VEHICLE WAS SHAKING WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALER, AND DEALER ROTATED THE ROTORS. 5OO0 MILES LATER, BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED. SOON AFTER THAT VEHICLE WAS BACK IN SHOP TO GET BRAKES REPLACED AGAIN.*AK CONSUMER STATED FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED*SLC
HAD PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE PING 1 YEAR AFTER PURCHASE. WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP TO USE BETTER GRADE OF GAS AND SOME PINGING IS NORMAL. PINGING PERSISTED AND RIGHT AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED, PINGING GOT SO BAD THE CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE. ALL 6 COILS AND KNOCK SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. COST ME $1500. NISSAN WON'T COVER ANY OF IT EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM OBVIOUSLY EXISTED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN WARRANTY. DESPITE EFFORTS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED, NISSAN WAS NEGLIGENT IN REFUSING TO PERFORM THE NECESSARY REPAIRS AND STALLING UNTIL THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED.
CONSUMER STATED ENGINE WILL MAKE A "POPPING" NOISE DURING ACCELERATION AND A "KNOCKING" NOISE DURING NORMAL OPERATION. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. *AK *YH
THE FRONT ROTORS WARP ABOUT EVERY 12,000 MILES. EACH TIME, THE DEALER HAS EITHER REPLACED OR RE-SURFACED THE ROTORS. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT, AND NISSAN HASN'T CORRECTED THE ISSUE. SO FAR, MY ROTORS HAVE BEEN SERVICED 4 TIMES, AND NOW COMING ON NUMBER 5. *LA
FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, BUT DID NOT INFLATE IN FRONT END COLLISION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT ANY MPH COULD STEP ON BRAKES PEDAL TO STOP OR TO SLOW DOWN, BUT BRAKES WILL NOT OPERATE. COULD FEEL PEDAL PULSING. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE FOR REPAIRS BEFORE ON PADS AND ROTORS. CURRENTLY, SAME REPAIR NEEDED TO BE DONE.*AK
THE CAR HAS A STRONG VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE NOISE STARTED AS A MILD THUMPING FEEL IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. WE FIRST REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH WE PURCHASED THE CAR. THE REPORT WAS MADE IN JUNE 2001. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ROTORS WERE GLAZED AT 8000 MILES AND THAT A CHARGE OF $120 WAS REQUIRED. WE STRONGLY DISAGREED WITH THIS DIAGNOSIS. FOR THE MOST PART WE DROVE THE CAR LOCALLY BELOW 40 MPH. AS WE HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY ON THE HIGHWAY AT 50-65 MPH THE VIBRATION HAS GOTTEN WORSE. THE ROTORS ARE WARPED AND ARE GETTING WORSE THE MORE THE CAR IS DRIVEN. AFTER READING SIMILAR NHTSA COMPLAINTS THAT DESCRIBED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM MY CONCERNS HEIGHTENED SINCE MY WIFE USES THIS CAR TO TRANSPORT OUR YOUNG CHILDREN. MR
VEHICLE KEEPS PULLING TO RIGHT.*AK THERE IS A WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE WHILE DRIVING. UNEVEN HEATING AND DEFROST IMPROPER. THEFT WARNING ALARM WILL SOUND FOR NO REASON. TRUNK AND HOOD IS ASYMMETRICAL. VEHICLE GETS BAD GAS MILEAGE. *SLC

WHILE DRIVING AT ANY RATE OF SPEED OR WHILE MAKING ANY TRAFFIC MANEUVERS VEHICLE WILL COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER CANNOT IDENTIFY CAUSE. *AK CONSUMER STATES STALLING OCCURS MORE SPECIFICALLY WHEN DOWNSHIFTING INTO 2ND GEAR OR GOING AROUND CORNERS, VEHICLE WILL START UP WITH NO PROBLEMS. *SLC
THIS ACCIDENT HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE EXPLAINED BY POLICE OR ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTIONIST. NO WITNESSES HAVE COME FORWARD. ONE CAR ACCIDENT. CAR LEFT INTERSTATE AND CLIPPED A POLE MIDWAY DOWN THE DRIVER'S SIDE..BETWEEN THE FRONT AND BACK SEATS. THE CAR RIPPED INTO TWO PIECES THAT WERE 150FT APART WHEN THEY STOPPED. THE DRIVER WAS KILLED LAONG WITH MY 3 YR OLD DAUGHTER. MOTHER IN LAW SUSTAINED SEVERE HEAD TRAUMA RESULTING IN BEING DISABLED. SHE HAS NO MEMORIES OF THE ACCIDENT. THE GARAGE THE TOWED THE CAR STATED THAT THEY ARE BUILT WITH NO FRAMES???? PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THAT THEY ARE SPENDING THOUSANDS ON CARS THAT RIP APART LIKE COKE CANS.*AK
