MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS EXCESSIVE AND PREMATURE RUST ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR PAN. THERE ARE NO OTHER INDICATIONS OF RUST ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, OR ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE UNDER-BODY OF THE VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE FIRST STARTED SHOWING SYMPTOMS IN ~2011 WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN TO THE POINT WHERE IT'S DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE.
VEHICLE WOULD TURN OVER BUT WOULD NOT START. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. ONCE AT AROUND 60,000 MILES AND THE NEXT TIME AT 64,000 MILES. BOTH TIMES IT ENDED UP BEING THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR. BOTH CAMSHAFT SENSORS WERE REPLACED AS RECOMMENDED BY THE SHOP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THEIR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY CAR AS SUDDENLY CUTOFF, WHILE DRIVING!!!! LUCKILY, NOBODY WAS EVER PHYSICALLY HURT. MENTALLY AND EMOTIONALLY IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF SEVERAL PEOPLE, INCLUDING MYSELF. WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY I'VE STARTED TO NOTICE MY CAR AUTOMATICALLY SLOWING DOWN AFTER A CERTAIN SPEED, WITHOUT ME EVEN TOUCHING THE BRAKES. FOR AWHILE I STOPPED GETTING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, IN FEAR OF MY CAR COMPLETELY STOPPING WITH CARS DRIVING BEHIND ME AT A FASTER PACE. ALSO, AT 55 + MILES/HR MY TIRES START TO WOBBLE AND THERE'S A SCRUBBING NOISE WITH THE WOBBLE SOMETIMES. IT FEELS LIKE MY BACK TIRES ARE ABOUT TO FALL OFF. I'VE BOUGHT 3 SETS OF TIRES ALREADY, AND TOMORROW WILL BE MY 4TH SET. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND VERY UNSAFE!!!!! PLEASE HELP ME, THANKS. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA ON 12-22-05. ON 1- 8-11 I NOTICED A 6 TO 8 INCH RUST HOLE COMPLETELY THROUGH THE FLOORBOARD OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR JUST FORWARD OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN AMERICA HAS REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM STATING THAT THE WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT ON THE VEHICLE BY 2 WEEKS. MY CONTENTION IS THAT PROBLEM IS MATERIAL OR WORKMANSHIP DEFECT AND THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING AND ONLY DISCOVERED AT THIS TIME. I AM CERTAIN THAT THIS DAMAGE WILL COMPROMISE THIS VEHICLES PERFORMANCE IN A CRASH, POTENTIALLY ALLOW EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE OCCUPANT CABIN AND BE GENERALLY A SAFETY HAZARD FOR THE DRIVER WHO RESTS HIS OR HER FEET DIRECTLY ON THIS AREA. I HAVE READ INTERNET REPORT THAT DESCRIBE FEMALES HIGH HEELS GETTING CAUGHT IN THE RUSTED FLOOR WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST RESULTS SHOWED A FAILURE WITH THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WAS REPLACED TWICE AFTER THE FIRST REPAIR AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER WRITES TO APPEAL TO HAVE HER VEHICLE SERVICED AT NISSAN'S EXPENSE TO REPAIR THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR PROBLEM UNDER THE RECALL. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PROBLEM CAUSED THE ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE ENGINE SPEED INPUT CIRCUIT SENSOR ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING SHE CONTINUED TO HEAR A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. SHE ALSO MENTIONED THAT EVERY TIME SHE HAD TO SHIFT GEARS THEY WOULD LOCK AND IN ORDER TO CONTINUE DRIVING SHE HAD TO ENGAGE THE SHIFT RELEASE BUTTON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
