I PURCHASED A 2008 ALTIMA FROM BILL RAY NISSAN (SANDFORD FL) IN OCT 07. AFTER ONLY 25,000 MILES THE TIRES (CONTINENTAL CONTI PRO 215/60R-16 94T) BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE. LUCKILY I PURCHASED A TIRE WARRANTY FROM DISCOUNT TIRE COMPANY SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. OF COURSE THERE WAS NOTHING THAT NISSAN COULD DO ABOUT THE TIRES. THIS WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE TIRE COMPANY WHICH WILL ONLY WARRANTY THE TIRES FOR MANUFACTURE 'DEFECTS'.I DIDN'T WANT TO WAIT FOR THE TIRES TO FALL APART AT HWY SPEEDS. SO WITH MY EXTRA INSURANCE THROUGH DISCOUNT TIRE COMPANY THEY WERE ABLE TO PRORATE THE TIRES AND NOW I'M DRIVING ON SOME VERY QUIET TIRES FROM YOKOHAMA (215/60R-16 95H) WITH 33,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I'LL NEVER GO BACK TO CONTINENTAL TIRES. *TR
WHEN ADULT PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT INTERMITTENTLY THE AIR BAG OFF LIGHT GOES ON, EVEN THOUGH THE PASSENGER IS SITTING UPRIGHT IN THE SEAT WITH LEGS EXTENDED IN FRONT OF THEM AS THEY SHOULD BE. PASSENGER SEAT REPLACED BY NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE. WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE CONTACT COULD NOT SEE THROUGH THE REAR WINDOW DUE TO ITS POOR DESIGN. SHE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE SHE WAS CONCERNED THAT A CRASH COULD OCCUR DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY. THE DEALER REIMBURSED THE CONTACT FOR THE FULL PURCHASE PRICE OF THE VEHICLE. I DRIVE A NEW 2008 NISSAN ULTIMA THAT I HAVE HAD FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. MY COMPLAINT IS REGARDING THE WINDSHIELD/WIPER USAGE. IN INCLEMENT WEATHER I FEEL THAT WHILE USING MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS I CAN NOT SEE AS I SHOULD OR HAVE IN OTHER CARS. WHILE USING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS IT BLURS THE WINDSHIELD LIKE I AM LOOKING THROUGH A FILM. I AM ON THE ROAD EVERY DAY FOR TWO HOURS AND THIS WHOLE LAST WEEK IT HAS RAINED EVERY DAY...SO FOR THE LAST WEEK OF CONTINUAL USE I AM STILL COMPLAINING OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE I DROVE THE CAR OFF THE LOT NEW. I FEEL THIS COULD CAUSE INJURY/CRASH IN THE FUTURE DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO START VEHICLE WITH THE KEYLESS FEATURE OR BY USING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT HAD TO WAIT A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE BEING ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE BRAKE SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,750.
I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA FROM BAKER-JACKSON NISSAN, HOUSTON, FOR MY DAUGHTER ON MAY 21. MY DAUGHTER DROVE THE CAR ONE DAY AND RETURNED IT TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN HER CITY OF ARLINGTON, TEXAS. THIS DEALERSHIP, DON DAVIS NISSAN, INFORMED US THEY DON'T KNOW HOW WE WERE SOLD THIS CAR, BECAUSE THE REAR SUSPENSION HAD BASICALLY COME APART. THE STUDS HOLDING THE STRUTS WERE MISSING AND BROKEN OFF; ONE MISSING COMPLETELY AND THE OTHER SHEARED OFF. THEY INDICATED MY DAUGHTER WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE ARRIVED IN ARLINGTON SAFELY WITHOUT A MAJOR ACCIDENT OCCURRING. I HAVE ASKED NISSAN TO REPLACE THE CAR WITH AN EXACT MAKE/MODEL/STYLE, BUT TO DATE THEY HAVE NOT AND ARE TELLING ME THEY ARE PLANNING TO REPAIR THE CAR. THEY SENT A NISSAN ENGINEER OUT TO THE ARLINGTON DEALERSHIP TO REVIEW, AND HE INDICATED TO THE SERVICE SHOP PERSONNEL, THE STUDS WERE NOT TORQUED PROPERLY FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE PLACED A CLAIM WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, I HAVE TALKED TO BAKER-JACKSON NISSAN TO REPLACE THE CAR----TO DATE, I AM ONLY GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM BOTH. WE HAVE ONLY DRIVEN THE