BEEN HAVING NUMEROUS TRANSMISSIONS ISSUES WITH THE CAR OVER THE PAST 2 TO 3 YEARS. ALREADY TO HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION ONCE, NOW STARTING TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AGAIN. LOTS OF JERKING FROM GEAR TO GEAR, LOTS OF DIFFICULTY GETTING THE CAR TO UP SHIFT OR DOWN SHIFT; CAR LOCKING IN 4TH OR 5TH GEAR AND WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF THAT GEAR. CAN NOT BELIEVE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL BASED ON THE NUMBER OF INTERNET COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. *TR
DRIVING IN MY NISSAN 2004 MAXIMA SE THE TRANSMISSION STARTED JERKING EVERY TIME HATE THIS CAR NOW. *TR
IT STARTED WITH A LOUD NOISE OUT OF THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL THEN THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON THEN THE BACK AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND THEN THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ THE SPEED. THEN IT SHUTS DOWN IF IM AT A STOP LIGHT FOR A WHILE OR OUT OF NOWHERE THIS IS NOT SAFE!!! AT ALL AS IT CAN CAUSE AND ACCIDENT. ITS HAS HAPPENED AT TURNING LANES AND THE CAR BEHIND THANK GOD STOP IN TIME OR ELSE HE WOULD OF REAR ENDED ME. SOO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND SAID IT NEEDED A NEW ABS PUMP, HARNESS, AND IPDM. I'VE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 9MONTHS ITS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 56,000MILES ON IT AND FOR THE PRICE I PAID THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING TO A CAR THAT CLAIMS TO BE SOOOOO RELIABLE. NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!!! NOW IM STUCK PAYING $2500.00 FOR REPAIR AND SOMETHING THAT I'VE READ SOOO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT AND NISSAN JUST AVOIDS IT AND SAYS CANT DO ANYTHING SINCE IT HAS NO WARRANTY VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WAS STALLED ON THE ROAD TWICE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING AROUND JUNE 2008 WITH A MILEAGE OF 54,500. BEFORE THE STALLS HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE JERKED WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND VS VERSA. AT THE TIME OF THE STALLING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO NISSAN DEALER, THINKING IT IS STILL WITHIN THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THE DEALER HOWEVER TOLD ME THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THIS PROBLEM. IT COSTS ME OVER $600.00. THE REPORT SAID THAT CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING. *TR
I PURCHASED A USED 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT IT SHIFTED EXTREMELY HARD BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND AS WELL AS FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS MAKE OF VEHICLE I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD THE DEALER LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND HE DETERMINED MY TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT. IT WILL NEED A NEW ONE...APPROXIMATELY $3,000. ON TOP OF THIS..THE ENGINE HAS DEVELOPED A TICK. THE CAR ONLY HAS ABOUT 90,000 MILES ON IT. A NISSAN TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER. COME TO FIND OUT...DESPITE THE OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINTS...NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO ADDRESS THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. *TR
THE TRANSSMISSION HAS HAD A CONSTANT JERK BETWEEN 1ST 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. ALWAYS AT LOW SPEEDS. I HAVE HAD THE TRANS COOLER SEALS REPLACED 3 TIMES THEN THE COOLER ITS SELF. STILL ACTS UP. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH A LITTLE OVER 90,000 MILES. IT IS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT THE ONLY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT SLIPS OUT OF GEAR AND MAKES THE VEHICLE JUMP AS IF SOMEONE REAR ENDED ME. IT SHIFTS REALLY HARD FROM !ST TO 2ND EVEN 3RD WHEN I DRIVE THROUGHOUT THE CITY. IT DOES IT ONLY WHEN THE CAR WARMS UP AND IT DOES IT CONSISTENTLY. I'VE DONE A TRANSMISSION FLUSH WHICH WAS REQUIRED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND IT STOPPED DOING IT FOR ABOUT 5 MILES INTO THE RIDE, THEN IT BEGAN DOING IT. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE AND WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY ALL HAVE DONE ALL THE TRANSMISSION REPAIRS POSSIBLE AND THE PROBLEM STILL MAINTAINS. I REFUSE TO SPEND $4,000.00 ON A NEW TRANSMISSION BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THAT MONEY. THESE TRANSMISSIONS NEED TO BE RECALLED. *TR
