TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TAKING HER VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE MECHANIC ADVISED HER THAT THERE WAS A RECALL 03V084000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: EXHAUST SYSTEM: MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE). ONCE THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED, THEY NOTIFIED THE CONTACT AND ADVISED HER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE DUE TO METAL BEING JAMMED IN THE ENGINE. SINCE THE METAL WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PRIOR TO THE MECHANIC ADVISING HER OF THE PROBLEM, SHE HAD NEVER BEEN INFORMED OF THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE ENGINE COMPONENTS BUT NOT FOR THE METAL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
2003 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 LITRE ENGINE. BLOWING OIL OUT TAILPIPE WITH 101,000. MANY BLOGS REPORT SAME PROBLEM WITH SAME MAKE AND MODEL. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, SHE DISCOVERED THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL IN A SHORT TIME. THE CONSUMER FOUND A RECALL REGARDING THE ENGINE. HOWEVER, THE RECALL HAS SINCE CLOSED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, ENGINE AND THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HAS DOCUMENTATION THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED UNDER THE RECALL IN 2003. HOWEVER, SHE DID NOT PURCHASE THE VEHICLE UNTIL 2010, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS SINCE RESURFACED. CAMPAIGN ID 03V455000 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLANT CAMPAIGN ID 03V084000 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLANT EXHAUST SYSTEM CAMPAIGN ID 06V242000 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLANT I HAVE ATTEMPT TO CONTACT NISSAN NORTH AMERICA ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS REGARDING THE ABOVE MENTIONED RECALLS. AFTER CAR FAILURE, AND MONEY SPENT ON TRYING TO CORRECT THESE ISSUES, NISSAN HAS NOT BEEN RESPONSIVE TO MY NUMEROUS REQUEST. I AM CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THESE RECALLS CAME TO MY ATTENTION AFTER I LEARNED FROM A NISSAN TECHNICIAN, AND AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE REPAIRED. PROBLEMS RELEVANT TO THE RECALLS, I AM STILL EXPERIENCING. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN AT LOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THOSE LISTED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V242000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THE VEHICLE. A LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE CRANK SENSOR BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PRE-CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED; THERE WAS DEBRIS IN THE ENGINE THAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FAIL WHICH OVERHEATED THE CATALYTIC SUBSTRATE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, A LOUD TICKING NOISE BEGAN TO COME FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT LOOKED UNDER THE ENGINE AND NOTICED THAT THE OIL RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY, BUT THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF LEAKAGE. OIL WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE REMAINED IN THE POSSESSION OF THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT RESPOND. AFTER APPROXIMATELY TWENTY-SEVEN ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE STARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA WHICH ENGINE TURNS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH NO WARNING. I HAD MY CAR CHECKED OUT AND FOUND OUT IT WAS THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. I SPOKE WITH A FRIEND WHO WORKS ON CARS AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE ORIGINAL CRANKSHAFT SENSOR HAD TO BE UPDATED TO STOP OIL FROM GETTING ON IT. WHEN I CALLED NISSAN THEY REFUSED TO HELP ME AND I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS MYSELF. THIS CAR STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING AND NISSAN DOESN'T WANT TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE PRODUCE A FAULTY CAR THAT CAN CAUSE A PERSON TO HAVE A DEADLY CRASH. *TR
UPON INSPECTION OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE, A HOLE ABOUT THE SIZE OF A SOFTBALL HAD RUSTED THROUGH THE FLOORPAN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE IS KEPT IN A GARAGE AND IS REGULARLY CLEANED AND WAXED. THE CORROSION PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE A SYSTEMIC ISSUE WITH ALTIMAS BASED ON NHTSA COMPLAINTS AND INTERNET SEARCHES. NISSAN CHOOSES TO IGNORE THE ISSUE WHICH COULD PRESENT A SAFETY ISSUE IF EXHAUST FUMES GET INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT
2003 NISSAN ALTIMA FAILED INSPECTION STICKER DUE TO RUSTED OUT FLOORBOARDS BOTH ON THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT. HAD TO HAVE NEW FLOORBOARDS WELDED IN. I RESIDE IN MAINE. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER (03V084000- ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS; HOWEVER, SHE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 158,300. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 158,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE CONTAINED NO OIL. THE OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED THREE MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOLD HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000.
