FRONT FLOOR BOARDS ARE RUSTED THROUGH. DIDNT NOT NOTICE UNTIL AN INSPECTION WAS DONE. FIND THIS VERY ALARMING AS IT CAN BE UNRECOGNIZED WHEN STEPPING ON IT FROM INSIDE, AS THE CARPET HIDES AND SUPPORTS THE PARTIAL BODY WEIGHT WHEN STEPPING INTO THE VEHICLE. EXTREMRELY DANGEROUS FOR ANYBODY IN FRONT SEATS.
FUEL PUMP LEAKED UNDER THE BACK SEAT AND SPREAD THE GAS ALL AROUND THE SEAT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA EQUIPPED WITH GENERAL ALTIMAX RT43 (NA) TIRES, SIZE: 215/60/R16 (NA). WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY FOR INVESTIGATIVE PURPOSES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONFIRMED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SIDEWALL HAD DETACHED FROM THE TIRE. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE REPLACEMENT TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.
GOT IN MY CAR AND MY BOOT LITERALLY WENT THREW THE FLOOR IN MY DRIVEWAY NOT ON OR ANYTHING !! THIS IS DANGEROUS NISSAN HAS A BULLETIN NUMBER NTB15-059 BUT WILL NOT PAY TO FIX THE ISSUE THEY CAUSED ??? INSANE A CAR SHOULDN'T BE DOING THIS ANYMORE WHERE NOT IN THE 80S THE METAL SHOULDN'T BE ROTTED AND SO THIN THAT IN 10 YEARS ITS SHOT LIKE AN 80S TRUCK. IF THIS HAPPENED IN THE BACK SEATS WITH MY DAUGHTER WHAT WOULD THE PROBLEM BE THEN MY CHILD GETTING CUT ON RUST AND HAVING POSSIBLE HEALTH ISSUES !!! THIS IS DANGEROUS AND IF I WAS DRIVING I WOULD HAVE LOST MY FOOT .. PLEASE MAKE NISSAN FIX THIS ISSUE ITS GETTING WAY OUT OF HAND AND SORRY NOT ALL OF US CAN AFFORD NEW CARS TO REPLACE THIS ISSUE.
I WAS INVOLED IN AN ACCIDENT GOING AROUND 40 MPH WHEN THE COLLISION HAPPENED. MY ENTIRE FRONT END OF MY CAR WAS CRUSHED TO AND BEYOND THE RADIATOR, AS WELL AS THE HOOD BENT LIKE AN A SHAPE. NONE OF MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AT ALL AND NISSAN HAS NOT CONTACTED ME AFTER THERE FIRST EMAIL SAYING SOMEONE WOULD BE IN CONTACT WITH ME WITHIN 2 TO 3 DAYS. I WAS DRIVING IN THE RIGHT LANE ON A TWO LANE ROAD WHEN A VEHICLE FROM THE LEFT LANE MOVED OVER RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND LOCKED UP THEIR BRAKES FOR NO REASON. I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TIME TO HARDLY HIT MY BRAKES BEFORE WE COLLIDING. THE WAS A POLICE REPORT AND EVERYTHING , BUT KNOW THEY CANT FIND THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE AND I CANT GET NISSAN TO TALK TO ME ABOUT WHY MY AIRBAGS WOULD NOT WORK AT A CRASH AT THAT SPEED. THIS TOOK PLACE IN A CITY. I STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY POLICE REPORT OR ANYTHING AND ITS BEEN ALMOST A MONTH. IM HAVING DOCTOR BILLS PILE UP AND DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING UP A RAMP AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND JERK. THE RPMS INCREASED FROM 35 TO 4,000. THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO FAIL AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THIS WAS A RECURRING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000.