CAR 1 DAY AND HAVE BEEN INCONVENIENCED FOR MORE THAN 2 WEEKS NOW. I THINK NISSAN MAY BE TRYING TO COVER UP A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I'M READY TO GO PUBLIC WITH THIS AND AM CONSIDERING LEGAL ACTIONS. CAN SOMEONE FROM THIS OFFICE PLEASE CALL ME AND DISCUSS MY OPTIONS. I BOUGHT A CAR IN MARCH 2009. LAST SATURDAY, MAY 15 2010, I WAS DRIVING TO MY FRIEND GRADUATION,SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING HOUSTON,I STARTED SEEING SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE CAR. ALARMED, I PULLED MY CAR OVER AS FAR AS I COULD AND DECIDED TO STEP OUTSIDE TO SEE WHERE THE SMOKE WHERE COMING FROM. I POPPED THE HOOD, SAW FLAMES. I HAD GOTTEN A FEW HUNDRED FEET AWAY AND WATCH MY CAR BURN. HELPLESS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW A CAR WOULD CATCH FIRE BY ITSELF.I REALLY BELIEVE THAT THE FIRE WASN'T THE RESULT OF MY NEGLIGENCE . I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING 65MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND I COULD HEAR NOISE UNDER THE CAR, ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASH LIT UP, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, COOLANT LIGHT, BATTERY, I THEN LOST POWER STEERING AND LOST ACCELERATION, CARS WERE SPEEDING BY ME AND I COASTED TO THE OFF RAMP. I GOT TOWED TO THE DEALER BUT SERVICE DEPT WAS CLOSED BECAUSE IT WAS SUNDAY. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE SERVICE DEPT. CALLED AND SAID THE CAR WAS REPAIRED. MY HUSBAND WENT TO GET THE CAR AND THEY HAD SAID THAT IT WAS THE RETENTIONER BELT AND THAT THE PULLEY HAD SHEARED OFF. THEY SAID THEY HAD A CUSTOMER THE WEEK BEFORE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WE ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT NISSAN WAS AWARE OF THIS FAULTY PART. *TR
THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM ON MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE INDICATOR SAYING THAT THE AIRBAG IS OFF IS LIT WHEN THERE IS A FULL SIZE 150 LB PERSON IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THERE IS A RECALL OUT RIGHT NOW FOR 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPES BUT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT ONE OF THOSE BEING RECALLED. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 4+ TIMES AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT EVERYTHING IS WORKING ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS. I HAVE TALKED TO NISSAN AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS UPSETS ME GREATLY BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A PASSENGER AIRBAG FOR FULL SIZE PASSENGERS. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG, I TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD SEND A VIDEO OF MY DRIVING WITH A FULL SIZE PASSENGER AND HAVING THE AIRBAG DISABLED. THERE IS NO WAY TO OVER-RIDE THIS FUNCTION. SO I AM STUCK WITH EITHER HAVING A ONE PERSON CAR OR TELLING MY PASSENGER THAT IF WE GET IN A WRECK THAT HIS AIRBAG WONT DEPLOY. THEY CONTINUE TO TELL ME MY CAR IS UNDER THE CORRECT SPECIFICATIONS BUT I HAVE SOMEONE WHO IS DOUBLE WHAT THE SENSOR WEIGHT NEEDS TO BE IN ORDER FOR THE AIRBAG TO BE ENABLED. I AM STUCK WITH A ONE PERSON CAR, BECAUSE I REFUSE TO DRIVE ANYONE KNOWING THAT IF I DO GET IN AN ACCIDENT THEY WILL DIE. I JUST WANT THE PROBLEM FIXED. BOTH NISSAN AND THE SERVICE SHOPS BELIEVE MY STORY FULLY BUT THEY CONTINUE TO SAY THAT UNTIL THEY CAN FIND THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM THAT IT CANNOT BE FIXED. SO AGAIN, I AM STUCK. THEY RAN ALL OF THEIR TESTS AND THEY CAME BACK "OK". I TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD LIKE FOR NISSAN TO BUY BACK MY CAR BUT THEY OF COURSE REFUSED. I CANT DRIVE A CAR WITH NO PASSENGER AIRBAG AND YET THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT THERE ISN'T ANYTHING I CAN