FLOOR BOARD PANELS ON 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA ON PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE RUSTING THROUGH FROM INSIDE OUT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, CAR HAS 74,000 MILES ON IT CAR WAS IN FOR SERVICE WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION. UPDATED 01/28/11 *BF PICTURES RECEIVED. UPDATED 02/03/11 *TR
THE BODY UNDERNEATH THE PASSENGER FLOORBOARD HAS PREMATURELY RUSTED THROUGH (7"X3" HOLE) DUE TO AN OBVIOUS IMPROPERLY SEALED HOLE IN THE STRUCTURE. SAME HOLE ON DRIVER'S SIDE WAS SEALED AND BODY APPEARS TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION WITH NO RUST. DEALER QUOTE TO REPAIR IS $1100, OR $3000 TO REPLACE ENTIRE FLOORBOARD. DEALER STATED THEY HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OF SAME ISSUE IN LAST MONTH ON ONE OR BOTH SIDES OF CAR. FILED COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN, BUT THEY WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE MANUFACTURING ISSUE OR OFFER ANY COMPENSATION FOR REPAIR. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS IN NHTSA DATABASE ECHO SAME ISSUES. PASSENGER SIDE DRAIN PLUG ON THE FLOOR WAS NOT SEALED FROM FACTORY ON 02-04 NISSAN ALTIMA MODELS, THE FLOOR RUSTS OUT VERY PREMATURELY LEAVING A LARGE HOLE FOR A FOOT TO GO THROUGH, OR WORSE EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE CAR DOING A SEARCH ONLINE THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WHICH NISSAN DOESN'T NOT WANT TO ADDRESS AND DOES NOT COVER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING, THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED 2,000 MILES PRIOR TO THE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GET ANOTHER OIL CHANGE BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED; THE MECHANICS STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS MOST LIKELY OIL CONSUMPTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000.
I HAD JUST BOUGHT MY VEHICLE IN MARCH 2010 FOR $4200. A FEW WEEKS AFTER I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING THROUGH OIL EVERY FEW DAYS. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE STATED IT NEEDED A TUNE UP. A FEW DAYS AFTER THE TUNE UP I NOTICED IT STARTED TO RUN ROUGH ON THE HIGHWAY ON MY WAY TO WORK. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN, NO POWER STEERING. I HAD TO GLIDE TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE HOPING AND PRAYING I WOULD MAKE IT AND NOT GET HIT. SO I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE MECHANIC WHO THEN TOLD ME THAT THE MOTOR WAS BLOWN. I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT SEEING AS I HAD JUST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE 6 MONTHS EARLIER. SO I THEN PARKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY UNTIL I HAD THE MONEY TO REPLACE IT($2000). ONCE I WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE 2 MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AGAIN. I TAKE IT BACK INTO THE MECHANIC AND HE TELLS ME ITS THE RADIATOR. I REPLACE THE RADIATOR ($200). A FEW WEEKS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. THE MECHANIC TELLS ME ITS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THAT HE'S DONE ATLEAST THREE NISSANS IN THE PAST MONTH WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT THERE IS A RECALL AND TO CONTACT NISSAN. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT IF I TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE LIKE THAT IT WOULD BLOW THE MOTOR AGAIN BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT CAUSED IT TO BLOW INITIALLY. AFTER TAKING IT TO A NISSAN DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOT "OPEN" RECALL ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER JUST AN ECM RESET AND THE HALOGEN LIGHT RECALL. THEY DID TELL ME THE CATALYTIC GONE DUE TO A CYLINDER 2 MISFIRE BUT THAT WAS NOT COVERED BY THEM. I THEN CALLED NISSAN DIRECTLY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL PREVIOUS FOR THE ENGINE AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER BUT IT WAS NOT AN OPEN RECALL AND THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEND ME THAT INFORMATION. IF I WANTED THAT INFORMATION I WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH CAR FAX. THIS WAS FROM THEIR UPPER MANAGEMENT. *TR