" TAKATA RECALL " . THE CAR HAS BEEN GIVING ENGINE PROBLEMS BUT I DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS UNTIL I SEARCHED IT ONLINE AND I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS MANY COMPLAINT ON THE RECALL WEBSITE. THE ENGINE WHILE ON SLOW DRIVE OR WHEN ON A FULL STOP IT SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME A COUPLE OF TIMES ONCE I WAS ON A HIGHWAY BUT THERE WAS TRAFFIC AND MY CAR SHUT DOWN. ANOTHER TIME I WAS AT A REGULAR CITY ROAD AND I WAS DRIVING SLOW LOOKING FOR PARKING AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN BUT THANKFULLY THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS FAR AND I TURNED MY BLINKERS ON, BUT THANKFULLY NO CRASHES AS OF YET. MANY OTHER TIMES IT HAS SHUT DOWN ON RED LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS ANYWHERE THAT IT HAS BEEN SLOW MOTION. RECENTLY AFTER SO LONG OF HAVING THESE TROUBLES, MY CAR WILL TAKE FOREVER TO TURN ON. IT STARTS BUT IT MAKES A WEIRD NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND IT SHUTS DOWN. I AM A FULL TIME STUDENT AND IT WOULD BE GREAT TO FIX MY CAR AND ACTUALLY DRIVE TO SCHOOL WITH LESS WORRIES THAT MY CAR WILL SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY OR REGULAR ROAD AND BE IN A FATAL CRASH. I HAVE ALSO TRIED MALECHANICS OR CHECK THE ENGINE WITH THE MACHINES AND EVERYONE IS SAYING THAT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE ENGINE AND I HAVE CHECKED THE ENGINE MYSELF, THE ENGINE IS HOT, SHAKES, MAKES NOISES.
WELL ONE DAY I WAS GOING GROCERY SHOPPING AND WE GET TO THE STORE TAKE THE KEY OUT THE IGNITION LOCK THE CAR UP. SO WHEN I COME OUT THE GROCERY STORE GET IN THE CAR MY IGNITION WAS LIKE IT WAS LOCKING UP ON ME. SO I PLAYED WITH THE IGNITION FOR ABOUT A HOUR THEN FINALLY MY CAR TURNED OVER. NOW ITS A BRAND NEW START AND IGNITION SWITCH ON THERE AND IT KEEPS DOING THE SAME THING I REALLY THING THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM OR THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS.
I DISCOVERED AROUND THIS DATE THAT MY DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARDS ARE RUSTED OUT AND ALMOST HAVE HOLES ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE FLOORBOARD.
THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING MULTIPLE LARGE WHOLES IN THE FLOOR UNDER BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE WHERE YOU WOULD NORMALLY PLACE YOUR FEET. AT THIS POINT THE CAR CANNOT PASS A SAFETY INSPECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FLOORBOARDS ON THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES WERE ROTTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
THE FLOOR BOARDS ON THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE FRONT HAVE RUSTED THROUGH.
MY DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARDS ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A LOUD SCRAPING SOUND WHEN I GOT OUT TO LOOK HALF MY DRIVERS FLOOR WAS ON THE FLOOR SO I GO CHECK MY PASSENGER SIDE AND IT IS ALSO COMPLETELY RUSTED BUT DIDN'T FALL YET. *TR
I HAVE NOTICED THERE IS EXTENSIVE RUST AT THE FLOORBOARD AT THE DRIVERS SEAT. THAT IS VERY LOCALIZED AND APPEARS TO BE DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW THAT RETAINS WATER THERE. I ALSO FEEL THIS COULD BE A STRUCTURAL PROBLEM.
FLOOR PANELS RUSTING OUT. HAD CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND MECHANIC TOLD ME THERE WAS MAJOR RUST IN THE FLOOR BOARDS AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED SOON. THE CAR HAS BEEN GARAGED DAILY SINCE IT WAS PURPOSED NEW AT JEFF WYLER NISSAN, CINCINNATI AREA. NOT A LOT OF ROAD SALT USED IN THIS AREA. UNDERSTAND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS IN PLACE.
AFTER NOTICING EXCESSIVE RUST ON BOTH FRONT FLOOR PANELS OF MY 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA, I GOOGLED "NISSAN RUST" AND READ THE MANY ARTICLES AND NEWS SHOWS ON THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS. I LIVE I ST LOUIS, SO NOT A EASTERN STATE WITH EXCESSIVE COLD AND SNOW. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS DEFECT, AND WOULD HOPE NISSAN WOULD BE FORCED TO OFFER A RECALL TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT.
