I HAVE OWNED MY NISSAN SINCE 8/2004 PURCHASED IT NEW FROM NISSAN 104TH FEDERAL HEIGHTS, CO. RECENTLY I FOUND OUT THE MY PASSENGER FLOORBOARD HAD RUSTED OUT. NISSAN TOLD ME THAT IT WAS ONLY WARRANTED FOR 4 YEARS AFTER THAT IT WAS MY PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO A COLLISION SHOP AND THEY SAID ON THIS YEAR CAR IT NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. I HAD IT REPAIRED FOR $500. THEN I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE OTHER CARS FOR NISSAN ALTIMA'S FROM 2004 ALSO THAT HAD RUSTED THRU THE INTERNET. I WOULD LIKE THE MONEY BACK DUE TO NEGLIGENCE OF NISSAN. ALSO THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN REPAIRED BY NISSAN MOST OF THE TIME. WHAT WERE THE MECHANICS LOOKING AT ONLY TO SPOT THIS ISSUE WHEN THE CAR IS 9 YEARS OLD. *TR
THE CAR STARTED HESITATING WHILE DRIVING AND THE HEAD GASKET WAS BLOWN DUE TO THE PRE CAT SYSTEM CLOGGING UP THIS IS A VERY HIGH COST REPAIR FOR THIS VEHICLE AND ALL THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE REPAIRED AT NISSAN COST DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF VEHICLES THIS HAS HAPPENED TO AND THERE BEING CLASS ACTION LAW SUITES OVER IT. THIS IS THEIR FAULT NOT MINE WHY SHOULD I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS COST WHEN IT HAS HAPPENED TO NUMEROUS 05 ALTIMA. THEY SHOULD MAN UP AND FIX THIS ISSUE. I HAVE OWNED 3 OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES WITH NO PROBLEMS BESIDES MAINTENANCE, BUT THIS IS THE LAST NISSAN I WILL EVER OWN, I WAS GOING TO GET AN INFINITY BUT SINCE NISSAN MAKES THOSE I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING ONE OF THOSE EITHER AND WILL RESEARCH BEFORE I PURCHASE ANY VEHICLE TO MAKE SURE NISSAN DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE VEHICLE NAME. I'M DONE WITH NISSAN AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO PURCHASE ONE THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR NAME ANYMORE. ALSO THE VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICES AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. *TR
MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA BOUGHT USED DIDN'T EVEN HAVE IT FOR SIX MONTHS TRANSMISSION FAILED. WHEN EVER IT IS DRIVEN FOR 15 OR SO MINUTES IT WONT SHIFT GEARS AND WHEN COMING TO A STOP IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE SLAMMED INTO ME FROM BEHIND. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2005 ALTIMA 2.5S. I HAD THE SEVERE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD RUST PROBLEM. THE RUST IS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR MAT. A BIG HOLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I CALLED THE DEALER BROUGHT THE CAR FOR INSPECTION AND THEY SEND ME TO NISSAN NORTH AMERICA (800) NISSAN-1 OR 800-647-7261). THEY'VE REFERRED ME TO WITH NISSAN REGIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS REGARDING THE RUSTED OUT FLOORBOARDS. I APPRECIATED THEIR "SURPRISE" AND "NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE". WHEN I TOLD HIM IT HOW BAD THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR RUST PROBLEM SHE SAID THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING RIGHT NOW WITH THAT BECAUSE IT'S NORMAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. THEY WILL NOT HELP ON THE REPAIR AND SEND ME TO BODY SHOP. THE REPLACEMENT/FIX OF HOLD FLOORBOARD WILL COST $1700 INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR. I LOOKED MY COMPANY 1998 MAZDA TRUCK, IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN A LOT IN MUDDY ROADS AND SNOW, AND NO RUST AT ALL UNDER THE FLOORBOARD. I FOUND THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THE 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMA FLOORBOARD RUST PROBLEM ON GOOGLE, AND NISSAN REFUSED TO TAKE A RECALL FOR THIS MOST COMPLAINT PROBLEM. THIS IS A DESIGN/MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT NISSAN REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE. THEY NEVER MENTIONED THE FLOORBOARD RUST PROBLEM AT ALL TO ME UNTIL I FOUND IT. I DO BELIEVE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM FOR A CAR DRIVEN ON THE ROAD, ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY,AND THE FLOORBOARD CAN FALL ANYTIME. I REALLY HOPE THIS CAN GET AN ATTENTION FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS 02-06 NISSAN ALTIMA AS WELL. GET THE CAR REPAIRED SOON TO REDUCE THE POTENTIAL FATALITY INCIDENT. MY TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND SOMETIMES CLUNKING NOISE WHEN IT SHIFTS AT LOW SPEED.