SCREW CAME OFF OF MANIFOLD INTAKE AND WENT INTO PISTON CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FAIL IN THE MIDDLE OF FOUR RAILROAD TRACKS. SPOKE WITH DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN HEADQUARTER THEY SAID THE 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT BUT 2002 2004 2005 CERTAIN MODELS DID BUT BUY OUR VIN # THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM. I MYSELF TOOK THE MANIFOLD OFF AND FOUND THE SCREW HAD FELL OFF THE BUTTERFLY AND WENT IN TO THE ENGINE PISTON I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO TAKE A MAGNET AND FISH OUT THE SCREW. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR A FEW MILES THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON I HAVE NOT A CLUE WHAT THAT IS ABOUT. WE DONE FELL SAFE DRIVING THE 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA ANYMORE,THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR LOOKING INTO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
IN OCTOBER 2010 THE AIR BAG LIGHT FLASHING, RESULT: RETRIEVED CODE B1129-RH SIDE AIR BAG MODULE OPEN CIRCUIT, NOT DETECTED AT THE TIME, CODE WAS IN PAST TENSE. MAY HAVE INTERMITTENT FAULT. CLEARED CODE AND LIGHT STAYED OFF AT THE TIME. IN JULY 2011 THE AIR BAG WAS FLASHING AGAIN RETRIEVED CODE B1129-RH AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAID SEAT BACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND/OR NEEDS A SENSOR UNIT . I FIND THIS A MANUFACTURE ISSUE AND RESPONSIBILITY, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT OR ABUSED. THE AIR BAG IS NOT A TIRE TO GO BAD, IF ONE WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND REPLACED IT AT A PRIVATE PLACE THAT IS ANOTHER STORY! IT IS NOT FAIR FOR THE SAME CODE (B1129-RH) ONCE THEY JUST TURNED OFF AND ONCE THEY SAY YOU NEED TO REPLACE IT. *KB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT AND PASSENGER SIDE FRAME WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
BRAKES, PADS, ROTORS REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES, CAR STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES HORRIBLY WHEN BRAKING ,BRAKES SQUEAL HORRIBLY WITH BRAKING (METALLIC) . ROTORS VERY CHEAP, HAVE TO BE REPLACED EVERY 20,000 MILES FOR $400.00. HAD COMPLETE REAR BRAKES, ROTORS DONE LAST AT 90000,THEN AT 121,000, METALLIC NOISE AGAIN AT 125,000-SERVICED, 130,000 SQUEAK AGAIN, 200 MILES LATER BRAKES BAD AGAIN, ROTOR TURNED, NOW AT 130,000 BRAKES SQUEAKING AGAIN, CAR VIBRATES WITH BRAKING AGAIN AND CARS BRAKES DON'T RESPOND AS WELL. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE DANGEROUS BRAKES, ROTORS, ETC .I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR NEED NEW ROTORS EVERY BRAKE JOB!!!!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK ABNORMALLY AND THEN STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AS IT OPERATED AS NORMAL.THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE OXYGEN, CRANK SHAFT AND CAM SHAFT SENSORS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE SENSORS WERE REPLACED YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER TOLD THE CONTACT THEY COULD NOT PERFORM THE RECALL REMEDY ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V242000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,602.
CAR WAS SHAKING WHILE DRIVING. I HAD THE CAM SENSORS REPLACED SEVERAL DAYS AGO. I HAVE RESEARCHED BRIEFLY ONLINE AND FOUND OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. OTHER MODELS ON THE VEHICLE HAVE BEEN COVERED ON A RECALL; HOWEVER, NISSAN ALTIMA 2003 2.5S APPARENTLY IS NOT RECALLED IN THIS AREA. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS ISSUE. *TR
2003 NISSAN ALTIMA SEVERE ENGINE PROBLEMS WITH STALLING WHILE DRIVING! DRIVER SUSTAINED BROKEN BACK, HEAD AND EYE TRAUMA, BROKEN RIB, DISLOCATED SHOULDER JOINT, MULTIPLE CUTS REQUIRING STITCHES, GLASS EMBEDDED INTO SKIN. DRIVER SPENT SEVERAL DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL AND WAS DISCHARGED UNDER CONTINUOUS FAMILY CARE. CAR WAS TOTALED. *TR
