DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A RECALL WAS FOUND ON THE WEBSITE, ALTHOUGH NO PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED WITH THE VEHICLE, THERE IS A CONCERN IT MIGHT HAPPEN. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE RECALL # 03V455000, CONCERNING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. UPDATED 7/11/2006 - THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED AUG 2002. THE RECALL IS FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR. *NM
LAST MONTH, AS MY '03 ALTIMA 2.5S WAS NEARING 65,000 MILES, IT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STALL WHEN STOPPING AT RED LIGHTS. AFTER IT HAPPENED 4 TIMES, I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. 2 DAYS AGO, IT HAPPENED AGAIN IMMEDIATELY AFTER I STARTED THE CAR. IT TOOK SEVERAL TRIES TO RESTART THE CAR. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE ENGINE STALLING. *JB
CAR STALLS OR DOESN'T START. REPLACED FUEL PUMP AND RESET COMPUTER CHIP.*JB
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DURING A RETURN TRIP OF ABOUT 100 MILES DISTANCE. THE FOLLOWING DAY I REPORTED TO NISSAN IN GREENSBORO, NC. THE TECHNICIAN REPORTED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED ALLOWING PARTICLES FROM THE CONVERTER TO ENTER THE ENGINE, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FAIL. DIAGNOSIS, ENGINE/CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE HAD 108000 MILES ON IT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING YEAR FOR INSPECTION OF SAID CATALYTIC CONVERTER FOR A NISSAN RECALL THAT WAS FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. NISSAN KNEW THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE PART, BUT ALLOWED IT TO STAY ON THE VEHICLE AND CAUSE 3500 WORTH OF DAMAGE ONE YEAR LATER. *JB
1) THE CAR WOULD ALWAYS PULL TO THE RIGHT. I TOOK THE CAR IN NUMEROUS TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED. I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS PERFECT. I ALSO TOOK THE CAR IN NUMEROUS TIMES TO HAVE THE TIRES CHECKED TO SEE IF THEY WERE DEFECTIVE OR NEEDED TO BE ROTATED RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND INSPECTED AND NO ISSUES WERE FOUND, NOR WAS THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. 2) THE CAR STILL PULLS TO THE RIGHT. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT RIGHT STRUT HAS GIVEN OUT. THE CAR STILL DRIVES, HOWEVER THE RIDE IS EXTREMELY POOR, ESPECIALLY OVER VERY MINOR IMPERFECTIONS IN THE ROAD. I NEVER TAKE THE CAR OFF ROAD. IT IS USED ON THE FREEWAY BETWEEN CITIES, SO IT HAS SOMEWHAT HIGHER MILES FOR A 2003, BUT ASS THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE STRUT SHOULD NOT HAVE GIVEN OUT THIS EARLY. IT IS SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPLACE. SEVERAL CERTIFIED PROFESSIONALS HAVE TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE BOTH STRUTS AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE. 3) THE CAR IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. I WILL UPDATE THIS COMPLAINT AS EVENTS WARRANT. (THE PARTS WILL BE SAVED). *NM
ON OR ABOUT JAN. 20, 2006 WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLES' CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD CUT OFF. WE TOOK IT TOOK IT TO FONTANA NISSAN FOR REPAIRS. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO US ON JAN. 28, 2006. MAYBE 2 - 3 HRS. AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE, WE WERE DRIVING TO L.A. AREA AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. WE CALLED THE SERVICE MGR. AT FONTANA NISSAN AND HE SAID TO BRING IT BACK AND THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT ON THE FOLLOWING MON. WELL, WE NEVER MADE IT BACK BECAUSE WHILE WE WERE IN ROUTE HOME (FONTANA) I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR WHILE IT WAS SHUTTING OFF ON THE 91 FWY. TO THE 605 INTERCHANGE. AFTER THE CRASH, THE CAR WAS TOWED AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY REPAIRED THE EXTERNAL DAMAGES (BODY WORK) BUT THE INTERNAL WAS NOT FIXED. THEN IN JUNE 2006 WHILE DRIVING HOME, THE CAR CUT OFF AGAIN. FONTANA NISSAN SAID IT WAS THE BATTERY. SO WE PURCHASED A BATTERY. I REFUSED TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE WE FEEL THAT THE NEXT TIME WE MIGHT NOT BE SO LUCKY. IN JAN. 2007 THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE NISSAN ALTIMA FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WE HAD AND CONSEQUENTLY CAUSED THE CRASH. WE WERE BEING REPRESENTED BY A LAW FIRM BUT AS TIME PASSED OUR WARRANTY EXPIRED. I AM VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. WHICH I HAVE NOT DRIVEN SINCE 2006. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SOMEONE'S HELP IN THIS SITUATION. *TR
