2000 MAXIMA HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY. *TS THE AC COMPRESSOR WAS REPLACED. THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING ALL 6 COILS, BECAUSE IT COULD NOT BE DETERMINE WHICH COILS WERE DEFECTIVE. *JB
THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE IGNITION COIL WAS DEFECTIVE. *JB
WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY VEHICLE DECELERATED. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AT 15 MPH TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST. VEHICLE WAS AT THE TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST FOR 2 WEEKS, AND THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
MY 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED VIBRATING REALLY BADLLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR AND TURNING BACK ON THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY, BUT I HAD IT TOWED TO NISSAN DEALER AND THEY LATER DIAGNOSIED IT AS A BAD IGITION COIL. THIS HAPPENED AT 40,000 MILES AND NOW AT 67000 THE SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURING AGAIN. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE WEB AND NOTICED MAY OWNERS OF NISSAN HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT'S FRUSTRATING THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN MADE. IT'S A SAFEFY HAZZARD WHEN THE COIL GOES BAD WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE NO FAITH IN NISSAN AND LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING ANOTHER QUALITY CAR. IT WON'T BE A NISSAN!!!!!*AK

PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S IGNITION COILS. *MR *SC THE REPAIR COST THE CONSUMER $740.00 DOLLARS. *JB
MY 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA CONSOLE IS "SOFT" AND SIDE DOOR CONSOLE PANELS. I READ WHERE OTHER 2000 MAXIMA'S HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT'S NOT DUE TO EXTREME HEAT OR ANYTHING. NUMEROUS COMMENTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WHEN I GOOGLE IT. THIS MORNING I TOOK AN ALCOHOL SWAB AND BLACK PAINT RUBBED OFF OF THIS AREA ON DOOR WHERE MOLDING FOR OPENING AN CLOSING/LOCKING DOOR. EACH MORNING WHEN I GET INTO MY CAR WHICH IS HOUSED IN A GARAGE THE INSIDE SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING BURNT. NEVER REALLY CONNECTED THIS WITH THE SOFT CONSOLE ARE UNTIL I READ ABOUT OTHERS COMMENTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. ONE GUY EVEN CONTACTED NISSAN PRESIDENT AND NOTHING WAS DONE. PLEASE ADVISE THE CORRECT WAY TO SEE IF THERE'S A RECALL WHICH MY RESEARCH DIDN'T FIND ONE.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS TOLD I HAD A ERROR CODE 1320 AND THAT 1 OF THE IGNITION COILS WAS BAD BUT THAT THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO PINPOINT WHICH COIL WAS BAD SO THEY HAD TO CHANGE ALL SIX COILS AT A COST OF $499. I WENT ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND NOTICED THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR IGNITION COIL AND HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS. I CALLED NISSAN AND SPOKE TO A REP WICH TOLD ME THAT SINCE I HAVE A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THIS PROBLEM IS NOT COVERED.*AK
WE HAD BEEN SMELLING GASOLINE INSIDE THE CAR FOR ABOUT A DAY. WHEN WE STARTED THE CAR IN THE MORNING THERE WAS A LITTLE DIFFICULTY STARTING THE CAR. WE BACKED OUT AND NOTICED SOME LIQUID IN OUR PARKING SPACE. UPON CHECKING THE LIQUID SMELLED LIKE GASOLINE. WHEN I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD, THERE WAS A GASOLINE LEAK WHEN WE STARTED THE CAR (SPRAYING ALL OVER THE ENGINE). THE INJECTOR FUEL LINE WHERE IT GOES INTO THE FUEL RAIL WAS LEAKING AT THE CRIMP CLAMP. THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES. (WE WERE AT THE END OF A WEEKS VACATION IN ARIZONA). WE THOUGHT WE FOUND A USED PART BUT IT WAS THE WRONG ONE. FINALLY, AFTER WE HAD TO RENT A CAR TO COME HOME, NISSAN SAID IT WOULD BE SHIPPING THE PART TO OUR MECHANIC'S DISTRIBUTOR AND WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN 5 - 10 DAYS. I HAD TO TAKE A BUS BACK TO ARIZONA TO PICK UP THE CAR. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHE IF THE CAR HAD CAUGHT FIRE OR IF WE WERE IN A DESOLATE OR PRECARIOUS AREA WHERE WE HAD BEEN EARLIER THAT WEEK. *AK
CAR RAN ROUGH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALER SAID ALL COILS NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOT UNDER WARRANTY. OVER $600 FOR THIS . CALLED NISSAN DIRECT. THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS EVEN THOUGH THEY SAID THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN MAXIMA !