AFTER GOING TO MY DESTINATION FOR 35 MIN STOPPING A GAS PUMP AFTER GETTING BACK IN THE CAR IN WOULDN'T CRANK ONLY AFTER 2 HOURS. AFTER GETTING BACK ON THE HIGHWAY WITHIN 5 MILES IN STOPPED ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 55. SAT ON SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR 2 MORE HOURS BEFORE IT STARTED AGAIN. *TR
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH 121,000 MILES ON IT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, THIS CAR HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND GARAGED MOST OF ITS LIFE. I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND OUT LAST WEEK, THAT WHILE A OIL CHANGE WAS BEING DONE, THAT BOTH THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PANS ARE RUSTED OUT. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND NISSAN IS NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I HAVE HAD MOST OF THE MAINTENANCE OF THIS VEHICLE DONE AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. NEVER ONCE DID THEY POINT OUT THIS PROBLEM, WHICH HAS BEEN EVIDENT FOR MANY YEARS BASED ON THE DAMAGE. I COULD HAVE MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO FIX THIS SOONER. IT IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM IN MY OPINION. I DO NOT FEEL IT IS SAFE FOR MY FAMILY MEMBERS TO DRIVE DUE TO FUMES AND THE INSTABILITY OF THE FLOOR. I AM IN DISBELIEF NISSAN HAS NOT BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I DO HAVE PICTURES IF ANYONE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN SEEING THEM. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT 25 MPH AND THE CAR LOST ALL SPEED AS IF THE BRAKES WERE IMPLIED AND ALMOST CAUSED A THREE CAR PILE UP. NOW THE CAR IS STUCK IN 5TH GEAR. I AM REALLY WORRIED BECAUSE MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR AT THE TIME. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ONLINE AND THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS WAITING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT TO TURN GREEN AND WHEN I STARTED GOING AND MY CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE SO I THOUGHT SOMEBODY HIT ME. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR,BUT NO HIT TO MY CAR. I THOUGHT THAT WAS WEIRD BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. IT DIDN'T HAPPENED AGAIN UNTIL A FEW MONTHS LATER. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN I START DRIVING I HEAR A BOOM SOUND AND I FEEL THAT MY ENGINE IS GOING TO BREAK DOWN. IT FEELS LIKE MY GEARS ARE NOT CONNECTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND OR IF THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT CONNECTING WITH MY ENGINE. IF I START DRIVING AND THEN I SPEED UP, MY CAR MAKES THE BOOM NOISE. THE SAME HAPPENS WHEN I'M COMING DOWN THE ROAD AT A REGULAR SPEED AND I SLOW DOWN BECAUSE TRAFFIC IS SLOWING, BUT THEN WE CONTINUE AT THE REGULAR SPEED MY CAR MAKES THE BOOM NOISE LIKE THE GEARS DIDN'T CONNECT. MY CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME TO CHECK WITH NISSAN FOR ANY RECALLS BECAUSE MY CAR GAVE HIM A MOTOR CODE P0726 WHICH HAS TO DUE WITH THE MOTOR'S CRANKSHAFT. HE TOLD ME THAT MY ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ARE NOT CONNECTING. I SEARCH TO SEE IF ANYBODY ELSE HAD THAT PROBLEM AND IT HAS BEEN PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUE FOR THIS PROBLEM. HOPEFULLY THERE'S A RECALL SOON TO PREVENT ANY ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START ONCE THE KEY WAS TURNED IN THE IGNITION. THE KEY NEEDED TO BE TURNED AT LEAST TEN TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD START. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE STALLED BEFORE RESUMING NORMAL ACCELERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED DAILY. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT AND ENGINE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