DO! I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA FROM HANLESS HILLTOP NISSAN, RICHMOND, CA FOR MYSELF ON MARCH 30, 2008. I DROVE THE CAR ONE DAY AND RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER TO INQUIRE AS TO WHAT VEHICLE WAS GIVEN TO ME, BECAUSE IS WAS NOT THE VEHICLE THAT I TEST DROVE, I WAS TOLD BY MY SALE PERSON THAT IT WAS THE VEHICLE THAT WAS TEST DRIVEN. THE REASON I WENT BACK TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE VEHICLE WAS BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE CAR DROVE. BASICALLY, THE CAR DRIVES LIKE AN OLD BEAT UP 1955 VEHICLE. THE CARS STEERING IS ALL OVER THE ROAD, IT FEELS UNSAFE. THE CAR BOTTOMED OUT SEVERAL TIMES, EVEN AFTER I HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY ANOTHER NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT.. WELL, AFTER MY CONTINUED COMPLAINTS, HANLESS NISSAN FINALLY AGREED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE, THE SUSPENSION HAD BASICALLY COME APART. THEY REPLACED TWO BOLTS AT THE DIRECTION OF NISSAN.. WELL, THIS DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE A DAY AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BOLTS, THE CAR BOTTOMED OUT AGAIN WHILE GOING OVER A SAFETY ROAD BUMP. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE HANLESS NISSAN, BUT THEY SAID, BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT RECREATE THE EXACT PROBLEM, NISSAN WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY, IF THEY WERE TO REPLACE THE SHOCK OR DO ANY OTHER WORK ON THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THEM FIRST AGREEING TO THE WORK ORDER. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH A NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE WAYNE NEVILLE AT 866.799.1690 EXT 1442 ALL THE WHILE, I WAS DISCUSSING THIS WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I THOUGHT NISSAN HAD MY BEST INTEREST AT HEART, BUT NOW I SEE IT WAS ALL AN ACT, BECAUSE HE HAS NOT RETURNED ANY OF MY PHONE CALL ABOUT THE CONTINUED PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION OF MY VEHICLE.. I STRONGLY BELIEVE I SHOULD BE GIVEN ANOTHER CAR. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS SUSPENSION PROBLEM, THAT I BELIEVE ONE DAY WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. FAULTY HEADREST DESIGN. PUSHES THE HEAD OF MANY DRIVERS RADICALLY FORWARD, MAKING IT PAINFUL AND DANGEROUS TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM WILL NOT ACTIVATE WHEN A PERSON OCCUPIES THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE OCCUPANT WEIGHS MORE THE 100LBS AND SITS IN A NORMAL FASHION ON THE SEAT. DEALER INSPECTED BUT DID NOT FIND ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK FOR A PASSENGER IN THIS CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT STRUCK DEBRIS ON THE ROADWAY. AS A RESULT, A PIECE OF METAL BECAME LODGED IN THE FUEL TANK AND WAS HANGING DOWN. THE FAILURE CAUSED A FUEL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY ARE REPLACING THE FUEL TANK. THE DEALER STATED THAT WHATEVER HE STRUCK CAUSED GASOLINE TO LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOCATION AND LACK OF PROTECTION OF THE FUEL TANK A SAFETY ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15000. UPDATED 04-28-09 CW THE DRIVERS SIDE TRACK SEAT WAS SLOW AT MOVING. I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA IN MARCH 2008 AND SHORTLY AFTER THE SEAT STARTED TO SQUIRM FROM SIDE TO SIDE IN TURNS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THE SEAT RAILS WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH LATER THE SEAT STARTED THE SAME BEHAVIOR WHEN CORNERING. I TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. MY SEAT IS NOW BECOMING MORE AND MORE LOOSE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE AND PROBLEM. VEHICLE RIDES UNSTABLE. SHARP TURNS CAUSES CAR TO BECOME