I DRIVE A 2009 NISSAN ULTIMA OVER A YEAR AGO I NOTICED SOMETHING STICKY ON MY DASHBOARD. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I FINALLY REALIZED "MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING" I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN BUT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY WAS UP THEY WOULD NOT FIX MY $2,000 DASHBOARD IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS TO HAPPEN I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT THE CAR. *TR
ALL FOUR TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING UNITS MADE BY SCHRADER COMPANY EQUIPPED ON MY 2009 ALTIMA SE V6 MODEL FAILED AFTER 4 YEARS OR 31,000 MILES. THE GOVERNMENT MANDATED UNIT SHOULD HAVE LASTED AT LEAST HALF THE VEHICLE'S LIFE WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES OR 5 YEARS.
WHEN I GOT INTO THE CAR THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL EXCEPT FOR THE INTELLIGENT KEY AND SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHTS. I ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR BUT IT WOULD NOT EVEN START TO TURN OVER. I NOTICED ALL OF THE LOCKS AND HEADLIGHTS STILL WORKED SO I KNEW IT WAS NOT AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WOULD NOT START DUE TO KEY ERROR MESSAGE. AFTER MY RESEARCH COME TO FIND OUT THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO LOTS OF ALTIMA OWNERS. I GOT IN MY CAR AFTER A SHORT STOP AND THE KEY MESSAGE WAS ON AND NOTHING. IT WOULD NOT START. MY WINDOWS WERE DOWN AND THEY WOULD NOT GO UP. I TRIED EVERYTHING. DISCONNECTED MY BATTER, DID THE NEUTRAL THING. SHOOK STEERING WHEEL. ETC...OF COURSE IT HAPPENS ON A SUNDAY WHEN EVERYTHING IS CLOSED. *TR
AS MY FAMILY AND I WAS TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN, THE CAR'S ACCELERATION APPEARED TO DECLINE OUT OF NO WHERE. EVEN WITH THE GAS PEDAL PRESSED COMPLETELY DOWN TO THE FLOOR, THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN SPEED. IT MADE A WHINING NOISE AS WELL. SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT IT HAS HAPPENED 8 TIMES THAT I CAN COUNT OVER THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE NOR GET A CODE. SO MY ISSUE STILL EXISTS. IT ONLY HAPPENS ON LONG DISTANCE TRIPS WHERE I DRIVE MORE THAN 40 MILES OR SO AT 75 MPH OR MORE, USUALLY 80MPH. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT HAPPENED THIS PAST WEEKEND AND MY YOUNG DAUGHTER AND I WERE ALMOST KILLED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER SO I ONCE AGAIN TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND ONCE AGAIN THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE ISSUE. IT'S PRETTY FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU KNOW THERE'S AN ISSUE BUT YOU CAN'T GET A RESOLUTION. LIKE I WOULD MAKE UP AN ISSUE TO PAY FOR, THAT'S DUMB! THEY WANT YOU TO TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZE NISSAN DEALER BUT WHAT GOOD DOES THAT DO WHEN THEY CAN'T FIND OR FIX THE ISSUE.
THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, MEANING THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS DISARMED, WHILE MY WIFE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. THIS MEANS IF THE CAR WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAG WON'T DEPLOY AND COULD CAUSE MORE INJURY OR DEATH. THERE IS A RECENT NISSAN RECALL FOR ALTIMA 2013-2014 FOR THIS SAME DEFECT. THE SAME ISSUE IS PLAGUING MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. *TR
I BEGAN TO NOTICE SOME STICKINESS ON MY DASHBOARD A FEW YEARS AGO. EVENTUALLY, SOME SECTIONS OF THE DASHBOARD MELTED SO MUCH THAT THEY BECAME WET AND SHINY. BECAUSE THE TEXTURE CHANGED, THE MELTED AREAS BEGAN TO CAUSE A GLARE ON THE GLASS OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE STRAIGHT OUT WHEN ANY LIGHT REFLECTED OFF OF THE DASHBOARD AND CAUSED THE GLARE. I AM AFRAID BECAUSE THE GLARE CAN EASILY BLOCK THE VISIBILITY OF SOMETHING IN THE ROAD OR SOMEONE AHEAD OF ME. I OFFICIALLY BROUGHT THIS PROBLEM TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP ON 10/17/13 EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM HAD BEGUN BEFORE THEN. ON THAT DATE, I WAS TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO ANOTHER ISSUE THAT WAS COVERED BY MY WARRANTY. OUT OF CURIOSITY, I ASKED THE GREETER AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT AND SHE SAID THAT SHE HAD SEEN MANY OF THESE CASES BEFORE. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. ONE OF THE ATTENDANTS TOOK PICTURES AND SUBMITTED IT TO THE COMPANY FOR APPROVAL TO COVER REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. HE LEFT ME A VOICE MESSAGE A WEEK LATER INDICATING IT WAS NOT APPROVED. A YEAR LATER, I SAW THIS SAME SITUATION COVERED BY THE NEWS (NBC 6) AND IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT THAT MANY OF US ARE BEING IMPACTED BY. THIS IS NOT "WEAR AND TEAR" BUT A POORLY MANUFACTURED PLASTIC DASHBOARD. I AM PUTTING IN THIS OFFICIAL COMPLAINT BECAUSE I FEEL THAT THIS IS A DEFECT THAT CAUSES UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THERE BEING TOXIC GASES FROM THE MELTING PLASTIC THAT MY FAMILY MAY BE BREATHING. 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE, SE. WHILE MAKING TURNS (WITHOUT STOPPING), THE CAR STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN AND THE STEERING LOCKS UP. THE MOST RECENT TIME WAS OCTOBER 14, 2013, AND WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN FROM A BUSY STREET AND ONTO A BUSY STREET, THE VEHICLE STALLED WHICH ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO ANOTHER CAR MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN. NISSAN HAS A CURRENT RECALL ON SEVERAL MODELS REGARDING THIS HAPPENING DUE TO A FAULTY ACCELERATOR SENSOR, HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE (MAKE, MODEL, YEAR) ARE NOT IN THE RECALL, AND I SUSPECT IT SHOULD BE. COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME AT LEAST 10 TIMES. *TR
I NOTICE A SHINE STARTED TO BUILD UP ON MY DASHBOARD. I THOUGHT THAT THE CAR WASH PLACE MIGHT HAVE USED TOO MUCH PRODUCT SO I STOPPED GOING TO THE CARWASH. I DECIDED I WAS GOING TO CLEAN IT OFF MYSELF AND WHEN I WENT TO CLEAN IT OFF I REALIZED THERE WAS A THICK FILM OF STICKY RESIDUE. THE RESIDUE IS WAS SO STICKY THAT NOTHING COULD TAKE IT OFF AND EVERYTHING WOULD GET STUCK TO IT. AFTER A FEW MONTHS THE FILM KEPT GROWING TO THE POINT WHERE THE SHINE BECAME ALMOST GLASSY AND TOO REFLECTIVE. I REALIZED THE SUBSTANCE HAD BECOME A HAZARD TO MY SAFETY AND THOSE OF OTHERS, SO I PROCEEDED TO TRY A NUMBER OF PRODUCTS TO TRY AND REMOVE THE FILM. I WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AND PROCEEDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, WHERE I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS NOT A MAINTENANCE PROBLEM, BUT RATHER A FACTORY DEFECT THAT IS WELL DOCUMENTED NOW WITH BOTH THIS AGENCY AND NISSAN ITSELF. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL THERE ARE AT LEAST 100 OTHER CASES. I WOULD LIKE NISSAN TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST. *TR
WHEN I TRIED TO TURN ON MY 2009 ALTIMA WHICH IS 4 YEARS OLD AND PURCHASED BY ME NEW FROM THE DEALER, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE STARTS BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE WHILE PUSHING THE START SWITCH. AFTER TRYING SEVERAL TIMES TO START THE CAR, I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BRAKE SWITCH FAILURE. ACCORDING THE SERVICED REP AT NISSAN AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER, THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING MORE AND MORE. THE CHARGE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM WAS $526.81. PER THE INVOICE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE SUB-HARNESS, THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY, AND THE BAND HOSE HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
ENGINE WITH PUSH BUTTON START WOULD NOT TURN OVER AFTER 3HR STOP AND A LONG DRIVE PREVIOUS TO STOP. BATTERY WAS TOTALLY DEAD, BUT AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO JUMP START IT DID TURN OVER. THERE WAS NO UNUSUAL DRAW ON BATTERY DURING STOP EITHER. STOPPED AT NISSAN DEALER TO CHECK THE STARTING SYSTEM AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT NORMAL. SERVICE TECH RECALLED THIS PROBLEM WITH MY PARTICULAR YEAR AND MODEL, AND SAID A BRAKE SWITCH AND SUB HARNESS ASSEMBLY SHOULD BE REPLACED, BUT AT $800+ COST I DECLINED OFFER. PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY LATER AND AS OF THIS DATE I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM, BUT EVERY TIME I START IT I CROSS MY FINGERS.