2003 ALTIMA 2.5S EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE: THE CAR STALLED TWICE DURING OPERATION (ALMOST CAUSED 2 ACCIDENTS) THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED (WE FOUND SOME INFO ON THE INTERNET THAT OTHERS HAD ISSUES WITH THIS AND THE CAR HAS NOT STALLED SINCE. *NM
WHILE DRIVING (AT ANY SPEED), I EXPERIENCED THE ENGINE LOSS OF POWER LIKE IF THE BRAKES WERE SUDDENLY APPLIED FOR MAYBE 2 SECONDS THEN THE CAR PICKED UP SPEED AS IT WAS BEFORE. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE CAR KEEPS EXPERIENCING LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING LIKE WANTING TO STOP RUNNING AND IT IS TAKING LONGER TO START. I'M AFRAID THE CAR WILL STOP RUNNING AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I CALLED NISSAN USA CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO SAFETY RECALLS FOR THIS CONDITION FOR MY VEHICLE, ONLY THE HEAD LAMP FIX. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE PLACE I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THE CODES ASSOCIATED WITH THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT ON WERE P0725 -ENGINE SPEED INPUT CIRCUIT, AND P0335 - CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THEY RESET THE CODES AND TOLD ME TO KEEP DRIVING IT OVER THE WEEKEND AND TO BRING THE CAR BACK ON WED JAN 25TH. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON CAME ON. I GOT HOME AND PARKED THE CAR WAITING FOR WEDNESDAY APPOINTMENT. I THINK THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN ON THIS ALTIMA 2003 VEHICLE THAT COULD WARRANT A SAFETY RECALL. MY VEHICLE WAS BUILT IN SEPT 2002. *JB
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ON 1/11/06 I TOOK MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA TO SOUTH CHICAGO NISSAN FOR A RECALL ON HEADLIGHTS. AT THIS TIME I DECIDED TO PURCHASE THE 60,000 MILE SERVICE PACKAGE WHICH INCLUDED THE DRAINING AND REFILLING OF THE COOLING SYSTEM OR RADIATOR. AFTERWARDS, THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING FLUIDS. I TOOK THE CAR BACK, AND THE SUPERVISOR DISCOVERED THE RADIATOR WAS CRACKED . HE INFORMED ME THAT THEY WEREN'T LIABLE, AND IT WOULD COST ME $749.60 FOR A NEW RADIATOR. BUT, I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT THE RADIATOR HAD TO BE OKAY FOR IT TO BE SERVICED; OTHERWISE, SOMEBODY WOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING. I APPEALED TO THE MANAGER, BUT NOTHING CHANGED. I BELIEVE SOUTH CHICAGO IS LIABLE BUT DON'T WANT TO PAY . PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER AND LET ME KNOW WHAT MY OPTIONS ARE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE $750 TO PAY FOR A RADIATOR . THE NAME OF THE COMPANY IS SOUTH CHICAGO NISSAN, 7410 S. I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5, IN NOV. I HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR STALLING AND NOT BEING ABLE TO START BACK. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, I PAID $175 TO HAVE IT SERVICED. ON JAN. 10, 2007 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN THIS TIME WITH NO WARNINGS AT ALL, I TOOK MY CAR IN TO JUST AN OIL CHANGE PLACE TO HAVE THE CODE PULLED, SHOWING THE CODE FOR THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR, I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALER AND HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN APPT. TO HAVE MY CAR CHECK AGAIN HAS THERE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 2 MONTHS, AND I HAVE READ SO MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM NISSAN OWNERS PLEASE SOMEONE HELP US WE NEED TO HAVE THIS ITEM ADDED TO THE LIST OF RECALLS. NISSAN HAS TO BE AWARE THAT THEY ARE LOSING SO MANY CUSTOMERS. I LOVE MY CAR, BUT I DON'T FEEL ITS FAIR FOR PEOPLE TO HAVE TO PAY OUT SO MUCH MONEY WHEN THE COMPANY IS AWARE THAT THERE IS SUCH A MASSIVE ISSUE. *JB
