EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED FLASHING. I TOOK MY CAR INTO MY MECHANIC AND HE RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL TO FIND THE FAILURE. HE TOLD ME THE OCCUPANT SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD FAILED, DISABLING THE ENTIRE AIR BAG SYSTEM. HE QUOTED ME $1,243.00 FOR THE REPAIR ($895 ? PARTS, $348 ? LABOR). I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO SEE IF THE FAILURE WAS COVERED BY MY WARRANTY OR IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE PART, BUT WAS TOLD NO. NISSAN RECORDED MY COMPLAINT AND OPENED A CASE # FOR ANY FUTURE RECALL CAMPAIGNS. NISSAN THEN INSTRUCTED ME TO TAKE MY CAR INTO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER, SO THEY COULD RUN THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL AND PROVIDE AN OFFICIAL FAILURE REPORT. AFTER I RECEIVED THE REPORT, I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO SEE IF THEY COULD ASSIST IN PAYING FOR THE REPAIR. ON 12/15, I DROPPED MY CAR OFF AT EXECUTIVE JEEP/NISSAN IN NORTH HAVEN. THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC AND SENT ME A COPY OF THE REPORT. I CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AGAIN, AND TOLD THEM EXECUTIVE HAD THE REPORT INFORMATION THEY REQUIRED. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS CONTACTED EXECUTIVE, REVIEWED MY CASE, AND INFORMED ME ON 12/19 THEY WOULD OFFER NO ASSISTANCE. EXECUTIVE JEEP/NISSAN QUOTED $1476.30 FOR THE REPAIR. MY CAR HAD 74K MILES ON IT AT THE TIME THIS FAILURE OCCURRED. THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED A FEW TIMES A MONTH AT BEST. SINCE THIS IS AN INTERNAL PART, IT IS NOT EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS, NOR IS IT SUBJECT TO MAJOR WEAR AND TEAR. THE FAILURE HAS DISABLED THE ENTIRE AIR BAG SYSTEM IN MY CAR, WHICH IS QUITE ALARMING. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NISSAN WOULD ENGINEER THEIR CAR?S AIR BAG SYSTEM TO COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHEN ONE COMPONENT FAILS. ALSO, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NISSAN'S WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER A FAILURE TO A MAJOR SAFETY COMPONENT IN THEIR CAR. THEIR WARRANTY DOES COVER THE SEAT BELTS, BUT NOT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM?? *TR
I AM EXPERIENCING SHUDDERING/HESITATION AT TAKE OFF. NO WARNING LIGHTS SHOWING SO I CALLED WORLD CARE NISSAN IN SAN ANTONIO, TX AND WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL. THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN AND SEEMS MORE PRONOUNCED NOW. *TR
THE DASHBOARD TO MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA IS MELTING AND IT IS CRACKING AROUND ALL THE AC VENTS AND AROUND THE RADIO & DISPLAY CONSOLE.
