PUMP,HEAT BOX,TERMOSTAT'S, FLUSHED COOLING SYSTEM & STILL I LOSE HEAT. THEY HAVE CONTACTED THE ENGINEERS IN CALIF. AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT WRONG EITHER. ONE SHOULD BE HERE IN DETROIT BY MARCH 22,2005 TO TRY AND SOLVE THE PROBLEM. NOW THE CAR IS BURNING OIL, WHIN IN A WEEK I HAVE TO REPLACE OIL IN THE CAR BECAUSE ALL THE OIL IS GONE AND IT'S NOT LEAKING. *AK
LEFT HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLY - DEFECT- LIGHT BULB CONTINUES TO BLOW OUT WHEN TURNED ON. *LA
2002 NISSAN ATLIMA CUSTOMER STATES SINCE 30,000 MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON**CC THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO DEFROST THE WINDOWS, DUE TO THE DEFROSTER BEING INOPERATIVE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER, SO HE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE HIS FOOT OFF THE GAS AND EVENTUALLY IT WOULD GAIN SPEED. THE CONSUMER HAD VARIOUS REPAIRS MADE ON THE VEHICLE. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DETERIORATING, THE VALVE COVER GASKET WAS REPLACED, THE HEADLIGHT WAS REPLACED 3 TIMES, THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO REPLACED THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW ENGINE AFTER EXPERIENCING THE STALLING AND NO START PROBLEMS. *JB
MY RIGHT FRONT BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL42 (P205/65R16) TIRE CAME OFF THE RIM AS A WHOLE WHILE DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY. MY CAR VIOLENTLY TURNED RIGHT AND BEGAN HEADING SOUTHBOUND AGAINST ONCOMING TRAFFIC, THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY CAR THEN SMASHED INTO THE GUARDRAIL AT 70 MPH AND SPUN INTO THE LOCAL TRAFFIC LANES ON THE OTHERSIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. *LA
WHENEVER THE FUEL TANK IS FILLED FUEL WOULD OVER FLOW. ALSO, FRONT BALL JOINTS WERE WORN OUT, CAUSING THE FRONT END TO WOBBLE. SOMETIMES IT WA SHARD TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF VEHICLE.*AK
I HAD AN ACCIDENT WHERE I WAS HIT GOING ABOUT 35 MPH IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CORNER AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO RECALL THAT WAS NOT PERFORMED BY NISSAN. *AK
I HAVE HAD REOCCURING BRAKING PROBLEMS WITH MY 02 NISSAN XTERRA FOR THE PAST YEAR. THE BRAKES DO NOT ADEQUATELY STOP THE VEHICLE AND GRAB/RELEASE WHEN COMING TO A STOP MAKING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT AT TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALER THREE SEPARATE TIMES FOR SERVICE AND THE PROBLEM HAS STILL NOT BEEN REMEDIED. I WAS RECENTLY TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT COME UP WITH A SOLUTION.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE ENTIRE EMISSION SYSTEM AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ACCORDING TO A VOLUNTARY RECALL. THE CONVERTER WAS NOT REPLACED BECAUSE THE DEALER WOULD NOT DO IT FOR FREE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 86,323.
