WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MILES PER HOUR ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, MY 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA LOST ACCELERATION AND WOULD NOT GO BACK INTO GEAR WHICH ALMOST CAUSED A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT WITH AN 18 WHEELER THE SECOND TIME THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. MY CAR WAS ONLY AT 67,000 MILES AND THE DEALERSHIP IS STATING THAT IT NEEDS A NEW CVT TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND COULD HAVE CAUSED OUR BABY TO BE INVOLVED IN A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT. SOMETHING DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE DONE REGARDING THIS SITUATION BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED BADLY!
KEYLOCK ISSUE. CAR WILL NOT START. SITTING IN DRIVEWAY FOR 8 MONTHS SO FAR. CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX. NO WARRANTY..NO RECALL ON ISSUE. I'VE READ THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES TO OTHER NISSAN OWNERS. THE FIX COSTS 800 TO 1000 & NOT INCLUDING THE TOW FEE 100$
CAR LOSES POWER AFTER DRIVING FOR SO LONG AND DECREASES IN SPEED. IT'S HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I PULL OVER TO GIVE CAR A REST BUT IT'S DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT WON'T ACCELERATE WHEN IT HAPPENS AND ON THE INTERSTATE IS NO PLACE TO BE DRIVING 40MPH!!
ON THE ABOVE DATE, MY VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH AFTER THOROUGH ASSESSMENT BY THE BODY SHOP AND BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY'S FIELD ADJUSTERS, WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. MY VEHICLE'S STEERING SUDDENLY BECAME VERY DIFFICULT DUE TO THE FRONT WHEELS BECOMING SEEMINGLY LOCKED AND STEERING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WAS IMPOSSIBLE. STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN AS WELL. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER. EVERYTHING HAPPENED SO FAST. THERE WAS A LOSS OF CONTROL WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO OVERTURN OR "FLIP". THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UPSIDE DOWN WHEN PASSERSBY AND LAW OFFICIAL ARRIVED.THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF WE'D RECEIVED PRIOR NOTIFICATION. WE KNOW THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THIS YEAR,MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE AND THOSE SIMILAR, HOWEVER WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED BY ANYONE OF SAID RECALLS.THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL, THAT'S HOW BAD IT WAS.BY THE GRACE OF GOD IT WASN'T.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED A VALVE BODY AND OIL COOLER TO CORRECT THE DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AND BRAKING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN THE CONTACT, CAUSING HER TO SUSTAIN A LACERATION THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED A FRACTURED STERNUM AND INTERNAL INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE REAR PASSENGER SUSTAINED FIVE CRACKED RIBS AND A CRACKED STERNUM THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS ALSO INJURED AND REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. TODAY WAS THE SECOND TIME I'VE EXPERIENCED THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF LONG. MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 60 MPH. WHILE I HAD THE GAS PEDAL DOWN COMPLETELY ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, AS THE CAR COULD NOT GAIN SPEED. I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH ALL THE TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY, I HAD TO MERGE OVER TO THE FAR RIGHT FOR SAFETY. I DROVE MY CAR IMMEDIATELY AFTER TO NISSAN SO THEY COULD VERIFY THIS ISSUE. THEY FAILED TO HELP ME IN ANY WAY RECOMMENDING I INVEST IN A CVT COOLER, DUE TO NOT BEING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. A COUPLE MONTHS BACK WHEN THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY I TOOK IT TO NISSAN WITH THE SAME ISSUE, AT THAT TIME THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT DETECT AN ISSUE. BUT NOW MY WARRANTY IS UP THEY'RE SUGGESTING WHAT THE CAR NEEDS. I'M VERY UPSET WITH HOW DANGEROUS THIS CAN BE AND HOW CARELESS NISSAN IS. IT'S LIKE THEY ARE JUST WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO SERIOUSLY BE HURT IN AN ACCIDENT TO THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THE MORNING OF 6/25 ON THE HIGHWAY. MY SUNROOF WAS OPEN AND MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WAS OPEN. I HEARD A LARGE BANG THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT AND TINY PIECES OF SHATTERED GLASS FLEW IN THROUGH MY OPEN SUNROOF. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO MY CAR AND NOTHING THAT HIT MY CAR. MY SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. BECAUSE MY SUNROOF WAS OPEN AT THE TIME THOUSANDS OF PIECES OF GLASS BROKE THROUGHOUT THE ROOF. I AM BRINGING TO NISSAN TOMORROW TO ASSESS DAMAGE TO THE ACTUAL SUNROOF BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE DEALERSHIP.