I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK THAT IS MALFUNCTIONING. IT IS CURRENTLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR ONLY BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ONLINE, I EXPECT TO BEGIN HAPPENING ON OTHER DOORS AS THE ACTUATOR'S BEGIN FAILING. NORMALLY THIS MAY BE A SIMPLE ANNOYANCE BUT SINCE THIS VEHICLE USES A KEY FOB IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO QUICKLY UNLOCK THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND THERE IS NO WAY TO QUICKLY SECURE THE VEHICLE. THERE ARE SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE EITHER OF THESE SITUATIONS COULD PUT THE SOMEONE AT RISK AND IN HARMS WAY, ESPECIALLY IF THE DRIVER IS RELYING ON THE SAFETY MECHANISM TO ENSURE CHILDREN DO NOT ACCIDENTALLY OPEN A DOOR THAT HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY SECURED WHILE TRAVELING. THE LOCKING AND UNLOCKING OF A VEHICLE IS INTENDED AND DESIGNED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE, IT'S CONTENTS, AND IT'S OCCUPANTS SAFE AND IS HEAVILY RELIED ON IN TODAY'S ENVIRONMENT. I HAVE SEEN ESTIMATES TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE FROM OVER $500 TO ALMOST $2,000, A FAIRLY EXPENSE REPAIR FOR THE VEHICLE OWNER BUT A FAIRLY INEXPENSIVE COST FOR THE MANUFACTURER. ALTHOUGH THIS MAY SEEM LIKE A STRETCH TO CALL THIS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT FOR WHAT OTHER PURPOSE ARE DOOR LOCKS INTENDED? IT IS MY REQUEST THAT THE MANUFACTURER ISSUE A RECALL FOR FAULTY DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR'S. *TR
IN AUGUST OF 2014 I GOT IN MY CAR, 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA, STARTED IT. MEMORY IS SET FOR MY DRIVERS SEAT. SEAT SET AS NORMAL. STEERING/TILT DID NOT MOVE AS IT IS SET TO MY POSITION. DID NOT MOVE IN, OUT, UP NOR DOWN TRIED TO SET IT, DID NOT WORK MANUALLY EITHER. TOOK MY CAR TO DEALER, THEY SAID THE MOTOR HAS GONE OUT IN STEER/TILT AND IT WILL COST CLOSE TO $500.00 TO GET FIXED. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN IS LOCKED IN THE DOWN POSITION MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER WITH THE WHEELS HITTING MY KNEES AND EXTREMELY HARD ENTERING AND EXITING THE VEHICLE. I AM UNABLE TO ADJUST THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN AT ALL. THERE IS A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE COLUMN, WHICH SEEMS TO BE THE MOTOR OR ELECTRICAL COMPONENT/ GEARS. *TR
TILT AND TELESCOPIC MOTORS BOTH FAILED LOCKING THE STEERING WHEEL IN AN AWKWARD AND UNCOMFORTABLE POSITION FOR DRIVING. MOTORS CONTINUE TO TRY AND RUN THUS DEPLETING THE BATTERY OF ENERGY WHILE THE CAR'S ENGINE IS OFF. *JS
THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE THE STRUTS I PURCHASED THE CARE FROM ALANTIC NISSAN SEPTEMBER 2009. I TOOK THE CARE TO GET CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ORIGANAL STRUTS WERE ON THE CARE YET ALANTIC NISSAN SAID THAT THEY PROFORMED THE RECALL DECEMBER 2009. MY SPOUSE AND I DID NOT TAKE THE CARE TO GET THIS DONE BECAUSE WE WERE NOT AWARE NEVER TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. THE CAMPAIGN #09V358000. I ONLY FOUND THIS OUT BECAUSE AT SERVICE IN NISSAN 112 I WAS TOLD. I WAS TOLD THE NISSAN IS NOT REQUIRED TO TELL CONSMERS ABOUT RECALL NHTSA IS REQUIRDED TO DO SO. IF SO WAS I NOT INFORMED THAT THE TRANMISSON COVERAGE WAS CHANGED TO 120,000 THE STEERING WAS RECALLED AND MOTORS IN THE SEAT. *TR