2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR PANEL RUST EATING AWAY AT FLOOR BOARDS. *SMD UPDATED 09/25/15*LJ UPDATED 12/06/2017*CN
THERE IS A RUST HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR PAN ABOUT 5X10 INCHES THIS IS VERY CONCERNING AND GOING TO BE A VERY COSTLY REPAIR THAT I CAN NOT AFFORD.
PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PANEL WAS NOTED TO BE RUSTED THROUGH UPON INSPECTION AFTER SMELLING EXHAUST FUMES WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IT APPEARS TO HAVE RUSTED FROM INSIDE THE PANEL OUT AS THE BULGING OF THE RUSTED PANEL DOWNWARD TOWARD THE GROUND SUGGESTS. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS INSPECTED BUT FROM WHAT HAS BEEN SHARED THUS FAR, NISSAN HAS NOT ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY (YET) FOR REPAIRS. I AM HOPING NISSAN WILL VOLUNTARILY INSPECT THIS MODEL TO DETERMINE A SUITABLE REMEDY, OTHERWISE THIS WILL BE THE LAST NISSAN I CHOOSE TO OWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSUMED EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT DEBRIS ENTERED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND DAMAGED THE ENGINE. THE MECHANIC REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V084000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) IN 2005. THE RECALL REMEDY DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
I PURCHASED MY CAR IN 2013 AS A USED 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. THIS PAST JUNE OF 2015, MY MECHANIC NOTICED LARGE RUSTED OUT AREAS BEHIND EACH FRONT TIRE ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE. THE DRIVER SIDE WAS RUSTED SO BADLY THAT ONE COULD EASILY TAKE CHUNKS OF RUSTED UNDERCARRIAGE OFF. I QUICKLY NOTICED A LARGE HOLE, REALIZING THAT WITHOUT CARPET BENEATH MY FEET I WOULD HAVE HAD MY LEFT FOOD THROUGH TO THE GROUND. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THIS IS AN ALL TOO FREQUENT OCCURANCE IN NISSAN ALTIMAS MADE IN 2002-2006, AND NISSAN REFUSES TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND/OR PAY FOR DAMAGES. WITH THESE FACTS IN MIND, ONE CAN SEE THAT THIS IS CLEARLY NOT AN ISSUE OF POOR CARE AND MAINTENANCE BY THE OWNER, NOR CAN IT BE BLAMED ON SALT AND CHEMICALS ON THE ROAD IN SNOWY AREAS. THIS ISSUE WAS UNSAFE TO MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS. IF THE RUST HAD SPREAD, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED DAMAGE TO OTHER AREAS OF THE CAR, RISKING PERMANENT DAMAGE, AN UNSAFE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD, AND CAUSING POTENTIAL HARM TO MY PASSENGERS AND MYSELF. THE REPAIR FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE DID NOT COME AT A LOW PRICE, AND THE SCENARIO IS ETERNALLY FRUSTRATING. I WILL NEVER BUY A NISSAN ALTIMA AGAIN, AND WILL CONTINUE TO WARN FRIENDS AND FAMILY AGAINST PURCHASING NISSANS.