MY CAR HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY CRANK AND CAM SENSORS, CATALYTIC CONVERTER AS WELL. TODAY I TOOK CAR INTO SHOP BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. I HAVE TO PUT AS MUCH AS 4 QUARTS OF OIL INTO CAR A WEEK. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY INDICATE THAT THEIR ARE RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT MY CAR IS NOT ONE OF THE VINS RECALLED. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY ENGINE REPLACED AS A RECALL BUT WINDSOR NISSAN HAS NO RECORD WHEN I ASKED FOR THE REPORT. I WENT IN TO THE DEALER ON 12/16/10 AT 5:30 PM BECAUSE I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS AS THE GEAR SHIFT WAS GETTING STUCK IN PARK AND COULDN'T MOVE AT ALL. I READ THE BOOK WHICH SAYS TO PUSH THE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON WHICH WILL LET ME MOVE THE GEAR SHIFT TEMPORARILY. I THEN CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO IN TURN TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN TO CHECK IT OUT. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $110 JUST TO SEE IT UNTIL I DISPUTED THAT. AFTERWARDS, HE TOLD ME THAT THE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, HE COULDN'T EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THE CAR JUST UP AND STARTED TO ACT UP OR WHAT LEADS TO THAT. I HAVE AN OLDER MODEL NISSAN ALTIMA AND IT RUNS BETTER THAN THE 2006. I HAVE HAD MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE NEW CAR THAN I HAD WITH THE OLD ONE. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE BACK BRAKE LIGHTS 6 TIMES WITHIN THE YEAR BECAUSE IT CONTINUES TO BLOW OUT AS WELL AS THE OVER HEAD LIGHT ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THE ONLY THING THAT CONFUSES ME IS THE GEAR SHIFT, NOW I'M SUBJECT TO PAY $300 FOR THIS PART BEING REPLACED BECAUSE IT ISN'T COVERED IN THE WARRANTY AND NO ONE COULD TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT CAUSES THIS PROBLEM. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE. I HAVE CONTACTED OTHER MECHANICS WHO SEEM TO FEEL THAT THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE CAR IS ONLY 4 1/2 YEARS OLD. *TR
ON CRUISE CONTROL, TRAVELING IN A 50 MPH GOING 45 SUDDENLY THE TRANSMISSON WENT INTO A HIGH PITCH THE ENGINE WENT TO NEARLY 6000 RPM, REVERSED THE CRUISE AND IT RESTORED, THE GEARS ON THE AUTO TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN MESSED UP EVER SINCE.

I NOTICED THAT MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS A DESIGN DEFECT. WHEN YOU START UP THE ENGINE THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER LIGHTS UP AUTOMATICALLY, EVEN IF THE DRIVING LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF. AT NIGHT TIME, THIS CAN LEAD THE DRIVER TO BELIEVE THAT HIS DRIVING LIGHTS ARE ON AS WELL, SINCE MOST OTHER CARS REQUIRE FOR THE LIGHTS TO BE TURNED ON, IN ORDER TO TURN ON THE ILLUMINATION ON THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER. I HAVE SEEN OTHER NISSAN ALTIMAS DRIVEN AT NIGHT (INCLUDING A 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA HYBRID), WHICH LED ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS COMMON DESIGN FLAW FOR THESE CARS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TAIL PIPE WAS EMITTING EXCESSIVE SMOKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT SLUDGE WAS PRESENT BECAUSE OF IMPROPER VEHICLE MAINTENANCE. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED WITH THE LOCAL DEALER AND OFFERED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED DUE TO THE COST. THE URRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000. I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY , AND THE AIRBAGS FAILED, THEY DID NOT DEPLOY. WAS TOLD BY THE FIRE DEPT, AND THE HIGHWAY PATROL THEY SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THERE WAS MAJOR FRONT DAMAGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH SHE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH WAS INCLUDED IN A 4 CAR PILE-UP. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON THE DRIVERS SIDE NOR THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CONTACT AND A PASSENGER RECEIVED ABRASIONS TO THE CHEST AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 59,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO MECHANIC, WHO ADVISED THAT A QUART OF OIL WAS BEING CONSUMED EVERY 1,000 MILES. THE TECHNICIAN DETECTED THAT THE ENGINE DIP-STICK WAS COMPLETELY DRY AND ENGINE OIL WAS DISPENSED AT THE APPROPRIATE LEVEL. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,748.