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S IGNITION COILS, BRAKE CALIPER, PADS AND ROTORS.*MR THE VEHICLE IGNITION COIL FAILED AT 37000 MILES. ALL SIX COILS WERE REPLACED. ONE WEEK LATER THE LEFT REAR BRAKE CALIPER LOCKED UP. ALL FOUR ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED AT 36200 MILES. THE CONSUMER FEELS THE REPAIRS MAY HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER A SERVICE BULLETIN 624020 FOR THE IGNITION AND SERVICE BULLETIN 618790 FOR THE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER SEEKS REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. *NM
IGNITION COILS FAILED AT 30,000 MILES. SPOKE WITH DEALER WHO ADVISED IT IS HAPPENING ON SIMILAR VEHICLES. ENGINE MISFIRING, LOSS OF POWER. DEALER WANTED ME TO REPLACE ALL IGNITION COILS AND PAY $700 FOR IT. MY EXTENDED BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY REFUSED TO COVER, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT PRESENT, HENCE, NO COMPUTER CODES GENERATED BY THE CAR COMPUTER. *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINOUSLY COMES ON, HAD OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACED, STILL COMES ON WITH VARIOUS CODES. *AK
MY NISSAN 2000 HAS SIMILAR PROBLEMS WHICH OTHERS HAVE,IGNITION COILS AND OXYGEN SENSOR. MY CAR HAS ONLY 48000 MILES ON IT. ALL SIX COIL HAS BEEN REPLACED BY NISSAN DEALER AND IT COST ME $500. MANUFACTURER TRANSMISSION WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER EVEN THOUGH IT IS PART OF TRANSMISSION. NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THIS PROBLEM AND REIMBURSE CONSUMER MONEY. *NM
I AM CONTACTING THE NHTSA IN REGARDS TO TSB # NTB01-076B AFFECTING 2000-2001 MAXIMAS INVOLVING THE EGI HARNESS BREAKAGE. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT NISSAN'S HOME DIVISION VIA E-MAIL ON 3 SEPERATE OCCASIONS WITH NO RESPONSE/REPLY BACK FROM THEIR HEADQUARTERS. THIS PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED ON MY VEHICLE LAST YEAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. UPON TAKING IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING PROBLEM AND MANY HARNESSES HAVE BEEN REPLACED, BUT AT THE COST OF THE CONSUMER RANGING FROM $1,500-3,000 (DEPENDING ON THE DEALERSHIP). I HAVE NOW PERSONALLY HAD MY CAR OVERHEAT AND SHUTDOWN ON THREE SEPERATE OCCASIONS, THE MOST RECENT NEARLY BEING A SEVERE ACCIDENT IF NOT DUE TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DRIVERS INVOLVED. NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS TO AN EFFECTED NISSAN THE OUTCOME MAY NOT BE SO MINOR. I CONTINUE TO HAVE SLOW OR DELAYED SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR OR FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR, PARTICULARLY AT HALF THROTTLE. IT HAS BEEN THAT WAS SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. THE SLOW RESPONSE AND HESITATION HAS RESULTED NEAR STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS. NO ACCIDENTS, HOWEVER, I AM CONCERNED.*AK
MY 6 IGNITION COILS WENT AT 56K MILES. THIS COST ME 826 DOLLARS. IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S A BIG ENOUGH PROBLEM THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *JB
THE OXYEN SENSORS HAVE FAILED ALMOST CONTINUOUSLY SINCE PURCHASING THIS CAR. I'VE LOST TRACK OF THE NUMBER OF TIME THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR THE OXYGEN SENSORS, BUT IT'S AROUND 7 OR 8. THE DATE BELOW IS ONLY THE MOST RECENT OCCURENCE OF THE 'SERVICE ENGINE' LIGHT COMING ON DUE TO THE OXYGEN SENSOR. NUMEROUS OTHER NISSAN'S HAVE HAD OXYGEN SENSOR RECALLS AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS MODEL SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED ALSO.
THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT TURNED ON WHILE DRIVING AND HAS REMAINED ON. WHEN I FIRST TOOK IT IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTS I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A TUNE UP. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS RESET AND CAME ON AGAIN AFTER ONLY ONE DAY. I RECENTLY TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND P1320 WAS DETECTED AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY IGNITION COILS WERE BAD. DEALER RECOMMENDS REPLACING ALL 6 COILS AS THEY CAN'T DETERMINE WHICH COIL IS ACTUALLY BAD. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND THAT THIS IS THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE DEALER ADVISED ME THAT THE PARTS ARE VERY COSTLY AT LEAST $75 FOR EACH COIL, PLUS LABOR. THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE SAFE AS THE CAR DRIVES NORMAL, AND THEN WILL EVENTUALLY SPUTTER, AND VIBRATE RESULTING IN DECREASED SPEED. THE ENGINE FEELS LIKE IT IS ABOUT TO FALL OUT, AND YOU CAN'T PICK UP SPEED UNTIL THE VIBRATION STOPS. THIS PART NEEDS TO BE RECALLED, THERE HAVE BEEN TOO MANY CONSUMERS HAVING TO PAY THE PRICE FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PART. *AK
REPLACEMENT OF (6) ENGINE COILS ON THE CAR WITH 56,035 MILES. COST & 754.72. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM 09/06/2001. AFTER RESEARCHING, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM - NISSAN HAS DESIGNED BAD IGNITION COILS. SHOULD BERECALLED AS DEFFECTIVE PARTS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE THE ELECTRONIC COILS MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SIX COILS WERE REPLACED. THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE WITH THESE VEHICLES.*AK *TT *SB
WHILE SITTING AT A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT CONSUMER HAD TO DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO MAKE THE VEHICLE MOVE. WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED HARD VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND LURCHED FORWARD. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED MORE THAT FIVE TIMES IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS.*AK
DEFECTIVE MAF SENSOR ON 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA SE HAD TO BE REPLACED AT THE OWNERS COST. NISSAN HAS IN ESSANCE ADMITTED THAT THE ORIGINAL PART WAS DEFECTIVE BY REVISING THE PART. THE EXACT SAME SITUATION APPLIES TO THE IGNITION COILS AS WELL.*AK NISSAN HAS ISSUED A TSB ON BOTH ISSUES, BUT WILL ONLY REPLACE THE PARTS IF THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SHOULD RECALL THE DEFECTIVE PARTS AND REPLACE THEM AT THEIR COST. BOTH CAN CAUSE EXTREME DRIVEABILITY PROBLEMS AND AFFECT THE DRIVER'S CONTROL OVER THE CAR.
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND STAY ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO FOUND THAT THE MASS AIR FLOW METER WAS DEFECTIVE. *NM

FAILURE OF ALL 6 IGNITION COILS, DIAGNOSED BY CONCORD NISSAN, AS A REULT OF "CHECK ENGINE" COMING ON, I WAS TOLD THAT ALL 6 COILS WERE FAULTY, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY DUE TO RISK OF CAUSING OTHER PARTS TO FAIL, AS STATED BY AL KOHL, ASS'T SERVICE MANAGER. CAR HAS 35970 MILES, AND COST WAS $741.93,I CONTACTED NISSAN, MS LARASON, TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HELP, AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD OFFER NO HELP WITH THE COST, CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FIND THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH NISSAN MAXIMAS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME PRESSURE APPLIED TO NISSAN TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THESE FAILURES. I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG, AND SO DOES NISSAN, AND THIS IS WRONG.*AK
I HAVE READ THE COMPLAINTS ON THE 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA REGARDING IGNITION COIL FAILURES. I RECENTLY HAD A "CHECK ENGINE SOON" LIGHT COME ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS AND IGNITION COIL FAILURE. NISSAN RECOMMENDED I CHANGE ALL IGNITION COILS. MY VEHICLE HAD 19,050 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS OCCURRED. ALTHOUGH IT WAS OUT OF FACTORY WARRANTY, I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD ONLY COVER THE BAD COIL, NOT THE COILS BEING REPLACED AS A PRECAUTION PER NISSAN'S RECOMMENDATIONS. I DECIDED TO DO IT ANYWAY AND THEN BATTLE WITH THE 1-800-NISSAN1 CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER. I WAS TREATED VERY PROFESSIONALLY AND FAIRLY BY NISSAN. THEY PAID FOR ALL OF THE COILS AND INSTALLATION. *JB
ENGINE STALLS AT IDLE OR WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND THE RPM'S FALL BELOW 600. HAD TO RESTART ENGINE AND KEEP ONE FOOT ON ACCELERATOR AND OTHER ON BRAKE TO KEEP RPM'S ABOVE STALLING POINT. ON WAY TO WORK, I MUST HAVE HAD TO RESTART AT LEAST 25 TIMES AND MULTIPLE MORE TIMES TO GET HOME. HAD TO REPLACE THE ICV OR AAC VALVE AT A COST OF OVER $550 (HAD I GONE TO DEALER); BUT WAS ABLE TO PAY LESS AT AN INDEPENDANT REPAIR SHOP OF $380. THIS PART SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER ON MY WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AS WELL AS AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY BOTH THE DEALER AND THE MECHANIC COULD THAT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A TUNE-UP WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BOTH OXYGEN SENSORS ON MY CAR THAT I BOUGHT 3 WEEKS AGO HAVE MALFUNCTIONED, AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. MY CAR ONLY HAS 42,000 MILES. IT IS A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA.*AK
(1) ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BUT ENGINE RUNS FINE. RESET POWER AND LIGHT GOES AWAY. (2) ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON 1 WEEK LATER AND ENGINE SPUTTERS. (3) IGNITION COIL WAS FAILING. HAD TO REPLACE ALL 6 SINCE AND PLATINUM PLUGS. NISSAN COULD NOT RECOMMEND HOW TO FIND FAILED ONE, OR KNEW THAT ALL WOULD FAIL? COST $ 650. THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THE COILS, BUT PLENTY HAVE FAILED. A TECHNICAL REPORT SHOULD BE GENERATED BY NISSAN TO INSTRUCT PEOPLE HOW TO LOCATE WHICH COIL TO REPLACE TO REDUCE COST. TO IGNORE INHERENT PROBLEMS WILL REDUCE RECALLS AND CUSTOMERS.
