TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL SO THE VEHICLE TO COASTED TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE. HE THEN NOTICED THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE VEHICLE. WHILE ADDING MORE POWER STEERING FLUID, HE NOTICED THE FLUID LEAKING DIRECTLY FROM THE POWER STEERING FLUID COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING RACK FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE POWER STEERING RACK WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,762 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000. UPDATED 03/10/11 *BF
LOSING BRAKE FLUID CAUSING WARNING LIGHT TO FLASH. *TR
DASH BOARD IS MELTING.... I SEE OTHER HAVE THIS ISSUE! ITS GETTING WORSE! CURRENTLY MOST OF MY THE MELTING SEAMS TO HAVE STARTED AT THE EDGES WHERE CUTS FOR SPEAKERS AND SUCH WERE MADE. BUT BASICALLY ANYTHING THE SITS ON THE DASHBOARD FOR MORE THEN A FEW MIN GETS STUCK AND STICKY. *TR
MASTER CYLINDER LEAKS ON VEHICLE. HAS POTENTIAL TO CAUSE LOSS OF BRAKING. HAS NOT CAUSED ANY MAJOR FAILURE AT THIS TIME, BUT DOES REQUIRE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR TO NEED A REFILL ABOUT ONCE EVERY 2 MONTHS (I.E. THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH STARTS TO COME ON WHILE DRIVING). *TR
WHEN ADULT IS RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WARNING LIGHT ON DASH SAYS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG IS OFF. THEN THE LIGHT GOES OFF, AFTER A WHILE IT WILL COME BACK ON AND GO OFF AGAIN. IT DOES NOT MATTER THE LENGTH OF THE TRIP IT HAPPENS DURING EVERY TRIP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALER CLAIMS THEY CHECK ALL THE "CODES" AND COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 6 TO 8 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH NO SOLUTION.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT CARBON MONOXIDE WAS LEAKING INTO THE VEHICLE BECAUSE A CRACKED WELD ON THE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,154. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,631. UPDATED 2/28/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. MY 2008 ALTIMA'S PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT GOES ON INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SOMETIMES IT SAYS THAT THE AIRBAG IS OFF. MY DAUGHTER WAS SITTING THERE YESTERDAY AND IT DID IT AGAIN. SHE IS OVER 100 LBS. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER FOR THIS IN THE PAST AND THEY SAID THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ON THE RECALL BUT THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING AND IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. *TR
GAS PEDAL STOPS WORKING,ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK,STARTED IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR,NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC YET,NISSAN SHOP COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG,REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER AS BRAKE LIGHT WAS COMING ON,ITS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH 40,000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD WITH AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AND CRASHED INTO TWO UNOCCUPIED PARKED VEHICLES. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGES TO THE FRONT END. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING INSPECTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK IN THE UP POSITION WHILE DEPRESSING THE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THEY ALSO REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE LEVER ASSEMBLY. UPDATED 11/05/10 THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, HE THEN PUT THE GEAR IN DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE BEYOND 5 MPH. AFTER ABOUT 100 FEET OF A SLOW ROLL AND TRYING TO ENGAGE THE ACCELERATOR, IT CAUGHT WITH A LURCH. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THE TRANSMISSION WAS OVERFILLED WITH FLUID, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN. UPDATED 12/22/10*JB