PURCHASED CAR NEW SEP 2012. ALL MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED SERVICES COMPLETED BY NISSAN DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTERS. CVT TRANSMISSION FAILED JUN 10, 2015. FAILURE CONFIRMED BY TWO DIFFERENT NISSAN SERVICE CENTERS.
CVT BROKE DOWN- WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. RPMS LOCKED APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM IN MAJORITY OF NISSAN ALTIMA 2011-2012 MODELS. RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR PRE2010 MODELS FOR THE SAME THING BUT NOTHING WAS DONE FOR 2011-2012 MODELS, WHICH IS THE ONE I HAVE.
TWICE, I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 75 MPH ON I25 HEADED NORTH. AS I ARRIVED INTO COLORADO SPRINGS, MY VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 30 MPH IN A 65 MPH ZONE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER. I WAITIED FOR ABOUT 15 MIN. STARTED MY VEHICLE UP & STILL IT WOULD ONLY GO 30 MPH. I TURNED AROUND & HEADED BACK FOR PUEBLO. UNSURE & AFRAID THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT MAKE IT HOME. ONCE MY CAR WAS SITTING FOR AN HOUR, THE TRANSMISSION ALLOWED THE SPEED TO RISE ABOVE 30 MPH. THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 6/27/2015. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICILE OUT OF TOWN, IN FEAR OF GETTING STRANDED, THE CAR OVERHEATING & THE MECHANICAL TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONING. THE NISSAN DEALER IN ORDER TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, NEEDS TO INSTALL A "TRANSMISSION COOLING SYSTEM". I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THRU 1ST EXTENDED, OVER $2600.00. THEY REFUSE TO HONOR THE WARRANTY, CLAIMING THE COOLER WAS OT IN THE CAR TO BEGIN WITH. I SPOKE WITH NISSAN & SOUTHWEST MOTORS (WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AROUND 1 1/2 YRS. AGO. THEY'VE BOTH CONFIRMED THAT THIS EXACT PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED IN MANY NISSAN VEHICLES. IF THE WARRANTER IS UNWILLING TO WARRANT THE PROBLEM, WHICH IS A MAJOR MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION, THEN MY 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA NEEDS TO BE RECALLED! PLEASE HELP ME FOR I FEAR THIS PROBLEM IS A SAFETY HAZARD DRIVING ON THE HWY AT A REDUCED SPEED & BECOMING STRANDED.
THE BACK DOORS OF THESE CARS ARE TAKING IN WATER WHEN IT RAINS OR WHEN YOU GO TO CAR WASH.. AS YOU DRIVE YOU COULD HEAR THE WATER SLOSHING IN THE DOORS. YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY OPEN THE DOOR AND USE YOUR HANDS BY PICKING THE RUBBER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DOORS TO LET THE WATER OUT. THEN IT GUSHES OUT LIKE AN OPEN FAUCET.
THE DASH IS MELTING CREATING A SHINY RESIDUE COVERING THE DASH. WHEN THE SUN OR BRIGHT LIGHTS GUYS AT NIGHT IS SHINING THE SHINY DASH REFLECTS ON THE WINDSHIELD CREATING A GLARE THAT OBSTRUCTS YOUR VISION WHILE DRIVING OR TURNING ON ANY HIGHWAY OR ROAD. THE SERVICE DEPT AT MY LOCAL DEALER TOOK PHOTOS AND SENT IT TO NISSAN ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING. IT IS GETTING SO BADD THAT WHILE DRIVING IT HAS STARTED OBSTRUCTING THE VISION OF THE ROADWAY.

