THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE FLOORBOARDS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WERE COVERED WITH RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR SINCE I PURCHASED IT. I BOUGHT THE CAR AS A USED CAR WITH ABOUT 72,000 MILES ON IT WHEN I BOUGHT. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER THE CAR STARTED TO DRIVE DIFFERENTLY. I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD START TO JERK WHEN ACCELERATING. THE CAR JERKS REALLY BAD WHEN THE RPM GOES BETWEEN THE NUMBER 2 & 3. THERE ARE TIMES WHERE I CAN BE PUSHING ALL THE WAY DOWN ON MY GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR TAKES FOREVER TO ACCELERATE. AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR I READ REVIEWS ONLINE THAT SHOW A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THESE ISSUES. I TOOK MY CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT TRANSMISSION SHOPS THAT SPECIALIZE IN TRANSMISSION AND THEY REFUSED TO EVEN WORK ON THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY PROBLEMS THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE THERE WORK. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF ANYONE WAS TO PULL OUT AND THE CAR WON'T ACCELERATE OR YOU PULL OUT TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND YOUR CAR STARTS TO GO THEN STOPS AND JERKS BEFORE SHIFTING INTO GEAR CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I HEAR ABOUT RECALLS FOR ALL KINDS OF OTHER PROBLEMS SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW NISSAN HASN'T GOTTEN IN TROUBLE FOR MAKING THESE HORRIBLE CARS. *TR
I AM EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS IN MY 2005 MAXIMA. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 54000 MILES TO DATE AND IS STARTING TO SLIP GEARS IN BETWEEN 1-2 AND 2-3 WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED; THIS ALSO OCCURS WHEN SWITCHING IN REVERSE. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE FIXED SINCE IT CAN BE DETRIMENTAL TO FELLOW DRIVERS ON THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE FACT OF THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE CAR TO LUNGE FORWARD WHEN IN THE ACT OF SWITCHING GEARS. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE WELL DOCUMENTED AT THIS POINT TO NISSAN CORPORATE AS WELL AS THE NHTSA DATABASE AND SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. I BELIEVE A RECALL AT THIS POINT SHOULD BE IN ORDER DUE TO THE MASS DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS OF THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 20 MPH HE NOTICED THE GEARS WOULD SLIP BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND WHICH ALSO INCLUDED A HARSH JERKING MOTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 114,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,500.
VEHICLE STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF TRANSMISSION TROUBLE WITH LESS THAN 68,000 MILES DRIVEN. INITIALLY, RANDOM REVVING/LAGGING WAS LESS NOTICEABLE AND JERKING WAS MINIMAL. THE PROBLEM PROGRESSIVELY GOT MORE FREQUENT AND SHIFTING BECAME HARSHER AND JERKING WOULD RESULT IN A HARD CLUNKING NOISE. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR A DIAGNOSIS. RECOMMENDATION WAS FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION, MOTOR MOUNTS AND TIMING CHAIN SERVICE TO REMEDY A WHINING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE WAS FOR 6YEARS/75,000 MILES SO TIME CONSTRAINT HAD EXPIRED ALTHOUGH MILEAGE WAS WELL UNDER. THUS, DEALER WOULD NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY SO I CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE FOR ASSISTANCE. THEY WERE ALSO UNWILLING TO COVER REPLACEMENT OF TRANSMISSION EVEN WITH THIS BEING SUCH A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE/MODEL YEAR 04-06. *TR
I AM HAVING VERY BAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SE WITH APPROXIMATELY 70K MILES. I BEGAN NOTICING THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING OVER THE SUMMER MONTHS. IN THE BEGINNING OF SEPTEMBER, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO BE STUCK IN 4TH GEAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO A SHOP THAT SPECIALIZED IN TRANSMISSION, THEY REPLACED 2 ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE TRANSMISSION WHICH REPAIRED THE IMMEDIATE PROBLEM AND MADE THE CAR DRIVABLE, HOWEVER THE TRANSMISSIONS FOR THE 2004-2005 NISSAN MAXIMA APPEAR TO BE KNOWN FOR EARLY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I ALSO OWN A 1998 NISSAN ALTIMA AND HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT FUNCTION LIKE YOU WOULD EXPECT A 70K NISSAN TRANSMISSION TO PERFORM - IT SLIPS, HESITATES AND STUTTERS. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT HERE. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK TODAY, THE CAR WAS ONCE AGAIN ACTING UP AND I WILL, UNFORTUNATELY, ONCE AGAIN, BE TAKING IT TO THE SHOP. WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FOWARD A LOUD THUD COULD BE HEARD. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER SOME RESEARCHING THE FAILURE WAS FOUND TO BE IN THE SHIFT SOLENOID. THE VEHICLES GOES INTO LIMP MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT. ONE MONTH LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THIS NISSAN HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES WHERE IT JERKS FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, UPSHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND, AND SECOND TO THIRD. THE VEHICLE ALSO JERKS WHEN DOWN SHIFTING FROM THIRD TO SECOND, SECOND TO FIRST AND FIRST TO PARK IS DELAYED IN SHIFTING. THIS ISSUE IS A SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO AFFECTING THE ABILITY TO STOP THE VEHICLE AS THE VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS INDICATE STOPPING DISTANCE FOR THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE. THE ISSUE IS HIGHLY UNPREDICTABLE AS TO THE SEVERITY OF THE JERK THE CAR WILL EXPERIENCE WHICH HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO EITHER NOT STOP OR SLIDE IN INCLEMENT WEATHER SUCH AS SNOW. *TR