5/31/2015 AT ABOUT 9:40PM. THERE WERE LINES OF CARS LEAVING STARFIRE SPORTS IN TUKWILA, WA OFF OF 405 EXIT 1 BECAUSE OF ADULT RECREATIONAL SOCCER GAMES AND THE WASHINGTON STATE HIGH LCHOOL BOYS LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS. WHEN EXITING STARFIRE, IT WAS MY TURN AT THE STOP SIGN, SO I PROCEEDED. AFTER I PROCEEDED, THE BIG BLACK VEHICLE WAITING AT THE STOP SIGN ACROSS FROM ME WITH THE LICENSE PLATE AQG6472 STARTED TO TURN INTO ME. I SLAMMED ON MY BREAKS. HE SLAMMED ON HIS BREAKS AND THEN STARED AT ME. HE ALMOST COLLIDED WITH ME. HE IS A BLONDE-HAIRED SKINNY HIGH SCHOOL AGE BOY, AND THERE WERE 2-3 OTHER HIGH SCHOOL BOYS AS PASSENGERS. ALL PASSENGERS STUCK THEIR MIDDLE FINGERS OUT THE WINDOW AND HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND TAUNTED ME. THE LINE OF CARS ALL WERE BEEPING AT HIM. HE THEN DROVE ON, CONTINUING TO TAUNT ME. HE LEFT STARFIRE AND ENTERED 405 NORTH, AS DID I. I WAS STILL BEHIND HIM. HE BREAKED REALLY HARD AND PURPOSEFULLY TRIED TO GET ME TO CRASH INTO HIS CAR. THEN ONCE WE ENTERED THE HIGHWAY, HE PROCEEDED TO TAUNT MY VEHICLE FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES. HE WEAVED IN BETWEEN CARS TO BE NEXT TO ME, HE GOT BEHIND ME AND FLASHED HIS BRIGHTS ON AND OFF, HE GOT IN FRONT OF ME AND BREAKED REALLY HARD, ETC. I WAS SCARED FOR MY LIFE. I DON'T KNOW HOW, BUT I WAS ABLE TO MERGE INTO AN AREA OF CARS THAT PREVENTED HIM FROM TAUNTING ME ANY FURTHER. I SUSPECT THAT HE AND HIS FRIENDS MIGHT HAVE BEEN INTOXICATED....OR JUST REALLY OBNOXIOUS HIGH SCHOOLERS.
CAR WOULD NOT START. TOWED TO MECHANIC AND FOUND OUT IT WAS CRANK SHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR. AFTER REPAIR WAS MADE I FOUND THE RECALL ON THIS WEBSITE. ACCORDING TO NISSAN SERVICE DEPT. LOOKING IN NISSAN DATABASE THIS REPAIR WAS MADE AT 28K MILES BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR. I HAD TO HAVE THE SAME THING REPAIRED AND NISSAN WILL NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIRS. ACCORDING TO THE SAFETY INFORMATION POSTED ABOUT THIS RECALL THE SENSOR CAN OVERHEAT AND CAUSE LOSS OF POWER TO THE ENGINE AND CUT OFF THE ENGINE COMPLETELY. THIS HAPPENED TO ME A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED, BUT PRIOR TO THAT I WAS OUT ON A COUNTRY ROAD AND IT WAS GETTING DARK. IF IT HAD HAPPENED THEN I MAY HAVE BEEN HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. SINCE THIS PART IS STILL DEFECTIVE OR NOT REDESIGNED IT IS PUTTING OTHER NISSAN OWNER'S AT RISK OF THIS HAPPENING AGAIN. THERE SHOULD BE A SECOND RECALL TO REPLACE THIS PART AGAIN. THIS IS NOT A SIMPLE "SENSOR" THAT CAUSES YOUR CAR TO NOT START, THIS IS LIFE THREATENING! I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE ANY DISTANCE FOR FEAR OF THIS HAPPENING FURTHER FROM HOME AND EITHER CAUSING ME TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT OR HAVING A HUGE TOWING BILL. NISSAN WAS VERY UNCOOPERATIVE IN NUMBER ONE, NOT WILLING TO REIMBURSE ME BECAUSE I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND NOT A DEALER, I'M PSYCHIC LIKE THAT, AND TWO, NOT ISSUING ANOTHER RECALL WHEN THE NISSAN SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT THESE HAVE BEEN REPAIRED MORE THAN ONCE AFTER THE RECALL. I HOPE THE NHTSA DEPARTMENT CAN SEE THE URGENCY OF THIS COMPLAINT TO ISSUE A SECOND RECALL. THANK YOU.