The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics after purchasing the vehicle and the mass air flow, spark plugs, sensor coils, and other various engine parts and catalytic converters were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD CAN CORRODE CAUSING A RATTLE DURING ACCELERATION AND POSSIBLY CAUSING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATION. THE COMMON REPAIR FOR THIS ISSUE IS REPLACEMENT OF THE DAMAGED CATALYTIC CONVERTER. IF LEFT UNNOTICED MAY DIG INTO THE ENGINE OR FLY OFF ONTO A MOTORIST. *TR
WAS DRIVING ALONG 15 FREEWAY SOUTHBOUND IN LAS VEGAS GETTING READY TO EXIT FLAMINGO AT AROUND 7:30 PM. ROAD WAS CLEAR. ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEAR A LOUD NOISE THAT SOUND LIKE IT' CAME FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR UNDERNEATH. AS I EXIT FLAMINGO MY WIFE AND I START TO SMELL GAS BUT WE THINK IT MAY BE BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY CAR'S OUT ON THE ROAD. WHEN CONTINUE DRIVING TO OUR HOTEL (BALLY'S) AND PULL IN TO VALET. I ASK THE VALET DRIVER IF HE SMELLS GAS AND HE SAYS YES IT PRETTY STRONG TOO, MY WIFE HEARS DRIPPING AND LOOKS OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SEE GAS POURING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. THE TELL ME TO PULL THE CAR TO THE BACK TO PARK SO THAT IT CAN BE TOWED AWAY AND THE GAS CAN BE CLEANED UP BY HASMAT. I PARK THE CAR AND WATCH FOR A WHILE AS GAS IS JUST POURING FROM THE TANK. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE ROAD, I DIDN'T RUN OVER ANYTHING I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TANK.. HAD IT TOWED TO AUTONATION NISSAN IN LAS VEGAS AND THEY SAID THE TANK WAS PUNCTURED SOME HOW. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND ENGINE JUST CUT OFF COMPLETELY WITH NO SYSTEM WARNINGS OR ANYTHING. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FLUKE AND SOMETHING I HAD DONE. CAR STARTED BACK IMMEDIATELY. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON 2 OTHER OCCASIONS. CAR WAS TAKEN TO REPAIR SHOP WERE NOTHING WAS FOUND WRONG. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE CONNECTION. UNSURE IF THE TWO ARE RELATED. NEEDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION AS THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. *TR

CVT TRANSMISSION WAS BUILT POORLY, THE TRANSMISSION IS SLOWLY DESTROYING ITSELF CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER, HIGH PITCHED WHINING NOISE AND EVENTUALLY FAIL. THE DATE I SELECTED FOR WHEN IT HAPPENED IS THE DATE I NOTICED THE ISSUE ON MY VEHICLE.
HELLO THERE I HAVE A NISSAN ALTIMA AND TOOK IT TO GET A DIAGNOSIS AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION/OCS SENSOR. THEY SAID WE BROKE THE SENSOR WITH A WATER BOTTLE. I SAID OKAY BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW BETTER. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT THE SENSOR IS INSIDE THE CUSHION SEAT SO HOW COULD A WATER BOTTLE REACH THAT SENSOR. IT DOESN'T ITS SELF EXPLANATORY THEIR CAR CAME DEFECTIVE. I'M PARALYZED FROM THE WAIST DOWN. IF I GET IN AN ACCIDENT THE ONES THAT ARE GOING TO BE HELP RESPONSIBLE IS NISSAN BECAUSE THEY SOLD ME A DEFECTIVE CAR. I HAVE THE RIGHT TO FILE ACTION AGAINST YOUR GUYS BEHALF. ENGINE QUIT WHILE DRIVING, BRAKES FAILED, STEERING LOCKED UP A DEADLY SITUATION. DEALER CLAIMS IT WAS DUE TO A LOOSE BATTERY CABLE. IF SO A LOOSE BATTERY CABLE COULD KILL YOU OR OTHERS. *TR
DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT DISENGAGE 5 TIMES IN TWO YEARS. MOST RECENT ON THURSDAY FOR FORTY MINUTES! PRETTY SURE IT'S A COLD WEATHER ISSUE, BUT DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD. ESPECIALLY FOR A 67 YEAR-OLD, ARTHRITIC, 260LB. SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD WHO TOOK 5 MINUTES TO GET UP AND OVER THE CONSOLE AND FINALLY FORCE HIS WAY OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR! IT WAS ONLY A COUPLE DEGREES BELOW ZERO, SO I'M A LITTLE SURPRISED IT TOOK 40 MINUTES FOR THE DRIVER'S DOOR TO UNLOCK. I LEAVE THE DOOR UNLOCKED OVERNIGHT, BUT WHEN I LEAVE FOR SCHOOL IN THE MORNING, THE DARN DOORS LOCK AUTOMATICALLY AT 15MPH AND I CAN'T GET OUT ONCE I REACH MY DESTINATION! SO I WENT TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND PAID 51 SIMOLEONS TO HAVE THE AUTO DOORLOCK MECHANISM DISABLED! GOTTA BE A BETTER WAY! *TR
MY 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ALTIMA WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AT AN ESTIMATED SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH WITHOUT BRAKING (STATED BY POLICE) THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR SEAT BELT FAILED TO SECURE AND THE PASSENGER'S HEAD WAS THROWN BACK AND FORTH STRIKING BOTH THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEAD REST AS WELL AS THE REAR PASSENGER'S HEAD REST. THE PASSENGER WAS EVALUATED IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM DIAGNOSIS "CERVICAL SPRAIN AND A CLOSED HEAD INJURY". PASSENGER #2 WAS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WHEN THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. PASSENGER'S GLASSES WERE KNOCKED OFF OF HER FACE DUE TO FORCE OF IMPACT AND AS A RESULT OF PASSENGER'S HEAD HITTING THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW SEVERAL TIMES RESULTING IN CLOSED HEAD INJURY, NECK AND BACK SPRAIN. *TR