I BOUGHT THIS CAR LESS THAN A WEEK AGO. IT'S ALREADY BEGINNING TO JERK AND CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN 1ST AND SECOND GEAR. YESTERDAY IT BEGAN TO REV AND THEN JUMP BACK INTO GEAR WHENEVER I TRIED TO PULL AWAY FROM A STOPPED POSITION. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND HE PAID $1700 + TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT BECAUSE HE FELT BAD FOR SELLING ME A JUNK CAR!. BUT FROM WHAT I'M HEARING FROM OTHER DRIVERS WITH THE SAME CAR A REBUILD ONLY HELPS FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS OR SO THEN THE CAR ACTS UP AGAIN.... I'M IN THE U.S. MARINES AND I NEED A RELIABLE CAR TO GO HOME AND CHECK ON MY SICK FATHER EVERY SO OFTEN AND THIS ISN'T SEEMING SO RELIABLE. *TR

MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. 1. THERE IS A MAJOR DELAY AFTER THE SHIFT LEVER IS PUT IN DRIVE 2. BETWEEN 1ST TO 2ND GEARS THE CAR CLUNKS AND JERKS INTO GEAR CAUSING THE TIRES SCREECH 3. AFTER ABOUT ONE HOUR OF DRIVING AND I COME TO A STOP, THE CAR WILL NOT TO MOVE OR RESPOND AS IT SHOULD. I CAN BE AT 3000 RPM AT A STOP SIGN AND THE CAR WILL JUST CREEP ALONG UNTIL IT BUILDS UP SPEED. IF I DON'T LET OFF OF THE GAS AFTER SPEED STARTS BUILDING UP TO 20 MPH, IT WELL CLUB AND JERK INTO GEAR ALMOST CAUSING THE CAR WILL TO TURN OUT OF CONTROL. *TR

JUST AFTER THE VEHICLE PASSED 100,000 MILES, IT BEGAN TO SHIFT ROUGHLY BETWEEN ALL GEARS. THE CAR "BUCKS" WHEN SHIFTING, AND SOMETIMES SEEMS TO "MISS" A SHIFT, REVVING THE ENGINE BEFORE SETTLING INTO GEAR. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND FOUND MANY OTHER MAXIMA OWNERS WITH CARS OF ABOUT THE SAME AGE AND MILEAGE AS MINE, INDICATING THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND NOT SPECIFIC TO MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE. *TR

IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A BURNING ELECTRICAL ODOR INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT LATER CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND NOTICED THAT IT HAD BECOME ABNORMALLY DARK IN COLOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY DETECTED THAT THE TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED INTERNAL DAMAGE AND THE TRANSMISSION VALVE WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.
I WAS ABOUT TO PULL OFF FROM A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN I HIT THE GAS IT WAS LIKE I WAS IN NEUTRAL. THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. CARS WERE BLOWING AT ME AND ALL. I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW THAT THE CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE. THE ABS, BRAKE, SERVICE ENGINE AND TNS/INS? LIGHTS WERE ON AND MY GAS HAND HAD DROPPED FROM 3/4 OF A TANK DOWN TO EMPTY AND THE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN WILL WE GET A RECALL FOR THE 2004 - 2005 MAXIMA TRANSMISSIONS? THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A KNOWN AND WIDE SPREAD ISSUE. I'VE FOUND AND READ MANY MANY REPORTS ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS SLIPPING IN AND OUT OF GEAR, HARD SHIFTING (UP AND DOWN), HESITATING AND HARD JERK WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE, AND BREAKING MOTOR MOUNTS. MINE STARTED THIS JUST UNDER 100,000 MILES. MOST CASES I'VE READ REPORTED THIS STARTING AROUND 60,000 MILES.
