I WENT TO START MY VEHICLE AND AN ORANGE LIGHT THAT READ "KEY" POPPED UP ON THE DASHBOARD. ON MY IGNITION BUTTON THE "LOCK" WORD WAS LUMINATED. MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, NOR TURN ON ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. I WAS STRANDED FROM PICKING UP MY DAUGHTER, WHICH CAUSED CHAOS AND UNNECESSARY OBSTACLES THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY ISSUE. MY VEHICLE WAS IN THE OFF POSITION, PARKED AFTER ONLY 2 HOURS AFTER LAST USE. SCHOOLS CAN CALL CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES IF YOU DO NOT PICK UP YOUR KID BY A CERTAIN TIME. THAT PROVES THAT IF I DIDN'T FIND A WAY TO GET MY DAUGHTER PICKED UP IN A TIMELY MANNER SHE WOULD'VE BEEN IN DANGER. THANK GOD I WAS IN FRONT OF MY HOME WHEN THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE I COULD'VE BEEN IN A HOSTILE NEIGHBORHOOD, IN THE COLD, WITH NO HEAT. THE PIECE IN QUESTION THAT WAS THE PROBLEM... QUOTED BY NISSAN IS THE "STEERING LOCK." THIS PIECE HAS BEEN RECALLED BY NISSAN IN THE EARLIER MODELS, BUT APPARENTLY NOT FOR MY VEHICLE. (WHICH IS THE YEAR AFTER THE ONE THAT IS RECALLED) APPARENTLY THEY DIDN'T FIX THIS ISSUE. WHAT IF I WAS SOMEONE WHO NEEDED TO BE HOME TO TAKE MEDICINE AT A CERTAIN TIME, OR I DIDN'T HAVE A PHONE TO TELL THE SCHOOL WHERE MY DAUGHTER IS WAITING FOR ME THE ISSUE, OR MY WIFE WAS IN LABOR? THIS PIECE IS AN UNNECESSARY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
UNEXPECTEDLY THE 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA WOULDN'T START. I THEN CHECK THIS WEBSITE, AND FIND A TON OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE! THE ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK CONTROL! I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW NISSAN ISN'T HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS FAULTY PART. I PAID ALMOST $40,000 FOR A CAR THAT WON'T START. THIS CAN HAPPEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. MY ISSUE OCCURED WITH MY 4 MONTH OLD SON IN THE VEHICLE WHILE EVERYONE ELSE I KNEW WAS AT WORK. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! THIS SAME PART NUMBER WAS RECALLED IN PREVIOUS YEARS FOR THE MAXIMA! THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AFTER STOPPING AT THE BANK TO MAKE A DEPOSIT. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HOLD NISSAN RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ONGOING ISSUE!
DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND SHINY WHICH CAUSES THE SUNLIGHT TO REFLECT UP INTO YOUR EYES WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. SOMETIMES IT IS ALMOST BLINDING.WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND DIDN'T NOTICE THE DAY WE BOUGHT IT.
MY 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA EXPERIENCED THE STEERING LOCK FAILURE AND COULD NOT START THE CAR. THIS, AS I HAVE BEEN READING, IS COMMON AND IT'S GOING TO COST OVER $700.00 TO FIX. THIS IS BS NISSAN!
TRIED TO START CAR KEY LIGHT CAME ON, BRAKES WERE HARD TO PRESS ANG IGNTION WOULD NOT START ONLY LOCK WOULD SHOWUP ON THE PUSH TO START BUTTON NOW CAR IS SITTING AND HAVE TO GET TOWED. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY WAS GETTING READY TO GO TO WORK AFTER STOPPING AT A SCHOOL.
THE STEERING MECHANISM FAILED ON MY 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA. BASED ON SHORT RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR/MAKE/MODEL. NISSAN SHOULD BE RECALLING THIS PART.

THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE AIR BAG COMPARTMENT AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE STRUT INSULATOR WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V358000 (SUSPENSION). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WHEEL LOCK SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
AFTER WORK ON 7/18/15, I WENT TO MY CAR TO GO HOME, BUT AS I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND PUSHED THE START BUTTON, I GOT NOTHING - NOT A PEEP FROM THE ENGINE - SO I TRIED A FEW MORE TIMES, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I CALLED AAA, THINKING THAT MY BATTERY WAS DEAD (EVEN THOUGH I'D JUST PURCHASED A NEW ONE RECENTLY), BUT THE JUMP DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO MY CAR. I CALLED HOME AND HAD MY BACK-UP FOB BROUGHT TO ME, THINKING THAT PERHAPS THE BATTERY FROM MY MAIN ONE WAS DEAD, BUT THE SECOND ONE DIDN'T WORK, EITHER. NOR DID EITHER OF THEM WORK IN THE PORT THAT'S LOCATED IN THE BOTTOM-LEFT PORTION OF THE DASHBOARD, SO I GOT A RIDE TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE SOME SALESMEN GAVE ME SUGGESTIONS OF WHAT I SHOULD DO. WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT I'D DONE EVERYTHING THAT THEY MENTIONED, THEY SAID THAT ALL THAT WAS LEFT TO BE DONE WAS TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE SHOP, WHICH I DID, BUT SINCE IT WAS A FRIDAY AND NEARLY 6:00 PM, MY CAR WASN'T GOING TO BE LOOKED AT UNTIL MONDAY AFTERNOON. WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK TO ARRIVE, AS WELL AS OVER THE WEEKEND, I DID SOME SEARCHING ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM, NOT COVERED BY ANY EXTENDED WARRANTIES, THOUGH I READ THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED OFTEN ENOUGH WITH THE 2009 MAXIMA THAT NISSAN ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THIS REPAIR, SO I DON'T SEE WHY THIS PROBLEM SHOULDN'T ALSO BE INCLUDED, AS WELL. NISSAN, YOU'RE LOSING YET ANOTHER CUSTOMER...

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, STEERING WHEEL, AND ENTIRE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AS THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE FROM THE MOTOR MOUNT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,123.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING LOCK MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,320.

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT AND PASSENGER WERE INJURED AND REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
WHEN I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE, IT WAS UNRESPONSIVE AND THE ANIT-THEFT BUTTON WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, THOUGH THERE WAS NOTHING THAT SHOULD HAVE PROMPTED THIS (I WAS DOING YARD AND NO ONE WAS NEAR VEHICLE). THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF AND THE WHEEL WAS NOT MOVABLE. NEITHER THE ACTUAL KEY OR THE SMART KEY FOB WOULD START THE VEHICLE. I ATTEMPTED TO RESET THE SMART KEY FOB AS PER THE OWNER'S MANUAL (SEE ANIT-THEFT SECTION) NUMEROUS TIMES AND IT DID NOT WORK. ULTIMATELY, THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY DIED THAT NIGHT (UNSURE IF THERE WAS A DRAIN COMING FROM SOMEWHERE AS A RESULT OF THIS ANTI-THEFT LIGHT) AND AAA CAME TO JUMP START IT THE FOLLOWING MORNING. AFTER JUMPING THE CAR THE TECH RAN A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WHICH BOTH CAME BACK ACCEPTABLE (THOUGH THE VOLTAGE WAS OBVIOUSLY LOW IN THE BATTERY - JUST NEEDED TO BE DRIVEN AND RECHARGED). THE FACT THAT I HAD MY KEY AND WAS UNABLE TO START MY VEHICLE WHILE FOLLOWING THE GUIDANCE OF MY OWNER'S MANUAL WAS DISCONCERTING AND CONCERNING. I HAVE A WIFE AND 2 YOUNG DAUGHTERS AND WE ARE A ONE CAR FAMILY. HAD THERE BEEN AN EMERGENCY, THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS ISSUE. THIS IS MY FIRST DAY ON THE NHTSA SITE AND AFTER RESEARCHING SIMILAR YEAR MAXIMA'S, THE PROBLEM SEEMS WIDESPREAD AND THERE IS SEEMINGLY NO ACTION BEING TAKEN BY EITHER NHTSA OR NISSAN. PLEASE ADVISE ON REASONING AS TO WHY, WITH NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ACROSS A NUMBER OF MODEL YEARS AND MODELS, THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY ACTION BY NHTSA AND/OR NISSAN. THANKS VERY MUCH.