I PURCHASED MY NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R IN JUNE OF 2007. DURING THAT SUMMER THE CLUTCH WOULD STICK ON FEW OCCASIONS AND I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO CHANGE GEARS. ON ONE OCCASION I HAD TO PULL OFF THE FREEWAY AND PUMP THE CLUTCH PETAL MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL IT BECAME FREE AND I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE GEARS SUCCESSFULLY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO WHICH THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS ACTUALLY OCCURRING, WHICH WAS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE SINCE IT WAS SPORADIC. I HAVE NOTICED THAT DURING WINTER ON OCCASION THE CLUTCH AND BRAKES WOULD NEED TO BE PUMPED BEFORE DRIVING OTHERWISE THE CLUTCH WOULD STICK AND THE BRAKES JUST WOULDN'T WORK. THIS MORNING I GOT IN MY NISSAN WHICH HAD BEEN PARKING IN THE GARAGE ALL NIGHT, AND THE CLUTCH PETAL WAS SUNK TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR ON, BUT COULDN'T SWITCH GEARS. I TRIED PULLING UP ON THE CLUTCH PETAL WITH MY FOOT AND NOTHING. IT TOOK MULTIPLE TIMES OF TRYING TO PICK IT UP WITH MY FOOT AND TRYING TO UN-STICK IT BY PRESSING DOWN HARD ON IT BEFORE IT FINALLY CAME UP AND I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN REVERSE TO DRIVE. *TR
WE BOUGHT OUR 06 NISSAN ALTIMA IN 08 AND HAD SOME TROUBLE SOON AFTER WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING ON THE FIRST OR SECOND TRY. WE CONTACTED THE DEALER SHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKING AND WE SHOULD FORCIBLY TURN THE WHEEL TO TURN ON THE CAR. STILL HAD PROBLEMS SO WE TOOK OUR CAR TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE BATTERY. THE NEW BATTERY HELPED WITH THE STARTING ISSUE FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. THEN WE NOTICE THAT THE ENGINE OIL LEVELS WOULD BE LOW AFTER ONLY 1,000 MILES. WE TOOK THE CAR TO OUR LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID JUST KEEP ADDING OIL. THEN A WEEK AGO WE TOOK THE CAR IN TO GET THE OIL CHANGED AND THEY SAID WE HAD NO OIL IN THE ENGINE AT ALL. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THE PISTON RINGS WERE SHOT AND OUR OIL WAS MIXING WITH THE COOLANT. WE CALLED NISSAN TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP US WITH THE COST OF A REPLACEMENT ENGINE THAT THE DEALERSHIP SAID WE WOULD NEED VERY SOON. NISSAN SAID THEY WOULD CALL US BACK IN A COUPLE OF DAYS WITH THEIR ANSWER. THEY CALLED US BACK WITHIN 25 MINUTES TO TELL US THEY WOULD NOT HELP US EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH 06 NISSAN ALTIMAS. *TR
SINCE OCTOBER 2010, I HAVE HAD TO GET OIL CHANGES AT LEAST 1000 MILES SOONER (LATELY IT'S BEEN MORE) THAN THE 3000 MILE MARK. THE MECHANICS HAVE NOT FOUND AN EXTERNAL LEAK, AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY TWO MECHANICS THAT MY ENGINE HAS TO BE CONSUMING THE OIL SINCE IT IS NOT LEAKING. I CALLED NISSAN (AND A FEW DEALERS), AND THEY ALL SAID THAT MY VIN DID NOT QUALIFY FOR A RECALL. MY CAR HAS THE SAME ISSUE AS THE OTHERS THAT WERE RECALLED, SO IS NISSAN REQUIRED TO CHECK IT OR FIX IT?

THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. 2006 CERTIFIED USED NISSAN ALTIMA WILL NOT COME IN AND OUT OF "PARK", OR INTO "REVERSE" WHILE TRYING TO GO INTO "PARK". SHIFTER AND RELATED PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH NO SUCCESS IN SEPTEMBER 2010. PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE FEBRUARY 2009. CAR HAS BEEN TO DEALERS MULTIPLE TIMES TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM WITH NO SUCCESS. SHIFTER AND ELECTRONIC MODULE REPLACED LATER SEPTEMBER 2010. PROBLEM CAME BACK WITHIN 48 HOURS OF GETTING CAR FROM DEALERSHIP. OWNED CAR FOR ONLY 8 MONTHS BEFORE PROBLEM AROSE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR UNRELATED ISSUES SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR SUBFRAME WAS CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND SHE WAS INFORMED HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V046000, SUSPENSION:REAR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 102,500.
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 580 IN EMERYVILLE CALIFORNIA IN EVENING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC MY CAR BEGAN TO JERK RAPIDLY AND THEN STOPPED WHILE IN TRAFFIC, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AFTER 5 ATTEMPTS THE CAR STARTED. THIS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE TRAVELING TO WORK ON HIGHWAY 50 AND ALSO WHILE DRIVING ON SURFACE STREETS. THIS MAKES ME NERVOUS AND FEARFUL WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND FINALLY AFTER THE STOPPING MULTIPLE TIMES ON THE INTERSTATE AND AT RED LIGHTS, I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND WAS ADVISED MY CRANKSHAFT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THERE WAS A RECALL PER NISSAN AMERICA FOR THIS KNOWN ISSUE. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND WAS ADVISED MY VIN# WAS PART OF THE RECALL BUT THE DAMAGED CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WOULD NOT BE REPLACED, ONLY A RESET OF THE ECM. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE ECM WOULD NOT BE RESET DUE TO THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON DUE TO THE FAULTY CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. I WAS ALSO CHARGED FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH BASICALLY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM THAT SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS ALREADY AWARE OF PER THE VIN#. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA AND A THE FAULTY CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WHICH CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STOP. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE DUE TO FEAR THAT THE CAR WILL STOP AND CAUSE A PILEUP AND OR EVEN DEATH. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AMERICA @1 800 647 7261 AND THEY ARE NOT COOPERATIVE. THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE HOWEVER WILL NOT REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THEN I STRONGLY FEEL THAT NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES WHEN DRIVING AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR A KNOWN DEFECT. I AM CONSIDERING TAKING LEGAL ACTION AGAINST NISSAN SINCE THEY FAILED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND RESOLVE MY ISSUE. *TR

APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 YEARS AGO, I STARTED HEARING A CLICKING NOISE COMING OUT OF MY 3.5L ENGINE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER AND HE SAID I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE ($6000). I DROVE THE CAR FOR ANOTHER 3K MILES AND THE NOISE CONTINUED AND BECAME LOUDER. IT SOUNDS LIKE AN [XXX]MOVIE PROJECTOR. I HAVE BEEN HAVE TROUBLE WITH MY 2006 ALTIMA SE-R SINCE BUYING IT AT 52K MILES. IT'S LIKE EVERYONE ELSE; THE CLUTCH GETS REAL FLOPPY AND LOOSES PRESSURE UNTIL IT SINKS TO THE FLOOR AND WONT RETURN. I WAS TOLD ON 7/7/2010 BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT HE WILL PUT A CLAIM THROUGH TO THE EXTENDED SERVICE AGREEMENT DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE ME WITH THE NECESSARY REPAIRS WHICH IS TO GIVE MY VEHICLE A NEW ENGINE DUE TO THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED SERVICE AGREEMENT WARRANTY FREE OF CHARGE. I AM AWAITING A DECISION. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE COULD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND I CAN BE KILLED INSTANTLY ALONG WITH MY FAMILY AND OTHERS. ALL 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA'S NEED TO BE RECALLED TO BE TESTED FOR THIS OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM DUE TO FAULTY PISTON RINGS. *TR