IGNITION COIL FAILURE. THE CAR IS 47 MONTHS OLD WITH 32,000 MILES. DEALER INSISTS THEY CAN'T IDENTIFY WHICH COIL IS FAILING AND SAYS I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL SIX COILS - FOR $578. I FIND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT NISSAN HAS REPORTEDLY PRODUCED AN IMPROVED REPLACEMENT. IT SEEMS THE SOLUTION IS FOR ME TO PAY FOR NOT ONLY THE FAILED PART BUT THE DEFECTIVE PARTS BEFORE THEY FAIL.*AK
WHILE CONSUMER WAS IN A PARKING LOT LOOKING FOR A SPACE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. IT HIT A CONCRETE WALL BEFORE STOPPING. CONSUMER INDICATED THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. DEALER HAD BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
BAD #2 IGNITION COIL ON 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA. IT IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD WITH 38,000 MILES AND ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. THE CAR EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER AND VIBRATING. CORPORATE NISSAN WOULD NOT EXTEND WARRANTY TO COVER THIS DEFECT, EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM.*AK
THIS IS A COMPLAINT ON THE NISSAN COMPANY MANUFACTURES AND DEALERSHIPS. THEY HAVE MANUFACTURED CARS (MAXIMA 2000) WHICH HAVE FAULTY IGINITION COILS (6). THEY ARE VERY MUCH AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND HAVE DONE NOTHING ABOUT MAKING THIS A RECALL. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE CALLING ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND BEING TOLD "YOU'RE OUT OF LUCK". THE PRICE FOR THE CORRECTION AND REPLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION COILS STARTS AT $800. AND THERE IS NO WAY TO SINGLE OUT WHICH COIL IS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT, AND IF YOU ARE LUCKY AND CAN SINGLE IT OUT, 2 MONTHS LATER ANOTHER ONE WILL GO OUT. SO IN THE END YOU FIND IT CHEAPER TO GET ALL 6 REMOVED. THIS IS A BURDEN ON MAXIMA 2000 OWNERS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. THERE ARE PETITIONS ALL OVER AND ONLINE ASKING TO START A RECALL.*AK
CAR STARTED STUTTERING SO I HAD MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER DIAGNOSE. HAVE TO REPLACE THE IGNITION COILS = BIG $$$'S! I AM UPSET SINCE I AM HEARING THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN 2000 MAXIMA'S AND NISSAN WON'T RECALL IT AS THEY ARE PROBABLY TOO CHEAP. THIS WILL BE MY LAST NISSAN EVER PURCHASED.*AK
2000 NISSAN MAXIMA...I HAVE RESEARCHED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON FAULTY IGNITION COILS AND HAVE SEEN OVER 250 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. COSTS CAN BE UPWARDS OF 800.00 TO FIX. CAR STALLS AT LIGHTS, JUMPS WHEN GASSED. THIS PART NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.

THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT IDENTIFIES THIS PROBLEM AND THE SERVICING DEALER ADMITS SEEING THIS PROBLEM OFTEN. THIS COMPONENT IS DESIGNED TO LAST 100,000 MILES AND THE MANUFACTURER REGULAR SERVICE MAINTENANCE DOESN'T SUGGEST REPLACING AT ANY SERVICE INTERVAL UP THROUGH 90,000 MILES. SO, IF THE DEALERS ARE SEEING THIS PROBLEM OFTEN ON A COMPONENT THAT IS LASTING LESS THAN EXPECTED THEN THE COMPONENT FAILURE AND LONGEVITY RATE ARE UNSATISFACTORY AND CONSUMERS SHOULD BE REIMBURSED AT A PRORATED BASIS AT A MINIMUM. *LA
AN IGNITION COIL PROBLEM CAUSED VEHICLE TO RUN ROUGH AND STALL. CONSUMER CONTACTED NISSAN IN DECEMBER OF 2003. MANUFACTURER WAS OF NO HELP. *AK *MR
CAR WAS DRIVING VERY ROUGHLY, A LOT OF HESITATION AND MISFIRE. NISSAN DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME $120 FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REVEALED IT WAS THE IGNITION COIL PROBLEM ON MY NISSAN MAXIMA 2000 SE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR ALL 2000 OWNERS, A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ALSO EXISTS. NISSAN VERY WELL KNOWS ABOUT THIS BUT NEVER DONE A RECALL OR FREE COILS REPLACEMENT. DEALERSHIPS CHARGE $500-600 FOR THE REPLACEMENT. I WOULD LIKE NISSAN TO REFUND FOR THE PARTS AND SERVICE, MAKE A RECALL. *JB
I OWN A 2000 MAXIMA, WHICH I BOUGHT NEW. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT FIRST APPEARED AT AROUND 15000. I BROUGHT IT IN TO GET MY CAR SERVICE FOR THE 15K SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THE LIGHT WAS OFF AFTER THAT. HOWEVER IT REAPPEARED THREE WEEKS LATER. AT 30K, I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE AGAIN. I LIGHT I WAS TOLD IS DUE TO THE O2 SENSOR THAT WAS VERY SENSITIVE, BUT THEY ASSURED ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. AGAIN AFTER A DAY OR SO, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I FIGURE THIS WAS A WAY FOR NISSAN SERVICE TO MAKE SOME MONEY, SO I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. AT 55K, I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN FOR SERVICE, THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. AGAIN, A FEW DAYS LATER, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. FOOLISH ME, I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT. AFTER ALL I TOOK CARE OF THE CAR.*AK RECENTLY, I HAVE PROBLEM WITH THE MILEGE. I WAS GOING GETTING 240 MI VERSUS 320 MI THAT I WAS NORMALLY GETTING.I BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC, AND HE HOOKED IT UP TO HIS COMPUTER, AND FOUND OUT ONE OF THE COIL WAS DAMAGE SO HE REPLACED IT. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS ON ALL THE TIME BECAUSE THE OF CATALYTIC CONVERTER . MY CAR HAS 83K MILES ON IT NOW. IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT BUT IT'S ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. I DON'T THINK THE CC SHOULD BE GIVING ME PLOBLEMS AT THIS STAGE. I CHECK THE WARRANTY FOR IT, AND SINCE I'M IN CA IT'S ONLY GOOD FOR 70K/ 7YEARS. I HAVE SPOKEN TO NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPLAIN THE SITUATION, BUT BECAUSE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE NO OBLIGATION TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I REALLY BELIEVE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS PART. I HAVE SEARCH THE INTERNET AND FOULD OUT THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM ALSO. NISSAN SHOULD REALLY LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS MY 3RD NISSAN CAR. IT'S BEEN GOOD BUT I DON'T THINK I'LL BUY ANOTHER NISSAN AGAIN. IT'S JUST NOT RELAIBLE AS IT USE TO BE.
I ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL ENGINE: IGNITION. I HAD MY #6 COIL REPLACED RECENTLY. THIS IS MY THIRD AND LAST NISSAN. THEIR QUALITY HAS GONE WAY DOWN. MY MECHANIC ADVISE ME TO SELL IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. HE HAD MANY COMPLAINTS/ PROBLEMS WITH NISSAN CARS. YOU'LL END END SPENDING MORE MONEY AND GETTING MORE HEADACHES HAN IT'S WORTH. NISSAN NEEDS TO BE MORE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PRODUCTS!-THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE WON'T DO YOU ANY GOOD. I DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING FROM THEM. I HOPE THAT MORE PEOPLE WOULD COME OUT WITH THEIR PROBLEMS SO THAT IT CAN BE INVESTIGATED. SAFETY DEFECT WITH THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP OR SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT AS IT RELATES TO THE REAR OXYGEN SENSORS IN THE 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA. FAILURE TO REPLACE OXYGEN SENSORS COULD ULTIMATELY RESULT IN FURTHER VEHICLE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE INJURY. THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THE VEHICLE AND NOT DUE TO THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE OWNER FOR THE UPKEEP OF THE CAR.