IN JANUARY 2006 I BEGAN EXPERIENCING STALLING EPISODES WITH MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2003 WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WOULD WITHOUT WARNING STALL. THIS OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE AND TWICE HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO WORK ON I95. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE ISSUE UNTIL FEB 2007 (IN THE MEANTIME I DROVE THIS UNSAFE CAR). IN FEB 2006 A SENSOR WAS REPLACED THAT HAD BEEN CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I PAID CLOSE TO $2,000 IN UNNECESSARY REPAIRS AND WAS CHARGED FOR A RENTAL CAR. I FOUND TODAY THAT NISSAN IS OFFICIALLY REPORTING MY 2006 ISSUE AS A RECALL. WHILE I'M VERY THANKFUL THAT I WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED OR HAD A CAR CRASH THAT RESULTED IN ANYONE ELSE BEING HURT BY THE UNIDENTIFIED RECALL AT THE TIME OF MY EXPERIENCE I WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE COMPENSATION FOR THE FUNDS THAT I PAID AND I'M NOT SURE HOW YOU PLACE A PRICE TAG ON THE CAR STALLING SEVERAL TIMES AND 2 OF THOSE TIMES BEING ON 195. I HAVE RECEIVED TO DATE AFTER MONTHS OF WORKING DIRECTLY WITH NISSAN AND PRIOR TO TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT FINALLY THAT NISSAN IS RECOGNIZING MY ISSUE AS A RECALL AND HOPEFULLY SAVING SEVERAL FUTURE ACCIDENTS AND/OR FATALITIES A SMALL CHECK FOR $550.11. WHICH COMES NOWHERE NEAR COVERING THE MONETARY LOSE I SUFFERED FORGET THE MENTAL ANGUISH OF THE CAR STALLING WITH NO WARNING. *TR
MY FIRST PROBLEM BEGAN AT ABOUT 37000 MILES. I WOULD TRY TO CRANK MY CAR AND IT WOULD NOT CRANK. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 TIMES. THERE HAS CURRENTLY BEEN NO RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. MY SECOND PROBLEM INVOLVES THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. I WAS MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND SUDDENLY MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND BUCK. THE CAR COMING UP FROM BEHIND ME CHANGED LANES AND PASSED, SO LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. MY THIRD PROBLEM IS WITH MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND O2 SENSOR. I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD THAT BOTH OF THESE ARE OUT. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE INTERMITTENTLY OPERATED AT A REDUCED SPEED WHILE DRIVING. EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. AFTERWARDS, THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PROCEED. NO WARNING INDICATORS WERE PRESENT WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, AND THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO ANOTHER DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS THE ALTERNATOR, WHICH WAS REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ALTERNATOR SOLVED THE PROBLEM. *AK UPDATED 02/26/06. *JB
2003 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 SL, ENGINE STALLS-8 TIMES IN LAST TWO MONTHS-TOOK TO DEALER, THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. IT ALWAYS RESTARTS EITHER BY KEY IGNITION OR BY MOTION. SOME BULLETIN BOARDS INDICATE A FAULTY CRANK SENSOR. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TURNING INTO TRAFFIC LANE. *NM
ARM REST IN THE FRONT OF CAR HAS ON, SEVERAL OCCASIONS CUT MY ELBOW. I FEEL THAT IF I WAS DRIVING THE CUT COULD CAUSE A DISTRACTION RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. THE RESULT FROM CUTTING MY ELBOW IS STAINS OF BLOOD ON THE INTERIOR FRONT SEATS OF THE CAR. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE SENSOR TWICE. *AK UPDATED 1/25/2006 - THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 5 MPH. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND KNOCK SENSOR. *NM