I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA FOR ALMOST THREE YEARS NOW. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 70,000 MI. AND IN VERY GOOD SHAPE AT THE TIME. THREE MONTHS WENT BY AND I STARTED NOTICING MY TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND SHIFTING VERY HARD. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO CHECK MY TRANSMISSION AND TOLD ME THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT BUT SUGGESTED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. BECAUSE OF THEIR HIGH PRICE FOR A TRANSMISSION FLUSH I TOOK IT TO JIFFY LUBE. THE VEHICLE SHIFTED SMOOTHLY FOR ABOUT 30 MIN. INTO THE DRIVE THEN THE SLIPPING AND HARD SHIFTS CONTINUED. I WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT I WAS NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I FOUND THIS WEBSITE (HTTP://WWW.CARSURVEY.ORG/REVIEWS/NISSAN/MAXIMA/R61092/COMMENTS/PAGE-16/) AND CAME ACROSS THOUSANDS OF NISSAN OWNERS WITH THE EXACT TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. AFTER LEARNING THIS I WAS CONVINCED THAT IT WAS A DEFECT AND NISSAN NEEDS TO RECALL THE TRANSMISSION. I AM NEVER GOING TO BUY A NISSAN CAR EVER AGAIN! I HAVE THIS EXPENSIVE CAR NOTE FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTED EVER SINCE IT WAS PUT IN THE CAR! MY WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED BEFORE THIS STARTED HAPPENING. THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AND AN INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO START. IT IS SO UNFAIR TO ME AND THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING THROUGH THIS. PLEASE HELP!
WHEN ACCELERATING, MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE'S TRANSMISSION 'BUCKS' WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS. THIS BEHAVIOR OCCURS RANDOMLY (I.E., NOT ALL THE TIME) AND HAS OCCURRED WHEN DECELERATING ALSO. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ONLINE POSTS ABOUT THIS EXACT BEHAVIOR WITH OWNER'S SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY FOR REPAIRS/DIAGNOSTICS THAT DO NOT RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BECAUSE SOME OF THESE REPAIRS HAVE TAKEN PLACE AT NISSAN SERVICE CENTERS, AND NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS HAS BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. OBVIOUSLY, OWNERS ARE LOOKING FOR A RECALL BY NISSAN AT THIS POINT THAT WILL 100% RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR
STARTED NOTICING AT 60K MILES - THE ENGINE REVS AND THE TRANSMISSION JERKS BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE AFTER EXITING A FREEWAY AND SLOWING DOWN ALMOST TO A STOP, THEN ACCELERATING AGAIN. HAPPENS MORE WHEN THE CAR IS WARMED UP OR HAS BEEN RUNNING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I HAVE NOT HAD IT LOOKED AT YET, BUT SEE ENOUGH POSTINGS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THAT I'D LIKE TO WAIT UNTIL NISSAN MAKES SOME EFFORT TO DO SOMETHING. IF IT GETS BAD ENOUGH I WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT IN AND HOPE MY EXTENDED WTY. COVERS THE WORK - AND THAT WHAT IS DONE ACTUALLY FIXES IT. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THE CHANCES OF THE LATTER ARE SLIM, AND NOTHING SHORT OF A NEW TRANSMISSION IS LIKELY TO FIX IT. *TR
TRANSMISSION ACTING UP ON MY 04 NISSAN MAXIMA. I SEE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THESE ISSUES BUT HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE AS WELL AND NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT. I'M HAVING HARD SHIFTS AND MIS-SHIFTS. I HONESTLY THINK THAT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SHOULD BE MADE AGAINST NISSAN FOR NOT DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR
VERY ROUGH SHIFT AFTER DECELERATION GOING INTO ACCELERATION AT 20 TO 35 MPH. IT FEELS AS IF I HAVE BEEN REARENDED AND HAS A LOUD SOUND MIMICKING SAME. IT VARIES GREATLY ON OCCURRENCE. WEEKS CAN GO BY WITH NOTHING, THEN IT WILL OCCUR REGULARLY FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING OFF AND ON SINCE 2008 (APPROX 65K - 80K MILES). THE CAR NOW HAS 113K MILES. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAS BEEN CHANGED, ENGINE MOUNTS FIXED - ALL TO NO AVAIL. THE LAST RESORT IS TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED WHICH IS HALF THE VALUE OF THE CAR. NISSAN HAS REFUSED TO FIX THE VEHICLE AT NO COST TO ME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A TIRES, SIZE P245/45R18. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TIRES HAD CRACKS IN THE SIDEWALLS. SHE WAS FURTHER INFORMED OF A RECALL THAT APPLIED TO HER TIRES. SHE CALLED GOODYEAR AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL EXPIRED, AND THEN THE GOODYEAR REPRESENTATIVE DISCONNECTED THE CALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE NEVER RECEIVED THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION, EVEN THOUGH SHE HAS OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE FEBRUARY OF 2007. THE DOT NUMBER AND RECALL NUMBER WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 52,000.