ENGINE CUT OFF ALL BY ITSELF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. MECHANIC SAID THE PROBLEM WAS WITH MY CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THOSE SAME PARTS TWO YEARS AGO AS WELL. *TR
CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS GONE BAD ON LOW MILEAGE, SINGLE OWNER, WELL MAINTAINED CAR. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH 2002-2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHAT MAKES THE PROBLEM WORSE IS THAT THE CONVERTER DISINTEGRATES AND GETS SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE AND STALLING. SPOKE TO NISSAN CUSTOMER CARE AND ESCALATED TO EXECUTIVE RESPONSE TEAM AT NISSAN, AND THEY ARE UNWILLING TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR A FAULTY PART FOR WHICH THEY HAD ISSUED 3 TSBS BUT REFUSE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART AND SUBSEQUENT DAMAGE TO ENGINE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL OR AT LEAST A WARRANTY EXTENSION. *TR
IF THE INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL FROM THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS SO BRIEF THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) LOGIC DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO DIAGNOSE THE CONDITION, THE ENGINE MAY STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT A LOW SPEED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE 5-7 TIMES WHERE THE CAR WOULDN'T START OR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ( DECREASING IN SPEED). *TR
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARD IS RUSTING OUT BADLY WITH A BIG HOLE IN THE FLOOR.I AM WORRIED THAT EITHER SOMEONE'S FEET WILL FALL THROUGH FLOOR OR THERE COULD BE A CASE OF CARBON MONOXIDE POISON. I CONTACTED NISSAN HEADQUARTERS AND MASTRIA NISSAN DEALER ON 5-30-14 AND WAS TOLD," THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS, SO THEY WILL NOT FIX THIS ISSUE".THE DEALER DID SAY," THEY HAVE HEARD ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON MANY ALTIMAS AND HAVE FIXED IT IN THE PAST FOR A COST OF $755.00 PER FLOOR PANEL".I TOLD THEM," IF YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE,WHY SHOULD I PAY TO FIX IT." *TR
AFTER HEARING A SUSPICIOUS NOISE ON THE DRIVER'S FLOOR, I CHECKED UNDERNEATH. THE DRIVER'S SIDE APPEARED TO BE OK, BUT PUSHING DOWN ON THE CARPETING YOU CAN FEEL THE DAMAGED METAL. UNDERSIDE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE THERE IS A 24" LONG BADLY RUSTED THROUGH AREA THAT WILL HAVE TO BE REPAIRED. I'M GUESSING THE NOISE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE IS FROM RUSTED FLOORING AS WELL. THIS CAR HAS BEEN OWNED SINCE NEW, WELL-MAINTAINED AND GARAGED NIGHTLY. BUT IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 9 WINTERS IN THE SNOW BELT. STILL, THE REST OF THE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO RUST OTHER THAN IN THOSE TWO FREQUENTLY COMPLAINED OF AREAS. *TR