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA, I PURCHASED IN 03 WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT WOULD JUST STOP. AT ONE POINT WHILE TURNING IN FRONT OF HEAVY TRAFFIC CAR JUST QUIT, AND EVERY TIME I CRANKED IT WOULD QUIT, WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR ACCIDENT FOR ME AND MY 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I WORK VERY FAR FROM HOME AND , TO GET ON A BUSY FREEWAY AND CAR WOULD JUST QUIT IS NOT SAFE. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION NISSAN IS A GOOD CAR AND RELIABLE, BUT THEY HAVE FAILED ME. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT DUE TO 69,000 MILES IT WOULD HAVE PROBLEMS. I HAVE A FRIEND WITH SAME 03 ALTIMA, AND OVER 100,000 MILES, SHE HAS NO PROBLEMS AND CAN DRIVE OUT OF TOWN. WHEN I AM DRIVING UP TO SPEED THE CAR WOULD START STALLING OUT OF CONTROL, AND THEN EVENTUALLY JUST QUIT ON ME. I CAN NOT EVEN DRIVE MY CAR OUT OF TOWN, DUE TO THE FACT I CAN NOT DRIVE IN TOWN IT MAY NOT CRANK. I NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN I FIRST GOT THE VEHICLE, BUT DON DAVIS NISSAN SAID IT WAS A RECALL ON STARTER. I CAN SAY DON DAVIS NISSAN SERVICE DEPT. WAS VERY HELPFUL, IT DID TAKE THEM A FEW DAYS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY. I MISSED MANY HOURS AT WORK, AND COULD NOT WORK BECAUSE CAR WAS NOT DEPENDABLE. THE SERVICE DEPT. AT DON DAVIS NISSAN ASSISTED ME WELL, I JUST RECEIVED MY CAR BACK AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR INOP. THEY HAVE A RECALL ON THE 2002 BUT NOT THE 2003, GOOD THING I BOUGHT EXTRA WARRANTY, BUT I FEEL THIS IS A PROBLEM AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PAID FOR THRU MY WARRANTY, I THINK NISSAN SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF IT. I GUESS IT'S JUST THE LOOK OF THE VEHICLE, I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER ALTIMA AGAIN. *JB
MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED 85 MILES, BACK TO THE NISSAN DEALER IN DEVON, PA. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE CAR, IT FINALLY STARTED, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO DRIVE IT, IT HAD NO POWER WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. ALSO, THE CAR JUMPED ALL AROUND, SO IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE IT. I WAS AWAY ON VACATION IN NJ, SO I WASN'T EVEN NEAR MY HOME. DEALER DETERMINED IT WAS THE 'CRANK SENSOR', AND REPLACED IT, BUT CHARGED ME $180. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM! *NM
CAR STALLED, STOPPED WORKING AND THEN HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING. ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. ROUGH STARTING UNTIL FIXED, WITH STALLING. TURNED OUT TO BE CRANKCASE SENSOR. THE CAR INVOLVED IS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA, AND THIS WAS A RECALL ITEM ON THE 2002 ALTIMA.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES LOCKED IN COLD WEATHER. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED IT COULD HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED AT SPEEDS UNDER 40 MPH. *AK
1) THE POWER VALVE SCREWS LOCATED IN THE ENGINE INTAKE VALVE ON MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S HAVE STARTED TO COME LOOSE, CAUSING POWER LOSS IN THE ENGINE. ONE OF THE POWER VALVE SCREWS ACTUALLY CAME LOOSE AND WAS SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE, DAMAGING THE CYLINDERS, THUS RUINING THE ENGINE. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, O2 SENSOR AND OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HAVE BEEN DAMAGED ALSO. THIS HAS RESULTED IN SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF DAMAGE, ANYWHERE BETWEEN $1500 TO $7500+ WORTH OF DAMAGE. 2) THE FAILURE IS THAT THESE POWER VALVE SCREWS HAVE COME LOOSE AND STARTED BEING SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE CAUSING HIGH DOLLAR VALUE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. MORE IMPORTANT IS THAT THE LOSS OF POWER AND THE DESTRUCTION OF THE ENGINE DURING DRIVING ALMOST CAUSED A FATAL CRASH THAT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN MY DEATH AND THE DEATH OF OTHER INDIVIDUALS ON THE HIGHWAY. ADDITIONALLY, EXHAUST IS ESCAPING THE ENGINE AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE POWER VALVE SCREW, AFTER BEING SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSING DAMAGE, WENT INTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND CRACKED IT. EXHAUST FUMES WERE LEAKING FROM THE CRACK IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD POLLUTING THE ENVIRONMENT AND CAUSING ME PERSONAL DAMAGE FROM THE FUMES AND OTHER COMPLICATIONS. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA IS ALREADY AWARE OF THIS EXACT ISSUE IN THEIR 2004 AND 2005 NISSAN ALTIMAS WITH THE SAME ENGINE AS MINE, WHICH IS THE 2.5S ENGINE. THEY ARE IN THE MIDST OF CONDUCTING A SERVICE RECALL RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE IN MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. 3) NISSAN HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY. CAR HAD BEEN IDLING VERY ROUGH AND ENGINE VIBRATION AS WELL AS INTERMITTENT POWER LOSS 24 HOURS PRIOR TO ISSUE. AT TIME OF FAILURE, THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON BUSY HIGHWAY MOUNTAIN PASS. I WAS ALMOST KILLED AS CAR DRIFTED WITH NO CONTROL INTO OTHER TRAFFIC. CAR WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. TOOK CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE MOTOR STARTED SHAKING ON DRIVE BACK TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER FOUND THAT THERE WAS A SCREW LOOSE. THEY FOUND THE SCREW MISSING HAD COME FROM THE POWER VALVE INTAKE IN THE POWER VALVE. THEY HAD TO THE REMOVE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO GET THE SCREW OUT, THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE MANIFOLD INTAKE/VALVE AND CYLINDER #4/ 02 SENSOR/ THE GASKET EXHAUST/GASKET ADAPTER, AND THE GASKET MANIFOLD AS THE SCREW HAD SHOT TROUGH THE ENGINE DESTROYING MOST OF IT. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT ONLY ON SOME 2004 AND 2005 MODELS, NOT MY 2003. THIS PROBLEM IS DOCUMENTED IN OTHER 2002 AND 2003 MODELS ON THIS ODI WEBSITE AND ON INTERNET FORUMS AS PER MY RESEARCH. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS IN THE 2002 AND 2003 MODELS AS I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO WORK WITH THEM IN A REASONABLE MANNER. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY FATAL ISSUE AS NOTED IN DIFFERENT INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH ENGINES CATCHING ON FIRE OR CAR STALLING AND LOCKING UP IN TRAFFIC. I PURCHASED A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA ON 5/13/2005. AFTER THE PURCHASE IT WAS SENT FOR DETAILING WHILE I FINISHED THE FINANCE PAPERWORK. WHEN I RETURNED HOME (ABOUT 11PM) I SHOWED MY WIFE THE CAR. SHE NOTICED A DENT ON THE DASHBOARD COVERING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. THIS DENT WAS NOT PRESENT AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. I IMMEDIATELY INFORMED THE PERSON WHO SOLD ME THE CAR AND HE SAID THAT WHEN WE BROUGHT IT IN ON MONDAY IT WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. HOWEVER IT IS NOW 18 DAYS SINCE PURCHASE AND WE ARE STILL ARGUING WITH THEM TO TAKE CARE OF IT, THEIR REASON BEING THAT BECAUSE IT WAS A USED VEHICLE IT WAS SOLD AS IS AND I DID NOT INFORM THEM OF THE DENT UNTIL AFTER I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT. THAT IS NOT MY MAIN CONCERN. I WISH TO KNOW IF THIS "DENT" CAN CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO MALFUNCTION. I WAS TOLD BY A NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT TECHNICIAN THAT THIS DENTED PANEL IS AN ENTIRE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY AND NOT A SEPARATE PART. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU COULD INVESTIGATE WHETHER THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN (MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT) OR IF IT IS SIMPLY A DENT. IF YOU FIND THAT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE AIRBAG "COULD" FAIL AS A RESULT OF THIS DENT, DOES THE DEALER HAVE TO REPLACE THE PART? THE CAR STILL HAS SOME OF THE ORIGINAL FACTORY WARRANTY AND I ALSO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. SINCE WE ARE WITHOUT THIS CAR AT THE MOMENT (FOR ANOTHER REASON ENTIRELY) AND ARGUING WITH THE DEALER TIME IS AN ISSUE. IF YOU COULD GET BACK TO ME ASAP, I (AND MY WIFE) WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 S. THE GAS DOOR IS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. I GO GAS ONE DAY A MONTH AGO AND THE DOOR OPENED PERFECTLY. WHEN I WENT TO CLOSE IT, IT WOULDN'T SHUT. IT LOOKS LIKE THE HING ISN'T LINED UP CORRECTLY. I HAD TO FORCE IT SHUT AND IT GETS WORSE EACH TIME I USE THE DOOR.
