I PURCHASED MY TRUCK FROM THE NISSAN DEALER IN 2006 AND RECENTLY NOTICED THAT THE FRONT TIRES WERE WORN RATHER BADLY. I THOUGHT THIS WAS UNUSUAL SINCE I HAD LESS THAN 35,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO SEARS AND ASKED THEM TO ALIGN THE WHEELS AND ROTATE THE TIRES. SEARS COULD NOT DO THE ALIGNMENT BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER AND INSTALL SOME PARTS THAT WERE NOT ON THE TRUCK AT MANUFACTURING. I CALLED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA TO FIND OUT IF THIS WAS NECESSARY AND WAS TOLD THAT FOR CERTAIN MAKE OF VEHICLES THIS WAS TRUE. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO ALIGN THE WHEELS TO RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS. ACCORDING TO SEARS, SINCE THE CAMBERS AND CASTERS WERE NOT WITHIN RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATION, TIRE WEAR, HANDLING AND SAFETY PROBLEMS MAY RESULT. I FEEL THAT THE NECESSARY PARTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED DURING MANUFACTURING TO AVOID ANY POSSIBLE ACCIDENTS DUE TO PREMATURE TIRE WEAR. THE NISSAN DEALER SHOULD INSTALL THE NECESSARY PARTS FOR FREE AND NISSAN SHOULD NOTIFY ANY VEHICLE OWNERS AFFECTED BY THIS DEFICIENCY WHICH MIGHT CAUSE HANDLING AND SAFETY PROBLEMS. *KB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE VEHICLE HAS COOPER TIRES, TIRE LINE DOMINATOR ALL SEASON, TIRE SIZE 235\75\15. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITONS; THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, THE FRONT DRIVER TIRE EXHIBITED COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION AND THE STEEL BELT WAS EXPOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE SHOP. THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW TIRE AND THE TIRES WERE ROTATED. THERE WAS A SEPARATE OCCASION WITH FAILURE OF THE FRONT DRIVER DEFECTIVE TIRE WHICH EXHIBITED COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION; AND A SIDEWALL BLOW OUT OCCURRED. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,117. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,350.
WE PURCHASED A USED 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER WITH NISMO PACKAGE THAT HAD 32,000 MILES ON IT. BY THE TIME IT HAD 36,000 MILES, THE TRUCK SEIZED ON THE HIGHWAY. WE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND WAS TOLD ALL OF THE OIL HAD LEAKED OUT OF THE TRANSFER CASE AND THE BEARINGS/SEALS WERE BROKEN. ALSO, THAT SEVERAL OF THE TRANSFER CASE BOLTS WERE MISSING BEFORE IT WAS TAKEN APART FOR INSPECTION. AFTER WAITING 3 WEEKS FOR THE PARTS TO COME IN, WE PURCHASED NEW TIRES. THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT DID NOT RESET ON THE DASH BOARD AND STILL TELLS US THE AIR PRESSURE NEEDS TO BE CHECKED EVEN THOUGH WE PAID FOR NITROGEN THAT SUPPOSEDLY KEEPS THE AIR PRESSURE CONSTANT. *TR
1. THE EVENT WAS DRIVING NORTHWEST OUT OF TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI, APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON ROUTE 78 WHICH IS A 4 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY. 2. THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE OUT OF TRAFFIC & ONTO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WITHOUT COLLISION OR INJURY TO OURSELVES OR OTHERS. UPON INSPECTION THE WHEEL HAD SPLIT IN HALF AND SOME OF THE LUG BOLTS HAD ACTUALLY SHEARED OFF. THE VEHICLE IS A NEW NISSAN FRONTIER PICKUP TRUCK WHICH WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JANUARY, 2007. IT HAD LESS THAN 17,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD RECEIVED ROUTINE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE SERVICE PERFORMED BY NISSAN DEALERS/SERVICE DEPARTMENTS. THE LAST SERVICE WAS PERFORMED AT APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES AND INCLUDED TIRE ROTATION. 3. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS WAS CONTACTED, CONDUCTED AN INVESTIGATION & DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NOT MECHANICAL FAILURE. THEY DID NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION OF WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE & COULD NOT HAVE HAD TIME TO DO METALLURGICAL TESTS ON THE COMPONENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALER IN TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI, AND THEY WERE ADVISED TO SAVE ALL OLD PARTS. I WAS ABLE TO FIND ONE HALF OF THE SPLIT WHEEL WHICH IS IN THE POSSESSION OF THE DEALER AT THIS TIME. NISSAN HAS SAID THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR EXPENSE OF PARTS & REPAIRS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER (10V075000-FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILIARY TANK). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED; HOWEVER, IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER THE FAILURE RECURRED. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR GAUGE HAD MALFUNCTIONED SINCE THE DAY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO FAILED WHEN THE VEHICLE STALED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO GET IT RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,000.