ON JULY 8, 2014 (10 DAYS AFTER THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED AND ONLY THE 4TH TIME I HAD DRIVEN ON THE NEW TIRES) I WAS DRIVING MY SON TO PHYSICAL THERAPY (ABOUT 15 MILES AWAY) ON THE INTERSTATE IN BATON ROUGE, THE CAR WAS FEELING A LIL SHAKY BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ROAD CONDITIONS KNOWING I HAD JUST PURCHASED NEW TIRES. WHEN WE WERE RETURNING HOME MY TIRE LIGHT CAME ON AND I STOPPED TO LOOK AT THE TIRES. I GOT OUT LOOKED FOR A FLAT DID NOT SEE ANY LOW TIRES AND THEN RETURNED TO DRIVING HOME. WHEN I ENTERED THE INTERSTATE MY CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AGAIN AND I STAYED AT A 50 MPH SPEED JUST HOPING TO MAKE IT HOME, AFTER ABOUT 5 MILES THE TIRE BLEW OUT AND STARTED SLAPPING THE SIDE OF MY CAR, I WAS LOSING CONTROL OF THE CAR WITH MY 10 YEAR OLD AS A PASSENGER. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE SAFELY BUT VERY SCARED AND CONFUSED. AS I EXAMINED THE DAMAGE I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TIRE, IT WAS UNROLLED FROM THE RIM, IT WAS PEELED IN A STRIP. I WAS NOW STRANDED ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY CHILD IN OVER 100 DEGREE TEMPERATURE. WE RETURNED THE TIRE TO SAMS CLUB WHERE WE PURCHASED IT, THEY ORDERED ME A NEW TIRE AND TOLD US TO CALL GOODYEAR ABOUT THE DAMAGED TIRE, THE SERVICE CENTER SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN A TIRE PEEL OFF THE RIM LIKE THAT ONE. WE FILED A CLAIM JUST AS GOOD YEAR ADVISED US TO DO AND SHIPPED THE DAMAGED TIRE. AT THIS POINT I AM DRIVING ON A SPARE TIRE AND HAVE DAMAGE TO MY CAR THAT WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION. I HAD TO TAKE A DAY OFF WORK TO GET 2 QUOTES FOR THE DAMAGE AND I RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL STATING THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT DEFECTIVE. THE GOODYEAR CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT WAS RUDE AND THE MOST UNHELPFUL PERSON I HAVE EVER SPOKEN WITH! I AM A HARD WORKING MIDDLE CLASS AMERICAN WOMAN AND THIS IS THE MOST UNJUST THING I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. I AM MENTALLY AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR FOR A LONG DISTANCE AND NOW I HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE A DAMAGED CAR. GOODYEAR IS THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER HAD DEALINGS WITH. PLEASE HELP! *TR
MOTOR IN STEERING COLUMN FAILED AND CAUSED THE STEERING COLUMN TO JERK AND MAKE A GRINDING NOISE WHEN EVER THE STEERING COLUMN MOVED OR WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENED. NISSAN HAD A SERVICE AND TECHNICAL BULLETIN (NTB09-094) ON THIS ITEM DATED SEPTEMBER 23, 2009. SO THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN DONE ON THIS. I EVEN HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND IN MY WARRANTY IT STATES IT SHOULD BE COVERED BY NISSAN AND THEY REFUSE TO COVER IT. *TR
THE CAR HAS POWER. ALL ELECTRONICS SEEM TO WORK, HOWEVER, WHEN I DEPRESS THE BRAKE AND PUSH THE IGNITION BUTTON THE CAR WILL NOT START. THE FIRST TIME I TRY TO START IT, IT WILL TURN OVER VERY SLOWLY. THEN EVERY TIME AFTER THAT, IT WILL GIVE ME A METALLIC CLICKING SOUND BUT WILL NOT TURN OVER. I WENT THROUGH THE COLD AND HOT START UP PROCEDURES TO NO AVAIL. THE CAR STILL HAS POWER, I.E. IF I PLACE THE BUTTON TO THE ON POSITION EVERYTHING WILL TURN ON ELECTRONICALLY, BUT THE CAR STILL WILL NOT START. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW. THE BATTERY IS AN INTERSTATE BATTERY AND HAS BEEN TESTED AS GOOD. THE ONLY TIME THE CAR WILL START NOW IS IF I GET A JUMP. *TR