I BOUGHT MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE 2.5 S BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER WITH NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. THIS CAR IS IN GREAT CONDITION, BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THE DASHBOARD. BUT OVER THE COURSE OF 5 YEARS MY CAR'S DASHBOARD HAS BEEN PROGRESSIVELY MELTING AND I BELIEVE THAT IF IT IS NOT FIXED BY THE MANUFACTURER IT CAN LEAD TO A SAFETY PROBLEM ON ALL CARS THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. PERSONALLY I HAVE NEVER SEEN A DASHBOARD MELT, SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF THIS CAN BE RECALLED AND FIXED BECAUSE HONESTLY ITS A MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM, NOT A CONSUMERS. I LIVE IN HAWAII AND AFTER A COUPLE OF YEARS OWNING THIS VEHICLE, THE DASHBOARD BEGAN TO MELT CAUSING A VERY BAD GLARE TO THE DRIVER. THE MELTING STARTED SMALL BUT GOT WORSE OVER TIME. I BELIEVE THE GLARE IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED BY NISSAN TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD. I HAVE NEVER PUT ANY KIND OF PRODUCT, THE ONLY REASON I CAN THINK OF IS THE HOT SUN LIVING IN HAWAII. I HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS BY NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS IN WARM CLIMATES AS WELL. *JS
2008 ALTIMA 2.5S WAS ON 35-35 DEGREE INCLINE WITH FRONT FACING UPHILL. AS I WAS EXITING THE VEHICLE, IT POPPED OUT OF PARK AND INTO NEUTRAL. BEFORE I COULD STOP IT, THE DRIVER DOOR CAUGHT ON NEIGHBORING YARD/HILL AND BENT FORWARD. DAMAGE TO REAR BUMPER AS WELL. DAMAGE TOTALED APPROXIMATELY $3700. NISSAN SAID THEIR FILED TECH COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I HAVE FOUND 7 OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING BUT THEY DID NOT SEEM TO CARE. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE OR PARK FOR THAT MATTER. *TR
I AM IN FLORIDA AND CAR DASHBOARD HAS BEEN MADE WITH CHEAP MATERIAL WHICH STARTED TO MELT AFTER JUST A FEW YEARS ON PURCHASE. IN 2011 I DID CALL NISSAN BUT NO ONE REPLIED MY CALL. I KEPT ON THINKING THAT MAY BE THERE IS SOMETHING THAT I HAVE DONE BUT AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON MY ISSUE, I NOTICED THAT INTERNET IS FULL OF THIS COMPLAIN ABOUT NISSAN ALTIMA 2008 DASHBOARD BEING MELTING, CRACKING AND STICKY WHEN YOU TOUCH IT. THE GLARE FROM DASHBOARD IS SO MUCH THAT IT GETS HARD TO DRIVE IN SUNNY WEATHER. I HAVE STOPPED TO DRIVE MY CAR AND THE DAY I RUN INTO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO GLARE, I WILL CALL MY LAWYER RIGHT AWAY. LETTER FROM CONGRESSMAN TIBERI ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT REGARDING NISSAN DEALERSHIP (DOT/I#2010-2206) *TGW THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SECURE FINANCING AFTER LOOSING HIS JOB AND WANTED TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, NISSAN STATED THEY WOULD FINANCE THE VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH THE CONSUMER STATED HE NO LONGER HAS A JOB. NISSAN STATED THE CONSUMER IS STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOAN. *JB
SUPPLEMENTAL AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUE TO STAY LITE THOUGH THE SYSTEM IS SAID TO BE WORKING FINE. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A SERVICE RECALL ON THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THE SERVICE WRITER ASKED THE TECH IF THE LIGHT TURNED OFF. I COULDN'T HEAR THE FAR END OF THE CONVERSATION. I WAS TOLD THE SYSTEM WAS FINE. DROVE OFF THE LOT AND THE LIGHT IS STILL ON. WHEN I WENT BACK THE SERVICE REP SAID MY AIRBAG WAS FINE AND IF I WANTED THE ISSUE RESOLVED I'D HAVE TO PAY FOR A SERVICE INSPECTION; THOUGH JUST 15 MINUTES AGO IT WAS IN FOR RECALL REPAIRS. THE SERVICE RECALL EVEN STATED THAT IF THE LIGHT WAS ON THE SYSTEM MAY BE IMPACTED BY THE RECALL. OF COURSE MY WARRANTY WAS UP JUST 300 MILES AGO AND I AM REALLY BOTHERED BY THE FACT THEY WONT AT LEAST CHECK IT OUT SINCE THEY ISSUED A RECALL. I CONTACT NISSAN USA, BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO MY REQUEST AND THE LOCAL DEALER WAS UNWILLING TO ASSIST. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V521000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: SOFTWARE). THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN SIX MONTHS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WOULD USE A CUSHION WHEN SITTING IN THE SEAT AND THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE SEAT CUSHION COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DID NOT BELIEVE THE CUSHION TO BE THE CULPRIT BECAUSE THE AIR BAG LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE FOR SIX MONTHS WHILE USING THE CUSHION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,800. UPDTATED 2/17/11 *CN UPDATED 02/23/11