MY 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA EXPERIENCED THE STEERING LOCK FAILURE. IT LEAVES PEOPLE STRANDED WHEN THE STEERING LOCK ANTI-THEFT MECHANISM FAILS. THE STEERING WHEEL IS NOT LOCKED BUT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. THE STEERING LOCK DEVICE FAILS TO FULLY DISENGAGE SO THE SMART KEY SYSTEM DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE KEY. THIS MAY NOT CAUSE ACCIDENT, BUT IT CAN STRAND A PERSON ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME LEAVING THEM WITH THE TOWING FEE AND ANYWHERE FROM 700-1000$ IN DEALERSHIP FEES. I DROVE MY CAR TO WORK AND BACK AND FORTH FOR LUNCH. AT THE END OF THE DAY IT FAILED TO START DUE TO WHAT I LATER FOUND OUT WAS THE STEERING LOCK DEVICE FAILURE.

I WAS HIT BROADSIDE, ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, BY ANOTHER DRIVER GOING APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MPH BUT MY SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE OTHER CAR CRASHED INTO THE FRONT THREE-QUARTERS OF MY DRIVER'S DOOR PLUS THE REST OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE IN FRONT OF THE DOOR. MY CAR REPAIR FACILITY SAYS THE AIR BAG ON THIS MODEL WILL ONLY DEPLOY IF THE CAR IS HIT PRECISELY ON THE FRAME BETWEEN THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR SO BECAUSE MY DRIVER'S DOOR WAS HIT SLIGHTLY IN FRONT OF THAT -- THE FRONT THREE-QUARTERS OF THE DRIVER'S DOOR NOT THE BACK ONE-QUARTER -- IT DIDN'T DEPLOY. THAT DOESN'T SEEM SAFE; IS THAT CORRECT??
2010 NISSAN MAXIMA...THE CAR RAN FINE ALL WEEKEND BUT MONDAY MORNING THE CAR WOULD NOT START... THERE WAS FLASHING RED KEY LIGHT.... WITH CLICKING SOUND. RESEARCH ON INTERNET INDICATED THAT THIS IS DUE TO STEERING LOCK AND MY DEALER ADVISED ME TO TOW THE CAR TO THEM. 2009 NISSAN MODELS HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES AND NISSAN HAS A RECALL BUT THERE IS NONE FRO 2010.... THOUGHT THE PROBLEM ARE EXACTLY THE SAME.
CAR WILL NOT START CONSISTENTLY.IT APPEARS TO BE THE STEERING WHEEL IGNITION LOCK. NISSAN WILL TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY ON THE ISSUE. DEALING WITH THE NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING REP AT "NISSAN AMERICA" WAS FRUSTRATING.
MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON YESTERDAY MORNING CAR WAS STALLING A LITTLE WAS DRIVING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN MY CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN ONCE I PUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR IT STARTED TO MAKE NOISES LIKE A MOTORCYCLE AND WOULDN'T MOVE FAST. CAR STOP ON MY STREET AND WE HAD TO PUSH IT INTO MY DRIVEWAY. NOW WHEN I CRANK MY CAR IT MAKES THE MOTORCYCLE NOISE FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN GOES AWAY. CAN'T DRIVE IT BUT CAN CHANGE THE GEARS WITH EASE. TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND STATED THAT IT IS THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
WHEN DRIVING OVER A SPEED BUMP OR ANY TYPE OF ROAD DAMAGE, THE BACK END SWAYS.
I WENT OUT TO MY GARAGE TO START MY 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA TO HEAD TO WORK AND IT WOULD NOT START AND FLASHED THE KEY LIGHT ON MY DASH. SO I THOUGHT MY REMOTE HAD FAILED SO I GOT MY SECOND REMOTE AND STILL NOTHING. LUCKILY I HAD MY TRUCK TO GET TO WORK THAT DAY. I HAD MY MAXIMA TOWED TO NISSAN AND HAD TO PAY $934.40 OUT OF POCKET. I WAS TOLD THAT NISSAN COVERED SOME 2009 MAXIMAS WITH THE SAME ISSUE BUT NOT THE 2010 YEARS. SUCH A (INCONVENIENCE) I REALLY WISH NISSAN WOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS. *TR
I BEGAN NOTICING AN ODD NOISE IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN TRAVELING OVER ROUGH ROADS, POTHOLES OR BUMPS. THE NOISE QUICKLY BECAME WORSE AND MORE METALLIC SOUNDING. I HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THIS CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN ALL WINTER AND LITTLE SO FAR THIS YEAR. SO IT HAS NOT BEEN USED MUCH SINCE A NEW CVT WAS INSTALLED UNDER WARRANTY. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE I TRUST AND AFTER TEST DRIVING IT HEARD THE NOISE AND PUT IT ON THE LIFT. IT WAS THEN BOTH FRONT SPRINGS WERE FOUND TO BE BROKEN IN ALMOST THE EXACT SAME SPOT. A VERY ODD OCCURRENCE FOR SURE. THIS IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND IS CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE.