BROUGHT IN INITIALLY AND ECM WAS RESET. TWO DAYS LATER FAILED AGAIN. ON RETURN FOR SERVICE FUEL INJECTOR #6 WAS REPLACED. TWO DAYS LATER FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT IS ON. FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA IF A MAJOR PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED OR THE SENSOR IS JUST NOT WORKING PROPERLY. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING 20 MPH CONSUMER PLACED FOOT ON BRAKE AND PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. AS A RESULT, VEHICLE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. /NO DAMGE OR INJURIES OCCURRED. DEALER HAS CHECKED, BUT STILL CANNOT FIND CAUSE. *AK
WHENEVER CONSUMER GOES ABOVE 40 MPH VEHICLE STARTS TO SHAKE FROM WARPED ROTORS.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 45MPH ON HIGHWAY AN ANIMAL RAN IN FRONT OF VEHICLE ON WET ROADS. VEHICLE SLID LEFT AND WENT INTO A GUARDRAIL HEAD-ON, AND NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. CONSUMER WASN'T HURT. *AK
2000 MAXIMA ENGINE FAILED. PISTON ROD BROKE INTO PIECES AND TOTALLY DAMAGED THE ENGINE. *TS THE ROTORS WERE TURNED AND THE DOORS WERE HARD TO OPEN. THE DRIVE BELTS WERE REPLACED. *JB THE DECK LID LIGHT BULB WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO PULL OUT THE DIP STICK. UPDATED 03/20/06. *JB
TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT TWICE, THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REBUILT, AND CURRENTLY IT IS A PROBLEM AGAIN. TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REBUILT AGAIN FOR THE 2ND TIME.*AK *JG
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AND/OR DECELERATING VEHICLE STALLS OUT AND DIES WITHOUT WARNING. VEHICLE WILL START UP IMMEDIATELY AFTER. DEALER HAS REPLACED THE SENSOR AND THE AIR FILTERS AND THE PROBLEM HAS REOCCURRED.*AK
WE ARE CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A # 6 COIL FOR OUR 2000 MAXIMA, THIS PART IS ON BACK ORDER FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND THERE ARE NO AVAILABLE PARTS IN THE U.S. SINCE THIS PART IS ON HOLD FOR OTHER CUSTOMERS AT OTHER DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS PART IS FAILING ON A LOT OF NEW CARS(UNDER THREE YEARS OLD) THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED. WE'VE ALSO EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND SINCE OUR CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME, WE HAD IT FIXED AT THE MANUFACTURERS EXPENSE. INSTEAD OF RECEIVING A NEW ONE WE RECEIVED A "REBUILT" ONE. HOW DO YOU HAVE A "REBUILT" TRANSMISSION ON HAND FOR A BRAND NEW CAR IS A QUESTION I'VE NEVER HAD ANSWERED FROM THE MAUFACTURER. *AK
DRIVING ON THE TURNPIKE, SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL OF STEERING, HIT ANOTHER CAR, SPUN AROUND HIT THE CEMENT MEDIAN BACKWARDS, MEANWHILE, NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, AND AT SOME POINT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUT DOWN, NOT SURE AT WHAT POINT- COULD HAVE PRECEEDED THE ENTIRE EVENT
AT 60 MPH, THERE IS CONSTANT, AGRIVATED VIBRATION ON THE FRONT END (STEERING WHEEL, FLOOR, PAN, PEDDLES, AND SEATS). I FEEL THE VIBRATION COME DOWN MY WRISTS, ARMS, UP TO MY SHOULDER. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT CAN DISTRACT ME FROM BEING FULLY ALERT AND ATTENTIVE TO TRAFFIC. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE WORST NEW CAR THAT I HAVE EVER PURCHASED. *AK

CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING AT 40 MPH & WAS INVOLVED IN AA FRONT END COLLISION WITH A TRUCK. FRONTAL AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. MANUFACTURER SENT A AIRBAG SPECIALIST TO CHECK THE VEHICLE, BUT HAD NOT INFORMED THE CONSUMER. CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED.*AK *ML