I PULLED OUT OF MY COMPLEX I HAD ONLY DRIVEN 1/4 OF A MILE AT A RATE OF 40 MPH AND MY VEHICLE STARTED RUNNING VERY ROUGH THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND ALL THE SUDDEN MY VEHICLE LOST POWER I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING AND VERY HARD TO BRAKE. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE GOING AGAIN SO I DROVE RIGHT BACK HOME. I REFERENCED MY OWNERS MANUAL AND IT STATED WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS FLASHING TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST SERVICE FACILITY. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE NEXT DAY. THE SERVICE DEPT NOTIFIED ME THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. THEY STATED THIS IS VERY UNUSUAL AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT MY FAULT AND WHEN THEY TOOK THE TOP PART OF THE ENGINE OFF MY MOTOR IS VERY CLEAN AND THEY CAN TELL THAT I TOOK GREAT CAR OF MY VEHICLE. I CONTACTED NISSAN TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER THE REPAIR SINCE THE VEHICLE IS JUST 3,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. APPROX 48 HRS LATER NISSAN CALLED TO ADVISE ME THEY CAN'T HELP ME WITH THE COST OF MY REPAIRS OVER $9,000. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDLESS TO SAY VERY UNFAIR FOR THE CONSUMER. *TR
VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT GOING AT A MINIMUM SPEED. DRIVER THAT HIT THE MAXIMA WAS ON LAPTOP THUS PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF THE MAXIMA WHICH WAS TRAVELING THE FULL SPEED LIMIT. MAXIMA WAS STRUCK ON DRIVERS SIDE CAUSING THE WHOLE FRONT OF CAR TO BE OBLITERATED. BENT THE FRAME FROM THE FRONT OF CAR ALL THE WAY BACK TO BACK DOOR. CRACKED DRIVER SIDE CHROME RIM IN HALF AND PUSHED THE WHEEL WELL UP INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR AT THE PLACE THAT YOU REST YOUR FOOT WHICH CAUSED JAMMED THE DRIVERS LEG UP INTO THE PELVIS. NOT ONE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, WHICH LEFT WHICH CAUSED THE DRIVER TO SUFFER FROM MAJOR HEAD TRAUMA AND PASSENGER'S NECK WAS FRACTURED. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DEFECT. THE DRIVER THAT HIT THE MAXIMA, HIS VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS ALL CAME OUT. STEERING WHEEL PASSENGER SIDE AND ALL OF THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. SO MANY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHIN THAT CHRYSLER YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A PRODUCTION WAS GOING ON ALL THE CURTAINS THAT WERE POPPING OUT. NISSAN, I DO NOT TRUST THEM AND NOT CONSIDER ANY OF THERE VEHICLES SAFE.
IN MAY 2014, A ROARING SOUND SUDDENLY STARTED, GOT WORSE, & THEN WE HAD TO HAVE THE DEALER REPLACE A WHEEL BEARING. THE SOUND QUIETENED A LITTLE BUT WAS STILL THERE AT ALL SPEEDS. THEN, WE HAD TO HAVE THE DEALER REPLACE ANOTHER WHEEL BEARING A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER. IN LATE AUGUST 2014, WE AGAIN HEARD THE NOISE & HAD TO REPLACE THE 3RD WHEEL BEARING. IN MY 61 YEARS, THIS IS THE ONLY CAR WITH WHICH I HAVE EVER HAD A DEFECTIVE WHEEL BEARING PROBLEM. EACH TIME, I AM OUT OF POCKET NEARLY $500! I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW AND HAVE BABIED IT; THERE IS NO REASON BESIDES FAULTY PARTS TO CAUSE THIS. FROM READING ONLINE, I SEE A PATTERN OF FAULTY WHEEL BEARINGS IN NISSAN MAXIMAS. I COULD OVERLOOK 1 BAD WHEEL BEARING, BUT 3???? AND NOW I AM WORRIED #4 MAY BE LURKING. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA S-MODEL AND I WAS DRIVING HOME AND I HAD MY SUNROOF TILTED. THE SUNROOF GLASS MADE A LOUD NOISE AND THE GLASS SHATTERED ABOVE MY HEAD. I LOOKED FOR SIGNS OF AN OBJECT HITTING THE TOP OF MY CAR BUT NONE WERE PRESENT. THE GLASS SHATTERED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR OUTWARDS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH KUMHO ECSTA 4X TIRES, SIZE 245/40/19. THE CONTACT STATED THE TIRE WALLS CRACKED AND WERE CRACKING ACROSS THE TREAD. THE TIRES WERE TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE DID NOT CONSTITUTE A HAZARD. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. UPDATED 8/27/14*CN UPDATED 09/17/2014 *JS
ON 3/3/14 MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA WOULD NOT START. SYMPTOMS OF THIS ISSUE - KEY RECOGNIZED(UNLOCKS AND WHEN INSERTED INTO KEY FOB PORT THERE IS A NOTIFICATION) - PRESSING START BUTTON DOES NOT WORK, LOCKED REMAINS ILLUMINATED(EG ACC AND ON DO NOT ACTIVATE) - NISSAN INTELLIGENT KEY WARNING LIGHT - ALL LIGHTS COME ON IN THE CAR - BRAKE LIGHTS WORK - ELECTRONIC SEATS STILL MOVE I EXPERIENCED A DEAD BATTERY JUST 3 MONTHS EARLIER SO I WAS SURE THIS WAS NOT THE ISSUE. PLUS I HAD A NEW BATTERY. I GOOGLED A COMBINATION OF THE SYMPTOMS WITH MY MODEL/YEAR AND MANY LINKS CAME UP. TURNED OUT TO BE THE "STEERING LOCK FAILURE" WHICH WAS UNDER A EXTENDED WARRANTY. 5 YEARS OR 72 K MILES. WORST PART OF THE EXPERIENCE WAS DEALING WITH THE PEOPLE AT THE MIDWAY NISSAN ON BELL ROAD DEALERSHIP IN PHOENIX. THE EXPERIENCE LEFT ME KNOWING THAT THEY CARE MORE ABOUT MAKING MONEY TODAY THAN EARNING RETURN CUSTOMERS. LUCKILY THEY WARRANTY PAID FOR EVERYTHING. BUT THEY WERE WILLING AND READY TO SCREW ME OVER. *TR
I STOPPED AT A STORE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. WHEN I RETURNED TO MY CAR TO LEAVE, MY CAR WOULD NOT START. THE ANTI THEFT AND THE YELLOW KEY SYMBOL WAS BLINKING. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT LOCK SO I COULD PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO START THE CAR. MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY FOUND THAT THE STEERING LOCK ASSEMBLY WAS FAULTY. THE PART WAS COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I AM A FEMALE AND I WAS ALONG. THIS COULD BECOME A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND I THINK THE 2009 MAXIMA SHOULD BE A PART OF A RECALL THAT IS FOR THE 2009 ALTIMA AS WELL. THE SAME PROBLEM! *TR
MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA DOES IT SEEM TO READ MY KEY ANYMORE. IT HAS A ORANGE LIGHT ON THE TOP LEFT CORNER OF MY DASHBOARD. THE CAR OBVIOUSLY RECOGNIZES THE KEY FOR I AM STILL ABLE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK MY CAR. IT WILL NOT TURN OVER AT ALL. WHEN I PRESS THE PUSH START BUTTON, THE ONLY LIGHT THAT COMES ON IS THE LOCK LIGHT. IT ALL DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL. I WASN'T DOING ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. ONE SECOND IT WAS WORKING, ANOTHER SECOND IT WASN'T. I FIND THIS HIGHLY INCONVENIENT THAT NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AT THE DEALERSHIPS ONLY PROVIDES AID MONDAYS THOUGH SATURDAYS AS IF PEOPLE ONLY HAVE ISSUES WITH THEIR CARS ON MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY. THERE SHOULD BE A 24/7 HELP HOTLINE AT LEAST. THIS IS MY SECOND ISSUE WITH THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A DEAD BATTERY IN MY KEY FOB. I WENT TO GET A NEW BATTERY FOR IT AND IT STILL DIDN'T WORK. IT'S ALMOST LIKE IT WORKS WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT. *TR