FAULTY STEERING WHEEL LOCK SYSTEM CAUSES CAR TO NOT START UP AND LOCKS UP CAR'S ABS AND BRAKES. YOU CANNOT START THE CAR WITHOUT TAKING TO DEALERSHIP TO GET IT REPAIRED. I'VE HEARD MANY CASES ONLINE ABOUT THE NISSAN ALTIMA RANGING FROM 2009-2011 MODELS LOCKING UP HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. AND THEY HAVE NOT RECALLED THIS. AFFECTED PARTS IS SELECTED IN UNKNOWN FACTOR DUE TO ONLY KNOWING A FEW ISSUES THAT BRANCHES FROM THIS MALFUNCTIONING PART AND SYSTEM. *TR
I LEFT MY HOUSE FOR WORK, MADE A STOP AT THE LOCAL PANERA WHEN I WENT TO START MY CAR I NOTICED THE YELLOW HIGHLIGHTED KEY ON THE DASHBOARD AND MY CAR WOULD NOT START, NOT EVEN MAKE ANY NOISE. I CALLED TRIPLE A THEY CAME OUT AND TOLD ME I HAD TO TOW IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I JUST FOUND OUT IT WAS THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $789 PLUS A $32 TOWING FEE. MY WARRANTY ACTUALLY EXPIRED A WHILE AGO SO I CAN NOT PUT IN A CLAIM ON THAT END. THIS IS MY 4TH NISSAN SINCE 1990 AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH ONE OF THEIR VEHICLES. EARLIER THIS YEAR THERE WAS THE RECALL ON THE MUFFLER SYSTEM, WHICH WAS COVERED. I FEEL THAT IF THERE ARE THIS MANY CARS HAVING THIS PROBLEM THAT IT SHOULD BE COVERED AND IF YOUR WARRANTY IS UP YOU SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COST. *TR
MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA DASH IS MELTING. DASH HAS CRACKS AS WELL NEAR THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS AND NEAR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. READ IN FORUMS THAT THE CAR DEALERSHIPS SAY THAT WHEN THE DASH HAS CRACKS AND IS MELTING AIR BAGS COULD NOT DEPLOY CORRECTLY. NISSAN WILL NOT REPLACE DASH DUE TO THE CAR BEING OUT OF WARRANTY AND EXPECT ME TO BUY A NEW ONE WHEN THIS SEEMS LIKE A MANUFACTURING ISSUE NOT TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT AS PART OF THE DESIGN. *TR
I ATTEMPTED TO START MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA ON SUNDAY NIGHT BUT IT WOULD NOT START. IT HAS A PUSH BUTTON START; I PUSHED THE BUTTON, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE DID NOT START, SO I CHECKED THE DIRECTIONS IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL TO START THE CAR BUT STILL WAS NOT ABLE TO START THE CAR. FINALLY, I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. THEY SAID THE STEERING LOCK UNIT HAD GONE BAD AND CHARGED $775.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND SEE THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER BUYERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I SEE THAT THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT NISSAN SHOULD NOT HAVE USED. I THINK THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED AND WE THE CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR NISSANS BAD DESIGN. *TR
WENT TO START MY CAR AFTER A DAY OF WORK ...IT HAS THE PUSH BUTTON START, PUSHED IT, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE CAR DID NOT START SO I PROCEEDED TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE MANUAL TO START THE CAR WHEN THEIR ARE ISSUES,STILL COULD NOT GET THE CAR STARTED SO I HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER.THIS HAPPENED ON A SATURDAY THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO LOOK AT IT TILL MONDAY TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT HAD GONE BAD $750.00 TO FIX IT.AFTER DOING SOME DIGGING ON THE INTERNET I SEE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS AFFECTED THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT NISSAN MODELS WITH DIFFERENT MODEL YEARS.WITH VARYING MILES.I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A FAULTY PART THAT NISSAN HAS USED,SHOULDN'T THIS PART BE A RECALL AND THE CONSUMER NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR NISSANS BAD DESIGN. *TR
THE LOCKS HAVE STOPPED WORKING WHEN THE KEY FOB OR DOOR BUTTON ARE USED. I HAVE REPLACED 3 OUT OF THE FOUR DOOR LOCKS MULTIPLE TIMES WITH THE PROBLEM RECURRING. THIS PRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR PEOPLE NEEDING TO EXIT THE CAR OR ENTER THE CAR QUICKLY. FURTHERMORE, ALL OF THE LOCKS HAVE LOCKED WHEN THE KEY FOB WAS LEFT IN THE CAR (LOCKING ME OUT). THE CAR IS NOT SUPPOSED TO LOCK WHEN THE FOB IS IN THE CAR. IN ADDITION, PRESSING THE LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTON WILL ONLY UNLOCK 2 DOORS AT THIS TIME. THIS APPEARS TO HAVE HAPPENED TO A NUMBER OF PEOPLE. I THINK A RECALL IS IN ORDER SO THE LOCKS WORK AS DESIGNED TO PREVENT SAFETY ISSUES.