I HAVE A MAXIMA 2000, STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WITH 6 CARS INFRONT. ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT ME FROM THE REAR AT ABOUT 40 MPH SENDING MY CAR TO ANOTHER VAN INFRONT.THAT SEND THAT VAN TO ANOTHER CAR INFRONT. THE AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED. THE NISSAN COMPANY SAID THAT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOYED IF HIT FROM REAR FIRST!!. WELL, MY FRONT SIDE WAS STILL HIT HARD ENOUGHT TO THE TWO CAR INFRONT OF ME, THE AIRBAG SHOULD DEPLOY TO PROTECT ME FROM FRONTAL IMPACT.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE: BOUGHT VEHICLE IN APRIL OF '99. TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP AT 15K. REMAN TRANS UNDER WARRANTY. 2ND SLIP OCCURRED AT 30K UNDER WARRANTY. DENIED VEHICLE TRADE. REMAN TRANS. 3RD OCCURRENCE AT 45K, REPLACED TRANS W/ OEM UNDER WARRANTY. DENIED TRADE. TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT HIGH TEMP FOR LONG DRIVES (2 HR INCLINE) AND HAD TO WAIT FOR THE TRANS TO COOL BEFORE IT DROVE AGAIN, ONE OCCURRENCE AT 55K, OIL OK. STILL INTERMITTENT POWER LOSS/SLIPPAGE. DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO RECREATE PROBLEM. DENIED TRADE. IGNITION COILS: KNOCKING, BAD GAS MILEAGE, AND POWER LOSS DUE TO IGNITION COIL FAILURE AT 70K. WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL COILS RATHER THAN THE ONE THAT WAS DAMAGED AND ALL SPARK PLUGS. ALTERNATOR WENT OUT AFTER REPAIR. REPLACED ALL COILS, PLUGS AND ALTERNATOR ($1500). STILL HAVE POWER LOSS & OCCASIONAL KNOCKING. NO HELP FROM NISSAN. DENIED TRADE. SUSPENSION: CONSTANT KNOCKING OF TIRE AREA AT 60K. ALL 4 HUBS DAMAGED AND REPLACED AT 65K. ALL 4 STRUTS LEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED ALSO AT 65K. NO HELP FROM NISSAN. NISSAN QUOTE $3000. OPTED OUTSIDE REPAIR FOR $1000, NO MORE PROBLEMS. EMISSIONS: MORE LOSS OF POWER (3000RPM+) AND BAD GAS MILEAGE. PROBABLY LINKED TO IGNITION COIL PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED TO 1 OF 4 CATALYTIC CONVERTER SENSOR FAILURES. 130K. NO HELP FROM NISSAN. $3000+. FAN: LOUD NOISE WHEN A/C IS ON. ONE FAN DEFECTIVE AT 80K. FAN BLADE RUBBING ON METAL FRAME. REPLACED FAN $200. NO HELP FROM NISSAN. CONCLUSION: I WANTED TO HAVE MY VEHICLE CONSIDERED A LEMON AND TRADED. I HAD NO COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN OR THE MAXIMA LINE. I ONLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH JUST MY CAR. JUST WANTED A NEW MAXIMA. 5 LEMON ATTEMPTS WITH NISSAN, REJECTED EACH TIME. DISMISSED UNDER STRICT LEMON LAW STIPULATION REGARDING REPAIR STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS AND GUIDELINES OF REPAIR. JAN. 2004 - PA INSPECTION W/O INCIDENT FEB. 2004 - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON - $700.00 FOR ECM PROBLEM, FRONT BRAKES, BRAKE FLUID FLUSH, REAR BRAKE ADJUSTMENT APR 2004 - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN - NEED TO CHANGE IGNITION COILS - ALL 6 AS DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHICH COIL IS DEFECTIVE + REPLACE THE OXYGEN SENSOR. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT HAS COME ON 3 TIMES (WITHIN 13 MONTHS OF PURCHASE) CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS THE PROBLEM ALL 3 TIMES. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 MPH AND AS A RESULT OF A HEAD-ON COLLISION AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER TOLD OWNER THAT IT WAS BECAUSE THE COLLISION WAS WITH AN SUV, AND THE BUMPER WAS TOO HIGH TO TRIGGER THE SENSOR. *AK *ML

I HAVE A NISSAN MAXIMA 2000 GXE SEDAN. EVERY WINTER DURING SNOW DAYS, I PRESS THE BRAKES VERY HARD AND I FEEL A ROD IS TRYING TO STOP THE CAR. CAR NEVER GETS COMPLETELY STOP, SOME TIMES I AVOID ACCIDENTS. I HAVE CHANGED BRAKES, BRAKE PADS, TIRES MANY TIMES. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE LONG A WHILE NOW. *TR
SINCE CAR FIRST PICKED UP FROM DEALER, FRONT END VIBRATES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (65-70MPH). RETURNED TO DEALER 3 TIMES TO CORRECT PROBLEM. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. DEALER CUT ROTORS, ROTATED AND BALANCED TIRES SEVERAL TIMES, REPLACED ALL TIRES AND PROBLEM REMAINS. REPORT FILED WITH NISSAN (FILE # 3027068). TEST DROVE ANOTHER 2000 MAXIMA AND PROBLEM WAS NOT THERE. WAITING FOR NISSAN TO CONTACT DEALER TO CONTINUE THE TROUBLE SHOOTING OF THE PROBLEM.
POSSIBLE SUSPENSION FAILURE IS CAUSING HTE VEHICLE TO HAVE A POOR RIDE. CONSUMER SAYS THE RIDE IS VERY BUMPY, CHOPPY AND JARRING AND MAKES DRIVING UNCOMFORTABLE AND TIRING. NLM