1. AROUND 80,000 MILES I NOTICED HARD JERKING/STOPPING WHEN THE CAR SHIFTED FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND SECOND TO FIRST. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SUGGESTED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. UNFORTUNATELY THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. 2. THE PROBLEM OCCURS QUITE OFTEN. EVERYDAY AND EVERY TIME I STOP OR SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN I CAN FEEL THE JERKING MOTION. THE PROBLEM BECOMES WORSE IN HOT WEATHER OR WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM. 3. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SUGGESTED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH, WHICH WAS DONE AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHEN THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, IT BEGAN TO JERK. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $300. AFTER TWO MONTHS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AGAIN WHEN IT WAS PLACED INTO DRIVE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT AT THE COST OF $3,500. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE MADE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

2004 MAXIMA SL - CLUNKING NOISE ON THE FRONT FROM BOTH SIDES, THE CAR IS OVER 36,000 SO I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER SINCE IT WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I THINK THE NOISE STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS AROUND 40,000 MILES. I TOOK IT TO GOODYEAR, THEY REPLACED THE STRUTS BUT THE NOISE NEVER WENT AWAY. YOU CAN HEAR IT THE MOST WHEN GOING OVER BRICK ROADS AND HUMPS. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT WILL FALL APART. *TR

BROUGHT TO DEALER NEXT DAY AND THE SAID A BAR WAS RUBBING ON ANOTHER THEY FIX THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG WITH SUSPENSION IN HEARING THINGS IS THERE EXACT WORDS AND REPLACED THE DOOR HINGES WHICH ARE PURPLE AND THE CAR IS RED DOOR SAGGING AGAIN BUT I WAS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT END OF 2008 GOT SIDESWIPED BY 2500 DODGE RAM TRUCK AT 45 MPH ON DRIVERSIDE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THAT BECAUSE BODY SHOP ON REPAIR DAMAGE NOT REPLACED I BROUGHT MY CAR TO ANOTHER BODY SHOP BECAUSE OF ISSUES IM HAVING AND THEY SAID WORK WAS DONE INCORRECTLY. AND TRANSMISSION HAS ALWAYS WHEN I DRIVE MORE THAN 20 MILES CONTINUOUSLY WHEN I COME TO STOP AND START AGAIN THE TRANNY ALWAYS SLIPS BAD BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR AND INTO 4TH SOMETIMES. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,899. UPDATED 5/6/08 *CN UPDATED 05/06/08 *TR
I NEVER DRIVE MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE HARD, AND I AM HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WHEN THE CAR IS SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND. IT TENDS TO SLIP 40% OF THE TIME. I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED, AS WELL AS BEING TOLD ME TRANSMISSION WAS FINE BY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A DISAPPOINTMENT KNOWING I SPENT THIS MUCH MONEY ON THE CAR AND HAVING PROBLEMS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 55K MILES ON IT. *TR