EMBANKMENT INTO A CREEK. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND HE HAD TO BE EXTRICATED FROM THE VEHICLE. HE SUFFERED THE FOLLOWING INJURIES: - 2 BROKEN VERTEBRA IN HIS NECK - BROKEN CLAVICLE - 4 BROKEN RIBS - COLLAPSED LUNGS - LACERATION ON HIS UPPER LEFT ARM. *TR
BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO 4 SEIZED BRAKE CALIPERS. MY WIFE WAS UNABLE TO STOP COMPLETELY AT A BUSY INTERSECTION ENTERING ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANES. NO CARS WERE PRESENT OR SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT, BUT VERY SCARY FOR MY WIFE. ALL FOUR ROTORS SHOWED ONLY A THIN STRIPE OF PAD CONTACT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROTOR. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL AND NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY DUE TO CORROSION OF THERE CALIPERS. CAR HAD BEEN IN THERE REPAIR SHOP 7 MONTHS EARLIER. ROTOR DEGLAZING WAS RECOMMENDED BUT NOTHING WAS SAID ABOUT THE BRAKES CALIPERS SEIZING AND BRAKE FAILURE. DEGLAZING OF ROTORS WOULD HAVE BEEN AT MY EXPENSE AND I FELT THIS WAS THE DEALERSHIPS RESPONSIBILITY IF THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. BEING UNAWARE OF THE SEVERITY OF THIS "COMMON" PROBLEM I ELECTED TO PASS. NEVER DID ANYBODY STATE THAT THIS COULD LEAD TO TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE AND WAS ANYTHING BUT DEGLAZING OF THE ROTORS, A DEALER ADD ON EXPENSE. SPOKE TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE THOUGHT IT WAS UNNECESSARY. I HAD TO REPLACE ALL FOR ROTORS AND PADS, THEY CLEANED UP THE CALIPERS AND SAID THEY SHOULD BE FINE. HOW WILL I KNOW IF THEY ARE FINE OR NOT? MUST I HAVE BRAKE FAILURE AGAIN TO FIND OUT THEY WERE WRONG? I DO NOT TRUST THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE, THEY SHOULD NOT SEIZE UP ON A 2 1/2 YR OLD CAR THAT'S KEPT IN A HEATED GARAGE DAILY. THEY STATED IT WAS BECAUSE OF MY LOCATION, UPSTATE NEW YORK, AND THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THE BRAKES SYSTEM IN SUCH A HARSH ENVIRONMENT. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF BRAKES RUSTING AND SEIZING BEFORE ON ANY VEHICLE THIS NEW WITH SUCH FEW MILES. THE MANUFACTURER USES INFERIOR MATERIALS TO BUILD ITS PARTS AND ITS THE CONSUMERS RESPONSIBILITY TO BE AWARE OF THIS? THE HOOD RELEASE ON THESE CARS IS DOWN UNDER THE DASH, WHERE IT CAN EASILY BE PULLED WITH THE TOE OF YOUR SHOE. IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, BUT MY WIFE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE CAR AND HEARD IT POP. THIS DAY, WE WERE ON OUR WAY HOME FROM CHURCH. MADE IT ALL THE WAY ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND REACHED 70 MPH, SPEED LIMIT ON THAT HIGHWAY IS 75 MPH. I GOT THE FLASH CODES AND DID A BIT OF RESEARCH, HERE IS WHAT I FOUND. 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN - TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH CIRCUIT INTERMITTENT PAUSIBLE CAUSES: - FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE - TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE HARNESS IS OPEN OR SHORTED - TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE CIRCUIT POOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTION - LOW TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL - DIRTY TRANSMISSION FLUID I HAVE TO PULL OVER FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES THEN START MY CARE FOR THE SENSOR TO RESET SO THAT I CAN DRIVE MY DESIRED SPEED LIMIT. ONCE IT GETS HOT THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO DRIVE MORE THAN 60-65MPH. THE DEALER SAYS I NEED TO NEW TRANSMISSION. I HAVE 95,000 MILES ON MY 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 S AND IS ALREADY HAVING PROBLEMS. IT'S DIFFICULT FOR ME TO TRAVEL AS MUCH BECAUSE OF THESE ISSUES. AFTER AN HOUR OF DRIVING, MY TRANSMISSION WHINES AND MY SPEED LIMIT DROPS WHEN DRIVING THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND DEADLY. THIS VEHICLE HAS LOST POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 3 TIMES NOW. JUST DRIVING ALONG AND IT JUST STARTS SLOWING DOWN ON ITS OWN. RUNNING 70MPH AND IT JUST LOSES POWER AND IT SLOWS TO AROUND 25MPH. YOU MASH THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND IT HAS NO EFFECT, IT WILL NOT INCREASE SPEED. YOU PULL OVER, SHOUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART AND IT RUNS FINE AGAIN. YOU GET NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO CODES. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY, ALTHOUGH THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM SOFTWARE MALFUNCTIONED AND THE SEAT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V138000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,500.