UNSTABLE, LOSES CONTROLS OF TURN. TIRES OR RIMS UNBALANCED. HAVE VEHICLE SEEM MANY TIMES AND THE PROBLEM CAN NOT BE CORRECTED. NEITHER REPRESENTATIVE WOULD CONFIRM PROBLEM. TOLD BY AMERICAN TIRES SALE ASSOCIATE, NISSAN WILL NOT REIMBURSE THEM FOR CORRECTING THE PROBLEMS. THEY REBALANCED THE TIRES, BUT THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. ADVISE RIGHT FRONT TIRE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WOULD NOT GIVE A WRITE UP ON THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE HAS HAD TOO MANY RECALLS. HANLEES RICHMOND HILLTOP NISSAN SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE MANY RECALLS, PRIOR TO SELLING THIS VEHICLE. MARCH 26, 2009 HAD CAR IN FOR SERVICING, DRIVER SEAT BROKEN, BRAKE HARDWARE DAMAGED - BRAKES REPLACED. MILEAGE AT TIME OF SERVICING 12,800. I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE. I SPOKE WITH THE FINANCE ASSOCIATE ABOUT REPLACING THE CAR, BUT HE REFUSED.. I HAVE NOTED FROM SERVICING ORDER ON MARCH 26, 2009 - HEAT SHIELD PROBLEM - HIGH RPM ON INITIAL STARTUP. ANTIOCH SERVICE ADVISOR DID NOT ADDRESS THIS MATTER, BECAUSE NISSAN HAS NOT ISSUED A CORRECTION ORDER ON THIS AS OF TODAY. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR THAT HAS MANY PROBLEMS FROM THE FIRST DAY OF PURCHASE! I HAVE TRIED SO MANY TIMES TO GET HELP FROM THE SERVICE CENTER AS WELL AS NISSAN CONSUMER SERVICES. NOT HELP!!! *TR

MY NIECE TOOK OUR ALTIMA TO CALIFORNIA (LESS THAN 2,000 MILES ON IT AT THIS TIME). THE CARS BELT WAS BROKEN WHEN THE TENSIONER PULLEY BROKE OFF OF THE ENGINE. THIS CAUSED THE POWER STEERING TO FAIL AND OVERHEATED THE ENGINE. IT HAS BEEN IN MOSSEY NISSAN'S SHOP IN EL CAJON FOR THREE WEEKS NOW DUE TO BACK ORDERED PARTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG HAS BEEN FAILING EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. SHE NOTICED THAT WHEN A PASSENGER IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIR BAG WILL DISPLAY OFF WHEN IT SHOULD DISPLAY ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY RESET THE AIR BAG MODULE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD RECEIVE A CALL BACK BY MAY 26, 2009. SHE WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL REGARDING THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,106.
DRIVERS SEAT CUSHION MOVES SIDE TO SIDE WHEN MAKING TURNS. STARTED AT ABOUT 5,000 MILES AND GETS WORSE WITH TIME. TAKEN CAR TO DEALER THREE TIMES, FIRST TIME SUPPOSEDLY WAS FIXED AND THE NEXT TWO TIMES COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED BY TECH AND NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. APPEARS SEAT COULD BRAKE DURING ACCIDENT. THE SEAT CAN BE MOVED BY SHIFTING BODY WEIGHT. DOESN'T FEEL LIKE SEAT FRAME IS LOOSE FROM THE FLOORBOARD BUT JUST THE CUSHION IS NOT SECURE TO THE SEAT FRAME. I HAVE SEEN THIS COMPLAINT MANY TIMES ON FORUMS AND FROM OTHER OWNERS I KNOW. *TR
TENSIONER FROM ENGINE THAT CREATES TENSION TO THE BELT FELL OFF WHILE I MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. *TR
I HEARD A NOISE WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING FELL OFF BUT THE CAR ONLY HAD 600 MILES ON IT SO I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS A ROCK OR SOMETHING IN THE ROAD THAT GOT KICKED UP. ABOUT A MINUTE LATER MY ACCESSORY BELT THAT CONTROLS THE POWER STEERING, THE WATER PUMP, THE ALTERNATOR AND THE TENSIONER PULLEY FLEW OFF. AFTER GETTING TOWED TO THE DEALER I FOUND OUT THAT THE PULLEY BROKE OFF WHICH CAUSE THE BELT TO COME OFF. I HAD THE TENSIONER PULLEY AND THE BELT REPLACED, BUT NOW IT SEEMS IT MAY HAVE CAUSE ANOTHER PROBLEM WHEN SHIFTING IN REVERSE NOW IT MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE (IT IS GOING INTO THE SHOP FOR THIS PROBLEM THIS WEEKEND). *TR
PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND AN ADULT PASSENGER (150 + POUNDS) IS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AND SOMETIMES CORRECTS ITSELF AND SOMETIMES NOT. WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON THE PASSENGER IS NOT PROTECTED AND THEREFORE SUBJECT TO SERIOUS INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AT LEAST THREE TIMES AND EACH TIME I AM TOLD THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY. I EVEN TOOK IT BACK WITH MY WIFE SITTING IN THE FRONT SEAT AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON SO THEY COULD SEE FOR THEMSELVES THE PROBLEM. IT DID NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO THEM. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN DECEMBER 2007 AND CONTINUES TODAY. BECAUSE THE PROBLEM OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY YOU NEVER KNOW IF YOUR FRONT PASSENGER WILL HAVE AIRBAG PROTECTION WHEN RIDING IN THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE SYSTEM IMPROPERLY CLASSIFIES AN ADULT FRONT SEAT PASSENGER AS A CHILD OR AS AN EMPTY SEAT, ILLUMINATING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS OFF ON THE DASH. THE DEALERSHIP HAS STATED THAT WHEN THIS IS ILLUMINATED THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH. THEY HAVE FAILED TO DIAGNOSE THIS CONCERN STATING THAT THERE WOULD NEED TO BE AN ERROR SHOWING UP ON THE DRIVER DASH IN ORDER FOR TESTING TO BE DONE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT NISSAN HAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM WITH VEHICLES IN THE MODEL YEARS OF 2013-2017. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM EXTENDS WELL BEYOND THE YEARS STATED IN THE RECALL AND SHOULD BE EXAMINED FURTHER. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS CONCERN WITHOUT SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION FROM A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING.
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TURNS ITSELF OFF SPORADICALLY WHEN I (160 LBS) OR MY HUSBAND (190 LBS) SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT NISSAN STATED THAT MY AIRBAG SENSOR WAS OPERATING AS PER SPECIFICATION. THERE IS NO MANUAL OVERRIDE SWITCH TO FORCE THE AIRBAG TO INFLATE DURING A CRASH. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT THE AIRBAG MAY TURN ITSELF OFF WHEN SMALL ADULTS ARE SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, BUT OFFERS NO SOLUTION FOR THIS SITUATION. DOES THIS MEAN THAT NISSAN IS WILLFULLY DEPRIVING SMALL ADULTS (AND, IN OUR CASE, NOT SO SMALL ADULTS) OF THEIR AIRBAG PROTECTION? THIS IS A FATAL DESIGN FLAW. THERE MUST BE A RECALL TO INSTALL A MANUAL OVERRIDE SWITCH FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIRBAG. THE CAR'S COMPUTER MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO DECIDE WHO GETS AN AIRBAG AND WHO DOESN'T. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH CONTINENTAL CONTI PRO CONTACT TIRES (TIRE SIZE 235/55R17 99 H). WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, SHE HEARD A LOUD VIBRATING SOUND THEN LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BRIEFLY. UPON INSPECTION, SHE DISCOVERED THAT THE SIDEWALL ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE SEPARATED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 324 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80. UPDATED 01/29/08. *LJ

THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT THE BATTERY UNTIL THE PART ARRIVES IN JANUARY OF 2008. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE OF THE NAME OF THE PART THAT NEEDS REPLACING. PURCHASED A 2008 NISSAN ALTMA SEPT 17,2007. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT DOES NOT ALWAYS GO OFF WHILE A PASSENGER IS SEATED AND RIDING IN THE AUTO. WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON THE AIR BAG WILL NOT INFLATE. WHEN MY WIFE IS RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON, HER LIFE IS IN DANGER. *TR