I ARRIVE HOME AT APPROXIMATELY 3:00 PM (PACIFIC) AND PARK MY VEHICLE (I DONT MOVE IT AT ALL). AT APPROXIMATELY 4:00 AM (PACIFIC) ABOUT 13 HOURS LATER... THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES!! THE FIRE DEPT. SAYS IT COULD BE - IT IS MORE THAN LIKELY AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. *TR
STEERING WHEEL LOCK FAILURE OCCURRED. I COULD NOT START THE CAR. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I RESEARCHED AND THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH MY MAKE AND MODEL. FOR SOME REASON NISSAN IS NOT RECALLING AND REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
I HAVE 2010 MAXIMA AND IT HAS BEEN WORKING GREAT. THIS MORNING, I STARTED THE CAR TO WARM IT UP FOR MY DAUGHTER AND TURN IT OFF FOR ABOUT 10MIN. WHEN SHE WAS READY TO LEAVE, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. CAR HAS POWER AND DOOR LOCKS WORK FINE LOCKING AND UNLOCKING BUT NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUSH BUTTON TO START THE CAR. LOOKS LIKE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM THAT IS RELATED TO STEERING BEING LOCKED AND THERE IS NO WAY TO UNLOCK IT. 2009 MAXIMAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND NISSAN DID A RECALL TO FIX IT BUT NOTHING ON 2010... WHY ??? THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND NEEDS ATTENTION ASAP. *TR
MY 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA WOULD NOT START AFTER IT WAS DRIVEN TO WORK. THE DASH LIGHT FLASHED A YELLOW KEY, THE BRAKE PEDDLE WAS HARD, AND THE PUSH BUTTON WAS LOCKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK. *TR
GOT INTO MY VEHICLE TO LEAVE FOR WORK, BRAKE WAS HARD TO PUSH, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN POSITION THAT IT WAS IN, PUSH BUTTON START WOULD NOT WORK. TRIED BOTH KEYFOBS WITH NO CHANGE IN STATUS. LIGHT ON THE DASH THAT I HADN'T SEEN BEFORE (A KEY WITH A RECTANGULAR BOX AROUND IT) CHANGED BATTERIES IN BOTH FOBS WITH STILL NO CHANGE. WAS LATE FOR WORK AND HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED OUT OF MY OWN GARAGE. AFTER RESEARCHING FOUND THAT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK WOULD NOT DISENGAGE, WHICH IN TURN TRIGGERED THE ANTI-THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM AND MY CAR WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE MY OWN KEYFOBS. THERE'S NO OTHER WAY TO START THE VEHICLE, NO GENERAL OVERRIDE SWITCH OR BUTTON OF ANY KIND. I HAD A VEHICLE THAT I COULD NOT USE. *TR
DRIVING VEHICLE AT A SPEED OF 60 MPH WHEN A PORTION OF GLASS FROM THE PANORAMIC ROOF DETACHED FROM THE ROOF ASSEMBLY. REPORTED THE ISSUE TO DEALERSHIP ON 2 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS ABOUT WATER LEAKAGE PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING. DEALER 1 STATED THEY COULD NOT RECREATE ISSUE. DEALER 2 STATED THAT A SEAL WAS CAUSING A WATER LEAK BUT A WEATHER SEAL WOULD NOT CAUSE A PANORAMIC ROOF TO DETACH. ON FEB 24, 2015, I GOT INTO MY 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA TO TAKE SON TO SCHOOL AND CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER DOING A HOST OF TROUBLESHOOTING (BATTERY, FUSES) NOTHING TURNED UP. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DIAGNOSTIC TEST DETERMINED THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN WAS DEFECTIVE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND DISCOVERED MILLIONS OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. NISSAN WAS WELL AWARE OF PROBLEM AND RECALLED THE 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA MODELS , AND EXTENDED THE RECALL WARRANTY TIL FEB 2015 TO FIX ISSUE. HOWEVER, THEY DID NOTHING FOR THE 2010 MODELS. WHEN YOU PURCHASE A CAR, YOU ARE ROBBED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND ROBBED AGAIN OF YOUR HARD EARNED MINIMUM WAGE INCOME DUE TO SHODDY WORKMANSHIP THAT COST THOUSANDS. I WENT TO START MY 2010 MAXIMA AND IT WOULDN'T START. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY, SO I CHANGED IT. NO DIFFERENCE. THEN I SAW THAT THE KEY INDICATOR WAS LIT ON MY DASHBOARD. SO I CHECKED MY KEY FOB, IT WAS FINE. THEN I BEGAN TO GOOGLE THE ISSUE AND SAW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2009 ALTIMA/MAXIMA'S ON THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL). I READ THAT OWNERS OF MAXIMA'S WOULD REMOVE THE BOTTOM DASHBOARD AND JIGGLE OR TAP THE ESCL AND THE CAR WOULD EVENTUALLY START. I TRIED THIS REMEDY, AND IT WORKED...TEMPORARILY. THE LIGHT WENT OFF BUT THE VERY NEXT DAY IT CAME BACK ON. I WAS HESITANT TO START MY CAR AFTER THE INCIDENT. THE CAR STARTED BUT THE LIGHT STAYED ON. I ASSUMED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, BUT SINCE THE CAR STARTED I WENT ON ABOUT MY DAILY ROUTINE. THEN IT HAPPENED, I WAS AWAY FROM MY HOME, ON A DATE, IN THE SNOW, AND IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN. THERE I WAS TRYING TO START MY CAR WITHOUT TOOLS IN THE SNOW!! I WENT TO TURN ON MY HUSBAND'S 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA THIS MORNING, AND IT DIDN'T TURN ON. THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT ASSISTED ME SAID THAT IS WOULD BE COVERED BY THE "NISSAN EXTENDED WARRANTY" THAT THEY HAD FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE (STEERING WHEEL LOCK) BUT THEN WHEN I CALLED LATER TO GET AN UPDATE, SHE ADVISED ME THAT UNFORTUNATELY MY CAR DID NOT MEET THE WARRANTY CRITERIA, WHATEVER THAT MEANS. REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING SINCE IT WASN'T A 2009 MODEL WHICH HAD A RECALL FOR THE SAME EXACT PART. APPARENTLY THEY USED A "DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER" EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS BUILT IN THE YEAR 2009. I COULD HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO WOULD HAVE DONE IT CHEAPER, HOWEVER THIS IS CLEARLY NOT SOMETHING I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING. THEN WE CALLED THE LOCKSMITH OUT TO REPROGRAM THE KEYS. STILL NO LUCK. LOTS OF MONEY ALREADY LOST. WE THEN BEGAN TO SEARCH THE INTERNET. CAME ACROSS SO MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE. I WENT TO NISSAN TALKED TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT . I WAS TOLD I HAD NO RECALLS IN MY CAR. THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO HOOK IT UP TO A MACHINE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WHUCHNIS 105 DOLLARS AND STILL I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR GETTING IT FIXED. IN WAS VERY UPSET. I TOLD THEM MANY PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. MY BOYFRIEND ALSO CALLED NISSAN AFFAIRS. WE WERE TOLD THE SAME THING AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I WENT TO TURN ON THE CAR AND IT WOULDN'T COME ON BUT HAD A YELLOW KEY LIGHT ON THE DASH. KEY FOB WOULD WORK TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE CAR, BUT THE BRAKE WOULDN'T DEPRESS ,AND COULD NOT SHIFT. LOOKED FOR POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS ISSUES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING LOCK. WARRANTY ONLY COVERS 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. *TR