2003 NISSAN ALTIMA ENGINE CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE.*MR WHILE PASSING A VEHICLE ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE'S AIR FLOW METER WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *NM
AFTER APPROXIMATELY 49,000 PLUS MILES ON MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA, 3.5 SE, I NOTICED OOLANT LEAKING FROM THE RADIATOR. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I PURCHASE THE CAR FROM AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE RADIATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT IS NOT REPAIRABLE. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE PERSONNEL TOLD ME THAT THE NEW TYPE OF RADIATORS INSTALLED ON THESE CAR MODELS HAVE PLASTIC TOPS AND ONCE RUPTURED OR DAMAGED, CANNOT BE REPAIRED. I WAS JUST WONDERING HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN WITH MY VEHICLE THAT HAS 49,000 PLUS MILES IN IT. I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW. I WAS TOLD THE WARRANTY FOR THE RADIATOR EXPIRED AFTER 36,000 MILES. I HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED AS SUGGESTED BY THE NISSAN SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AND HAD TO PAY A HEFTY PRICE FOR A NEW ONE PLUS LABOR. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. HOWEVER, MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
CRANK SENSOR FAILED, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SEIZE WHILE DRIVING. OWNER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, BUT HAS NOT RECEIVED ANY ASSISTANCE. *AK ENGINE SHUT OFF AND SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR MALFUNCTION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR. *BF *NM
WE PURCHASED A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA IN JANUARY OF 2005. AFTER HAVING THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS THE CAR BEGIN STALLING WHILE DRIVING AND IT WOULD HAPPEN PERIODICALLY. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR, THIS HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES AND WITH MUCH BOLDNESS. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK AND DEMANDED THAT THE PROBLEM BE FOUND. BECAUSE SOMEONE ALMOST HIT US AND MY CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO NEGLECT OF NISSAN/DATSUN. THEY INITIALLY TRIED TO GIVE US THE RUN AROUND AND STATED THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS, THEN AFTER THE TECH, DROVE THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES THE CAR STALLED AND THEY DETECTED THAT IT WAS A SENSOR AND WE HAD TO PAY FOR THIS. I KNOW THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS, BECAUSE THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING MORE THAN REPORTED, I JUST FOUND THIS SITE AND I KNOW THAT IT WOULD BE A DISSERVICE TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT MIGHT HAVE THIS DEFECT AND HAVE NOT HAD SYMPTOMS YET OF THIS POSSIBLY FATAL DEFECT. 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA EXHAUST LEAK POSITIVE FOR CARBON D IN MY BLOOD MANY PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON WITH THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNING MY CAR IT STARTED WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO SCREW A GAS CAP ON TO AFTER YEARS OF ATTEMPTS TRYING TO CONVINCE THEM IT CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY LYMPH NODES IN MY LUNGS WHEN IT WAS TOO LATE AND THEY SAW VISIBLE SIGNS INSIDE MY CAR LIKE BLACK SOOT AND A STRONG SMELL THEY LAUGHED AND SAID HEY LADY YOU HAVE A LEAK THEY REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THE O2 SENSOR WITHIN 6-8 MONTHS I STARTED TO HAVE SYMPTOMS AGAIN NAUSEA,HEADACHES, HEAVY LEGS,WHEEZING & INABILITY TO CONCENTRATE. THEN I KNEW ONCE THE SMELL STARTED THE DAMAGE WAS DONE I DID NOT HAVE THE MENTAL STRENGTH TO FIGHT WITH THEM ABOUT IT ANYMORE SO I TRADED IT IN THIS WEEK I KEPT ALL THE REPORTS FROM THE DEALER WHEN I TOOK IT IN BUT OF COURSE THEY DID NOT TYPE IN ALL THAT I HAD CONCERNS ABOUT. *JB
