ERRATIC GAS GAUGE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. SAME ISSUE HAS RECALL ON 2006 AND ABOVE NISSAN FRONTIERS. HAS TO BE SAME ISSUE WITH SENDING UNIT USED IN 2005. TSB IS OPEN TO INCLUDE 2005 VEHICLES
I HAVE REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH CAR STALLING. THEY'VE REPLACED THE CAMSHAFT AND CRANK SHAFT SENSORS BUT IT KEEPS COMING BACK. I KNOW THERE'S A RECALL ON OTHER NISSAN FRONTIERS WITH ECM PROBLEMS AND THINK MINE COULD BE AFFECTED.. IT'S NOT INCLUDED IN THE REALL HOWEVER.
TWICE MY CAR HAS STALLED WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY BOTH TIMES IN SITUATIONS THAT I COULD GLIDE OFF THE ROAD SAFELY IN LITHE TRAFFIC AND AT LOW SPEED. IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT HIGH SPEED THESE INCIDENTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. RESEARCH SHOWS THE FAILURE IS LIKELY THE ECM RELAY IN THE IPDM OR THE WHOLE IPDM ITSELF. A NEW RELAY ($4 FROM THE DEALER) MAY FIX IT OR A WHOLE IPDM ASSEMBLY ($595 FROM DEALER) MAY BE NEEDED. NISSAN HAS REDESIGNED THE IPDM ASSEMBLY. THAT TELLS YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THE ORIGINAL PARTS RELIABILITY. HOW IS NISSAN GETTING AWAY WITHOUT RECALLING THIS DANGEROUS FAILING ELECTRICAL CONTROL PART?
TRUCK CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING NO MATTER WHAT SPEED YOUR AT. HAVE TO WAIT A FEW SECONDS TO GET IT TO START AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. AFTER THE DRIVER PARKED THE VEHICLE, SMOKE EMITTED UNDER THE HOOD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS PLUG CONNECTED TO THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
MY 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER WILL STALL OUT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT HAS HAPPENED GOING SLOW AND FAST. THE TRUCK WILL BE RUNNING FINE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO ALMOST BE IN SEVERAL CRASHES. I CAN PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND IT WILL CRANK BACK UP SOMETIMES TAKING SEVERAL TRY'S. I HAVE REPLACED THE ECM RELAY AND DID NOT HELP. THIS SEEMS TO BE A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM THAT CAN GET PEOPLE KILLED. THE TRUCK HAS CUT OFF AT RED LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS. I HAVE BEEN GOING 70MPH ON THE INTER STATE AND THE TRUCK CUTS OFF. THE TRUCK HAS LOST POWER IN A TURN CAUSING IT TO BE REALLY HARD TO TURN. THE WORST IS PULLING OUT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND MY TRUCK JUST CUTS OFF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON DASH LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. ALL REQUIRED SERVICE WORK HAS BEEN PERFORMED AS THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES. I JUST HAD THE 75,000 SERVICE PERFORMED AT 76,230, AND AT THAT TIME THE SERVICE LIGHT WAS STAYING ON. THE MECHANIC (NOT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP) DID GET THE LIGHT TO GO OFF, BUT WITHIN TWO WEEKS IT CAME BACK ON AGAIN AND STAYS ON. GOING BACK TO THE SAME MECHANIC TO SEE WHAT HE STATES, BUT HAS NISSAN HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS LIGHT. THAT IS MY COMPLAINT AS IT COST ME A FEW BUCKS TO HAVE LIGHT SHUT OFF, BUT IT APPEARS THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THAT PARTICULAR LIGHT. LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS DID NOT WORK, CHECKED ALL FUSES AND RELAYS INCLUDING LOW BEAM, AND ECM, THE WHOLE IPDM MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
MY CAR STARTS AND IDLE BUT DO NOT ACCELERATE THE IPDM IS NOT WORKING PERFECTLY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40MPH MY FRONTIER SUDDENLY CUT OFF , HAD NO BRAKES OR POWER STEERING. I WENT OFF THE ROAD AND HIT SOME TREES. MY INSURANCE FIXED MY TRUCK, EVEN AFTER I TOLD THEM AND THE BODY SHOP I WANTED IT CHECKED OUT FIRST. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL WITH A DEFECTIVE ECM RELAY. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME MY RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. NISSAN SAID I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND DID NOTHING TO HELP BUT REPLACE THE PART THAT CAUSED MY ACCIDENT. THE LEAK/ RUPTURED PART SEEMS LIKE IT WAS FROM THE ACCIDENT BUT MY INSURANCE AND NISSAN BOTH ARE LEAVING ME OUT ON MY OWN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER AND ALMOST STALLED. THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, APPROX. 50MPH. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, THE SES LIGHT AND SLIP LIGHT CAME ON. THIS VEHICLE WAS COVERED BY A RECALL FOR THE ECM THAT CAUSED A SIMILAR ISSUE. THE ECM WAS REPLACED BY A CERTIFIED NISSAN SERVICE CENTER. THE REPLACEMENT WAS DONE 12/29/10. NOW, IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. A BIT OF RESEARCH SHOWS THAT NISSAN HAS ISSUED A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR CAMSHAFT SENSORS THAT CAUSE A VERY SIMILAR PROBLEM. HOWEVER, BECAUSE MY VIN IS NOT CURRENTLY UNDER THAT RECALL, I CAN'T HAVE NISSAN REPLACE THEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER THEN STALLS WHILE TRAVELING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT 50-60 MPH. THAT CAN CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND AFFECT NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT OTHERS. I FEEL NISSAN SHOULD EXPAND THEIR RECALL TO INCLUDE NISSAN FRONTIERS, NOT JUST ALTIMA, ETC. NISSAN HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND THEY HAVE OPENED A CASE FILE #[XXX]. NO RESOLUTION HAS BEEN OFFERED BY THEM. VEHICLE WILL STALL WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND NOT RESTART FOR A FEW MINUTES. MOTOR ACTS LIKE IT'S NOT GETTING ENOUGH GAS, LIGHTS ON DASH FLASH. ISSUE IS WITH IDPM MODULE. THE ENTIRE IPDM HAS TO BE CHANGED, RELAYS ARE BURNING UP DUE TO CIRCUITRY IN THE UNIT HAVING TOO HIGH OF RESISTANCE, NOT BEING ABLE TO CARRY ENOUGH CURRENT. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, WHEN MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY, I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM TOWN WHEN MY TRUCK DIED. IT TOOK ME A FEW MINUTES TO GET IT TO START. I HAD THE OIL CHANGED THURSDAY. ON MY WAY HOME, I RAN BY THE LOCAL AUTOZONE, TO HAVE MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CHECKED OUT. IT SHOWED UP THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS OUT. WHILE LOOKING THROUGH THE WEB, I SEE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP. *TR
ON JULY 5TH, 2013 MY WIFE WAS ON HIGHWAY I45 IN NORTH DIRECTION AND AFTER FM1960 THE VEHICLE ENGINE HESITATED AND DIED. SHE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL THE TRUCK FROM FIRST LINE ON LEFT TO THE LAST ON RIGHT ( HIGHWAY WITH TOTAL 4 LINES MAYBE). AND THEN TO THE EMERGENCY LINE . BRAKES AND STEERING CONTROL BECAME HARDER THAN NORMAL AND SHE WAS SCARED OF LOSING CONTROL OF VEHICLE. SOME BODY ELSE PICKED ME UP AT HERMAN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AT THE WOODLANDS AND WE WENT TO MEET HER. WE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE ENGINE CRANKED BUT NO START. MY FINAL DIAGNOSTIC WAS PROBABLE SHE RAN OUT OF GAS EVEN WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE WAS SHOWING ALMOST HALF TANK. WE WENT TO GET ONE GALLON TO THE GAS STATION, POURED ON THE TRUCK AND AT THE SECOND TRY IT STARTED. IN THE WAY BACK WE FILLED THE FUEL TANK . THE FUEL GUN AT GAS STATION STOPPED AUTOMATICALLY BUT THE GAUGE INDICATED LESS THAN HALF TANK. THIS WAS A SCARY EXPERIENCE THAT COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH ALSO SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. I CALLED TODAY JULY 6, 2013 TO NISSAN SERVICE AT TOM PEACKOCK IN I45 AND THEY CHECKED MY VIN # SAYING THAT NO WARRANTY APPLIES TO FIX IT. THEY SAID NOBODY WAS ABLE AT THE MOMENT TO CHECK THE PRICE OF FUEL SENDING UNIT WHICH SUSPECTED BE FAULTY. AN ESTIMATE OF COST OF REPAIR IS AROUND $600 , THE PERSON ON THE PHONE SAID. I WILL CALL BACK THIS COMING MONDAY TO RE-VERIFY THIS ISSUE AND THE PART AVAILABILITY. I SUBMIT THIS BECAUSE I CONSIDER IT A SAFETY TO CUSTOMER AND OTHER PEOPLE ISSUE . I HAVE READ ABOUT RECALLS ON THIS ITEM BUT NISSAN ANSWER WAS A NEGATIVE OR DENIED REQUEST TO PROCEED AS A RECALL ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH A POPPING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND SMOKE STARTED BEGAN TO RISE FROM UNDER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE, BUT THE ORIGIN WAS UNKNOWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A JUNK YARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
I OWNS A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START MY VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AND STILL WOULD NOT START, I WAITED A FEW MINUTES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED HER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RELATED RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER IPDM MODULE DEFECTIVE CAUSING CAR TO SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES IN TRAFFIC. CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENT AS THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AT ANY SPEED IN WHICH YOU CAN NO LONGER HAVE THE ABILITY TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. AS A CONSEQUENCE, OTHER CARS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO OR HAVE THE TIME TO MOVE AROUND YOUR VEHICLE IN TIME. THERE ARE GREAT NUMBERS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME IPDM ISSUE ON MANY NISSANS ON THE INTERNET. THIS IS COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS OR SOMEONE LOOSING THEIR LIFE.