I CONTACTED NISSAN USA TO TRY AND GET THEM TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION FOR THE FLOOR BOARDS ROTTING AWAY IN MY CAR. DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT I AM NOT ALONE IN MY PROBLEM WITH THE FLOOR BOARDS. NUMEROUS PEOPLE ONLINE WITH 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMA HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WHERE THERE IS A SNOW COVERED WINTER. THE WOMEN THAT ANSWERED THE PHONE FROM NISSAN USA WAS VERY POLITE TOOK MY INFORMATION AND LOOKED INTO WHAT I WOULD HAVE TO DO NEXT TO START THINGS OFF. SHE TOLD ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY MY LOCAL DEALER. SO I MADE THE APPOINTMENT. A FEW DAYS LATER HAD MY ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS WHICH IS ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS PLUS TAX. I CALLED NISSAN USA BACK AND SHE POLITELY FILLED IN THE DETAILS OF THE REPAIR AND INSTRUCTED ME I WILL BE GETTING A CALL FROM A REGIONAL SPECIALIST. A FEW DAYS LATER GET A CALL FROM SAID SPECIALIST ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THEY WILL NOT HELP ME BECAUSE MY CAR NO LONGER HAS WARRANTY COVERAGE. I EXPLAINED THAT I WANT TO HAVE THIS INVESTIGATED AS THE FLOOR BOARDS OF A CAR THAT IS BUILT IN 2005 NO MATTER WHAT SHOULD NOT RESEMBLE A 1960 CHEVY FLOOR BOARDS. AGAIN WAS JUST TOLD THERE IS NOTHING NISSAN IS ABLE TO DO I HAVE NO WARRANTY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE FLOOR BOARDS THAT ARE ROTTING AWAY ARE DIRECTLY WHERE YOU FEET ARE IN THE FRONT SEATS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AS IT IS AN ISSUE FOR I AM SURE THOUSANDS OF NISSAN OWNERS. *TR
I NOTICED RUST UNDER MY CAR, UPON CLOSER INSPECTION I NOTICED TWO LARGE AREAS OF RUST UNDER THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE FLOOR PAN. THE RUST IS ALMOST COMPLETELY THROUGH THE FLOOR AND WILL NEED REPAIR. *TR
I'M ADDING MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA TO THE COUNTLESS OTHERS WITH RUSTED THROUGH FLOORBOARDS. DURING A RECENT OIL CHANGE, THE TECH SHOWED ME WHERE THE FLOORBOARD HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I COUNTED OVER 120 COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM REPORTED TO NHTSA FOR THE 2005 NISSAN, BUT THE WEBSPHERE IS FULL OF MANY MORE COMPLAINTS STARTING WITH THE 2002 MODEL YEAR. NISSAN NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WITH MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA ON MAY 21, 2014. SHE WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE IN WHICH SHE RECEIVED BACK, LEG AND KNEE INJURIES. MY VEHICLE WAS HIT HARD ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE IN WHICH THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN CLEARLY IT SHOULD HAVE BY THE IMPACT OF THE ACCIDENT AND THE SPEED OF THE OTHER DRIVER. TO ADD, MY DAUGHTER WAS WEARING HER SEAT BELT AND THANK GOD THERE WERE NO FATALITIES. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I HAD NO IDEA THAT THERE HAD BEEN RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE FOR AIRBAG ISSUES. I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT IF SO. IN DOING RESEARCH I AM FINDING OUT ABOUT THE AIRBAG ISSUES AFFECTING PAST AND CURRENT NISSAN MODELS. THE CAR WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM SHOULD DEPLOY WHEN THE RESTRAINT CONTROLLER DETECTS A MODERATE TO SEVERE FRONTAL COLLISION. IN MY RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT SOME AIRBAGS FAIL TO DEPLOY BECAUSE AUTO MANUFACTURERS ATTEMPTS TO CUT COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THEIR AIRBAG SYSTEMS, WHICH IN TURN REDUCES THE QUALITY OR THE QUANTITY OF THE AIRBAG SENSORS. WHEN PERFORMING MAINTENANCE ON MY NISSAN ALTIMA, NOTICED TWO LARGE RUST AREAS ORIGINATING FROM DRAIN HOLES LOCATED UNDERNEATH FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARDS. THE RUSTING IS SEVERE, WITH LARGE FLAKES BREAKING AWAY WHEN TOUCHED. THE VEHICLE HAS NO RUST ANYWHERE UNUSUAL ON