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *NLM
DEFECT ROTOR: I HAVE BEING DRIVING MY ALTIMA 02 FOR 2 YEARS. THREE WEEKS AGO (22 MONTH), AT LESS THAN 17000 MILES, I TOOK MY CAR FOR A BRAKE CHECK BECAUSE IT MADE A LOT OF NOISE. THE TECHNICIAN AT PERFORMANCE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOUND THAT BOTH REAR ROTORS AND PADS NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE FRONT ROTORS NEEDED TO BE CLEANED AND MACHINED. IT SURPRISED ME SINCE IT IS SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND MILEAGE. BY THE WAY, I PLACED A ORDER FOR REAR ROTORS FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN TX. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE TO PLACE A NATIONAL ORDER TO FIND THE PART, AND I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME FOR THE PART TO COME IN. SO EVERYDAY, I HAVE TO WALK TO WORK. RUSTY GAS INTAKE PIPE: THERE IS A HOLE AT THE INTAKE ABOVE THE LEFT REAR TIRE, SO MUD AND WATER CAME IN DURING SNOW WEATHER, THEN THE INTAKE MOUTH BECAME RUSTY.*JB
THE CAM SENSOR LOCATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WITHOUT WARNING . THE LIGHT APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING SHE HEARD A POPPYING NOISE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN NO POWER NO BRAKES, STEERING. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM
IN 2003, NISSAN CONDUCTED A RECALL OF 2002 ALTIMA'S, REF #03V-084, IN WHICH THEY WERE TO CORRECT A FIRE HAZARD RESULTING FROM ENGINE DAMAGE CAUSED BY A FAILURE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR. ON 9/8/03, A NISSAN DEALER COMPLETED REPAIRS UNDER THE RECALL. OVER THE LAST YEAR, MY VEHICLE HAD VERY HIGH TEMPERATURES UNDER THE HOOD AND BEGAN CONSUMING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. IN AUGUST 2006, THE 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' LIGHT CAME ON AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR HAD FAILED AND WAS THE PROBABLE CAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A NISSAN DEALER WHO PERFORMED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE VEHICLE BURNED 2 QUARTS OF OIL IN 600 MILES AND ADVISED ME THE ENGINE WAS MOST LIKELY DAMAGED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY REFUSED TO COMPLETE ANY DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR REPLACED AGAIN AND THE INTERIOR SURFACES OF THE CONVERTOR INSTALLED AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL ARE CLEARLY DISINTEGRATED. I HAVE THE OLD PART AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION IF NEEDED. THE REPAIRS NISSAN COMPLETED IN ITS RECALL DID NOT RESOLVE THE DEFECT AND ARE A CONTINUING SAFETY HAZARD. *JB
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY IN PASSING LANE, ENGINE LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER, STEERING AND BRAKES. VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN AND BROKE DOWN 3 MORE TIMES BEFORE ARRIVING AT DEALERSHIP. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT SUPPLY LOANER VEHICLE, LEFT WITHOUT VEHICLE AND DEALERSHIP DOES NOT KNOW IF OR WHEN VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. VEHICLE HAS 14000 MILES AND OIL WAS CHANGED ABOUT 200 MILES AGO. *AK
"PURE" GAS SMELL IN EXHAUST....VEHICLE FAILS TO RESTARTS AFTER BEING DRIVEN SHORT DISTANCES , TURNE OFF, AND RE-STARTED. HAS HAPPENED SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE....DEALERSHIP/REPAIR NEVER FINDS ANY PROBLEMS. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED OVER A YEAR. CAR WILL NOT RE-START, UNLESS I WAIT 2-4 HOURS & TRY AGAIN. DEALERSHIP/SERVICE SAID MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH WHERE I PURCHASE FUEL....BUT I FILL UP AT SEVERAL PLACES THROUGH OUT THE WEEK...SO I KNOW THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING.*AK
VEHICLE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING AT ANY SPEED. NISSAN MECHANIC AT LOCAL DEALERSHIIP WITNESSED THE CAR STALLING. NISSAN ENGINEERS STATE THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE, CANNOT ACTIVELY DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND THEREFORE HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE CAR. THIS CAR IS AN UNCALCULATING RISK NOT ONLY TO PASSENGERS, BUT TO ANYONE ON THE HIGHWAY. NISSAN SHOULD TAKE POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE TO CONDUCT FURTHER TESTING AND REPLACE THIS VEHICLE FOR HIGHWAY USE. *JB