I RETURNED TO MY PARKED CAR AFTER COMMUTING ON THE TRAIN HOME FROM WORK AND TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE. IT WAS A BITTER COLD EVENING AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3 DEGREES. WHEN I TRIED TO START THE CAR, THE KEY ICON SHOWED UP ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE STEERING WAS LOCKED AND PUSH BUTTON IGNITION DID NOT START THE CAR. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID IT IS A NISSAN PROBLEM AND THE PART IS ON AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THE WELL-KNOWN AND ONGOING ISSUES. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO MY NISSAN DEALER TO HAVE THEM INSPECT IT AND REPAIR IT. THEY ARE INSTRUCTED TO SEARCH FOR ANY RECALLS OR WARRANTY WHEN ENTERING THE VIN NUMBER. I'VE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND IT SEEMS LIKE A VERY COMMON ISSUE. WHEN I AM DRIVING MY CAR, MY "FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG AND STATUS LIGHT" IS ON; WHICH INDICATED THAT THE AIRBAG IS OFF, WHEN THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN THE FRONT SEAT. IT WILL TURN OFF IS SOMEONE IS IN THE SEAT INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG IS ON. ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS MANUAL PGS 1-44 AND 1-45, "UNOCCUPIED PASSENGER'S SEAT: THE LIGHT IS OFF AND THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG IS OFF AND WILL NOT INFLATE IN A CRASH." "USING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG STATUS LIGHT, YOU CAN MONITOR WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG IS AUTOMATICALLY TURNED OFF WITH THE SEAT OCCUPIED. THE LIGHT WILL NOT ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS UNOCCUPIED." I READ THE OWNERS MANUAL BEFORE AND AFTER I TOOK MY CAR THERE JUST SO I WOULD KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE INSPECTION. I PARKED AND WENT INTO LOCAL POST OFFICE. GOT BACK IN MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START. THREE DAYS LATER THE SERVICE GENTLEMAN CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS INDEED THE STEERING LOCK RELEASE THAT'D GONE OUT AND IT WAS $775 + TAX TO GET IT FIXED. I'M BAFFLED BECAUSE MY CAR IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THE END RESULT IS THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. THE COST FOR THIS REPAIR IS $975. I WOULDN'T MIND SPENDING THIS ON TIRES AND BRAKES, BUT THE FAILURE OF THIS MOTORS SO EARLY IN THE LIFE OF THIS CAR IS UNACCEPTABLE. I AM SURPRISED OF NISSAN NOT HAVING INITIATED A RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THIS. VERY DISAPPOINTING. THIS IS MY THIRD NISSAN BUT BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY SEEM TO CARE FOR ISSUES OF THEIR CUSTOMERS IT MAYBE THE LAST ONE. *TT
MY STEERING TILT STOPPED WORKING ABOUT A WEEK AGO (AUGUST 2013). THE POWER TILT MAKES A GRINDING SOUND AND WILL NOT GO INTO THE UP POSITION BUT RATHER GETS STUCK ON THE LOWEST LEVEL. I HAD TO FORCE IT BACK UP MANUALLY IN ORDER TO ENTER/EXIT THE CAR AND TO DRIVE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL AT THE PROPER LEVEL. I TURNED OFF THE COMFORT SETTINGS AND HAVE TRIED NOT TO CHANGE ANY OF THE OTHER SETTINGS UNTIL I CAN GET THIS ISSUE LOOKED AT BY THE DEALERSHIP OR FIXED. MY HUSBAND AND I BOTH DRIVE THE VEHICLE SO THIS HAS BEEN AN INCONVENIENCE FOR BOTH OF US. EVEN WITH THE COMFORT SETTINGS OFF, THE TILT STILL CHANGES POSITION AT TIMES (POSSIBLY BECAUSE OF UNLOCKING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR? I READ SOMETHING ABOUT THAT HAPPENING FROM ONE OF THE FORUMS). I PURCHASED MY NISSAN AS A PRE-OWNED CERTIFIED CAR IN APRIL OF 2012 WITH 32,900 MILES ON IT. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR JUST OVER A YEAR SO THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING. I'VE READ SEVERAL FORUMS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT THAT NISSAN HAS NOT ADDRESSED IT WITH A RE-CALL. I AM HOPING MY ISSUE WILL BE COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND IF SO, IT SHOULD ONLY BE A DEDUCTIBLE OF $50.00 ACCORDING TO WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ON THE FORUMS. STEERING WHEEL MADE GRINDING NOISE THEN FROZE IN LOWEST POSITION. *TR
GOT IN THE CAR TO GO HOME FROM WORK AND PUSHED THE START BUTTON. THE STEERING COLUMN WENT DOWN LIKE NORMAL THEN A GRINDING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS MADE. AT THAT POINT, THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE RAISED MANUALLY WITH QUITE A BIT OF PRESSURE. SO MUCH SO I WAS ALMOST AFRAID THE AIRBAG MAY DEPLOY. HAS NEVER WORKED, LIKE IT DID WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW, SINCE. STILL MAKES A NOISE WHEN ITS SUPPOSE TO GO UP OR DOWN BUT NEVER MOVES ON ITS OWN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION HEARD FROM THE TOP OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT SUN ROOF WAS SHATTERED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT SUN ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
I BOUGHT MY MAXIMA LAST YEAR AND NOTICED MY DASH WAS STICKY TRIED TO WIPE IT OFF WITH A WET RAG USING WATER AND IT WOULD NOT GO AWAY IT IS NOW SPREADING TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE THE RESIN IN THE DASH MATERIAL IS MELTING. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A THING IT I LOOKS LIKE I HAVE WATER ON MY DASH. WHEN I AM DRIVING INTO THE SUN THE REFLECTION OF THE AREA SHINES ON TO MY WINDSHIELD ALMOST BLINDING ME. NO OTHER PART OF THE INTERIOR LOOKS THIS WAY. I AM CONCERNED WITH DRIVING IT AN DO NOT SEE THIS TO BE SOMETHING I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE. I HAD THE DRIVER SEAT FRAME REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY IN 2011, SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, THE SEAT BACK TILT FAILED, THEN SHORTLY THERE AFTER, THE SEAT FORWARD, BACK, UP, AND DOWN FAILED. A BIT LATER THE DRIVER SEAT FRAME IS AGAIN JUST AS BAD AS WHEN IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN! *TR
WAS DRIVING AND STEERING WHEEL STARTED GRINDING AND MOVING. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND COST OVER $800.00 TO REPLACE TWO MOTORS STEERING WHEEL. THEY TURNED IT OFF SO IT STOPPED MOVING ON IT'S OWN. STILL MAKING GRINDING NOISE. THEY NEED TO ISSUE A RECALL AS THIS HAS HAPPENED TO HUNDREDS OF CARS AND IS CAUSING ACCIDENTS. SHAME ON NISSAN FOR JUST WANTING TO COLLECT THE MONEY, BECAUSE YOU CAN'T EVEN ORDER THE PARTS ON YOUR OWN TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE REPAIR. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 MAXIMA WITH 78,000 MILES. ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STARTED JERKING WHEN SHIFTING FROM GEAR 1 TO GEAR 2. ALSO JERKING FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE. AFTER STOPPING, THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE AND THE RPMS SKY ROCKET UNTIL THE GEAR ENGAGES. I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED BUT THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHERE STOPPING AND STARTING IS REQUIRED DUE TO STOP SIGNS AND LIGHTS. IT COULD ALSO RESULT IN ANOTHER CAR REAR-ENDING ME BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE IMMEDIATELY WHEN ACCELERATING. *TR
