TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. AFTER DISENGAGING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY BUT BECAME FREQUENT OVER TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TRANSMISSION JERKS ON MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA I BOUGHT THIS CAR WITH ONLY 35,000 MILES AND IM STILL PAYING FOR THIS VEHICLE. I DON'T USE IT MUCH AND I HAVE NOW 58,000 MILES ON IT. THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE RELIABLE AND I'VE GOT NOTHING. DEALER HAS NOT HELPED AND I CALLED NISSAN MOTORS OF AMERICA AND I TOLD THEM ABOUT ALL THE ONLINE COMPLAINTS AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. THIS IS A COSTLY REPAIR AND DON'T THINK ITS FAIR THAT I HAVE TO PAY 3500 ON A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BY NISSAN AND FIXED FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AND JERKING, JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER MAXIMA COMPLAINTS. *TR
FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS, AT PERIODIC TIMES, STARTS PUTTERING LIKE IT IS ABOUT TO STALL, THEN SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. DOES THIS FOR EITHER A FEW MILES OR MY ENTIRE TRIP. IT ALSO JERKS VERY HARD WHEN CHANGING GEARS, EX FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. WITH IN THE LAST MONTH THE TRANSMISSION NOW FEELS LIKE IT IS SLIPPING. RECENTLY, GOT STUCK AT A RED LIGHT IN A VERY BUSY CITY DISTRICT B/C MY CAR WAS FINE BUT THEN WOULD NOT MOVE, FINALLY JERKED BACK TO LIFE & STARTED GOING BUT AT THE NEXT STOP LIGHT DID THE SAME THING. I HAVE BEEN DOING TONS OF READING ON THIS & IT SEEMS LIKE 2004 NISSAN MAXIMAS HAVE A HORRIBLE REPUTATION ON THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. I BELIEVE DO TO ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I CANNOT AFFORD TO KEEP THROWING THOUSAND OF DOLLARS ON A CAR THAT I HAVE ALWAYS SERVICED PROPERLY & UNTIL I HOT THE 100K MILEAGE MARK NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH. I BOUGHT A USED 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE AND I'M HAVING PROBLEMS THE JERKING, THRUSTING FORWARD AND THE BAD DOWN SHIFTING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP ACT LIKE THEY NEVER HEARD OF A PROBLEM BEFORE AND THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED A FLUSH ($200), SO I DID, IT CONTINUED KICKING. I TOOK IT BACK TO NISSAN THEY DROVE IT AND TOLD ME IT NEED MOTOR MOUNTS ($2,000), I GOT THE MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED AT LOCAL AUTO SHOP. THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM WANTING ME TO SPENDING MONEY ON DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM, WHEN THEY KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE TRANSMISSION IS A RECALL ISSUE THEY DON?T WANT TO MAKE PUBLIC. I?M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN. I?VE HAD 2 ALTIMA, I HAVE A 1997 MAX AND NEVER HAD MAJOR ISSUES (I DRIVE THAT MORE THAN THE NEW CAR) AND I HAVE A 2004 ARMADA, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE ANY MORE. THEY PRIDE THEMSELVES IN NOT SELLING LEMONS...WELL I GOT ONE! I DON?T UNDERSTAND HOW I CAN HAVE 1997 MAX AND NOT HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND NEW MODEL CAR 2004 AND HAVING ALL THESE ISSUES. I CANNOT AFFORD A $3,800 TRANSMISSION AND A NEW SET OF $500 MOTOR MOUNTS.....ANOTHER PROBLEM I'VE HAD WITH THIS CAR IS THE A/C KEEPS GOING OUT...THERE IS NO LEAKS IN THE LINES BUT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE A/C PUMP SO I WAS TOLD BY A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DECELERATING FROM APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY WHILE SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO FIRST GEAR. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED FROM SECOND TO FIRST GEAR. THE FAILURE WAS MORE PREVALENT WHEN THE ENGINE WAS WARM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS SENSOR WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AND THE SYSTEM ACTIVATED ERRONEOUSLY, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CATCH ON FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA 5 SPEED AUTOMATIC: HAS SEVER TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. SLAMS IN AND OUT OF GEAR AND GETS STUCK BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH, 2ND AND 3RD. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE NISSAN FORUMS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER ERROR IN THE VALVE BODIES. NISSAN WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL AND THIS IS A SEVER SAFETY ISSUE , THE CAR CAN SLAM OUT OF GEAR AT ANY SPEED OR SHIFT DOWN A GEAR WHILE TRAVELING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS. EVERY PROBLEM I HAVE READ ABOUT SAYS THIS PROBLEM STARTS AS SOON AS 40000 MILES BUT USUALLY AROUND 75000 MILES. I WISH I NEVER BOUGHT A NISSAN AND NOW I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT AT ALL AND STILL OWE OVER 10K ON THE MAXIMA. PLEASE HELP GET THIS RECALLED AND FIXED FOR THOUSANDS OF MOTORIST. *LN

NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION ISSUES. MAXIMA TRANSMISSION JERKS INTO 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. NISSAN HAS SAID THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS NEED REPLACEMENT. I HAVE HAD TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE AS FAR AS OIL CHANGES AND TIRE ROTATIONS. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND MANY OTHER NISSAN MAXIMAS OF THE SAME YEAR WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. *TT

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STRUTS AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY HER LOCAL MECHANIC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE AS HAVING POWER TRAIN TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO BP NISSAN AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTICS ON THE TRANSMISSION AND DETERMINED THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED. NISSAN TO CALL ME BACK TODAY, WE'LL SEE. AFTER THE DEALER DID THE DIAGNOSTICS, I WAS DRIVING HOME AND WHAT A COINCIDENCE, THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" CAME ON. IT SEEMS THAT EVERY TIME I HAVE MY CAR TO THE DEALER FOR ONE THING, SHORTLY AFTER LIGHTS START COMING ON. I GUESS THEY DON'T RESET OR SOMETHING AS THEY SHOULD. *TR
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE WITH VQ35 3.5L V6 ENGINE - TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS MY MAXIMA TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A FAULTY DESIGN IN THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAINS WEARING THE TENSIONERS OUT FASTER THAN THEY SHOULD. NISSAN QUOTES ANYWHERE FROM $1,500 TO $3,000 DOLLARS TO COMPLETE REPAIR WHICH USUALLY CONSISTS OF REMOVING THE ENGINE FROM THE VEHICLE! MANY COMPLAINTS ON MULTIPLE FORUMS ONLINE FROM MANY DIFFERENT OWNERS COMPLAIN OF THIS SAME ISSUE, NORMALLY OCCURRING AROUND 60,000 MILE MARK. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ALL OF THESE VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED. THE COST FOR THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE I AM STILL FINANCING IS CATASTROPHIC! NISSAN WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM I SHOULD BE HAVING WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS STILL BEING FINANCED FOR A FEW MORE YEARS. TIMING CHAINS WERE DESIGNED TO ALLOW CUSTOMERS THE SECURITY OF NOT MESSING WITH THEM FOR WAY MORE THAN 100K MILES, OR 60K MILES RATHER! I AM SO LUCKY MINE HAS EVEN LASTED THIS LONG AND NISSAN REFUSES CUSTOMERS REGULARLY WHO ASK FOR ASSISTANCE. NISSAN NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS REPAIR SINCE THEY KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE, RELEASED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (NTB07-042C) HIGHLIGHTING THE ISSUE, AND NOTIFY THEIR TECHNICIANS OF THE FAULTY SECONDARY TIMING CHAIN DESIGN. *TR
TRANSMISSION SLAMS/BANGS FROM 2ND TO LOW GEARS AT APPROX 20 MPH DURING DOWN SHIFT. ALSO HAS HESITATION/PAUSE CAUSING A HUGE JERK/PUSH WHEN CHANGING SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AT APRROXIMATELY 20 MPH. SEEMS TO OCCUR AFTER CAR HAS WARMED OR HEATED UP AFTER ABOUT 10 - 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING. BOTH INCIDENTS HAS EXTREMELY HIGH POTENTIAL OF CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT WHICH COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE MAJOR INJURY OR EVEN LOSS OF LIFE. CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY NISSAN HAS NOT VOLUNTARILY INITIATED A RECALL FOR THIS MAJOR/SERIOUS DEFECT IN THEIR PRODUCT.

TL- THE CONTACT OWNS 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE TRANSMISSION ON THE VEHICLE IS SHIFTING VERY HARD WHEN IT SWITCHES GEAR. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC AND THE STATED THEY THINK IT IS A PISTON IN THE TRANSMISSION IS STICKING. I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA; AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHEN DRIVING FROM FIRST TO SECOND AND OCCASIONALLY THRID GEAR THE VEHICLE WILL JERK AND SOMETIMES HESISTATE WHEN SHIFITING TO THE NEXT GEAR. AFTER SEEING OVER 500 COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE, I THINK ITS ABOUT TIME SOMETHING BE DONE ABOUT THIS.

MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WAS SERVICED EVERY YEAR BY NISSAN FOR HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS EVERY YEAR AND ON NOVEMBER 24, 2010 THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WITH ONLY 103,000 MILES. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. CONSTANT JERKING DURING SHIFT CHANGE PRIOR, BUT WAS CONSTANTLY TOLD NO PROBLEM COULD BE FOUND. CAR JERKS FORWARD INTO GEAR JUST AS BRAKES ARE APPLIED CAUSING CAR TO LUNGE FORWARD. *TR
ANOTHER MOTOR MOUNT BROKE, HAD IT FIXED. ONE WEEK LATER I STARTED EXPERIENCING JERKING AND GEAR CHANGING AS I DROVE. WAS ON FREEWAY AND VEHICLE WENT INTO THIRD AND JOLTED MY UPPER BODY (HAD SORE NECK FOR ONE WEEK). ALSO EXPERIENCING 2-3, AND 3-2. PUTTING VEHICLE INTO DRIVE AND REVERSE, THE VEHICLE JERKS BADLY, REVERSE BEING THE WORST. WHEN I COME TO A STOP THE VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD VERY SHARPLY. NISSAN PAID FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS TEST $234.00 AND BUENA PARK NISSAN'S REPORT STATED THE VEHICLE NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS IS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AND WILL LET ME KNOW IF I GET A NEW TRANSMISSION AT THERE EXPENSE, I HOPE SO, I'M UNEMPLOYED SINCE 10/2010.

