AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2005 MAXIMA WITH 65,146 MILES AND I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A VERY HARD KNOCK AND PULL WHEN THE VEHICLE SHIFTS GEARS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND ABOUT 100 COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I BELIEVE THEIR IS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURES PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *KB

OVER THE PAST YEAR SINCE FEB 2010, I HAVE BEEN HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CAR GIVES A HARD JERKS WHEN GOING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING MY MAXIMA ON THE HIGHWAY, LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING AT 20-30 KM/HR, IT COMPLETELY STOPPED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. FOR A FEW SECONDS, MADE THIS HORRIBLE NOISE AND THEN KICKED BACK INTO GEAR LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPEN. THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN 3 TIMES IN A SPAN OF 10 MIN. I DROVE TO A MISTER TRANSMISSION WHERE I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION FOR $3000-$3,500. THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT HIT AND KILLED. NISSAN IS FULLY AWARE OF THE 2005 MAXIMA TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS ARE EXPERIENCING BUT YET THEY ARE DOING ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT AGAINST NISSAN BECAUSE THEY WERE FULLY AWARE ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION DEFECT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION-SOMEONE WILL BE KILLED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 2 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE EXHIBITED A LOUD, ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO SHIFT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE VALVE BODY. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND SUGGESTED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED.THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF FAILURE AND ADVISED TO HAVE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

ACCELERATING FROM A STOP THE TRANSMISSION WILL VIOLENTLY JERK WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. IN ADDITION, SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN TO A STOP THE TRANSMISSION JERKS VIOLENTLY CHANGING GEARS FROM FIRST TO SECOND. SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE IMMEDIATELY AND AFTER APPROXIMATELY 7 TO 10 SECONDS THE VEHICLE LUNGES AS THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY ENGAGES. THE PROBLEMS OCCUR AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL MILES AND THE ENGINE IS WARM. THIS PROBLEM PRESENTED ITSELF JUST AFTER 60,000 MILES. SEARCHING THE INTERNET REVEALS HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME HAZARDOUS PROBLEM. *TR

NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,400 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000. THE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

MY CAR IS A USED 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SE 4 DOOR AND I HAVE AROUND 139,139 MILES ON THE CAR. I GOT THE CAR IN MARCH OF 2011 AND AFTER TWO MONTHS THE CAR STARTED JERKING. THE JERKING HAPPENS WHEN I PUT MY CAR FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR WHEN I'M DRIVING THE CAR SLIPS FROM THE 1-2ND GEAR AND CAUSES A HUGE JERK LIKE THE CAR IS GETTING REAR ENDED. FROM SOME EXTENDED WEB SEARCHING I SEE THAT THIS IS NOT ONLY GOING ON IN MY CAR BUT THIS SEEMS LIKE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE WOULD BE NECESSARY. *TR
MY 2005 MAXIMA 3.5 SL IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I SHIFT FROM "PARK" TO DRIVE (FORWARD OR REVERSE) THERE IS A NOTICEABLE LAG BEFORE THE GEARS CATCH. ON AN INCLINE IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE. WHILE DRIVING THERE IS A WHINE AND A DRAG FEELING AS IF THE ENGINE IS STRAINING BECAUSE IT IS IN THE WRONG GEAR. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS RUNNING THROUGH ITS GEARS THAT IT APPEARS IT EITHER MISSES A MESHING OR IT IS JUST SPINNING FREELY AND WHEN IT KICKS IN THERE IS A JERK BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR AND THEN WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN. THERE IS A JERK AND THUNK SOUND. SOME TIMES WHILE STOPPED AND SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE A NOTICEABLE LURCH FORWARD. I KNOW THAT THE TRANSMISSION/GEAR MESHING IS OFF BECAUSE MY GAS MILEAGE IS OFF. *TR

MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA IS ALSO SHOWING SIGNS OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING JERKY SHIFTS WHEN CHANGE GEARS. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN NEWBURGH NY , (WHICH I DON'T RECOMMEND!!! ) THE CAR CAME BACK WITH CODE P0797 , PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE STUCK ON. THEY LOOKED AT THE CAR AND FOUND BROKEN WIRE FROM GROUND, WHICH COST ME OVER 400$. WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME I EXPERIENCE THE SAME SENSATION OFF JERKING WHILE ACCELERATING FROM GEAR 1 TO 2 (AND 2-1).THE NEXT DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I CHECKED THE CODE IN AUTOZONE, THE SAME CODE P0797 WAS READ. BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP JUST TO FIND OUT THAT, THEY LOOK "DEEPER" IN TO THE ISSUE AND FOUND ANOTHER PROBLEM (SAME CODE !!!!) SUPPOSEDLY 2 VALVES ON TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REPLACED , THAT WILL COST ANOTHER 1200$. I TOOK THE CAR TO AMCCO JUST TO MAKE SURE I AM DOING THE RIGHT THINK AND FOUND OUT THAT THE CODE P0797 STANDS FOR MECHANICAL ISSUES NOT ELECTRICAL (NOT FOR THE BROKEN WIRE!!!!). I CALLED DEALERSHIP AND AFTER LONG CONVERSATION WITH THE MANAGER I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WILL WORK WITH ME(NOT SURE YET HOW) ,BUT BECAUSE OF MY NUMEROUS COMPLAINS HE WONT FIX THE VALVES ANYMORE HE WANT TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION. ESTIMATE 4500$ . THE MANAGER TOLD ME STRAIT UP THAT HE KNOWS MAXIMAS HAVE ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION(IT TOOK HIM ABOUT 30 MIN. TO CAME STRAIT FORWARD). HE FORGOT TO TELL ME HOW HE WILL WORK WITH ME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED UNDER 100,000 MILES DUE TO SEVERE JERKING DURING SHIFTS BETWEEN LOW GEARS. THE WORST WOULD OFTEN BE SLOWING DOWN, AS IN APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC, THE KICK FROM THE TRANSMISSION WHEN SLOWING (DOWN-SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 1ST) WOULD OFTEN CAUSE THE CAR TO NOSE-DOWN A BIT SUDDENLY, SUCH THAT DRIVERS BEHIND WOULD REACT AS IF I WERE MAKING A HARD STOP.

THE DEALER STATED THEY WERE NOT SURE IF THE TRANSMISSION DIVIDED ASSEMBLY TRAC WAS REPLACED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD BE CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. 05 MAXIMA TRANSMISSION/SHIFTING PROBLEMS MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS ABOUT 62,000 MILES AND STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF WHAT MAY BE SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD GIVE A HARD JERK/JUMP ALSO WHEN DECREASING SPEED. IT FEELS LIKE I'M BEING KICKED IN THE BACK OR REAR END. A LOUD CLUNKING SOUND. I'VE KEEP MY CAR MAINTAINED AND EVEN INSPECTED BY DIAGNOSTIC NOTHING SHOWS, NO TROUBLE CODES SHOW UP WHEN THEY PUT THE CAR ON THE SCOPE. THE VEHICLE WOULD BE GOOD FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN START ACTING UP AGAIN, CLUNKING AND SOMETIMES BUCKING LIKE A STUBBORN HORSE WHILE DRIVING. MECHANICS HAVE CHECKED TRANSMISSION OIL AND ENGINE OIL HAS BEEN CHECK AND VERY GOOD. I REALLY SUSPECT THERE IS AN UNDOCUMENTED FLAW WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AND IT SHOWED UP IN THE LATE '04 AND '05 BUILD CARS. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION JERKED WHILE EXITING THE FREEWAY AND COMING TO A STOP AT THE END OF THE OFF RAMP. IT DOWNSHIFTED IMPROPERLY AND WILL NOT COME OUT OF 5TH GEAR. IT JUMPS FROM 2ND GEAR TO 4TH OR 5TH WHEN TAKING OFF. *TR
HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY TRANSMISSION I HAVE A 2005 MAXIMA AUTO. THE TRANSMISSION JERKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND REVERSE TO DRIVE. AND ALSO WHEN IM DRIVING ABOUT 30 TO 40 MPH IT WILL REV A LITTLE BIT THEN CATCH THE GEAR REALLY HARD JERKING. *KB