DASHBOARD STARTED MELTING SOON AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS TIME GOES ON. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE GLARE IT CAUSES AS THE SUN SHINING IN. IT HAS GOTTEN SO STICKY THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN PUT A WINDSHIELD COVER UP TO TRY TO PROTECT THE DASH. EVEN WITH THE WINDSHIELD PROTECTOR THE DASH WAS STILL MELTING. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR IS HOUSED IN A CASING OF REFLECTIVE METAL, THE SAME AS THE REST OF THE BODY OF THE CAR. THE SHAPE OF THE SHAFT CONNECTING THE CASING TO THE DOOR IS SHAPED NEARLY PARABOLIC, WHICH MEANS THAT IF PARALLEL RAYS OF LIGHT (SUCH AS FROM THE SUN) ARE COLLECTED AND FOCUSED SO THAT THEY CONCENTRATE AT ONE POINT. AS IT HAPPENS, THE GLARE FROM THE SUNLIGHT CONCENTRATES AT A POINT RIGHT AROUND WHERE THE DRIVER'S EYES WOULD BE. AT LEAST NEAR MY EYES, THOUGH I'M TALLER THAN AVERAGE (6'5"). THE GLARE IS VERY DISTRACTING FOR ME. I HAVE TO LEAN OFF TO THE SIDE TO TRY TO AVOID THE GLARE. IN THE PAST I'VE GOTTEN AROUND THE PROBLEM BY CUTTING STRIPS OF BLACK GAFFER'S TAPE (A KIND OF TAPE USED BY TV AND SOUND PROFESSIONALS) AND COVERING UP THE TOP OF THE MIRROR HOUSING. IT WAS RECENTLY TAKEN OFF WHEN I HAD SOME SCRATCHES BUFFED OUT ELSEWHERE ON THE CAR. I HAPPENED TO GET SOME DIRECT SUN TODAY, SO I GRABBED SOME PICTURES TO SHARE WITH YOU, IF YOU WANT THEM. *TR
APPROXIMATELY THE LAST 13 MONTHS I HAVE NOTICED 2-3 TIMES A WEEK, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LIGHT WAS ON. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE THIS LIGHT WAS ON, I DROVE BY THE NISSAN DEALER (EASTSIDE NISSAN OF BELLEVUE, WA) AND SHOWED THE LIGHT WAS ON EVEN WITH MY WIFE SITTING SQUARE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE TECHNICIAN DROVE WITH MY WIFE WITH THE LIGHT STILL ON. HOWEVER, HE PULLED IN SOME SENSOR AND STATED THAT THE SYSTEM SHOULD WORK FINE EVEN IF THE LIGHT WAS ON. THEY STATED THAT THEY TESTED THE SENSOR LAST YEAR AND IT WORKED FINE SO THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN USA MANY TIMES AND ALL I WOULD GET IS SOMEONE TELLING ME THAT THEY HAVE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. BASED ON NISSAN'S POSITION, I AM HOLDING NISSAN CORPORATION, EASTSIDE NISSAN, AND NHTSA LIABLE FOR ANY INJURIES WHICH RESULT FROM INJURY FROM AN ACCIDENT AND ALSO PAIN AND SUFFERING AND ANY ADDITIONAL DISTRESS, ESPECIALLY IF THE AIRBAG OR OTHER SAFETY SYSTEM FAILS. THE NISSAN AIRBAG SYSTEM CAN LEAD TO A FATALITY EVEN WITH AN ADULT 150+ LBS. JUST PRIOR TO AN ACCIDENT. NO PART HAVE BEEN CHANGED OUT AND MY WARRANTY IS ABOUT TO EXPIRE WITH NO ACTION ON NISSAN'S PART EXCEPT FOR EXCUSES OF WHY THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
CVT TRANSMISSION IS WARMED UP AFTER APPROXIMATELY THIRTY MINUTES OF DRIVING. ONCE WARM, FROM A COMPLETE STOP, I LIGHTLY ACCELERATE TO 20MPH. THE RPMS DROP SLIGHTLY AND MORE ACCELERATION IS NECESSARY TO DRIVE FASTER THAN 20MPH. I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN AND THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS/SURGES THREE TO FIVE TIMES THEN ACCELERATES RAPIDLY. THIS CAUSES YOUR NECK TO SNAP BACK AND THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE CONTROL. NO ACCIDENT YET BUT IT COULD EASILY HAPPEN. TAKEN TO NISSAN DEALER IN CALIFORNIA WHO CALLED IT A "NORMAL OPERATING CONDITION" AND SENT ME HOME. STILL FIGHTING WITH NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE. *TR
ON OCCASION/RANDOMLY THE CLUTCH ON THE 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE WILL SINK TO THE FLOOR WHICH DOES NOT ENABLE THE DRIVER TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER IN THE PAST TO REPAIR BUT THE SAME SITUATION HAS ARISEN. NOT HAVING ABILITY TO SHIFT CAN STALL THE VEHICLE AND REDER IT INOPERABLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY, ON AN OFF-RAMP, IN AN INTERSECTION, ETC. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH WITH PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD RESULTING IN A CRASH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP TO BE INSPECTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 35,000. MY DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND APPEARS TO BE MELTING AWAY. THIS SHINY SURFACE CAUSES AN AWFUL GLARED REFLECTION ON THE WINDSHIELD. ALSO, IT CAUSES THE CAR TO APPEAR OLD AND EVERYTHING STICKS TO IT INCLUDING PAPERS AND INSECTS. IT'S PRETTY GROSS! *TR
I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP, WAS REAR ENDED BY A FORD EXPLORER, WHICH THEREFORE MADE ME REAR END THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME. THE DRIVER NEVER PUT ON THEIR BRAKES. THE BACK GLASS SHATTERED, MY TRUNK WAS IN MY BACKSEAT, GAS TANK EXPOSED. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. GUESS THE FRONTAL HIT WASN'T HARD ENOUGH TO MAKE THE FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOY, WHICH THEREFORE HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL, THAT CAUSED ME TO HAVE A 3CM LACERATION ABOVE RIGHT EYE, WHICH REQUIRED CLOSING. THE REAR SIDE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED, BUT DIDN'T!! I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS BECAUSE I HAVE A CHILD THAT COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE BACK SEAT, I HAD JUST TAKEN HER TO DAYCARE BEFORE I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK. *TR