THE BODY OR THE CHASSIS, AND WHERE THERE IS RUST (ALONG WELD POINTS OF CHASSIS) IT IS NOT COMPARABLE TO THE DEGREE OF CORROSION. I FORWARD THE DECISION TO NISSAN USA, AND THEY CONTACT ME BY PHONE TO POLITELY INFORM ME THAT THEY ARE REJECTING DUE TO THE CAR BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. I INFORMED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE AND THAT THE VEHICLE IS OTHERWISE STRUCTURALLY SOUND, BUT SHE REPEATED THAT REGARDLESS IF THE RUST ORIGINATED FROM A DEFECT FROM NISSAN, THE FACT THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY LEAVES HER UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE VEHICLE IS OWNED AND DRIVEN IN THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION WHERE THERE IS SURFACE SNOW IN THE WINTER, BUT THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS SPRAYED DOWN REGULARLY TO REMOVE CORROSIVE SALT SPRAY. THIS RUSTING WAS NOT VISUALLY PRESENT AS OF 6 MONTHS AGO, BUT IS NOW RAPIDLY EATING AWAY AT THE METAL AT THE SURFACE. *TR
I TOOK MY NISSAN ALTIMA FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC FOUND THE DRIVER SIDE FLOORBOARD TO BE RUSTED OUT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR AND IT WAS PURCHASED WITH THE DEALER UNDERCOATING INCLUDED. I AM GLAD IT WAS FOUND BEFORE MY FOOT WENT THROUGH THE FLOOR WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I CHECKED WITH THE NISSAN DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND HE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM. HE INFORMED ME THAT NISSAN HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WAS INFORMED DURING ROUTINE SERVICE (OIL CHANGE AND WINTER/SUMMER TIRE SWAP) THAT THERE WAS EXTENSIVE RUST IN FRONT FLOOR PANEL AND THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS NEXT YEAR'S SAFETY INSPECTION UNLESS RUSTED AREA WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED.
TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE; VEHICLE SUDDENLY HAS AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER ON HIGHWAY AND WILL NOT CHANGE GEARS. CAMSHAFT SENSORS; SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER TRAVELING AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED, UNEXPECTED STALLING OR ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN AND NOT RESTART. BOTH VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU ALMOST GET RUN OVER BY THE VEHICLE BEHIND YOU. THEY COME UP ON YOU TOO FAST, CONTINUING THEIR NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS NOT REALIZING YOUR VEHICLES LOSS OF POWER UNTIL THEYRE RIGHT UP ON YOU THEN HAVE TO EITHER SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES OR MAKE SUDDEN LANE CHANGE WITHOUT PROPERLY SIGNALING WARNING OTHER DRIVERS. TIMING CHAIN GUIDE AND TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS; WEAR OUT PREMATURELY CAUSING LOOSENING OF THE TIMING CHAIN, MAKES A VERY LOUD CLANKING OR TICKING SOUND ASBIT HITS THE GUIDE AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. STRUTS MOUNTS; CORRODE AND WEAR OUT CREATING A ROUGH AND UNSTABLE STEERING CONTROL AND CLANKING SOUND AS THE STRUTS HIT WHEN DRIVING OVER UNEVEN ROADWAYS, CRACKS, DRIVEWAYS AND SPEED BUMPS. MAKES IT MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER CAUSE THE VIBRATION AND RATTLING IN THE FRONT END. THIS OCCURS IN THE 3.5 LITER ENGINE. THERE HAS ALREADY BEEN SERVICE BULLETINS AND RECALLS ON THE 2.5 LITER ENGINE BUT NOT 3.5. THE ISSUES ARE THE SAME FOR BOTH ENGINES. THE SAME PARTS/MANUFACTURERS ARE USED ON BOTH YET THE 3.5 LITER WASNT INCLUDED. PROBLEMS ARE ONGOING DAILY. ITS VERY UNSAFE.

