TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO CRANK TWICE BEFORE BEING ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED SHORTLY AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR FACILITY. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR RECALL NOT PERFORMED , NISSAN CLAIMS WIRING HARNESS WAS TAMPERED THEREFORE RECALL WAS NOT PROCESSED. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM NISSAN NOT KNOWING OF THIS SITUATION AND ASKED FOR NISSAN TO CONDUCT RECALL AS IT IS AN URGENT SAFETY RECALL.
LAST WEEK A NEW BATTERY & STARTER WERE INSTALLED. DID NOT DRIVE FOR A WEEK. STARTED FINE YESTERDAY AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY 90 MILES, THEN IT JUST STOPPED. LUCKILY I WAS ON A ROAD WITH NO OTHER TRAFFIC. I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. I DROVE ONE MILE AND PARKED IT AT MY HOME. WILL NOT DRIVE IT AGAIN UNTIL I TALK WITH A MECHANIC. VERY SCARY! PLANET NISSAN IN MY AREA HAVE GIVEN ME HORRIBLE SERVICE. IF YOU HAVE AN OLDER CAR THEY CANNOT BE BOTHERED. I PLAN ON CALLING A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT HOPEFULLY CAN HELP ME. *TR

THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
NORMAL MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON VEHICLE - OIL CHANGE, TIRE REPLACEMENT - CAR WAS ON A LIFT. MECHANIC RECOMMENDED THAT I "THINK" ABOUT GETTING RID OF THE CAR AS THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS VERY VERY RUSTED AND WHILE NOT "UNSAFE" YET, IS BECOMING UNSAFE. I UNDERSTAND FROM CONSUMERS REPORTS THAT THE 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS A RECALL FOR FRAME RUST AND STABILITY AND REPAIRS ARE COVERED BY MANUFACTURER BUT NOT THE 2003. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AS OF YET TO SEE IF THIS WOULD FALL UNDER THEIR RECALL. THE QUALITY OF THE METAL ON THIS CAR IS VERY POOR (I HAD TO REPLACE AN OIL PAN DUE TO RUST WHICH I HAVE NEVER HAD TO DO ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED). THE REAR PANELS OF THE CAR ARE RUSTING THROUGH AS WELL. OTHERWISE CAR HAS BEEN EXTREMELY RELIABLE (ONE OWNER) AND I DON'T WANT TO GET RID OF IT YET. *TR
I RECENTLY HAD A DIAGNOSTIC DONE ON MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I HAD BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY CAR ENGINE WOULD GET A LITTLE HOT, IT WOULD ALSO CUT OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT NOTICE, I HAD A COUPLE DIAGNOSIS DONE AND ALL POINTED TO MY CAMSHAFT SENSOR, IN WAS IN THE NATIONAL DATA BASE AS A RECALL, BUT BASE IN NORTH AMERICAN NISSAN MY VIN# IS ELIGIBLE FOR THAT CAMPAIGN THUS WILL NOT HELP FIX AN ISSUE I'VE ALREADY HAD TO REPAIR MORE THAN ONCE. THEY'VE TOLD ME BECAUSE I HAVEN'T HAD MY CAR SERVICE BY THEM THE WHOLE TIME I'VE OWNED MY VEHICLE THEY WOULD NOT HELP. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED FIRST THEN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC; HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V361000 (AIR BAGS), BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL REMEDY DUE TO THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

LETTER FROM SENATOR BEGICH ON BEHALF OF REGARDING A SAFETY RECALL ON THEIR 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA, BUT THERE IS NO NISSAN DEALER IN JUNEAU; THEY ARE SEEKING A SOLUTION TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER; PLEASE RESPOND DIRECTLY TO THE CONSTITUENTS. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DISATANCE TO TRAVEL TO A DEALERSHIP IN ORDER T HAVE THE RECALL REPAIR COMPLETED WAS UNREASONABLE. NISSAN DEALER IN METAIRE/LA CAN'T HELP WITH AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL. *TR
TAKATA RECALL-RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL FROM NISSAN ABOUT A RECALL ON MY 2003 MAXIMA PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS (NHTSA RECALL 14V-361). SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR SEPT.26, 2014 @ 3PM TO HAVE WORK DONE. DROPPED VEHICLE OFF ON THE MORNING OF SEPT 26, 2014 BECAUSE I HAD TO LEAVE TOWN BEFORE THE TIME OF APPT. I PICKED MY VEHICLE UP LATER THAT DAY FROM THE DEALER. ON APRIL 15, 2016, I WAS AT WORK ON LUNCH BREAK IN OUR PARKING LOT AND I NOTICED A LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD ON. I TOOK MY MAXIMA TO THE DEALER TO HAVE LIGHT CHECKED TO FIND OUT IT WAS ABOUT MY AIRBAG. RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE OF WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE, TOTAL OF WORK NEEDED $1385 PLUS $90 I HAD TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS DONE. THE ESTIMATE WAS FOR THE EXACT SAME WORK THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE BEEN COMPLETED IN SEPT. 2014. I FINALLY HAD MY MECHANIC FIX THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS SUPPOSE HAD FIXED AND I HAVE NOT HAD AN ISSUE SINCE.