2008 ALTIMA WHEELS MAKING TO MUCH NOISE-HAVE REPLACES FRONT WHEEL HUB AT NO COST-STILL A HOWLING NOISE. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA AND I HAVE HAD TO HAVE 2 TRANSMISSIONS IN MY CAR. I HAD TO REPLACE AT 63000 MILES AND NOW I NEED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION AT 149000. THIS 2ND TRANSMISSION HAS ONLY ABOUT 85000 . NISSAN WON'T OWN UP TO THEIR PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION. I AM NOT REPLACING AGAIN FOR A 3RD TRANSMISSION IN MY CAR. *TR
I JUST BROUGHT THE CAR ON THE 12 AND I NOTICE THAT THE DASHBOARD MELTING. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAG MALFUNCTIONS WHEN I HAVE A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE SEAT. I HAVE RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES AND THEY TEST IT WITH A 75# WEIGHT AND SAY THEY CAN'T REPLICATE THE CONDITION. THE PROBLEM BECOMES MORE PRONOUNCED AS THE PASSENGER WEIGHT INCREASES, SO IT MALFUNCTIONS MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN I HAVE MY 185# SON IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THAN MY 120# WIFE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL OR HESITATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER IN MARCH 2010 WHERE THEY REPLACED THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION WITH A SALVAGE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000.
2008 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE 3.5SE. PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED BY 165# MALE AND THE AIRBAG DISPLAY ON THE DASH SHOWS THAT THE AIRBAG IS OFF. THE VEHICLE SLID ACROSS THE ROADWAY AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE POLICE WAS NOT CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR BODY DAMAGE REPAIRS. IN ADDITION, THE DAY BEFORE THE FAILURE THE "VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL OFF" (VDC) AND "SLIP" WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING INDICATORS REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
THIS IS A VEHICLE THAT IS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND IT USES EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL, 2 TO 3+ QUARTS EVERY 1000 TO 2000 MILES. IT IS THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE, NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5L ENGINE, THAT WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN 2006. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE, ON WEB BOARDS AND COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA, ONLY TO HAVE THE DEALER TELL THEM THAT THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXCEEDED AND THE MOTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT THE CUSTOMERS' EXPENSE. THE DASH OF MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA IS MELTING OR DETERIORATING. IT HAS BECOME SO SHINY THAT WHEN THE SUN OR STREETLIGHTS REFLECT ON MY WINDSHIELD, IT IS ALMOST A COMPLETE WHITE-OUT EFFECT. HE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES TO THE HEAD, NECK, CONTORTED SPINE, BACK, SHOULDERS, HEAD CONTUSIONS AND A FRACTURED JAW. NEITHER THE FRONTAL OR SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEND A TECHNICIAN TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED OVER $12,000 WORTH OF DAMAGES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 21,000.

I WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 45 TO 50 MPH, THE BREAKS STOPPED WORKING, I TAPPED THE BREAKS CONTINUOUSLY AND STILL THEY DID NOT WORK AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE STEERING WHEEL STARTING TURNING UN-CONTROLLABLY TO THE RIGHT, THEN TO THE LEFT. MY NAME IS FATIMA OWODUNNI, I AM REPORTING AN ACCIDENT I HAD WITH MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2008 ON 7/28/09. IT HAPPENED IN THE PARKING LOT OF BED BATH AND BEYOND @ OWINGS MILLS MD WHEN I TRIED TO PARK THE CAR. SAFETY PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AS I WAS A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE. I AM 5' 7" TALL AND AROUND 140 LBS. THEREFORE, THE AIR BAG SHOULD BE FUNCTIONING WHILE I AM IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. HOWEVER, THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON ERRATICALLY EVEN TO THIS DAY IN 2013.