NISSAN REPLACED THE RADIATOR/PARTS THREE TIMES BUT THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO SMELL ANTIFREEZE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. *PH SEVERAL ATTEMPT BY DIFFERENT SERVICE DEALER HAVE BEEN MADE TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM, BUT NONE HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL. *NM
ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, 08/07/03 BEING THE LATEST, MY CAR HAS STALLED, OR SHOWN POOR ACCELLERATION WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING OVER 65 MPH, SOON AFTER STARTING THE CAR AND PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE, AND A SMALL TIME PERIOD AFTER DRIVING IT. ON ONE OCCASION I EXITED OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO A BUSY TWO-WAY TRAFFIC ROAD, TO CROSS TO THE OTHER SIDE AND IT STALLED WHILE THERE WAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS VERY RELUCTANT THAT THE TRAFFIC SPEED WASN'T HIGH, FOR THEY MAY NOT HAVE HAD THE TIME TO SLOW DOWN. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES TO MY DEALER, AND OTHER CAR MAINTENANCE SHOPS, AND THEY SAY THAT THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM, AND IN ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM, THEY MUST DUPLICATE IT. BUT THE PROBLEM THAT COMES FROM THAT IS, IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ON A RECURRING BASIS. IT CAN HAPPEN HOURS APART TO 2 MONTHS APART. IT GIVES NO WARNING, AND IT GOES BACK TO RUNNING NORMAL AS IF NOTHING HAS EVER HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS AFTER.*AK
I WAS DRIVING FROM MI TO IL ON THE DAY BEFORE MY STARTING MY NEW JOB IN ILLINOIS. THIRTY MILES OUT FROM MY DESTINATION, THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN AS I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY AND WAIT OVER TWO HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK. THE DEALER CLAIMS THE MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) SENSOR WAS AT FAULT. ALTHOUGH THE MAF SENSOR WAS REPLACED, I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS THE COMPONENT THAT DISABLED THE VEHICLE ON THIS DATE. THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN WITHOUT FIRST GOING INTO "LIMP" MODE. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR (CPS). AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE CPS. I DID NOT HAVE IT REPLACED PRIOR TO MY DRIVE BECAUSE I DID NOT RECEIVE NOTIFICATION. THE CPS WAS REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE MAF. WHAT PROMPTS THIS COMPLAINT IS THE MAF SENSOR. THE VEHICLE IS NOW ON THE THIRD MAF. THE FIRST ONE WAS REPLACED ON 8/2003. THE SECOND MAF WAS REPLACED ON 1/14/2004, WHICH LASTED LESS THAN SIX MONTHS. THE FAILURE MODE FOR THE FIRST MAF SENSOR ALLOWED WARNING: THE ENGINE DID NOT SHUT OFF, BUT INSTEAD LIMITED THE ENGINE SPEED TO 2500RPM. FORTUNATELY, BOTH MAF SENSORS WERE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. IN ADDITION TO MAF SENSORS AND OPEN RECALLS, MY VEHICLE HAS A NEW ECM AND THROTTLE BODY (IACS). MY EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS SINCE EXPIRED, AND I AM CURRENTLY WORKING WITH NISSAN IN GETTING A NEW EXTENDED WARRANTY OUT OF GOODWILL FOR THESE PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED IN THE LESS THAN TWO YEARS I HAVE OWNED THIS NISSAN. MY PREVIOUS VEHICLES WERE FORD PRODUCTS, AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THOSE AS I HAVE WITH THIS NISSAN. I AM CURRENTLY HAVING DIFFICULTY IN HAVING NISSAN RETURNING MY COMMUNICATION. *JB
HAD UNUSUAL TIRE BLOWOUT/SEPARATION DRIVING AT CITY SPEEDS NOT GREATER THAN 40MPH. DID NOT RUN OVER NAIL OR GLASS OR HAVE PUNCTURE.HESE WERE BRAND NEW TIRES WITH LESS THAN 1000 MILES ON THEM. BOUGHT FROM BIG O.*AK CONTINENTAL P205 65 R16 94T. THE TIRE HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED.
I WAS DRIVING WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, THE VEHICLE SKIDDED AND STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I WAS DRIVING AND MY 14 MONTH OLD WAS IN THE BACK SEAT. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. I FEW HOURS LATER I WAS CONTACTED BY THE ASSISTANT MANAGER OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR HAD GONE OUT. THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED SO I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD BE WITHOUT MY VEHICLE FOR A DAY OR MAYBE EVEN A WEEK. I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE OTHER VEHICLES IN THE SHOP WAITING FOR SIMILAR PARTS. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 20 DAYS NOW AND I JUST KEEP GETTING THE RUN-AROUND. THIS IS PROBABLY A PART THAT WILL EVENTUALLY NEED TO BE RECALLED BUT I GUESS NISSAN IS WAITING FOR A TRADEGY TO OCCUR BEFORE THEY TAKE ACTION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING DURING COLD DAYS AT ANY SPEED ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN , AND FORCE CONSUMER TO PULL OF THE ROAD. THIS WAS DUE TO A FAULTY GAS MODULE SENSOR. CONSUMER MOST HAVE AT LEAST HALF TANK OF GAS TO AVOID FREEZING UP THE MODULE SENSOR.*AK