CAR IS JERKING WHEN BRAKES ARE FULLY APPLIED. ALMOST BAD ENOUGH TO GET WHIPLASH. CAR WAS PURCHASED SEPT. 2006 WITH 64,000 MILES. CAR RAN GOOD FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR. AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR ABOUT 18 MONTHS, THE JERKING STARTED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALER IN MY AREA. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION. I HAD THAT DONE. THE VERY NEXT DAY THE CAR STARTED JERKING AGAIN. AS MENTIONED IN ANOTHER COMPLAINT, JERKING STARTS ONCE FLUIDS ARE WARM. I TOOK THE CAR BACK, THEY LOOK AT IT AND TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THEREFORE, THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG. I ASKED THEM IF IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION. SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT IT WASN'T THE TRANSMISSION. I TOOK THE CAR HOME. I WAS A LITTLE FRUSTRATED BY NOW. ONE MONTH LATER, I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN. I HAD THE SERVICE WRITER RIDE OUT WITH ME. HE FELT THE JERKING. I ASKED HIM IF IT COULD BE A BROKEN MOUNT. HE WROTE BROKEN MOUNT DOWN ON HIS NOTEPAD. I LEFT THE CAR WITH NISSAN. NISSAN'S SERVICE WRITER CALLED ME BACK THE NEXT DAY AND WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT, HE SAID IT WAS A BROKEN MOUNT. I TOLD THEM TO GO AHEAD AND FIX IT. THEY DID. I PAID AND TOOK THE CAR HOME. GUESS WHAT? CAR STARTED JERKING AGAIN. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. 6 MONTHS LATER, THE CAR IS STILL JERKING AWAY. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO NISSAN. I TOLD SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT THE JERKING. HE CAME OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND TOLD ME THAT IS WAS THE TRANSMISSION. SAID THAT HE HAD SEEN A LOT OF 2004 MAXIMAS COMING BACK DURING THE LAST OF 2008 WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. HE TOLD ME TO CLEAN IT UP AND SELL IT TO CARMAXX BEFORE IT GAVE ALL THE WAY OUT. IT SEEMS THAT RIGHT AT 82K WE STARTED EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION ISSUES THAT WERE EXTREMELY NOTICEABLE -I CAN SAY THAT RIGHT AROUND 60K WE HAD SLIGHT TRANSMISSION CONCERNS BUT THE DEALERSHIP DID DIAGNOSE AS SUCH, ALTHOUGH MY WIFE STRONGLY SUGGESTED TO THEM THAT IT SEEMED LIKE SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND GEARS JERKING/SHIFTING. ON THE INVOICE THEY HAVE 47,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF INSPECTION. I ALSO HAVE A INVOICE FOR 07 THAT SHOWS MILEAGE AT 47,000. OBVIOUSLY, SOME ONE NOTED THE WRONG MILEAGE. LOOKED AT TIRES SAW NO CRACKS .A FEW MONTHS LATER A TIRE WAS FLAT EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKED LIKE GOOD THREAD WEAR AND A SECOND TIRE WAS SLOWLY LOSING AIR. THE FLAT TIRE HAD SEVERAL CRACKS ON THE INNER SIDE OF TIRE SIDEWALL. WE CONTACTED THE GOODYEAR COMPANY AND THEY SUGGESTED GOING TO A GOODYEAR DEALER AND HAVE THEM INSPECT THE TIRES. AFTER GOING TO THE SUGGESTED DEALER,THEY CONFIRMED THAT ALL THE TIRES WERE CRACKING AND SUGGESTED NOT RIDING ON THEM. THE DEALER SAID THEY HAD A FILE NUMBER FOR THIS INSPECTION FROM GOODYEAR. THE DEALER ALSO SAID THE TIRE REPLACEMENT WOULD COST MORE THAN $1,100.00 AND THAT WAS ONLY AN ESTIMATE. *TR

IN JUNE, AFTER A LONG ROAD TRIP, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SO MUCH THAT THE CONTACT COULD VISIBLY SEE IT SHAKING. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE TIRE DEALER AND THEY CHANGED ONE MORE TIRE. SHE SPOKE WITH THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER AND WAS REFERRED TO THE TIRE MANUFACTURER. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER BEGAN COMPILING A CASE FOR HER BASED ON THE FAILURES. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN.