I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 17 GOING UPHILL WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR WENT INTO WHAT IS KNOWN AS "LIMP MODE"(LOSS OF POWER). MY SPEED DROPPED TO 25 MPH. I HAD NUMEROUS TRUCKS ALMOST REAR END ME, UNTIL I COULD LIMP ONTO THE SHOULDER. I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO A NISSAN DEALER IN FLAGSTAFF AZ. WHEN I GOT THERE HE POINTED TO FOUR OTHER VEHICLES AND SAID TO ME "WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO YOU, HAPPENED TO THOSE OTHER 4 NISSANS RIGHT THERE". I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER " YOU NEED A TRANSMISSION COOLER INSTALLED BECAUSE OF THE HOT CLIMATE WE LIVE IN THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, THE TRANSMISSION GETS OVERHEATED, IT'S A DEFECT NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR AWHILE NOW". I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL SOMEONE GETS KILLED WHEN THEIR CAR LOOSES POWER ON AN INTERSTATE. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS ONLY TO BE TOLD "SINCE NO CODE POPPED UP NOTHING CAN BE DONE". THE POWER TRAIN IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. ON MONDAY NIGHT AT 12:00AM I WAS DRIVING FROM CALIFORNIA TO LAS VEGAS NEVADA. I WAS GOING 75 MILES AN HOUR WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO LOOSE SPEED. THE EXCEL-ORATOR WOULD NOT MOVE AND HAD LOCKED.THE CAR SPEED HAD DROPPED TO 40MPH AND WOULD NOT MOVE. THERE WAS A SEMI IN FRONT OF ME AND TWO OTHER VEHICLES TO THE SIDE OF ME. I ALMOST GOT INTO A BIG ACCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE. TERRIFIED, I BEGAN TO PANIC SO I SHUT THE CAR OFF. I DROVE THE NEXT 60 MILES TO VEGAS GOING 30MPH THE CAR WOULD NOT GO TO A HIGHER SPEED. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WAS A SAFETY FEATURE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW A SAFETY FEATURE WOULD DELIBERATELY JEOPARDIZE THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVER. IT IS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR FEAR THAT THIS MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 70 MPH AND WERE UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. ACCELERATOR PEDDLE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE MOST WE COULD GO WAS 45 MPH. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT IT WAS THE SHIFT SELECT ASSEMBLY THAT HAD BROKEN/MALFUNCTIONED AND THE CAR HAD GONE IN TO FAILURE MODE. THERE WAS NOT WARNING LIGHT AT ALL AND THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS ON THE INTERSTATE. FIRST I FEEL THAT THIS PART OF THE CAR SHOULD NEVER HAVE BROKEN IN A 2-YEAR OLD CAR AND I HAVE TO WONDER IF THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE PART FOR THIS MODEL YEAR OF THE ALTIMA. SECOND, IF AND WHEN THIS PIECE DOES BREAK OR MALFUNCTION, THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH TO MAKE THE DRIVER AWARE AND PULL OVER. ALL FOUR DOORS OF THE "DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR" FAILED. NEED TO USE KEY ONLY REPLACED TWO WHICH ALSO FAILED. ( 12 MONTHS WARRANTY) CONCERN RELATED TO THE ELECTRICAL INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE. WHAT ELSE MAY FAIL WHILE DRIVING.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKE AT LOW SPEEDS (10-30 MPH) THE BRAKE GRABBED AND THREW OCCUPANTS FORWARD. ON ONE OCCASION THE WHEELS FROZE WITH BRAKE PEDAL ONLY 20% DEPRESSED. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT REPEATABLE. DEALER CLAIMS IT IS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER. VERY DANGEROUS FAILURE MODE. NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. *TR