AS VERIFIED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR SHUT THE CAR DOWN DURING OPERATION ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM WAS THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL IN 2003 (NOTICE OF WHICH WAS NEVER GIVEN TO ME) AND I FOUND TWO INDEPENDENT INTERNET REFERENCES TO A RECALL FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM (RECALL #33403), ONE OF WHICH CONTAINED A RANGE OF AFFECTED VIN'S THAT INCLUDED MY CAR. I SENT THE INFORMATION TO NISSAN WITH THE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION BUT WAS SUMMARILY REJECTED ON THE BASIS THAT MY VIN SIMPLY DID NOT APPEAR ON THEIR COMPUTER. I ASKED IF IT WAS BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS IN 2003, BUT DID NOT RECEIVE A REPLY. NISSAN REFUSED TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART(S); CONSEQUENTLY, I HAD THE WORK PERFORMED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. AFTER APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CAR HAS STALLED IN TRAFFIC THREE TIMES OVER THE LAST 3 WEEKS. I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. NISSAN REFUSES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHEN MY CAR STALLED THE CAR BEHIND ME CAME CLOSE TO HITTING ME. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I OR MY FAMILY COULD BE KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE STALLING OF THE CAR IN TRAFFIC. GM IS NOW FIXING THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR CARS; AFTER 13 DEATHS. NHTSA RECALL 14-V-361 I MADE 3 GOOD FAITH EFFORTS TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH VICTORIA NISSAN MOTORS, 578-5000 BUT THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATES HE WILL CALL ME AND MAKE THAT APPOINTMENT. HE NEVER RETURNS THE CALL TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 30 MPH, THE CAR SHUT OFF AS MY CHILD AND I WERE COMING TO A STOPLIGHT. I HAD NO PROBLEM RESTARTING AND ENCOUNTERED THIS SAME PROBLEM 4 MORE TIMES DURING MY TRIP, INCLUDING FAILURE TO IDLE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. NEXT TIME, I WAS DRIVING APPROX 45 MPH AND THE CAR SHUT OFF AND IT TRIED RESTARTING ITSELF WHILE I WAS TRYING TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. THE CAR RESTARTED AGAIN NO PROBLEM. THEN AS MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING AT APPROX. 60 MPH THE CAR BEGAN TO LURCH (STOPPING AND ATTEMPTING TO START AGAIN BY ITSELF). PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, ALL OF THESE INSTANCES NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. LASTLY, I WAS UNABLE TO START THE CAR AFTER PARKING IT AWAY FROM HOME AND IT WAS ACTING LIKE IT WAS "FLOODED". AFTER 20 MINUTES OF ATTEMPTED STARTING, IT FINALLY TOOK AND I DROVE HOME ON THE BACK ROADS. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT HOME TO RECREATE THE NO START PROBLEM, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FINALLY ON! AT THIS POINT, I'M NOT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE UNTIL WE HAVE THE BANK 2 CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR REPLACED. WE RAN A CODE READER AND GOT A P0345 CODE. NISSAN HAS A RECALL ON THIS YEAR MAKE/MODEL BUT I, LIKE MANY, MANY OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE BEEN TOLD, THEIR VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL FROM 2003. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE'S VIN FELL INTO THEIR RECALL. I JUST TOLD THE NISSAN "CUSTOMER SERVICE" THAT I AM AFRAID DRIVING THIS CAR COULD RESULT IN FATALITIES, AND THEY SUGGESTED I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND MAYBE THEY COULD DO SOMETHING FOR ME! MY 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA GLE HAS HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE ABS AND THE TSC LIGHTS COMING ON. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER WHO RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT AND SAID IT WAS THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WHICH I HAD ALREADY REPLACED DUE TO AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH THE SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING, OR THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PACKAGE. AS I AM FAIRLY MECHANICAL (FATHER WAS A MASTER MECHANIC) THIS DID NOT SEEM LOGICAL TO ME. THE SPEEDOMETER HAS NOW QUIT WORKING COMPLETELY AND THE TACHOMETER IS NOW HAVING INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. I HAVE ALSO CHANGED THE CAMSHAFT SENSORS. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE MORE ELECTRICAL THAN MECHANICAL--INSTRUMENTS ONLY RECORD WHAT SENSORS SEND TO THEM. IT HAS NOW STARTED DYING IN TRAFFIC WHICH SCARES ME AS I AM AFRAID I WILL HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THE DYING IN TRAFFIC PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HIT MY FLASHERS AND STRUGGLE TO GLIDE IT OFF THE EDGE OF THE ROAD TO A STOP WHEN IT HAPPENS UNTIL I CAN GET IT STARTED AGAIN. SOME TIMES IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO START AND SOMETIMES IT WILL START RIGHT BACK AGAIN. I HAVE RULED OUT MOISTURE IN THE GAS HAS I HAVE RUN SEVERAL CONTAINERS OF HEET THROUGH THE GAS TANK THE LAST TWO MONTHS. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALER IF THEY HAD SEEN OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS THEY SAID NO. I ASKED THEM IF MY CAR MODEL HAD ANY RECALLS AND THEY SAID NO AGAIN. DUE TO A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT RECALL #03V455000 HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR MY MODEL YEAR NISSANS THAT WERE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE DYING DUE TO SOLDIER FLUX ON VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR. PLEASE ADVISE IF MY CAR IS COVERED BY THIS RECALL ASAP AS I AM AFRAID I MIGHT HAVE AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE CAR DYING AND EVERYTHING LOCKING UP WHEN IT DOES. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE PERFORMED NORMALLY AND WAS LATER TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE SENSOR FAILED POSSIBLY DUE TO FAULTY WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
WHILE DRIVING, CAR SUDDENLY STOPS RESPONDING, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS INTO POSITION, THE ENGINE LOOSES POWER, AND STOPS RUNNING. IT HAPPENED FOUR TIMES OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS. THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE DURING THE INCIDENTS WAS BETWEEN 20 - 35 MPH.

UPON CHECKING THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 03V455000 MAY BE RELEVANT (IT COVERS 2003 MAXIMA). THE SYMPTOMS MY CAR EXHIBITED ARE THE SAME AS THOSE DESCRIBED. HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED NISSAN, I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR'S VIN WAS NOT COVERED BY RECALL. IT SEEMS VERY, VERY COINCIDENTAL THAT I WOULD EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL, BUT AM NOT SUBJECT TO RECALL. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START DURING LUNCH. IT STARTED AFTER A COUPLE OF ATTEMPTS AFTER WORK AND THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AS I LEFT MY JOB AND DROVE 1/2 MILE, THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING ON A THREE LANE ROAD IN TRAFFIC AS I WAS GOING 35-40 MPH. I MANAGED TO COAST PAST AN INTERSECTION AND QUICKLY TURN WITHOUT POWER STEERING INTO A PARKING LOT.
ON APRIL 28TH 2011, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA SE VEHICLE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND AN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS VERY LUCKY THERE WAS A POLICE OFFICE A FEW CARS BEHIND ME TO STOP TRAFFIC OTHERWISE I AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT BY A HAIR! NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED. AN ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT LATER INDICATED THE A P0340 AND P1564 CODE WHICH IS RELATED TO THE CRANK SHAFT AND CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 63215 MILES ON THE ODOMETER WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I CALLED NISSAN AFTER AN ONLINE SEARCH INDICATED THEY HAD A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CALLED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA INC TO GET APPROVAL FOR THE RECALL FIX, THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.

CHECKING THE INTERNET I FIND THAT THE MANUFACTURER RECALLED THIS MODEL FOR A BAD SOLDER ON THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT BOARD IN 2003, BUT THE DEALER NEVER INFORMED ME WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 55000 MILES. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT JUST BECAUSE THERE WAS A RECALL DOES NOT MEAN THAT EVERY CAR FROM THAT MODEL YEAR WILL BE FIXED. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