ERRATIC SHIFTING, NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
TRANSMISSION, EXPERIENCING JERKING WHEN IN 1ST & 2ND GEAR. EVEN WHEN IM ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I SLOW DOWN AND TRY TO SPEED UP AGAIN MY CAR WILL HESITATE AND JUMP INTO GEAR. I ALSO WAS EXITING FREEWAY WHEN MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, I COULD NOT STEAR, LUCKY FOR ME THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. I HAD BOTH OF MY KIDS WITH ME AT THE TIME!! I BELIEVE THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND HAVE HEARD MANY NISSAN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. AND THE CORPORATION IS NOT DOING ANYTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. SLAM SHIFTING INTO REVERSE AND DRIVE, INTERMITTENT REV LIMITATIONS, HIGH REVS WITH NO TRANSMISSION ENGAGEMENT, STALL & ROUGH IDLE, FEELS LIKE SOMEONE SLAMS INTO THE BACK OF ME WHEN I COME TO A STOP, CAR REVS UP AND THEN HARD JERKS FORWARD VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, NISSAN REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC S WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE BEYOND 10 MPH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SENSOR WOULD NEED REPLACING. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURES ALL RECURRED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND, IT FEELS LIKE I AM BEING KICKED IN THE BACK OR REAR ENDED. WAS INFORMED BY ONE OF THE SERVICE MANAGERS AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE VEHICLE DOESN'T HAVE A COOLING SYSTEM FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT I COULD GET IT REPLACED OR REPAIRED BUT DOWN THE LINE, THE SAME THING IS GOING TO HAPPEN SINCE THERE IS NO WAY TO COOL THE TRANSMISSION FLUIDS.
MY CAR BEGAN JERKING VIOLENTLY WHEN SHIFTING INTO 1ST AND 2ND, JUST AS BAD OR WORSE WHEN DOWNSHIFTING IT WOULD LITERALLY JUMP AROUND IN TRAFFIC. I HAD TO DRIVE IT THIS WAY UNTIL IT BROKE COMPLETELY OR I SAVED THE 2000 TO REPAIR THE VALVE BODY. LUCKILY I CAME UP WITH THIS MONEY BEFORE I WAS STRANDED. IT WAS VERY NERVE RACKING EVERY TIME I DROVE BECAUSE IT WOULD JERK AND JUMP MAKING ME THINK I WAS GOING TO HIT SOMEONE OR AT TIMES IT FELT LIKE I'D BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND WHEN IT SLAMMED IT 1ST ON DOWNSHIFTING. ALSO EVERY TRANSMISSION SHOP IN MY TOWN THAT I CONTACTED KNEW EXACTLY THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAD SEEN IT SO MANY TIMES AND HAD A FLEET OF THEM ALREADY AT THEIR SHOP TO REPAIR. THEN WAS TOLD BY NISSAN CORPORATE THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, SO NO RECALL. SO THIS HAS COST SO MANY PEOPLE THEIR TIME AND MONEY ONLY TO GENERATE MORE PROFIT FOR NISSAN. THESE BAD VALVE BODIES THAT THEY KNOWINGLY PUT IN THESE MODELS WHICH ARE EXPENSIVE AND DANGEROUS HAD TO BE PURCHASED FROM NISSAN!!! THIS IS SO WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID MY TRANSMISSION SENSOR WAS BAD. I JUST HAD IT REPLACED TWO WEEKS AGO, AND NOW MY CAR IS BACK IS THE SHOP DOING THE SAME THING. AT ABOUT 71,000 MILES I HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING FROM USING A CODE READER, BUT FROM JUST SOME SIMPLE SHIFTING OUT OF GEARS (PARK TO DRIVE, PARK TO REV) THEY RECOMMENDED A TRANS OIL CHANGE (ABOUT $250) WHICH I DENIED, BECAUSE I LOOKED A THE OIL MYSELF AND IT WAS STILL CHERRY RED, SO THAT WAS TOO MUCH TO SPEND TO JUST "TO SEE IF THAT FIXES THE PROBLEM". SO AT ABOUT 79,000 MILES WHEN THE HARD JERKING STARTED GETTING BAD, I TOOK THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP ,WHICH THEN THEY DID RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM, AND TOLD ME IT WOULD BE ABOUT $4000 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH STUNNED ME, ESPECIALLY CAUSE I HAD JUST FINISHED PAYING OFF THE CAR AND THE WARRANTY HAD ENDED. SO I OBVIOUSLY I DENIED SUCH A COSTLY REPAIR,BUT IN TALKING TO THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP , I TOLD HIM THAT THE JERKING PROBLEM ISN'T SO BAD AT ALL WHEN I USE THE MANUAL GEARSHIFTS AND I ASKED HIM WHY. WELL HE TOLD ME THAT PROBLEM COULD ALSO BE IN THE VALVE BODY WHICH COULD BE A CHEAPER FIX,BUT THEY REPLACE WHOLE TRANSMISSION UNITS NOT PARTS, BECAUSE OF WARRANTY PURPOSES, BUT THAT HE'S SEEN QUITE A FEW SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH OTHER VEHICLES. SINCE I TOLD HIM IT WAS TOO MUCH FOR ME TO SPEND HE RECOMMENDED A TRANS REPAIR CENTER. SO WHEN I TOOK IT THERE, THEY CONFIRMED THAT JUST CHANGING OUT THE VALVE BODY WOULD BE A "BANDAID FIX" AND THAT A FULL REPLACEMENT WOULD BE NEEDED (ABOUT $3500 FROM THEM).