MY BOYFRIEND WAS LEAVING A FRIEND'S HOUSE TO COME HOME AND THE CAR WOULD NOT CRANK. WE HAD TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW THE CAR. THE NEXT DAY I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE STEERING UNIT AND THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT 1200.00 TO FIX. LOOKING ON THE INTERNET I SEE THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 ALTIMAS. THINK THAT NISSAN NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. THIS IS NOT NEGLIGENCE OF THE OWNER OF THE CAR THIS IS NISSAN'S OVERSIGHT. I PRAY THAT THIS CAN BE FIXED. AND THAT SOMEONE GETS NISSAN'S ATTENTION.
WE PURCHASED THIS 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA 5 MONTHS AGO WITH 56000 MILES ON IT AND ONLY DROVE IT LOCALLY UNTIL 8/31/13 WHEN WE WENT ON A FIVE HOUR TRIP, 3 OF WHICH WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 TO 70 MPH SPEEDS. AFTER ABOUT 2 HOURS OF RUNNING THESE SPEEDS NON STOP WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE LANE WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC COMING UP ON A SMALL INCLINE THE CAR LOST POWER MY SPEED INSTANTLY DROPPED TO 40 MPH, THE TRACTOR TRAILER FOLLOWING CLOSE BEHIND HAD TO GO ON LOCKDOWN TO AVOID PLOWING US OVER. I WAS FLOOR BOARDING THE CAR TRYING TO MAINTAIN 40 MPH UNTIL I COULD CHANGE LANES TO PULL OVER. IT TOOK ABOUT 10 MILES BEFORE WE COULD CHANGE LANES AT THIS SPEED BUT IN THAT TIME I REALIZED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO MANUALLY DOWNSHIFT FOR MORE POWER THE CVT TRANSMISSION WAS STUCK IN HIGH AND WOULDN'T LET ME DOWNSHIFT MANUALLY. AFTER SITTING ON THE ROAD WITH NO PHONE SIGNAL OR HELP I DECIDED TO STUMBLE TO THE NEAREST TOWN BUT THE TRANSMISSION WAS AGAIN WORKING BY THIS TIME SO WE CAUTIOUSLY FINISHED THE LAST LEG OF OUR TRIP. WITH NO LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AT OUR DESTINATION I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY WEREN'T AWARE OF ANY ISSUES LIKE THIS BUT BRING IT IN UPON RETURN. AT OUR DESTINATION WE AGAIN DROVE THE CAR FOR THREE DAYS SHORT TRIPS WITH NO PROBLEMS BUT ON OUR RETURN TRIP AGAIN TWO HOURS OR SO AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS IM LOSING POWER AND THE TRANSMISSION IS STUCK IN HIGH AGAIN SO WE PULL OVER AND LET IT SET AGAIN BEFORE CONTINUING OUR TRIP HOME. SOON AS WE ARRIVED HOME I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY KEPT IT FOR THREE DAYS AND SAID NO CODES OR PROBLEM COULD BE FOUND AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE TO DRIVE IT AT THE SPEEDS OR DISTANCE THE PROBLEM OCCURRED TO RECREATE IT BUT SUGGESTED I PAY THEM 275.00 TO CHANGE THE FLUID. AFTER RESEARCHING THE WEB I DISCOVERED MANY OTHER OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE ITS EVEN VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE. THIS NISSAN IS AN INTERSTATE DEATH TRAP THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
THE CAR FAILED TO START; I SEE LOTS OF COMPLAINS WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS IN PLACE AND SO DOES THE BRAKE AND THE CAR FAILS TO START. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM TWICE ALREADY AND THE DEALER TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE KEY LESS SWITCH HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND I SEE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THE KEY. AS I CAN SEE OTHERS ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES OF THE CAR LOCKING IN PLACE AND THE PROBLEM IS MORE THAN JUST THE KEY PROBLEM.. THIS SHOULD BE DEFINITELY RECALLED. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. LAST YEAR RIGHT BEFORE MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS PAID OFF, THE DASH BECAME VERY STICKY. THIS PROBLEM BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE IN THE HEAT OF THE MISSISSIPPI SUN. DUST , BUGS, FLORA, PAPER BECOME EMBEDDED IN THE GOO. IT NEVER DRIES. IT JUST STAYS STICKY AND MAKES A DANGEROUS GLARE ON MY WINDSHIELD. I MISTAKENLY THOUGHT MY HUSBAND OR I HAD DONE SOMETHING WRONG BY CLEANING THE DASH, BUT WATER WOULD NOT CAUSE THIS MESS. I FINALLY TOOK IT TO MY DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND GAVE ME A $2000 ESTIMATE TO REPLACE THE DASH. REALLY? WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROUTE 1 IN NORWOOD, MA. MY DASHBOARD PANEL WENT DARK AND MY ENGINE SHUT OFF. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE DID NOT SPUTTER, OR PRESENT ANY ISSUE PRIOR TO THE SHUT DOWN. WE WERE DRIVING ON I 40 AT A STEADY 75 MPH AND WE HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 50 MILES AT THIS SPEED WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN EVEN PRESSING THE GAS TO THE FLOOR DID NOT WORK. WE SLOWED TO 40 TO 45 MPH, THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. EVEN AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY THE CAR ACTED LIKE IT HAD A LOSE OF POWER AND ACCELERATED VERY SLOW. OVER THE WEEKEND I STOPPED AT A SHELL GAS STATION WHEN I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT START AND JUST HAD A KEY IN THE DASHBOARD. I CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T THE BATTERY, ETC... AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCALE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT MY ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THAT I NEEDED TO REPROGRAM THE KEY WHICH WAS A TOTAL OF $995.00. THIS VEHICLE WAS JUST IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PRIOR TO THE FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRING 2 1/2 MONTHS AGO. I WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON THEME WITH 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL OR ANY SOLUTION ON HOW TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND PURCHASED A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA IN 2013. THE DASHBOARD HAS MELTED TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS BECOMING A PROBLEM. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA HAS SENT ME A LETTER INFORMING ME THAT OUR VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) UNIT THAT LOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF TO HELP PREVENT THEFT. ON SOME VEHICLES, DUE TO A (MANUFACTURING IRREGULARITY) THAT HAS SINCE BEEN CORRECTED, THE ESCL MAY MALFUNCTION AFTER THE VEHICLE IS LOCKED AND COULD PREVENT THE ENGINE FROM STARTING. THE ONLY THING THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO DO IS THEY ARE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FROM 3 YEARS/ 36,000 TO 6 YEARS UNLIMITED MILES. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHICH VEHICLES HAS THIS DEFECTIVE ESCL. MY ARGUMENT IS THAT WHAT IF MYSELF OR BOTH OF US ARE ON A TRIP AND WHETHER WE ARE ONE MILE OR 500 FROM OUT HOME WE ARE STRANDED THIS COULD BECOME A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR US OR IF WE HAVE SOLD THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER PARTY OUT IN NO WHERE. AROUND 11:30AM ON 05/15/2013 WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THERE WAS AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED INTO RETAILERS PARKING FOR WHICH IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DETERMINE THE ISSUE. ONCE THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE THEY CAME BACK WITH CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THEY MENTIONED THEY WERE HAVING ISSUES WITH CVT TRANSMISSION IN MY VERSION OF ALTIMA, BUT WOULD BE UNABLE TO COVER THE COST OF A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION OF $4,000. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO FILE A CLAIM AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER FOR REFERENCE. I RECEIVED A CALL BACK WITHIN 24-HOURS OF PLACING THE INITIAL CALL. HOWEVER THE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT BASED OF THE REVIEW OF MY CASE THEY WOULD AGAIN BE UNABLE TO COVER ANY COST ASSOCIATED WITH REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. TO NOTE, NO REVIEW OF MY VEHICLE WAS CONDUCTED. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION WITH A USED TRANSMISSION, BUT AFTER RESEARCHING THERE ARE NUMEROUS CASES OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES IN NISSAN ALTIMA'S YET NISSAN IS NOT RECALLING AND REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, THE DASHBOARD HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THAT I HAVE TO ASK A MEMBER OF MY FAMILY TO DRIVE ME TO WHERE EVER I NEED TO GO. THIS IS AN EXTREME PROBLEM. IF THE GLARE IS THIS BAD FOR ME, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW BAD TO MUST BE FOR OLDER GENERATIONS THAT OWN THIS PARTICULAR CAR. THIS SPREADING GLARE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A BIG PROBLEM. IT COULD BE THE ONSET OF MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS AND EVEN MAJOR HARM. AND SO I ASK YOU IF YOU COULD PLEASE HAVE NISSAN FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