AFTER THE REPAIR, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN KNOCKING AND SHIFTING ABNORMALLY HARD WHEN GOING FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEARS AND ALSO WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. SAME STUFF UNTIL A WEEK LATER EVEN SMALLER 250 RPM UPTICK BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH, BUT NO HARD SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND. TOLERABLE. DRIVING ALONG HIGHWAY (4TH?) WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED AND WAS STUCK BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. WHEN I CAME TO COMPLETE STOP, AND THEN STARTED TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR WOULD MOVE FORWARD VERY VERY SLOWLY AND THEN PICK UP SPEED. BUT CAR DID NOT CHANGE GEARS. ONCE I TURN OFF ENGINE AND WAITED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, I TURNED ENGINE BACK ON AND PROBLEM WENT AWAY. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER BUT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE ISSUE. THIS CONTINUOUSLY HAPPENS TO ME AND CANNOT FIGURE WHAT TO DO. THE CAR HAS ACTUALLY COMPLETELY TURN OFF ON THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING AND HAVE AVOIDED ACCIDENTS. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA AND I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL OWNER OF THE SAME VEHICLE AS WELL AS READ SEVERAL COMMENTS ONLINE THAT ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION IN THE VEHICLE DOES SHIFT PROPERLY. WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND THEN MOVE IT BACK IN DRIVE IT DOES A HARD JERK, BEFORE IT WILL MOVE. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT CAUSING THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN THEN JERK REALLY HARD WHEN IT FINALLY DOES SHIFT. IT ALSO DOES THIS WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT; THE CAR WILL TAKE AWHILE BEFORE MOVING, BUT WILL DO A HARD JERK AGAIN. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS TRANSMISSION SHOPS RECOMMEND TRANSMISSION TO BE REPLACED COSTING BETWEEN $3,800 AND $4,000 OR YOU CAN GET YOUR TRANSMISSION FLUSHED TO SEE IF THAT WOULD HELP. I CALLED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER AND INQUIRED ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD IT WAS OUT SIDE OF THE 3 YEAR 36K MILE WARRANTY AND I WAS ON MY OWN. THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AND TOLD ME THEY WOULD SEND IT TO THE NISSAN CORPORATE OFFICE TO SEE IF THEY WOULD CONSIDER A GOODWILL ASSISTANCE. IMMEDIATELY UPON LEAVING I TOOK MY CAR TO A TRANSMISSION COMPANY AND THEY CHECKED THE OIL AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NO WAY THAT OIL CAME OUT OF MY CAR. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE OLDEST TRICKS IN THE BOOK AND THAT THIS IS PROBABLY THE SAME CONTAINER USED ON ALL CUSTOMERS THAT COME IN AND COMPLAIN. PAID TO DEALER TO REPLACE MOTOR MOUNT, REPLACED STRUTS MYSELF. THE ENGINE STILL THUNKS (TRANSMISSION PAUSES BEFORE CATCHING WITH A JERK FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, OR DRIVE TO REVERSE. A CAR DRIVEN 50K BY A 70-YEAR OLD EXPERIENCES A BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT, BUM STRUT AND BROKEN TRANSMISSION BEFORE 50K MILES. I PAID ALMOST 30K FOR THIS WHITE ELEPHANT. HAVE ALWAYS OWNED JAPANESE CARS, FIRST NISSAN. OH, DID I MENTION THE OIL LEAK FROM ENGINE OIL SEAL (48K) AND TRUNK LID SLAMMING (40K) BECAUSE THE TWO PISTON ARMS TO HOLD THE LID CAN'T HOLD THE LID UP (SINCE IT SEEMS DAYS AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED). DEALER SEEMS TO THINK I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE SERVICE SPECIALIST MENTIONED THAT THIS MODEL HAS AN ISSUE WILL "RUBBER PARTS." I GUESS THE OIL SEAL, THE STRUT SEAL, THE MOTOR MOUNT AND THE TWO TRUNK PISTONS ALL HAVE RUBBER PARTS THAT LEAKED AND/OR DISINTEGRATED. HE MAY HAVE IT ABOUT RIGHT. AM NOT SURE WHAT RUBBER PART MIGHT BE THE CAUSE OF THE MOST COSTLY PROBLEM - THE TRANSMISSION, BROKEN AT 49K MILES. WONDER WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL. *TR