WHILE PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE, NOTICED A SOFT-MATERIAL FLAP HAD DISLODGED FROM UNDERNEATH PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARD. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, NOTICED EXCESSIVE RUST THAT HAS LEFT A HOLE THAT GOES THROUGH AND REACHES THE INTERIOR CARPET. THE SURROUNDING AREA IS VERY SOFT AND BRITTLE, SAME ON DRIVERS SIDE. CONCERNED ABOUT WEAKENING STRUCTURE OVERALL ESPECIALLY SEAT PLACEMENT, AND POSSIBLE INJURIES CAUSED BY NOT HAVING A PROTECTIVE SURFACE FROM THE OUTSIDE ROAD.
THE FRONT FLOOR BOARDS OF MY 2002 ALTIMA ARE RUSTING AND ROTTING AWAY. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS NOT ONLY THE OBVIOUS FLOOR ROTTING FROM BENEATH ME, BUT ALSO THE EXHAUST VAPORS THAT ARE ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THERE IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW THAT HAS CAUSED THE FLOORS TO RUST AND ROT ON VEHICLES IN THE NORTH EAST. BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALL, THE DEALER CANNOT HELP ME. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL SPECIFIC TO THE NORTH EAST AND NEEDS TO BE DONE TO RECTIFY THE FAULTY SPRAYING OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE WHICH WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO COMBAT A NORMAL NORTH EAST WINTER. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW AND IT HAS LOW MILES. I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP WITH MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS FOR THIS VEHICLE INSIDE AND OUT. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO PASS THIS CAR ON TO MY 16 YEAR OLD SON AS A RELIABLE FIRST CAR. I CANNOT DO THAT IN GOOD FAITH KNOWING THE SAFETY ISSUE ALTIMA AND THE NHTSA HAS ALLOWED. MASSACHUSETTS IS A DIFFICULT STATE FOR SAFETY STANDARDS ON OWNERS OF VEHICLES AND I AM FEARFUL THAT IF I HAVE GALVANIZED SHEET METAL WELDED TO MY UNDERCARRIAGE, IT COULD POSSIBLY BE CONSIDERED NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THE STATE'S STANDARDS AND CAUSE ME MORE FINANCIAL BURDEN. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ALTIMA RECTIFY THIS SAFETY ISSUE. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS DO THERE REALLY NEED TO BE IN ORDER FOR THE NHTSA TO HELP? AS OF 4/23/15 I HAVE COUNTED ALMOST 500 COMPLAINTS SPECIFIC TO THE FLOOR BOARDS OF THE 2002 ALTIMA. ADD THOSE TO THE COMPLAINTS TO THE 2003, 2004, 2005, ETC. OF FLOOR BOARDS ROTTING IN THE NORTH EAST AND YOU CAN SEE THESE COMPLAINTS NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED. I WILL ALSO FILE COMPLAINTS WITH MY LOCAL ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE. SAFETY STANDARDS SHOULD BE A PRIORITY OF CAR MAKERS AS WELL AS CAR OWNERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. MY 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS VERY BADLY RUSTED FLOOR BOARDS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES. I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM STARTED BACK IN APPROXIMATELY 2010. I WAS WALKING AWAY FROM THE CAR AN LOOKED BACK AND SAW SOMETHING HANGING BELOW THE CAR ON THE DRIVER SIDE. IT APPEARED TO BE A SURFACE SHEET OF METAL SO I WASN'T TOO WORRIED ABOUT IT AND FIGURED I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAPPENED TO GET A BAD CAR. BUT IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE SINCE. THERE ARE LARGE HOLES THAT GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE FLOORBOARD. I HEARD ABOUT THE NEWS STORY ON NBC AND WANTED TO BE SURE YOU ARE AWARE OF THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM AND HOW MANY PEOPLE CARS ARE AFFECTED. ESPECIALLY THE DRIVER SIDE. THE CAR LOOKS LIKE NEW OTHERWISE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO STATE LINE NISSAN FOR ALL MAINTENANCE. IT WILL TAKE 10 DAYS AND COST $3,232.38. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO SANTA FE BODY INC. WHICH IS AN INDEPENDENT BODY SHOP. THEY HAVE ALREADY DONE SOME OTHER ALTIMA'S AND CHARGE $500 PER SIDE FOR $1000. THEY CUT OUT THE RUSTED AREA AND REPLACE IT WITH SHEET METAL. THIS WILL TAKE 1-2 DAYS. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO FORCE NISSAN INTO A RECALL AS IT IS A DESIGN FLAW AND SAFETY ISSUE. FIRST THERE WAS A RANDOM MISFIRE WHEN I FIRST STARTED IT THAT MORNING. EVENTUALLY GOT IT TO START, ALLOWED IT TO RUN FOR A FEW MINUTES, AND THEN ATTEMPTED TO PULL OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE FIRST ISSUE I HAVE ARE THE OXYGEN SENOR ARE BAD NO SPEED WHEN GETTING PASS 35 FEEL LIKE YOUR DRIVING IN 25. THE MAJOR ISSUE AND IT IS VERY UNSAFE. I BOUGHT THIS 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA ($4500 AT RANDY MARION DEALERSHIP IN HICKORY, NC) FOR MY WIFE ON JANUARY 20TH, 2015. THE CAR HAD 123,000 MILES ON IT. JUST 5 OR 6 DAYS LATER, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ENGINE STARTED MAKING A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND WHEN YOU CRANK IT UP AFTER IT HAD SAT FOR A WHILE. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND IT NEEDED A QUART OF OIL, SO I ADDED A QUART. THE NOISE CAME BACK AFTER 2 DAYS. THIS IMMEDIATELY BECAME A MANDATORY ISSUE TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL AND ADD MORE OIL EVERY 2 TO 3 DAYS. IT IS NOW AUGUST 7TH AND I HAVE TO CHECK AND REFILL THE OIL EVERY DAY! I STARTED MY RESEARCH FOR COMPLAINTS ON THIS VEHICLE AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE ALONG WITH RECALLS FOR REPLACING THE ECM, CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND/OR ENGINE. THE ECM RECALL APPLIED TO THIS CAR, SO I HAD THAT DONE ON JULY 30TH ALONG WITH AN OIL CHANGE. ON TOP OF THAT, I JUST SPENT $1006.62 TO GET THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED YESTERDAY ALONG WITH A QUART OF OIL. GOT THE KNOCKING SOUND AGAIN THIS MORNING. I TOOK IT TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING AND THEY SAID IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. MY WIFE AND I ARE SO UPSET NOW. POWER VALVE SCREWS IN THEIR 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S. THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL ON 2004 AND 2005 ALTIMAS WITH THE 2.5S ENGINE WITH VINS STARTING WITH 1N4AL11. THE RECALL CAMPAIGN ID FOR THIS PROBLEM IS P5202. HOWEVER, THE SAME PROBLEM AFFECTS THE 2003 ALTIMA WITH THE 2.5S ENGINE, BUT NISSAN NORTH AMERICA HAS NOT ADDED THE 2003 YEAR MODEL TO THE RECALL. BOTH THE 2003S AND THE 2004S HAVE THE EXACT SAME ENGINE AND I AM A CASE IN POINT OF SOMEONE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. HOWEVER, NISSAN HAS OF YET NOT STATED WHETHER THEY WILL ADD THE 2003 TO THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. I WANTED TO FIRST LET OTHER 2003 ALTIMA OWNERS WITH THE 2.5S ENGINE BECOME AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. THE ECM RECEIVES SIGNALS SUCH AS CRANKSHAFT POSITION, CAMSHAFT POSITION, ENGINE SPEED, AND ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE. THEN, THE ECM SENDS ON/OFF PULSE DUTY SIGNALS TO THE INTAKE VALVE TIMING CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE DEPENDING ON DRIVING STATUS. THIS MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE SHUT/OPEN TIMING OF THE INTAKE VALVE TO INCREASE ENGINE TORQUE IN LOW/MID SPEED RANGE AND OUTPUT IN HIGH-SPEED RANGE. THE INTAKE VALVE TIMING CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE CHANGES THE OIL AMOUNT AND DIRECTION OF FLOW THROUGH INTAKE VALVE TIMING CONTROL UNIT OR STOPS OIL FLOW. THE LONGER PULSE WIDTH ADVANCES VALVE ANGLE.