WE WERE TOLD LAST YEAR THERE WAS A HOLE THE SIZE OF A GRAPEFRUIT IN THE UNDERBODY, UNDER WHERE THE PASSENGER'S FEET WOULD REST. I LOOKED INTO GETTING IT REPAIRED AND NOTICED A LOT OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE, WITH OTHERS ASKING WHY IT WAS NOT RECALLED DUE TO THE VOLUME OF SUCH DEFECTS. TODAY I BROUGHT MY CAR IN TO CHECK ON A NOISE, AND WAS TOLD THE HOLE HAS INCREASED TO THE SIZE OF A BREADBOX AND THAT THE BRAKE CALIPERS ARE THEREFORE RUBBING ON IT. THE FIRST ESTIMATE I RECEIVED TO REPAIR THE HOLE IS $2500, AS THE BODY SHOP WILL HAVE TO CUT OUT THE AFFECTED AREA AND SOLDER IN A NEW PIECE. WHILE I LIVE IN THE MIDWEST, WE WASH THE UNDERBODY IN WINTER, AND I DON'T THINK THIS SHOULD BE HAPPENING ON A 9 YEAR OLD CAR. *TR

MY 2005 ALTIMA WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY WHEN MY SON NOTICED A LARGE PIECE OF RUST UNDER THE PASSENGER FRONT FLOOR. I PULLED UP THE CARPET AND FOUND A 6" BY 16" HOLE IN THE FLOOR. I CONTACTED NISSAN FOR GOODWILL WHICH WAS DECLINED. I WAS A NISSAN CERTIFIED MASTER TECHNICIAN FOR 21 YEARS AND A SERVICE MANAGER FOR THE LAST 2. MY WIFE AND I HAVE PERSONALLY OWNED 10 NISSAN'S AND MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY OWNS 3 MORE. NISSAN SAID ITS AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE. MY CAR IS IN A GARAGE AND IN OTHERWISE GREAT SHAPE. DURING MY TENURE WITH NISSAN I'VE SEEN MULTIPLE ALTIMAS WITH THIS ISSUE. I BELIEVE ITS NOT ENVIRONMENTAL BUT ACTUALLY BECAUSE OF THE SUNROOF DRAINS DRAINING DIRECTLY INTO THAT AREA OF THE FLOOR TO DRIP OUT OF A SEEP HOLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. IF SOMETHING COMES UP OFF THE ROAD THE ONLY THING PROTECTING YOU IS THE CARPET, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT YOUR FEET CAN GO THROUGH TO THE GROUND BELOW. *TR
WHILE CHANGING MY OIL I INSPECTED THE UNDERBODY OF MY CAR AND NOTICED A RUSTED OUT AREA OF FLOORBOARD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I CHECKED FURTHER SAW THAT AN AREA THE SIZE OF A LARGE GRAPEFRUIT IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I LOOKED AT THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SEE THE START OF THE SAME DAMAGE DUE TO RUST. THERE APPEARS TO BE A DRAIN HOLE WHERE THE RUST STARTS. ON THE PASSENGER SIDE YOU CAN SEE THE ORIGINAL DRAIN HOLE AND THE RUST STARTING AROUND IT. ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, THE RUST IS EXTENSIVE ENOUGH THAT THE DRAIN HOLE IS SIMPLY GONE. IN TALKING WITH REPAIRS SHOPS AND CHECKING THE INTERNET I CAN SEE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH NISSAN ALTIMA'S OF MY DESIGN - 2002- 2006. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE (ALLOWS FUMES IN THE CAR IF CARPET WASN'T THERE AND COULD BE STRUCTURAL IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT) CAUSED BY A DESIGN ISSUE (OPEN DRAIN HOLE IN THE FLOOR TRAPPING SALT/WATER), I'D LIKE TO SEE NISSAN ISSUE A RECALL TO REPAIR. I WAS SLOWING DOWN IN PREPARATION TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AT MY EXIT AND I WAS TRAVELING IN THE SECOND TO RIGHT LANE. ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A BANG AND WAS HIT SIMULTANEOUSLY IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HEAD AND NECK. AT FIRST I THOUGHT SOMETHING HAD COME THROUGH THE WINDOW AND HIT ME IN THE SIDE OF THE FACE. IT TOOK ME A FEW SECONDS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED - THE CURTAIN AND SIDE AIRBAGS ON BOTH THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE HAD DEPLOYED WITH NO WARNING OR COLLISION. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS LUCKY THAT THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYING SPONTANEOUSLY DID NOT CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT RESULTING IN INJURIES OR DEATH. I WAS ALSO LUCKY THAT MY 17 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURRED. UPON EXAMINING THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE THERE WAS NO IMPACT DAMAGE ANYWHERE TO HAVE CAUSED THE DEPLOYMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. WE CONTACTED NISSAN USA AND THEY HAVE DETERMINED IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. WE HAVE COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE AND THEY HAVE DETERMINED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL OR MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION AND IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN QUOTED BY THE DEALERSHIP AT ABOUT $6000 (THE CAR ISN'T WORTH THAT MUCH). WE HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE VEHICLE AS COULD BE REASONABLY EXPECTED AND IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS IS OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF REASONABLE CARE THOUGH NONE OF THE PARTIES SEEM INTERESTED IN ADDRESSING IT FURTHER. *TR

THIS ISSUE IS EXTREMELY SCARY TO THINK THAT THE FLOOR PANS COULD RUST OUT AT ANY TIME AND CAUSE SENSELESS FATALITIES. HI, I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE 2008. I REVIEWED SERVICE RECORDS FROM 2005 PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE. THERE HAS BEEN AN EXTREMELY LARGE AMOUNT OF ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE MOST RECENT OF WHICH IS THE "GREY" AREA OF THE ECM ISSUE IN COORDINATION WITH FAMOUS THE CAMSHAFT CRANKSHAFT FAULT P0355 & P0131. I'M AN ENGINEER AND FULLY UNDERSTAND THE MECHANICS OF A VEHICLE. THIS SENSOR WAS A FAULTY DESIGN FROM THE BEGINNING IN WHICH OIL COULD ENTER INSIDE THE SENSOR, THEREFORE CAUSING A SHORT AND DISABLING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WHILE IN MOTION. THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO ME AND WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE. TO FIX THE ISSUE CHEAPLY, NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL TO REPROGRAM THE ECM IN ORDER TO RECOGNIZE THE ?FAULTY? CRANKSHAFT SENSOR PART. BUT IN ORDER TO SAVE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, NISSAN WOULD NOT INCLUDE THE WARRANTIED REPLACEMENT OF THE FAULTY CRANKSHAFT SENSOR DESIGN (MAGNET SENSOR). INSTEAD, THE CONSUMER (MYSELF) WOULD HAVE TO PAY BETWEEN $300 & $450 TO HAVE THE SENSOR REPLACED WITH THE ?NEW & IMPROVED VERSION?. NEW AND IMPROVED MEANS THE PROPERLY DESIGNED VERSION. THE INITIAL DESIGN SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED BUT IT WASN'T. IT DOESN'T TAKE AN ENGINEER TO FIGURE THIS OUT BUT I AM ONE AND FULLY UNDERSTAND THE ?BIG PICTURE? IT IS ALWAYS IN THE SAME SPOT AND NISSAN REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP AND DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. HOLES ALLOW EXHAUST FUMES INTO MY CAR, MAKING DANGEROUS FOR MY CHILDREN TO RIDE IN CAR.