MY 2002 4 CYLINDER NISSAN ALTIMA HAS SUFFERED TWO COMPLETE STARTER MOTOR FAILURES. ONCE AT APPROX. 2000 MILES AND AGAIN AT 10,000 MILES VEHICLE WOULD NOT START ON BOTH OCCASIONS. *NLM

WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, MY CAR DIED. IT WAS A HOT DAY, THE AC WAS ON. I TURNED IT OFF, IT STARTED AFTER HESITATING TO TURN OVER. SAME EXACT SITUATION EXCEPT I WAS COASTING DOWN A HILL THE NEXT DAY AND IT DIED, HOT/AC WAS ON. THAT TIME, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. I JUST GOT IT BACK TODAY AND ON THE WAY HOME (AGAIN, HOT DAY, AC ON), IT DIED AGAIN. THE SERVICE TICKET THAT I HAVE SAYS: JOB 1-PARTS ORDERED MANIFOLD EXHAUST,COVER-EXHAUST M,BEARING-SEAL E,GASKET-EXHAUST AND REPLACE CONVERTER AND HEAT SHIELD. JOB 2- PART WAS SPRING KIT, INSTALL NEW COIL REGISTER. I DID NOTICE DURING THIS TIME THAT MY OIL WAS RATHER ON THE LOW SIDE AND I ADDED 2 QTS. I HAVE NOT SINCE CHECKED THE OIL NOR WAS IT TIME TO CHANGE THE OIL. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK TOMORROW MORNING. *JB

THE CONSUMER NOTICED EVERY 1000 MILES THE ENGINE CONSUMED ONE QUART OF OIL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. *JB
INTERMITTENTLY WHILE TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD TAKE AN EXTREMELY LONG TIME. THE CONSUMER CLAIMED THAT BLACK SMOKE BLEW FROM THE TAIL PIPE. THE DEALER HAS EXAMINED THE VEHICLE THREE TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. *JB
REAR BRAKE CALIPERS CORRODED AND FAILED TO PERFORM PROPERLY. CALIPERS SEIZED IN AN APPLIED BRAKE FASHION (CONSTANT PRESSURE ON THE ROTORS). BOTH REAR BRAKES HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED TO THE POINT WHERE THERE IS NO MORE PAD ON THE BRAKES, ONLY METAL-TO-METAL CONTACT BETWEEN THE PAD BASE AND THE ROTORS. THE PADS, SHIMS, AND ROTORS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR IS ONLY 1.5 YRS OLD, WITH 35,000 HIGHWAY MILES ON IT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE DEALER HAS INDICATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES ARE CLOSE TO THE SAME CONDITION. DEALER/NISSAN HAVE INDICATED THAT A $200 MAINTENANCE VISIT EVERY 15,OOO MILES IS REQUIRED TO PREVENT THIS. IN 150K+, AND 190K+ ,MILES ON 2 OF MY OLD HONDAS (I OWNED THEM FROM DAY 1) I NEVER HAD TO PERFORM THIS KIND OF MAINTENANCE, AND NEVER HAD THIS KIND OF FAILURE. SAME GOES FOR MY 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN (60K+ MILES AND NO PROBLEMS WITH FRONT CALIPERS)
WHILE DRIVING, MY 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 S HAS STALLED AND LEFT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC LANES. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES (INCLUDING ONCE BEING STALLED ON RAILROAD TRACKS). MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO CO-OPERATE WITH ME, TELLING ME ONE TIME THAT IT WAS THE "CAM SENSOR," ANOTHER I WAS TOLD "THE VEHICLE WAS FLOODED," AND THE LAST TIME I GOT NO ASSISTANCE (INCLUDING NO LOANER VEHICLE!). THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT THESE PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED BY MY ACTIONS (AS THOUGH I AM UNABLE TO OPERATE A VEHICLE CORRECTLY). I AM CONSIDERING TAKING LEGAL ACTION, AS THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE FOR ME AND OTHERS AROUND ME. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE LATEST RECALL UNTIL RESEARCHING ONLINE FEW WEEKS AGO (3 MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL WAS ISSUED), I NOW HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THIS SITUATION REMEDIED NEXT WEEK. I HOPE TO GET THE EXCESSIVE USE OF OIL SITUATION SOLVED AS WELL. I HAVE A NISSAN ALTIMA 2002. THERE ARE LATCHES ON THE REAR LEFT AND RIGHT SEAT BUT NOT IN THE MIDDLE SEAT - THE SAFEST ONE. WHY CAN'T I PUT THE CAR SEAT IN THE MIDDLE USING THE INNER MOST LATCHES FROM THE LEFT AND RIGHT SEAT? IT SAYS IN THE MANUAL AND ONLINE NOT TO, BUT WITH NO REASON WHY.
